I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM BMW (RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 16V-071) A YEAR AGO. THE RECALL NOTICE INFORMS ME THAT THE AIRBAG CAN RUPTURE IN AN ACCIDENT AND SEND METAL FRAGMENTS TO THE DRIVER (MYSELF) AND OTHER PASSENGERS. THIS IS A CONCERNING SAFETY ISSUE THAT STILL HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSES AND RESOLVED BY BMW. THE RECALL NOTICE ADVISES ME THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO RESOLVE THIS RECALL AND THAT BMW WILL ADVISE ME WHEN THERE ARE. SINCE IT HAS BEEN A YEAR SINCE THIS NOTICE, THIS IS NOW REACHING AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT A CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR RESOLUTION ON A SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS THIS. I WOULD LIKE BMW TO PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER BMW VEHICLE OR LIKE MODEL UNTIL THEY CORRECT AND RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. TAKATA RECALL MY BMW DEALER/SERVICE CENTER IN MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA STATES THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE E92 AIRBAGS TO REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE AIRBAG. THEY TELL ME IT WILL TAKE MONTHS TO GET A NEW AIRBAG. I WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO CONTACT BMW ABOUT THIS MATTER AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO MAKE THIS A TOP PRIORITY. I'VE BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH THIS DEFECTIVE PART LONG ENOUGH, AND BMW HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO ACT SWIFTLY TO REASSURE OWNERS THAT THEY ARE ON TOP OF THIS. I WOULD ULTIMATELY LIKE MY DEALER TO CONTACT ME WITH THE PART ASAP AND HAVE THIS REPAIR COMPLETED.

THE BMW REP TOLD ME TO CALL BACK IN A FEW WEEKS - PARTS MIGHT BE AVAILABLE. I'M CONFUSED AS TO WHY I WOULD RECEIVE THIS NOTICE IF PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE.

IT IS NOW MORE THAN 9 MONTHS SINCE RECEIPT OF THIS NOTICE. I HAVE CONTACTED BMW 3 TIMES SINCE RECEIPT OF THE NOTICE AND THEY STATE THERE IS STILL NO INDICATION OF WHEN THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG. I'M HOPING YOU CAN ASSIST WITH FORCING BMW TO GET THIS SAFETY REPLACEMENT COMPLETED.

DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG WAS RECALLED IN MARCH 2016. CALLED AND EMAILED REPEATEDLY TO SEE WHEN I COULD GET THE AIRBAG FIXED, AND WAS CONTINUOUSLY TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW OCTOBER (7 MONTHS LATER) AND THE AIRBAG HAS STILL NOT BEEN REPLACED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

MY CAR IS QUITE OLD. WE LIVE IN HAWAII, A STATE WITH ONE OF THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF HUMIDITY. A POTENTIAL INFLATOR RUPTURE COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO ME, MY PARTNER, OR OUR UNBORN CHILD.
