Upon purchasing the vehicle from a buy here pay here they did not enclose any possible or current failures or problems with the vehicle. It started with the battery and within 2 months of purchase the check engine light came on. I had previously taken the vehicle to the dealership 3 times to assess the issue in which they repeatedly informed me nothing was wrong even though my check engine light was still on. A month later my CV axel went out and my alignment begin to come out of place. I took the vehicle to an auto shop in which they gave me an estimate of all the issues wrong with the car. I have since done repairs for what was necessary. I then began to look for a recall on the vehicle in which I found that there was a manufacturer recall that was I repaired regarding the Safety lock theft prevention. My ignition switch does not register properly when it is in “off mode”. The engine still runs and numerous attempts to stop it have failed. I contacted the dealership and they have not been willing to work with me in any way. I called the manufacturer number and was directed to a Chevrolet dealership near me in which they told me there are no recalls even though the NHTSA.gov website states there is as well as numerous others but that they have not been repaired. When I place my vehicle in the park position and remove the key from the ignition I am still able to move the gear shift into any selected gear, both with and without the normal brake and the emergency brake. I cannot afford to take it to a shop for repair but did take it to be inspected and was informed that this was an issue along with others and that it could be the reason my battery is not holding the power it needs and why I cannot remove my key sometimes as well as why the engine remains running after switching to the off position and removing my key.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE OWNER WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE HAD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF DUE TO A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. THE OWNER HAD ALSO EXPERIENCED SEVERAL SAFETY RELATED FAILURES WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE INVOLVING THE BRAKING SYSTEM THE TRANSMISSION, THE POWER TRAIN AND THE HEATING SYSTEM. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WERE NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER(UNKNOWN) AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
KEY FALLS OUT OF THE IGNITION SINCE I GOT IT A YEAR AGO I HAVE REPLACED 02 SENSOR AC COMPRESSOR AND A WATER TANK. IT WAS ACTING LIKE IT WASN'T GETTING FUEL LIKE LOSING POWER AND THEN I KILLED IT WENT TO START IT THE NEXT DAY AND IT WON'T CRANK IT WILL TURN OVER AND ACT LIKE IT WANTS TO RUN BUT IT DIES
WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN 2015 TO THE PADDOCK CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN KENMORE NY, MY BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THIS CAUSED THE CD CHANGER TO NO LONGER WORK. IT IS STILL NOT FUNCTIONING, CDS WONT EJECT AND ALL IT DOES IS MAKE A CLICKING SOUND.
MY KEY TO MY CAR WON'T TURN. AND WHEN YOU DO GET IT STARTED BY HITTING IT THE KEY FALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS MY THIRD TIME REPLACING IT BUT SAW THERE'S BEEN RECALLS FOR THE LOCK IGNITION SWITCH FOR THIS MODEL. IT'S STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN A YEAR AFTER I LAST REPLACED THE LOCK IGNITION SWITCH.
MY UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX WENT UP IN FLAMES WHILE DRIVING ON A BACK ROAD IN MY HOME TOWN. I WAS DOING 45 MPH WHEN THEN TRUCK SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. I AT FIRST THOUGHT WAS THE FUEL PUMP WENT. WHEN I OPENED MY DRIVERS DOOR I COULD SMELL SOMETHING WAS BURNING. I PULLED THE HOOD RELEASE AS I EXITED KINDLY DOWN AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK DID NOT SEE AND SMOKE. I THEN WENT AND OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX WAS ON FIRE AND WAS BEING FUELED BY THE BATTERY I RASH TO THE BACK AND GRABBED A PAIR OF PLIERS TO DISCUSS CONNECT THE BATTERY. I FEEL THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE BECAUSE I HAD TO CALL 6 DIFFERENT JUNK YARDS SOME THE PARTS WERE ALREADY REMOVED AND OTHERS DID NOT HAVE ALL BUT HAD ONE OF THEM AND A COUPLE THE PARTS WERE MELTED AND BURNT.
