Its iz using 2 or 3 courts of oil every 200 miles
Chevy sold the Equinox knowing full well that it had engine problems. The oil system fails, using oil at an excessive rate and oil dumping from engine. They were aware that around 80,000 miles the car would need over $4000 in repairs. They also knew the timing chain gets off timing causing over $2000 in repairs. Both of which happened to my vehicle within 6 months. The Engine ceased up and was undrivable. It sat in our driveway for over 18 months while we paid off the loan.
THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER SENSOR CAME ON AND SHUT DOWN. IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE DUE TO LACK OF OIL DUE TO BENT PISTON RINGS AND THE OIL ESCAPING. ALL OF THAT WAS REPAIRED AND MAYBE 6 MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND IT WAS DECIDED THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE TO THE ENGINE BASED ON THE PREVIOUS OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. THE ENGINE WAS THEN REPLACED AS WELL AS THE ECM BOARD DUE TO OIL BEING ALL OVER IT COMPLETELY RUINING THE SENSORS. WE ALSO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE EVAP SYSTEM DUE LACK OF OXYGEN AND THE CAR CONSTANTLY CHOCKING OUT WHILE IN MOTION AND WHILE IDELING. WE FILED OUR CLAIM WHEN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT CAME OUT AND OF COURSE WE'RE DENIED, JUST LIKE THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE DUE TO THERE BEING 'LACK OF PROOF' THAT IT WAS DUE TO LACK OF OIL. I WAS CONSTANTLY CHECKING MY OIL, GETTING IT CHANGED, ADDING THE RIGHT OIL WHEN IT WAS LOW AND BECAUSE I DID NOT DO THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THROUGH GM WE ARE OUT ALMOST 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A CAR THAT STILL HAD ISSUES DUE TO THE LACK OF OIL. THE FIRST TIME IT BROKE DOWN I HAD A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY DID AN INVESTIGATION TO MAKE SURE IT WAS DUE TO A LACK OF OIL CHANGES AND BUILD UP OF DIRTY OIL, IT WAS PROVED THAT THE OIL ESCAPED THROUGH THE BENT PISTON RINGS AND BURNT OFF INSTEAD OF GOING BACK INTO THE ENGINE. THEY DID COVER THE TIMING CHAIN BUT ONCE THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WE NO LONGER HAD THE WARRANTY. I'M NOT SURE WHY THAT INVESTIGATION WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE SETTLEMENT TO GO THROUGH BUT REGARDLESS THESE VEHICLES ARE SO UNSAFE AND MONEY PITS AND ARE STILL BEING SOLD TO INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE GETTING THEMSELVES INTO. A RECALL ABSOLUTELY SHOULD BE MADE.

ENGINE IS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. PER MECHANIC THIS HAS AFFECTED TIMING CHAIN, VALVES, PISTONS FOR WHICH THERE WAS A RECALL. I DO NOT RECALL RECEIVING A NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS NO/VERY LITTLE OIL WHEN I TOOK TO HIM TO CHECK WHAT WAS CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN RUFF AND SOUND RUFF. HE SAID PARTS WERE CAKED WITH OIL. MECHANIC SUGGESTED TO TAKE TO DEALER FOR RECALL KIT REPAIR.
BURNING OIL. I GOT AN OIL CHANGE AND WITHIN LESS THAN A MONTH I HAD NO OIL IN MY CAR. NOT USE AND DRIVEN A LOT EITHER.
