Component Malfunction and Availability for Inspection: The vehicle’s infotainment system is critically malfunctioning and poses a serious safety threat. The issue has persisted despite four service attempts, and GM refuses to repair it. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: This malfunction creates an extremely hazardous driving condition. While traveling at highway speeds in unfamiliar, high-traffic areas, the system has suddenly frozen, pixelated, emitted loud static from the speakers, and disabled all controls. In one incident during Chicago rush hour (65 mph zone), I lost navigation, audio controls, and screen functionality simultaneously. The sudden, jarring noise and visual failure distracted me and left me unaware of my location. With no safe exits, I had to dangerously operate my phone while steering through speeding traffic just to regain directions—putting my life and others at risk. This wasn’t a choice, it was a desperate action forced by a system failure. This situation was terrifying, disorienting, and could have easily resulted in a crash. Reproduction/Confirmation of the Problem: The issue has not been successfully reproduced by the dealer, despite recurring complaints and multiple service visits. It occurs regardless of whether a device is connected via Bluetooth or USB, and with different users' phones. Inspection by Others: The manufacturer has failed to correct the issue after repeated attempts. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police or insurance representatives. Warning Signs and Timeline: No warning lamps or messages appear before the failure. It strikes without notice. The system shows severe symptoms: frozen screen, distorted sound, mismatched song info, unresponsive buttons, and audio continuing after the car is shut off. Restarting the vehicle does not fix it. The randomness and severity of these failures make the vehicle unsafe to operate, especially in high-speed or unfamiliar driving conditions.
The contact's wife owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that a strong, burnt rubber odor could be smelled while taking out the trash in the middle of the night. Soon after, the contact stated that the front passenger side window shattered as flames began to emit from the vehicle. The contact immediately rushed to move his other vehicle away from the burning vehicle while on the phone with the authorities. There were no occupants inside the vehicle at the time of the failure. The authorities arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed; however, the contact never received a copy of the report. Police were also present at the scene of the fire but were not certain if a report was filed. Per the fire investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by the driver-side seat warmer. No physical injuries were reported; however, both the contact and his wife suffered severe emotional distress. No property damage was reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard where it remained in their possession. The vehicle had yet to be labeled as destroyed by the contact's insurance company. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 16,989.
In my 2024 chevy equinox after about 4months of ownership, our car is no longer blowing cold air and or blowing out enough air flow. It has only gotten worst.