MY KEY COMES OUT OF THE IGNITION NO MATTER WHAT GEAR IT IS IN. THE VEHICLE JUST SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING AS I WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN ON A CITY STREET. I AM NOW UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE KEY IS ALSO TOUGH TO PULL OUT SOMETIMES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LOCKED OR UNLOCKED WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND THAT A SECURITY WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED AFTER THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 176,000.
VEHICLE WILL NOT START. PROBLEM WITH PCM? IGNITION SWITCH, LESS THAN 30,000 MILES, WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND WILL NOT RESTART. AFTER SITTING FOR MORE THAN 30 MINS OR LONGER START/ NO START NEVER KNOW!!! OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH INTERMITTENT DASH DISPLAY, DOOR CHIMES AND THEFT SYSTEM, CONTACTED G.M. AND NOT WILLING TO ADDRESS PROBLEM ....WAVE TOWING FEE, DEALER FAMILIAR WITH PROBLEM ,BUT NOT EXACTLY SURE AT THIS TIME WHAT PROBLEM IS OR HOW TO FIX....WANT TO THROW $ AT IT TILL A CURE IS FOUND. VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC AND ESPECIALLY WITH AUTO TRANS....HAVE CHILDREN IN CAR ALOT WHEN PROB HAPPENS...WHAT DO I DO!!! ALWAYS GARAGE KEPT ALSO! LIFTGATE POWER LOCK DOESN'T WORK. NO MANUAL WAY TO OPEN. UNABLE TO REPLACE TAIL, BRAKE OR TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS UNLESS LIFTGATE IS OPEN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD INDICATE LOW FUEL ECONOMY AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. UPDATED 05/03/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TWICE BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE KEY WOULD CONTINUE TO CLICK TO THE ON POSITION EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
AFTER SHUT CAR OFF, KEY GETS TRAPPED HALFWAY IN THE IGNITION CYLINDER- WOULD NOT LET GO OF THE KEY, NOR WOULD LET ME PUSH BACK IN TO START THE CAR. CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TWICE WHEN THIS OCCURRED AS I WAS AWAY FROM HOME; THEY BASICALLY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN TRY PLAYING WITH IT UNTIL IT LET GO. WHEN IT HAPPENED AT HOME, I LEFT CAR ALONE WITH THE KEYS HALFWAY IN IGNITION IN DRIVEWAY AND IT LET GO OF THE KEYS HOURS LATER. WHEN DAD BORROWED THE CAR, HE USED PLYERS TO REMOVE KEY. APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH IGNITION CLENCHING KEY SPONTANEOUSLY WITH NO REMEDY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. IN ADDITION, THE KEY WOULD RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE IGNITION KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON ONE OTHER OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION KEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
BAD IGNITION SWITCH
POWER DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING ALONG WITH THE REAR HATCH LOCK. UNABLE TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH. DEALER WANTS $1800 TO REPAIR.
