BRAKE PEDAL STARTED VIBRATING ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP SO I HAD BRAKE PADS REPLACED. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME MY PADS WERE STILL GOOD AND HADN'T NEEDED CHANGING BUT THEY CHANGED ANYWAY. THE NEXT SHOP RESURFACED MY ROTORS BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. IT STOPPED ON IT'S OWN BUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE IT WILL DO IT STILL.
AS I WAS AT STOP LIGHT 3 DAYS AGO AND AT A LOW SPEED AND ABOUT TO STOP MY ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATED WITHOUT ANY INDICATOR LIGHTS AND IN DOING SO IT RELEASED THE BRAKES EVEN THOUGH I WAS STILL PRESSING THEM. I AVOIDED HITTING THE CAR AHEAD OF BY SHOVING IT INTO PARK. IT DOES IT EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO STOP AND NOW HAVE TO USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKES TO ACTUALLY COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHEN ABS ACTIVATES AND RELEASES BRAKES. DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED I REPLACE MY FRONT BRAKES AND THEY TRIED TO SAY IT WAS ALSO THE TIRES. THEY WERE ABLE TO REPRODUCE IT BUT NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT LET ME KNOW IT WASN'T FIXED AND NEARLY ROLLED OUT ONTO A HEAVY TRAFFIC ROAD. I CALLED THEM AND INFORMED THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND ASKED WHY THEY LET ME DRIVE A UNSAFE VEHICLE BUT WHEN I ASKED THAT THEY REMOVE THE FUSE FOR THE ABS SYSTEM UNTIL I CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. THEY SAID THAT WAS UNSAFE AND NOT LEGAL FOR THEM TO REMOVE THE FUSE. I ASKED POHANKA CHEVY HOW IS THAT ANY MORE OR LESS UNSAFE THEN NO BRAKES TO STOP. IT IS THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM THAT IS FAILING FOR SOME REASON AND WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN RECALLED TO FIX. POHANKA ONLY OFFERED A APOLOGY BUT WILL NOT FIX OR HELP AND I NOW HAVE A UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT COULD FAIL ME AND CAUSE ME TO HAVE A ACCIDENT. I SPENT $785.41 AND THEY DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO REPORTED THEM TO MY STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S CONSUMER DIVISION OFFICE. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 12 YEARS AND I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF IT. NEVER HAD THIS KIND OF PROBLEM UNTIL 3 DAYS AGO. DO A RECALL ON THIS ABS BRAKING SYSTEM!
AT A LOW SPEED BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD WITHOUT STOPPING. IT SEEMED AS IF THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED. NO BRAKES AS MY CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD AT THIS LOW SPEED EVENTUALLY REAR ENDING ANOTHER CAR AS MINE NEVER STOPPED. THE BRAKES HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED 2 YEARS PRIOR. I HAD THIS CAR CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS SAME INCONSISTENT BRAKE ISSUE BUT NOTHING WAS NEVER FOUND. AT TIMES THERE WOULD BE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AND MY FOOT WOULD JUST GO TO THE FLOOR WITH NO STOPPING. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT GM HAS NEVER ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. I HAVE SPENT SO MUCH MONEY OVER THE YEARS TO TRY AND ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND NO MECHANIC COULD EVER FIGURE IT OUT. NOW MY CAR IS TOTALED AND I HAVE AN INSURANCE BILL THAT IS NOT ONLY COSTLY BUT NOT FAIR. GM SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN NO ACCOUNTABILITY AND I JUST HOPE NO ONE ENDS UP HURT. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE IF I WAS TRYING TO STOP AT A CROSSWALK WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED. I WAS BORROWING MY GRANDFATHERS CAR AND FEEL TERRIBLE.
BRAKES LOCKING IN THE 20-35 MPH RANGE. LOCKS WHILE SLOWING DOWN AND VAN SMELLS VEHICLE GETTING HOT. HAVE TAKEN TO A FIRESTONE AND CHEVY DEALER AND COMPLETED ALL SUGGESTED REPAIRS, ALTHOUGH NO ONE WAS ABLE TO GIVE ME A DEFINITIVE REASON TO THE BRAKES LOCKING. REPAIRS DID NOT FIX BRAKE LOCKING ISSUE.
