The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked, stalled, and made a clicking sound while idling. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the exhaust camshaft timing was over-advanced beyond limits for a predetermined period, the system performance catalyst was low efficiency, and the evaporator systems had a small leak. The contact stated that two calipers and the boot of the axle were previously repaired due to a leak. The mechanic stated that the contact needed to replace the engine variable valve timing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,823.

I bought a Chevy Equinox in 6/2020 and have had high oil consumption problems. I took it in to where I bought it and they said it was a catalog converter problem along with seals and pistons that could damage your engine. After researching it, i found out there was a recall and class action suit fought in 2018 for the same problem. I was never told about this from the dealer and because it's outside the date to fix under the recall and warranty I have to pay for all the damage. The car broke down yesterday and had to be towed. What can I do? I'm still financing the vehicle

MY CAR BEGAN OVERCONSUMING OIL THE MOMENT I BOUGHT IT IN 2016. IT BROKE DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD NO OIL IT EVEN THOUGH I JUST HAD THE OIL REPLACED MERELY DAYS BEFORE. WE WERE IN ANOTHER STATE, SO I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND RENTED A RENTAL CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IT COST ME OVER $1,000 TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR AND ASSOCIATED RENTAL COSTS. ULTIMATELY, THE CAR WAS SUBJECT TO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE HAD TO BE REBUILT. LAST YEAR, MY TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET. I HAD TO GET THAT REPLACED TOO. NOW GM IS REFUSING TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR UNDER THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE.

ENGINE'S OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES ARE RIDICULOUS. GM HAS A SPECIAL EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS VEHICLE, CALLED ADJUSTMENT 14159, BUT FAILED TO NOTIFY ME OF THE SPECIAL RECALL AND IT'S END DATE OF 7/31/2019. THIS ENGINE IS AWFUL, HENCE WHY THERE WERE RECALLS AND THEY ARE NOW BEING SUED FOR IT. TIMING CHAINS, ENGINE KNOCKING, OIL CONSUMPTION, PISTONS AND RINGS.. SECONDLY, THE TRANSMISSION IS AWFUL. THIS THING BLEW BEFORE IT WAS EVEN DUE FOR ITS FIRST SERVICE! MY OWNERS MANUAL STATES THE SERVICE IS RECOMMENDED ON IT, INCLUDING FLUID CHANGE, AT 100,000 MILES - I'M AT 96,125 MILES AND THIS IS WHERE I SIT. GM IS DENYING ALL LIABILITY FOR BOTH OF THESE.

I CALLED CHEVROLET THEY ONLY WANT TO COVER HALF THE PARTS TO REPAIR WHICH WILL COST ME AN ADDITIONAL $3,000. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN AT $1,800 AND THE TRANSMISSION AT ANOTHER $3,700.

IT IS NOW THE BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER AND I AM REPLACING THE TIMING CHAIN AGAIN. WHY AM I READING THIS WEBSITE AND SEEING THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE EQUINOX TIMING CHAIN AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY GM. THEY SHOULD RECEIVE CONSEQUENCES FOR A FAULTY PRODUCT. ANOTHER INCIDENT, MY SON WAS DRIVING AND HE SAID IT JUST "WOULDN'T DRIVE", LUCKILY HE WAS NEAR A RELATIVES HOUSE AND PULLED INTO THE DRIVE. HE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE CAR AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THE CAR IS NOW AT A CHEVY DEALER. NOW THIS MAY NOT BE DEEMED A "SAFETY ISSUE", BUT WHAT IS THE ISSUE, THE CAR ONLY HAS 65,000 AND WE ARE BEING TOLD BY CHEVY THAT THE CAR NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN DECELERATION WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN WINTER CONDITIONS. MANY NEAR ACCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE I STRUGGLED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND EXIT THE INTERSTATE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. LOUD KNOCKING FROM THE ENGINE AND A STRONG GAS SMELL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED. THE ENGINE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, SUCH AS INTERSECTIONS AS I WENT STRAIGHT TO A NEARBY CHEVROLET DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THE REAR MAIN SEAL BLEW OUT CAUSING A SUDDEN LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. THEY ALSO SAID THIS HAPPENED DUE TO HIGH POSITIVE PRESSURE IN THE CRANKCASE DUE TO A FROZEN OR BLOCKED PCV VALVE. GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AS STATED IN THE GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE BULLETIN 14882. HOWEVER, GM SAYS MY VIN DOES NOT APPLY IN THIS CASE. DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE, I FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LET SOMEONE KNOW SO OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR VEHICLES COULD BE NOTIFIED OF THE EXTREME HAZARD. *TR

WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN DEC 2014 AT 42,000 MILES AS A CERTIFIED PRE OWNED $15000 CASH. THE VEHICLE STARTED EXPERIENCING ENGINE TROUBLE IN JULY 2016 IT WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF OF DIAGNOSTICS FOR EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION AND ENGINE REPAIR. AFTER THE CARE BROKE DOWN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE BACKSEAT. AUG 2016 THE CAR STALLS AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN IN IT. THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. WE HAVENT EVEN OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 2 YEARS. IT ONLY HAS 76,000 MILES ON IT. BUT GM SAYS ITS PAST THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY MARK BY 8 MONTHS SO THEY WONT HELP. I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THESE ISSUES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. THERE ARE STORIES ALL OVER THE INTERNET WHERE PEOPLE HAVE STALLED ON HIGHWAYS FROM THIS ISSUE! IT NEEDS TO GE RECALLED. ALSO EXPERIENCING GAS SMELL WHILE I'M DRIVING OR WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ALSO IT'S NOT NORMAL FOR THE ENGINE TO LOSE 3 QUARTS OF OIL OUT OF 5QTS WITHIN 3000 MILES. STARTED NOTICING THE LOST OF OIL MAY OF 2013. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY REPLACE THE ENGINE AND OTHER PARTS THAT GO ALONG WITH THAT REPAIR. JULY OF 2013 SAME PROBLEM OCCUR AGAIN, LOST OF OIL AGAIN, AND THEN THEY REPLACE FRONT DRIVE AXLE INNER SHAFT SEAL. ALSO TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SHOP FOR OIL LOST ON DEC.31, 2013 FOR LOSING 3 QTS OIL OUT OF 5QTS. THEY TELL US THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THEY SAID THEY INSPECTED IT FOR OIL LEAKS, BUT IF THEY WOULD OF CHECK THE OIL DIP STICK THEY WOULD HAVE SEEN THE LOST OF 3QTS OF OIL. ALSO I HAVE PICTURES THAT I TOOK OF THE OIL DIP STICK SHOWING ONLY 2QTS OF OIL ON DEC.17 2013. ALSO WE HAVE CONTACTED GM AND NO HELP FROM THEM. I'VE INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM I LEARNED THAT I?M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. ALSO ON THE INVOICE THAT I RECEIVED THEY DID NOT DO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH INVOLVES MORE THAN JUST CHECKING FOR LEAKS? SEEM LIKE THERE NOT FOLLOWING THE SERVICE PROCEDURES. IT'S OBVIOUSLY AN INTERNAL DEFECT IN THE 2.4 LITER ENGINE THAT CAUSES IT TO BURN THAT MUCH OIL. ALSO I HAVE ALL MY PAPERS WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP. ALSO THEY GAVE US A COPY OF THE MULTI-POINT INSPECTION WHERE IT INDICATES THE FUEL SYSTEM, ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, DRIVE AXLE; TRANSFER CASE REQUIRES ATTENTION SOON, WOW YOU THINK THAT'S WHY MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. *TR