DONE A OIL CHANGE AND ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER NO OIL. HAD TO CHANGE THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND NOW THROWING THE CODE 420. RUNS SLUGGISH AND EXHAUST IS NOW BLOWING THROUGH THE VENTS.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I AM EMAILING YOU REGARDING MY 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX AND A REAR MAIN SEAL ISSUE. I FOUND THE BELOW SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING SPECIAL COVERAGE IN MARCH OF 2015 REGARDING THE ISSUE RELATED TO MY VEHICLE. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THIS ISSUE IN PURCHASING MY VEHICLE FROM TEAM ONE CHEVROLET IN CHARLOTTE, MI AND I HAVE RECEIVED ANY ASSISTANCE FROM GM. I HAVE BASICALLY BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS TOO BAD THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE ASSOCIATED VINS THAT WILL ACTUALLY FALL WITHIN THIS COVERAGE. ON MONDAY, JANUARY 21ST WE HAD EXCEPTIONALLY COLD WEATHER IN LANSING, MI AND MY REAR MAIN SEAL BROKE. THIS WAS DUE TO DEFAULT FROM THE PVC, WHICH IS STATED IN THIS BULLETIN. UPON REACHING OUT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THIS ISSUE IS NOT COVERED. IN READING THE BULLETIN, MY CAR IS ONE OF THE IMPACTED CARS; HOWEVER, MY VIN DOES NOT MATCH THE LIST OF 'IMPACTED' VINS. THERE IS NO LOCATION WHERE THE 'IMPACTED" VINS ARE LOCATED FOR PUBLIC VIEW AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINT WITH THE WAY GM IS AND HAS HANDLED THIS ISSUE. MY 2012 EQUINOX HAS ABOUT 122,000 MILES ON IT. I BOUT IT IN 2012, NEW. ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO, IT FREQUENTLY BEGAN TO JERK AND ALMOST STALL OUT WHEN IN DRIVE AND AT A STOP. I WOULD HAVE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL MOST TIMES TO KEEP IT FROM JERKING SO HARD. IT ALSO RAN VERY LOUDLY. THEN A FEW DAYS AGO THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, BUT THEN WENT OFF AFTER I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY AND THEY SAID MY CAR WAS LOW ON OIL, SO I TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY DID. BUT THE ALSO SAID THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY TIMING CHAIN, WHICH WOULD BE ABOUT $2000 DOLLARS AND THEY SAID THAT MY CAR MAY BE BURNING OIL AND IF THAT'S THE CASE THEN I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE TIMING CHAIN AND PISTONS AND THE PRICE WOULD BE DOUBLE. I PICKED MY CAR UP YESTERDAY AFTER THE OIL WAS CHANGED AND THE CARE DROVE FINE. THEN, THIS AFTERNOON WHILE IN THE CAR LINE TO PICK UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL. MY CAR COMPLETELY STALLED OUT WHILE IN DRIVE AND AT A COMPLETE STOP. IT EASILY RESTARTED BUT THEN STALLED OUT AGAIN ABOUT 2 MINUTES LATE IN THE LINE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME AFTER THAT BUT I AM NOW CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY WHEN DRIVING A CAR THAT STALLS OUT WHILE IN DRIVE. I READ UP ON MY VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS WITH THE SAME MAKE,MODEL, AND YEAR. SOMETHING DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS AS GM DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION LEADS TO CHUGGING, DYING & BLOWING CODES. YOU HAVE TO CHECK THE OIL AT EVERY FILL UP OR THE ACTUATORS & THE SELENOID FAIL WHICH THEN RETARDS THE TIMING & TILTS THE CAM SHAFT. I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN I FELT IT POWER DOWN & ALMOST STALL OUT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS VIA GOOGLE ON THIS. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN 14 MONTHS THAT MINE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP. THEY NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM NOT JUST BANDAIDE IT. IT HAS COST ME WAY TO MUCH MONEY & THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD SINCE YOU NEVER NOW WHEN IT IS JUST GOING TO LOSE POWER.
THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH A VALVE IN THE ENGINE THAT CAN BECOME PLUGGED IN COLD WEATHER. ONLY CERTAIN VIN'S WERE COVERED. MY VEHICLE HAD THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM AS THE ONES THAT WERE RECALLED HAD. HOWEVER, BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL GM WOULD NOT COVER MY REPAIR COSTS.