ABS ENGAGES AT LOW SPEEDS, MAKES BRAKE PEDAL VERY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS AND DIFFICULT TO STOP VEHICLE. (THIS OCCURS REGARDLESS OF TURNING/GOING STRAIGHT, AND HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED AND/OR WHEN IT'S RELEASED, AND SOMETIMES WHEN I'M NOT TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ALL.) THIS OCCURS DAILY, AND AFTER SOME TIME, THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS WILL COME ON IN THE DASHBOARD. ONCE THE WARNING LIGHTS ACTIVATE, THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. SERVICED IN 4/2017 AT CERTIFIED GARAGE, AND WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. ONLINE AUTO FORUM RESEARCH SHOWS MANY EARLY MODEL EQUINOX OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE, GOING ALL THE WAY BACK TO 2011. CHEVROLET HAS NO RECALLS THAT I'VE FOUND - BUT CLEARLY THERE ARE A NUMBER OF EQUINOX OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES, WITH NO RESPONSE FROM CHEVROLET. I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH THAT THIS HASN'T CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET... BUT I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE EXAMINED BEFORE SOMETHING DESTRUCTIVE OR TRAGIC OCCURS. I WILL CONTINUE TO ATTEMPT TO HAVE THE ISSUE DIAGNOSED AT CERTIFIED ASE GARAGES.
MY WIFE AND I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY EQUINOX A FEW MONTHS AGO THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT REPEATEDLY STARTED COMING ON CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PULSATE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC THEY REPLACED ALL OF THE HUB BEARINGS SEEING THE CODES WE PULLED THOSE THE LOCK RING WAS BAD. DID NO GOOD SCAN THE VEHICLE AGAIN DIFFERENT CODES CAME OUT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT I SEE MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE EQUINOX THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. I PLAN ON CONTACTING MY ATTORNEY TOMORROW TO SEE IF THERE'S ANYTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT I'M ALREADY $1,000 AND REPAIR OVER A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED.
MY CHEVY EQUINOX HAS BEEN IN TWO DIFFERENT SHOPS INCLUDING CHEVROLET NUMEROUS TIMES. I HAVE SPENT PLENTY OF MONEY. BUT, STILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ABS & TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS PERIODICALLY COMING ON AND WITH THE UNCERTAINTY THAT MY BRAKES ARE GOING TO WORK PROPERLY EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO DRIVE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS EXACT PROBLEM WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? IT IS VERY UNSAFE. CHEVY HAS BEEN GUESSING AND JUST CHANGING DIFFERENT PARTS THAT DIDN'T NEED CHANGED. THEY EVEN TALKED TO CORPORATE OFFICE AND SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS FOR SURE. PLEASE TELL ME HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE? WHEN IT APPARENTLY ISN'T A ISOLATED INCIDENT. THEY ACTED LIKE THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS SITE IS EVIDENCE ITS A PROBLEM! I WAS TOLD BY PERSON/PERSONS AT BOTH SHOPS IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. ARE THEY DRIVING THE SAME CAR I'M DRIVING? BECAUSE IT IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. BRAKES LOCK UP RANDOMLY OR GRIND AS CAR CONTINUES TO MOVE FORWARD SEVERAL FEET EVEN ONCE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IT MATCHES DESCRIPTION OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ALONG WITH THE PULSATION. I HAVE PROBABLY TEN DIFFERENT INVOICES BUT IT WON'T LET ME LOAD ALL OF THEM AND THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS.
GRINDING, MOANING, STARTS UNSAFE STOPPING DISTANCE AND HAPPENS OUT OF BLUE, ABS/TC LIGHTS OFF AND ON, SO FAR EVERYTHING I HAVE READ ONLINE IT SEEMS TO BE A WHEELSPEED SENSOR OR HARNESS. AT TIMES BRAKES WILL ALSO BE HARD AS ROCK NO WARNING AND HAVE NO BRAKES AT ALL. BEEN HAPPENING FOR AWHILE OFF AND ON

THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE BRAKES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 133,785.
THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD AT TIMES AND HAVE GRINDING NOISE FROM BRAKE PEDAL AND IT PUSHES BACK AND IT HAS AND AND TRAC CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON
WE HAVE NOTICED THE ABS AND TC LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY LIGHT UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL UPON BRAKING/TURNING TO THE LEFT, AS WELL AS, WHEN BRAKING/HITTING A BUMP OR ROUGH TERRAIN. WE HAVE TAKEN TO A MECHANIC TO BE TOLD THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIX ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS; THAT THIS IS A DEALERSHIP ISSUE. THIS IS A CAUSE FOR CONCERN DUE TO THE FACT OUR 75 YEAR OLD MOTHER DOESN'T DRIVE IT ALL THE TIME; HOWEVER, WHEN SHE DOES DRIVE, WE ARE WORRIED FOR HER SAFETY AND OUR CHILDREN'S SAFETY WHEN THEY'RE WITH HER. I AM SHOCKED GM HAS NOT RECALLED THIS.
I AM SUBMITTING INFORMATION TO REPORT A SAFETY COMPLAIN IN REGARDS TO A 2006 CHEVY EQUINOX. I HAVE HAD BRAKES AND BRAKE PEDAL ISSUES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW IN BOTH CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. THE ISSUES OCCUR AT ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT STOP SIGNS AND STOP LIGHTS. THIS IS THE FIRST OF ANY MAJOR ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. MY ISSUES ARE BREAK RESISTANCE AND VIBRATIONS. ALONG WITH GETTING MY BRAKES AND ROTORS FIXED AND/OR CHANGED EARLIER IN THE YEAR, I STARTED FEELING BRAKE VIBRATIONS INITIALLY. AFTER GETTING THE ROTORS CHECKED, IT HAPPENED SOON AFTER AND "GRADUATED" TOWARDS A RESISTANCE WHERE I WAS UNABLE TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN UNLESS I PUMPED MY BREAKS REPEATEDLY TO RELEASE THE PEDAL LOCKING. I RECENTLY GOT MY LEFT FRONT SPEED SENSOR AND HUB ASSEMBLY REPLACED IN HOPES IT WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. 3-4 WEEKS LATER, THE RESISTANCES HAS SEEM TO GOT A LOT STRONGER/BIGGER. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME SEVERAL ACCIDENTS AT THE STOP LIGHT AND I AM NOW TRYING TO SAVE TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED AS I WAS QUOTED ABOUT $2K INITIALLY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ANY VEHICLE AND EQUINOX THAT HAS THIS ISSUE. I HAVE SAVED MYSELF FROM SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WITH QUICK AWARENESS AND ACTION AND BUT I AM NOT SURE HOW LUCKY OTHERS HAVE BEEN. THE RESISTANCE IN THE BREAKS AND VIBRATION IS VERY NOTICEABLE AND CONTINUOUSLY HAPPENS UNTIL THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS UP ON THE DASH BOARD INDICATING THEY ARE DEACTIVATED/DISABLED. THIS IS WHEN BRAKING BECOMES MUCH EASIER WITH LITTLE TO NO RESISTANCE AND VIBRATING. BETWEEN THE SPEED SENSOR, HUB ASSEMBLY, I HAVE SPENT JUST OVER $1K IN EXPENSES AND THIS WILL CONTINUE TO RISE WITH THE NEXT REPAIR OF WIRE HARNESS AND/OR REPLACEMENT OF ABS SYSTEM IN HOPES IT CORRECTS THE ISSUE. PLEASE CONSIDER MY COMPLAINT IN HOPES OF RECALL TO PREVENT FURTHER ISSUES AND POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS TO INNOCENT PEOPLE.

