The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the electronic power steering stopped functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The steering assist warning light was illuminated. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly. The vehicle was repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 199,450.
The power steering system on my vehicle malfunctioned. I was turning at speed when all of a sudden the power steering failed without any warning messages. Turning the vehicle was nearly uncontrollable, putting myself, my passengers, and other drivers at risk. This is a known issue with the same make, model and year of my vehicle, however the manufacturer refuses to address the issue with my specific vehicle. This is the same issue that is addressed under 21V213. I have reported this issue before in the past, and called GM about it, however they will not fix the issue.
I was driving and power steering went out, i see many others had same issue and recall only for a few production months. it is beyond a safety concern that you have not control of a large truck.
Power steering quit while driving on highway. Service power steering warning came on. Pulled off to shoulder and stopped. Shut off engine then looked under hood but couldn't find anything obvious. Restarted engine and steering restored. About 3 miles from home and lost steering again making vehicle very hard to control.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering); however, the dealer refused to complete the recall repair, citing that the frame had extensive corrosion and the vehicle was unsafe to raise up on a lift. The contact stated that the dealer was not justified in denying the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
While driving at highway speeds the power steering suddenly stopped working. It was definitely a safety hazard as I had all I could do to get off the road!
At highway speeds, the Service Power Steering System and the Traction Control light appears on the interment cluster message center and the vehicle becomes difficult to steer safely because the electronic power steering assist is turned off. To make the vehicle operational one must stop, turn off the vehicle and turn it back on. This will allow the power steering electronics to continue to operate normally until the next time when it suddenly cuts the power steering off again. I looked on this website and I see tons of recalls and complaints about this issues. My vehicle has over 200K highway miles and I am not expecting the manufacture to to cover the cost of this repair, but I also don't believe it is a $2K total Power Steering System replacement either. There has to be a few hundred dollar wiring repair that can be completed to make the system reliable again.
Service power steering, drive with care

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering function became inoperable. The contact was able to veer the vehicle to the shoulder prior to having the vehicle towed to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with power steering failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Lost power steering twice in while traveling 70mph on interstate highway. Specifically, I lost power steering and got lights for loss of "Stabilitrak." I had to pull over to turn off the truck, and power steering returned upon turning back on the vehicle. No loss of power steering fluid was noted. This incident repeated itself exactly the same several days later. Upon taking to the mechanic, they confirmed with the following: "We've confirmed an intermittent issue with the power steering, identified by the retrieval of the C0545 code for the steering torque sensor. Upon conducting a thorough data test, we observed erratic signals from the steering wheel torque sensor. We meticulously inspected all connections, finding no issues. Furthermore, our testing revealed that the torque sensor circuits are not shorted to power or ground, and there are no instances of resistance or opens. We recommend replacing and programming the electronic steering gear assembly, as the steering torque sensor is integrated into it." Final repairs and replacement of the steering gear assembly cost approximately $2500.00
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel seized with the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Power steering failed several times. Last 2 incidents were at highway speeds. Their is a bulletin on this issue but no recall. Have to shut off vehicle and restart to clear issue. Dash displays power steering failure warning and to drive carefully.
This issue has been fixed two times already and the issue is still occurring. Power steering quits working while driving anywhere. Service power steering warning light comes on. I shut off the engine and then restarted the engine and power steering was restored. Sometimes this worked. Now I have lost all power steering completely. Because the vehicle has been fixed prior, I have to pay to have the parts replaced again.
Power steering failure stabilitrak failure at 144,000 miles.
2015 Chevy Colorado power steering has been going out while driving, often on the highway. very hard to steer/turn. several times have to try to put truck in neutral, turn off the truck, turn it back on to get it to come back on... all while doing 65-70mph on the highway. I took it to my mechanic last night, and today I'm told, there has been a recall issued for this issue. Call GM and talk to them. I do, and am told after giving VIN, for whatever reasons, my specific truck is not included in the recall - and yet I fight with the wheel trying not to run off the road or slam into someone else as I try to pull over - which is what this safety recall is all about. All out of pocket expense to me and am told, by GM, even if they do later include my truck in this recall for this problem, they could reimburse me but I most likely won't get reimbursed due to age of the truck and now it has 110,000 k miles on it. WHAT?! I'm sure this is a common type of problem with recalls but for those of us who are on tight income, this is highly stressful and a major problem - for dealing with the car itself and feeling screwed over by the company/laws/whatever excuse they want to say. Truck is now in the shop and going to get fixed cause I don't want to freaking die while driving and somehow I have to figure out how to pay the thousands of dollars to fix it.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving at 10-45 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was a loss of power steering due to fault codes in the transfer control module, power steering control module, and front view camera module. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 106,266.
Power steering assist suddenly failed while negotiating a turn in a freeway onramp at approximately 40MPH. Very nearly lost control of the vehicle and was towing a small travel trailer at the time. Steering was VERY stiff and maneuvering at slow speeds especially difficult. OBDII code C0545. Warning lights for Stabilitrak and Traction control systems and a message for "Service Power Steering System" appeared at the moment of failure. I have not yet taken to the dealer or had inspected. I did check system fuses for the Power Steering, Stabilitrak, and Traction control and all were intact. Systems are working as they should as of the next morning.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering functionality and the vehicle was difficult to steer. Additionally, the service stabili-trak warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
My power steering system failed again while driving. The car became very difficult to control, especially at low speeds, and poised a safety concern for myself and drivers around me. I had it inspected, the service center recreated the issue and confirmed the electrical connections have failed, as outlined in the recall cited below. The year, make, model and issue is the same as the information included in campaign 21V213000, however Chevrolet refuses to include my VIN in the list of recalled vehicles.
The power steering assist fails mid turn. Creates safety issue when turning in parking lots and yielding turns.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, she became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, and the vehicle displayed a message reading "Electronic Power Assist Fault". The EPS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that power to the EPS was lost due to a fault with the battery. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then diagnosed a failure with the electronic power steering assist. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V054000 (Steering) but had already been repaired under the recall and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 85,000.
Random loss of power steering while vehicle is moving. Pulling over, shutting truck off and restarting usually clears up the issue. Previous recall number is 21V213. My truck does not qualify for this recall but is now having this issue.
My 2015 Colorado is repeatedly losing power steering. Twice while driving and three times upon starting the vehicle the power steering has failed. A warning light shows on the instrument panel to service the power steering. After parking and restarting the truck I have been able to resume driving. This is a VERY FRIGHTENING AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. I learned there was a partial recall of SOME 2015 Colorados, however my truck was not included. I have an appointment with my local Chevy dealer on Monday, August 28.