2012 CHEVY EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR VEHICLE REPAIRS. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SMELLED HOT, STALLED, AND MADE A BANGING NOISE. IT BEGAN CHUGGING AND DIED. THE PCV WAS CLEANED AND THE MAIN BEARING OIL SEAL WAS REPLACED. *JS
MY 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO OIL WARNING, NOTHING. THE VEHICLE JUST DIED, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WOULDN'T RESTART. IT HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT. I HEARD A KNOCKING/RATTLING FROM THE ENGINE IN SEPT., CHECKED THE OIL & IT WAS BONE DRY! ACCORDING TO LETTER 16118 FROM GM, I WAS TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP IF THIS HAPPENED. I DID, AND STARTED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. GOT OIL TESTED 2 TIMES, ONCE IT WAS FINE, THE NEXT TIME IT WAS LOW. THE 3RD TIME I GOT IT CHECKED WAS WHEN IT WAS TOWED IN FROM MY EXPERIENCE LISTED ABOVE. I WAS A QUART LOW. NOW I HAVE A BLOWN-UP ENGINE AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO PAY $750.00 FOR THEM TO TAKE APART THE ENGINE TO FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE. I'M ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THIS ENTIRE SITUATION. TAKE IT TO SIERRA CHEVROLET ON MONROVIA, THE PERSON ON SERVICE DEPARTMENT, MENTION THAT I NEED TO PAY $150 FOR DIAGNOSTIC THE PROBLEM, + NEED TO PAY 3 OIL CHANGE TO SEE IF THIS TRUCK HAS THE ISSUE MENTION ON BULLETIN: 13-06-01-003F. WHY I NEED TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT MY FAULT. DEFECT OF MANUFACTURING. MOTION.
MY 2012 EQUINOX BEGAN BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL. I HAD TO ADD OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS UNDER THE GM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION #12312A WHICH INITIALLY ONLY COVERED THE 2010 TO 2011 EQUINOX. THIS SAME ISSUE IS ALSO COVERED UNDER TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #13-06-01-003H. BASED ON THIS ISSUE, MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET STARTED SO SPUTTER WHILE DRIVING AND FINALLY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET A DEALERSHIP APPOINTMENT AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE COMPLETE AUTO CARE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE LOW OIL LIKELY CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO JUMP AND RECOMMEND I SHOULD SEE THE DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AS THIS WAS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAS 85K MILES AND THE WARRANTY RAN OUT 5 MONTHS AGO. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE TIMING CHAIN AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1,600.00. SIMILAR ISSUE TO THE 2010 AND 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX WHICH IS BEING REPLACED. WAS ALSO TOLD THE OIL CONSUMPTION WOULD HAVE TO BE PERFORMED AFTER THE TIMING CHAIN FIX AND WOULD ALSO BE AT MY EXPENSE. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT ISSUES FOR THIS VEHICLE AND GM IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED FOR THE 2010 AND 2011 VEHICLES AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BUT THE ISSUE IS ALSO AFFECTING THE 2012 AND 2013 AS GM HAS ISSUED SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THEM BUT ARE NOT FIXING A KNOWN ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS TO CUSTOMERS DRIVING AS THE CAR CAN COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE FOR VEHICLE OWNERS AND AN EXPENSIVE ONE FOR CUSTOMERS FROM WHICH GM IS AVOIDING TAKING RESPONSIBILITY.
OUT OF NOWHERE, I GET AN ALERT STATING 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER' AND 'SERVICE STABILITRAK' OFF. I CANNOT GO OVER 30 MPH AND THE ENGINE HAS TROUBLE HOLDING POWER. SEVERAL WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS MESSAGE, I WOULD FEEL A LIGHT ENGINE SPUTTER, BT THE ENGINE WOULD THEN KICK BACK INTO GEAR. THIS HAPPENS ON THE INTERSTATE AND ON CITY STREETS. APPARENTLY THIS IS INCREDIBLY COMMON ON A LOT OF CHEVROLET VEHICLES AS EVIDENCE ON THE EQUINOXFORUM BLOG.