PROBLEM WITH ABS SYSTEM. WHEN STOPPING AT LOW SPEEDS ( 5MPH) THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES EVERY TIME. WE HAVE HAD ALL BRAKE PADS, SHOES, ROTORS, AND DISC REPLACED. STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT HUB BEARING, THE WIRING HARNESS AND CONNECTED THE LOSE CONNECTION SPEED SENSOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOR THE FIFTH TIME AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH AT APPROXIMATELY 100 FT FROM A STOP LIGHT I LIGHTLY TAPPED MY BRAKE. IMMEDIATELY MY ANTI LOCK BRAKE CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING AT THE SAME SPEED. I PRESS THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP THE BRAKE COMPLETELY DISABLED . AS I GOT WITHIN ABOUT 30 FT OF THE RED LIGHT THE CAR STOPPED AND THE BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. IT WAS A DRY DAY THE ROAD WAS SMOOTH THERE IS NO REASON THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SHOULD COME ON. TODAY 9/9/14 I PICKED UP MY DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL . AS I PROCEEDED TO EXIT THE SCHOOL GOING ABOUT 10MPH THE ANTILOCK BRAKE CAME ON DISABLING THE BRAKE. I PRESS THE BREAK ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND IT ROLLED AND CAME TO A STOP. IT'S VERY DRY AND THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SHOULD COME ON. I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS CAR NEVER HAD ANY RECALLS AND THAT MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THEREFORE IT'S MY RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I TOLD THE REP THAT I WILL REPORT IT BECAUSE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
AFTER STOPPING WHEN DRIVING LONGER DISTANCES THE FRONT LEFT BRAKE WOULD FAIL TO DISENGAGE, SO THAT THE BRAKE WOULD REMAIN ON WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE ON INTERSTATE. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS COLLAPSING WHEN HOT PREVENTING BRAKE FLUID TO BRAKE. THE LEFT ONE WENT BAD FIRST, BUT BY THE TIME I FOUND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS I HAD TO HAVE THE ROTOR, CALIPER AND PADS ALL REPLACED ALSO. AFTER IT WAS REPLACED EVERYTHING WAS GREAT FOR ABOUT 30 DAYS AND THEN THE RIGHT ONE STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I HAD THE RIGHT BRAKE LINE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY AND IT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM WITH NO ADDITIONAL COSTS. WE HAD A VERY RAINY SPRING SO AS LONG AS THERE WAS WATER ON THE ROAD THE BRAKE WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY BECAUSE THE WATER WOULD KEEP IT COOL, BUT ON DRY DAYS IT WOULD STICK. IT FINALLY GOT TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS JUST STUCK ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER WAS. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD EVER HEARD OF A BRAKE LINE COLLAPSING SHUT... THE VEHICLE HAD 69,000 MILES ON IT WHEN PURCHASED IT NOW HAS 82,000 MILES AND THE STARTER JUST STARTED STICKING A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START IT. I STILL LOVE THE WAY IT HANDLES AND DRIVES THOUGH. *TR
THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL DASH LIGHTS COME ON. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING IT OCCASIONALLY FIXES THE PROBLEM. AFTER A FEW WEEKS THE LIGHTS BECOME PERSISTENT AND SHUTTING OFF AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE NO LONGER FIXES THE PROBLEM. SOMETIMES WHEN DRIVING AROUND 10-15 MPH, THE BRAKES ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PUSH AND STOPPING THE CAR BECOMES A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. I HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACE THE ENTIRE ABS HUB ASSEMBLY AND THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A MONTH. THE PROBLEM HAS NOW RETURNED AND IS WORSE THAN BEFORE. *TR
THE ABS AND T/C LIGHTS COME ON AFTER DRIVING. IF THE CAR HAS BEEN TURNED OFF, AND YOU TURN THE CAR BACK ON, THE LIGHTS WILL NOT COME ON WHILE DRIVING AROUND OR UNDER 10MPH, BUT THE SYMPTOMS ARE THAT THE BRAKES WILL GRIND AND BE VERY HARD TO PUSH, VERY DANGEROUS WHEN BRAKING BEHIND SOMEBODY WAITING TO PULL OUT OF A DRIVEWAY INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION. AFTER ACCELERATING TO 20MPH OR FASTER, THE BRAKE ISSUE MIGHT GO AWAY, BUT THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS WILL COME ON. THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN FOR THE 2006 CHEVY EQUINOX TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE PIGTAIL WIRING HARNESS. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE, IT PULSATED AND THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WE PURCHASED IT FROM FOR REPAIR. THEY REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/HUB ASSEMBLY AND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACED THE ROTORS. APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER, THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN WITH THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON AGAIN. THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT IS ON. AS YOU BRAKE, THE BRAKES PULSATE LIKE THEY ARE TRYING TO ADJUST THEMSELVES. THIS IS SCARY AS YOU FEAR YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP OR REAR END SOMEONE EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WE NEED TO TRADE THIS VEHICLE IN, BUT WHO WANTS SOMETHING CHEVROLET WON'T OR CAN'T FIX? *TR
