RETURNING HOME FROM A TRIP TO THE GROCERY, CAR RUNNING FINE, TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, HEARD A NOISE , ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. HAD THE CAR PULLED TO MY GARAGE,, I AM A DIESEL ENGINE REBUILDER SO I DO KNOW ENGINES. I LOOKED THE ENGINE OVER WITH THE HOOD UP, DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE ANYTHING. GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND TRIED TO RE START THE ENGINE, IT ROLLED OVER FINE BUT NO START. I AGAIN LOOKED IN THE ENGINE AREA FOR ANY PROBLEMS. THEN I SAW IT. THE FRONT PULLEY AND CRANKSHAFT WAS CROOKED,, VERY VISIBLE CROOKED. I REACHED DOWN AND GRABBED THE END OF THE CRANKSHAFT AND IT IS BROKEN. NEVER EVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THE CAR ONLY HAS LIKE 71400.00 MILES ON IT. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY. BMW HAS MANY PROBLEMS WITH THEIR ENGINES. THIS IS CLEARLY A MATERIAL FLAW FOR A CRANKSHAFT TO BREAK. I HAVE BEEN READING LOTS OF STORIES ABOUT THEIR ENGINES FAILING OVER BAD MATERIALS USED IN BUILDING BMW ENGINES. I THINK BMW SHOULD FIX MY CAR UNDER A FACTORY RECALL AT NO COST TO ME. THIS CAR HAS COST ME TONS OF MONEY TO KEEP UP, AND I BABY THIS THING. ENGINE FAILED GOING NO MORE THAN 5MPH IN MY DRIVEWAY. AND YES IT WAS FULL OF OIL AND ALL FLUIDS. THE CAR LOOKS BRAND NEW. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP ON THIS. MY 7 YEAR OLD BMW WILL NOT START DUE TO TIMING AND VALVE ISSUES - IT'S A PART THAT'S BEEN RECALLED IN 2010 CARS, AND IS ALSO OCCURRING IN 2007 CARS (BUT THAT YEAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL). IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR WHEN THE TIMING WENT OUT, THEN I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT - WITH THE CAR STOPPING SUDDENLY. NOW I AM DEALING WITH MY CAR NEVER STARTING AGAIN. *TR
CLICKING NOISE ON CAR OFTEN. AFTER RESEARCHING THERE WERE MORE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENING WITH OTHER BMW'S. WAS TOLD BY THE BMW SERVICE CENTER THAT THE LIFTERS NEED REPLACING. THERE ARE FAULTY LIFTERS ON THE CAR COULD EVENTUALLY RUIN THE ENGINE HEAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 530XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE WATER PUMP WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. *TR
THE ENGINE OVERHEATED ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD TO WAIT A LIL WHILE BEFORE STATED BACK UP THEN HE OVERHEATED AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HE TOLD ME THAT COULD OFF CAUSE A FIRE. BUT AFTER REVIEW OF THE KEY DATA HE REALIZED THAT NO SERVICE WAS OVERDUE AND ASK ME TO LET THE CAR FOR THE WEEK END . I'M STILL WAITING FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AND DON'T KNOW IF THIS MALFUNCTION IS COVER BY A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 530I. WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TORQUE ALUMINUM BOLT ON THE ENGINE PULLEY WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE BOLT WAS REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 530XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CONSTANTLY OVERHEATING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH THE WATER PUMP AND THE THERMOSTAT. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE STARTED A FIRE IF IT WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,578. UPDATED 6/4/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE PAID FOR THE REPAIRS. THE RECALL DID NOT COVER HIS MODEL YEAR. UPDATED 06/07/12 *JS
CAR OVERHEATING. TOOK VEHICLE TO SHOP AND RADIATOR WAS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN THE DAY AFTER, CAR OVERHEATING AND GETTING MESSAGE THAT ENGINE MUST BE TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY. CAR AT SHOP AGAIN AND ISSUE IS BEING INVESTIGATED. ASSUMPTION THAT IT HAS A DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP. CONTACTED BMW AND THEY STATE THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF SOME WATER PUMP ISSUES FOR MODELS 2008-2011 BUT THEY HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED ALL MODELS OR VINS AFFECTED. MY VEHICLE IS A 2007. BMW REFERRED ME TO NHTSA TO FILE COMPLAINT AND REQUEST INVESTIGATION. BMW STATES THAT IT IS A POSSIBILITY. REPAIR IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, MY CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE AND I DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE. I AM REQUESTING YOUR ASSISTANCE. THANK YOU. ## VIN PASSED ## BMW, 2007 530I ## *KB
I WAS WARNED BY THE COMPUTER SYSTEM OF ENGINE OVER HEATING, AND WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY, THE ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY SLOWED DOWN THE SPEED, WHICH CAUSED ME PULL OF THE FREEWAY IN A HURRY, SO I WOULDN'T CAUSE ANY ACCIDENT FOR SLOW TRAFFIC. AT THE MECHANIC'S SHOP, I WAS FIRST INFORMED THAT THERMOSTAT WAS DEFECTIVE, BUT LATER THEY DISCOVERED THE WATER PUMP HAS FAILED. THE REASON FOR THE WATER PUMP FAILURE WAS BECAUSE THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL WITHIN THE WATER PUMP HOUSING APPEARED TO BE BURNED OUT. I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE BURNED CHARRED MARK ON THE INTERIOR WALL OF THE HOUSING, WHICH IS LAMINATED WITH PLASTIC. THE WATER PUMP IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE ENGINE. THIS FAILURE HAPPENS AT ABOUT 10,000 MILES AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF 50,000 MILES WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THE DESIGN OF THE WATER PUMP AND THE LOCATION OF THE WATER PUMP HAS INHERENT PROBLEM FOR EVENTUAL BREAKAGE. BMW SHOULD REDESIGN THIS PART. *TR
2007 BMW 530 EVAPORATIVE COOLER LEAK IN DASHBOARD, CAUSING FREON IN PASSENGER CABINET. IN ADDITION TO LEAKY FREON IN THE AIR. VERY COMMON PROBLEM ACCORDING TO DEALER IN TUCSON, AZ FOR BMW THEY REPLACE THEM ALL THE TIME EVEN ON COUPLE YEAR OLD CARS, USUALLY THEY CHARGE CUSTOMER FOR IT. ALL THE FREON LEAKING IN COMPARTMENT CAN'T BE GOOD FOR US. *TR
I THINK 2008 BMW 550I HAVE ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD RADIATION PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING NUMBNESS IN FACE AND HEADACHE WHILE DRIVING IN THIS CAR. I DON'T KNOW HOW HIGH IN MG IT GETS UP TO. I DON'T HAVE INSTRUMENTS TO MEASURE EXACT LEVEL OF EMF TO VERIFY IF EXPOSURE LEVEL IS SAFE(I AM SURE IT'S NOT). COULD YOU VERIFY EMF LEVE IN THIS CAR AND WHAT SOLUTION DO YOU HAVE? *TR