PURCHASED VEHICLE USED WITH 64000 MILES AUG 24TH, 2015. AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS THE CAR STALLED WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. RE-STARTED IT AND IT STALLED AGAIN. HAPPENED AGAIN IN LATE SEPT, ONCE IN OCT AND AGAIN IN NOV. DEALER REPLACED FAULTY INTAKE SOLENOID 11-13-15. LEAVING FOR WORK ON JAN 19TH AND NOTICED OIL LEAK (NO LOW OIL LIGHT). DROVE STRAIGHT TO DEALERSHIP. 1/4 MILE OUT MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON SAYING REDUCED ENGINE POWER, DROPS ME TO 30 MPH. GET TO DEALERSHIP AND IT'S A BLOWN REAR SEAL. REPLACED LOOSE TIMING AND BALANCE SHAFT CHAIN, WATER PUMP, COOLANT FLUSH ( I PAID FOR) ABS LIGHT CAME ON, SO SENSOR WAS FOUND TO BE "OPEN" ALSO FOUND CHUNK OF MAGNET MISSING FROM WHEEL BEARING. CAR IN SHOP FOR 9 DAYS. PICKED UP ON 1-28-16. STALLED AGAIN 4 X ON 2-4-16. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR REPLACED. STALLED AGAIN 2-7-16 AND 2-8-16. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP ON 2-8-16. NO WORD FROM THEM YET. THE CAR HAS LEFT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION TURNING LEFT TWICE!! I COULD BE KILLED BY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND 1000'S OF PEOPLE DEALING WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. SEVERAL HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE STALL WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY!! THE ISSUES EXISTS ON 2010, 2011 AND 2012 MODELS. GM NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO FIX. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE GM WILL DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE?? THESE VEHICLES ARE ALSO KNOWN FOR BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE, THEY NOTED IT WAS A QUART LOW. STILL NO LOW OIL LIGHT EVER CAME ON. ONE ARTICLE I READ SAID THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY A COATING THAT WAS SPRAYED INSIDE THE CAMSHAFT DURING PRODUCTION IS NOW LEAKING INTO THE FUEL/OIL CAUSING METAL FRAGMENTS AND DIRT TO BE IN THE OIL.
OIL CONSUMPTION 4000 MILES BONE DRY. WHEN STOP AT A LIGHT, BACKING UP THE CAR STALLS OUT. I HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE. NOW DOING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I ONLY HAVE 45000 MILES ON MY 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AROUND 39,000 MILES ALSO AM READING THIS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING A LOT OF EQUINOXS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT!!!!!!!!!

WHILE DRIVING DOWN I-96 IN MICHIGAN AT MILE 62, I FELT AN EXPLOSION UNDER MY FEET. THERE WAS A LARGE CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE FOLLOWED BY FLAMES UNDERNEATH AND OUT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RAN TO SAFETY WHILE WATCHING THE VEHICLE BURN UNDERNEATH. THE AIR DRAFT FROM PASSING TRAFFIC EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. QUALIFIED TECHNICIANS AT OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER HAVE TOLD US THERE IS A GOLF-BALL SIZE HOLE AND A SOFTBALL SIZE HOLE IN THE ENGINE IN ADDITION TO NUMEROUS ISSUES RESULTING FROM THE FIRE (MELTED FUEL AND BRAKE LINES, CHARRED AND BUBBLED PAINT AND MELTED PLASTIC PARTS, ETC.) ALTHOUGH THIS IS COVERED BY GM WARRANTY AND THEIR INVESTIGATION "TOTALED" THE CAR , CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS NOT OFFERED ASSISTANCE THAT WILL COVER REPLACEMENT OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
HI, MY 2012 EQUINOX STALLED ON ME WHILE I WAS IN REVERSE. I WAS BACKING OUT A DRIVE WAY AND IT STARTED TO JERK. AFTER JERKING IT DID EVENTUALLY GO IN GEAR. ONCE I PUT IT IN DRIVE I DROVE NO LESS THEN A MILE AND THE CAR CUT OFF. I TURN IT BACK ON AND PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND IT STALLED OUT AGAIN. THAT WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT IT HAPPEN A SECOND TIME ON 5/2/15. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR WAS JERKING WHEN AT A STOP LIGHT AND THEN IT STALLED OUT ON ME AGAIN. AM NOT SURE WHY THIS IS HAPPENING CONSIDERING I DO HAVE REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE ON MY CAR. IF THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE PLEASE LET ME. THANKS *TR