I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CHEVROLET ON THIS. THIS AUTO HAS A BRANDED TITLE AND HAS A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. THE KEY COMES OUT WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING. WE DID NOT OWN THE CAR WHEN IT WAS DAMAGED SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THAT ACCIDENT. I DO KNOW THAT THERE WAS VERY LITTLE DAMAGE TO IT. THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY WON'T COVER REPLACEMENT OF THE SWITCH BECAUSE IT HAS A BRANDED TITLE. I FEEL THIS SAYS THAT MY LIFE IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AND THE PERSON WITH A NEW VEHICLE. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CHEVROLET PERSON AND HAVE HAD BRAND NEW ONES SO THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING TO ME. CAN ANYTHING BE DONE ABOUT THIS? *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MECHANIC HAD OFF AND ON FOR 3 WEEKS, UNABLE TO FIND CAUSE. DMV ISSUED WAVIER ON 4/9/2015 SO THAT WE COULD GET RENEWAL TAGS. TOOK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO WAS RECOMMENDED BY FIRST ONE. THEY REPLACED R&R CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID AND THE WIRING HARNESS ON 6/22/2015. THE LIGHT STAYED OFF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. WE RETURNED TO MECHANIC. PICKED UP ON 6/29/2015, LIGHT STAYED OFF UNTIL 7/2/2015. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO RETURN TO MECHANIC ON MONDAY DUE TO THIS BEING HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
WHEN I WOULD TRY TO START THE CAR THE STARTER WOULD STICK AND JUST KEEP TURNING OVER AND OVER, AND WOULD NOT START, WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT TO START I WOULD BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE RPM'S WOULD SHOOT UP BETWEEN 3 AND 6 AND DROP TO 0 IN A MATTER OF SECONDS AND EVERYTHING IN THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN, THIS IS WHILE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND SET THERE UNTIL IT DECIDED TO START, SOMETIMES IT TOOK AWHILE AND OTHERS IT WOULD START RIGHT UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER TO MANY TIMES TO COUNT, THIS CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS, I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT VERY BADLY. ALSO THE KEY WOULD STICK IN THE IGNITION AND WOULD NOT TURN I WOULD HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND ROCK IT BACK AND FORTH IN ORDER FOR IT TO TURN TO START THE CAR. I HAD EVERYTHING POSSIBLE DONE TO THIS CAR THAT THE MECHANIC COULD POSSIBLY THINK OF, EVEN A NEW COMPUTER AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS LATER IT IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. THERE IS SOMETHING REALLY BAD WRONG WITH THE CAR AND IT NEED TO BE FIXED. I AM TIRED OF PUTTING OUT MONEY AND IT NOT BEING RESOLVED. HAVE PAPER WORK ON ALL THE WORK DONE TO THE CAR. DRIVING ON SMOOTH ROAD AT ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN THE IGNITION KEY FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH ONTO THE CAR FLOOR. THE SWITCH WAS STILL IN THE RUN POSITION AND I WAS ABLE TO REINSERT THE KEY INTO THE SWITCH. THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 73500. I NOTICED I CAN MANUALLY PULL THE KEY FROM THE SWITCH AT ANYTIME. I HAVE NOT TRIED TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE MOVING TO SEE IF IT WILL LOCK WHEN THE KEY IS OUT AND THE SWITCH IS IN THE RUN POSITION. IT DOES NOT LOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND THE SWITCH IS IN THE RUN POSITION WITH THE KEY OUT. I HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR A BRAKE ISSUE AND IN A FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL BROUGHT THE KEY ISSUE TO THE SERVICE WRITERS ATTENTION. SHE SAID TO HAVE A NEW KEY MADE BY THE DEALER USING THE VEHICLE VIN. I DID NOT DO THIS YET. I HAVE THREE KEYS MADE BY LOCAL HARDWARE STORES ALL WITH THE SAME RESULT. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION LOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000. UPDATED 01/07/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE IGNITION WOULD LOCK MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE KEY. THE PASSLOCK LIGHT WOULD STAY ON. THE CONSUMER OWNS 2 CHEVROLETS WITH THE SAME MALFUNCTION. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED THE FAILURE RECURRED. UPDATED 9/28/15*JS
FOUND KEY WOULD NOT TURN PAST 'OFF' POSITION. AFTER WIGGLING KEY FINALLY TURNED ON AND WAS OK. AFTER A FEW DAYS FOUND KEY COULD BE REMOVED WHILE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. SEVERAL DAYS LATER FOUND KEY WOULD NOT MOVE SWITCH TO FULL OFF POSITION. JUST FOUND THIS SITE AND SEE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR TROUBLES. LOOKS TO ME LIKE THESE SWITCHES ARE POORLY MANUFACTURED AND SHOULD BE REPLACE BY GM AT NO OR MINIMAL CHARGE TO OWNERS WHO TRUSTED THEY WERE PURCHASING A TOP NOTCH VEHICLE WITH A TRUST-WORTHY MANUFACTURER.
