WHEN THE TIRES NEEDED REPLACING ON THE CAR, I SPENT $1100.00 ON A SET OF PREMIUM TIRES, AFTER 10,000 MILES I NOTICED A ROARING SOUND FROM THE TIRES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TIRE DEALER. HE SAID THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ALIGNMENT OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE TIRES TO WEAR UNEVEN, I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY 5,000 MILES, I TOOK THE CAR STRAIGHT TO MY CHEVY. DEALER. I WAS TOLD THE STRUTS WOULD HAVE TO BE GROUND OFF AND THE CAR REALIGNED AND THE COST WOULD BE MINE. I WORRY ABOUT THIS KIND OF REPAIR WHEN YOU ALTER THE PART BY MIS-SHAPING THE PART. THE COST TO ME WAS $197.00 AFTER HEARING ABOUT OTHER OWNERS WITH THE PROBLEM. I WORRY ABOUT TAKING ROAD TRIPS WITH MY VEHICLE. I THINK THAT GM SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE AND THE PROPER FIX DONE TO THE VEHICLES FOR THE SAFETY OF THE CAR OWNERS. I LIKE THE CAR FINE, EXCEPT FOR THE WORRY OF OUR SAFETY WHILE ON THE ROAD.
I HAD BEEN COMPLAINING TO MY HUSBAND THAT THE CAR'S REAREND HAS POOR STABILITY AND IT'S HARD TO MAINTAIN IT DURING RAIN AND SNOW AND ICE. WHEN WE WENT TO HAVE IT INSPECTED THIS WEEK, WE WERE INFORMED THAT IT COULD NOT PASS AS THE REAR TIRES WERE BALD ON THE INSIDE. AS IT TURNS OUT, THERE HAVE BEEN REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, AND A RECALL WAS DONE ONLY ON THE POLICE MODELS? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHAT ABOUT THE AVERAGE PERSON DRIVING THIS CAR???? WE ARE NOT AS IMPORTANT. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A PROBLEM AND NOW I HAVE TO GET NEW TIRES (THAT ONLY HAVE ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON THEM) AT MY FREAKING EXPENSE AND I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE SUSPENSION FIXED. VEHICLE HAD BEEN PULLING TO THE RIGHT. IT ALSO NEEDED OIL CHANGE ALSO SO TOOK IT TO LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, ALEXANDRIA MOTORS. THE SERVICE TECH INFORMED ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE TIRES SINCE THEY WERE WORN TO THE TREAD. THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY SO I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THIS WAS A FREQUENT (NORMAL?) OCCURRENCE ON THESE VEHICLES DUE TO FACTORY DEFECTS. I PAID THE $581.12 FOR TIRES AND REPAIR DUE TO THE FAULTY ALIGNMENT FROM FACTORY. I WAS NOT AWARE OF EXTENSIVE INVOLVEMENT UNTIL I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH RECENTLY. I DID KEEP THE RECEIPTS, ETC AND HAVE HAD NO SUBSEQUENT PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE NOW HAVING OVER 40,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES REAR TIRE SPINDLE ROD PROBLEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS WORN OUT SEVERAL REAR TIRES DUE TO THE REAR SPINDLE ROD PROBLEM. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS, WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE REAR SPINDLE RODS WERE FAULTY AND CAUSED THE TIRES TO PREMATURELY WEAR. THE FAULTY REAR SPINDLE RODS ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO THE MISALIGNMENT OF THE VEHICLE. A SET OF FOUR TIRES WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT BOTH REAR TIRES EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE WEAR. THE MECHANIC REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES AND PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT. APPROXIMATELY 7,000 MILES AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRES, THE CONTACT NOTICED EXCESSIVE WEAR ON BOTH REAR TIRES AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC, WHERE BOTH REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED AND ALIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ADDRESSING THE FAILURE, BUT THE RECALL ONLY INCLUDED POLICE ISSUED VEHICLES. HAD SEVERAL TIRES WEAR OUT PREMATURELY ON THE IMPALA IN THE FIRST YEAR AND HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR CONSTANT ALIGNMENTS EVER SINCE. ISN'T THERE A LAW SUIT REGARDING THIS ISSUE? *TT
MY 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA REQUIRED ALIGNMENT OF ALL 4 WHEELS AFTER 35000 MILES OF USE WHICH IS NOT UNUSUAL. HOWEVER, THE REAR WHEELS REQUIRED A SPECIAL PROCESS WHEREIN BOLTS HAD TO BE PUNCHED OUT AND SHIMMING WAS REQUIRED TO ALLOW PROPER ALIGNMENT. THIS EFFORT DOUBLED MY COST FROM $89.00 TO $178.00. THE PROBLEM IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE GENERAL MOTORS PROBLEMS AND COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT HAS FAILED TO RESPOND TO MY COMPLAINT WHICH WAS SUBMITTED JULY 11TH, 2011. *TT

CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE TIRE WEAR *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL DUE TO A MANUFACTURES DEFECT CAUSING TIRE WEAR. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED COMPENSATION FOR THREE SETS OF TIRES THAT HAD TO BE PUT ON THE VEHICLE BY JANUARY 2010. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER STATED GM WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE CONSUMER. THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE.
PURCHASED 2008 IMPALA SS FACTORY DEMO CAR WITH 3000 MILES AND AT 15000 MILES A REAR TIRE BLEW OUT AT 65 MILES AN HOUR AND ALMOST WRECKED US. REAR TIRES WERE WORE OUT ON INSIDE. DOWN TO THE CORD WHICH AT 15000 MILES SEEMED IMPOSSIBLE. REPLACED TIRES AND DEALER SAID ALIGNMENT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM BUT WAS NORMAL FOR THE MODEL CAR AND NOW AT 23000 MILES REAR TIRES ARE WORE OUT AGAIN ON INSIDE AND FRONT TIRES ARE THE ORIGINAL AND STILL LOOK NEW. WHY CAN'T THE DEALER REPAIR THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF SELLING TIRES EVERY 10000 MILES? I THINK THEY JUST WANT THE EXTRA CASH FLOW DURING THIS TIME THE ECONOMY IS SLOW . *TR
I OWN A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA AND HAVE HAD EXTENSIVE WORK DONE ON THE CAR TO REPAIR THE ALIGNMENT OF MY REAR TIRES. I FIRST NOTICED THE ISSUE WHEN AFTER ROUGHLY 7000 MILES I TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AND I WAS INFORMED THAT MY REAR TIRES HAD THE STEEL BELTS SHOWING. THIS WAS A SHOCK BECAUSE I HAD PURCHASED 80000 MILE TIRES. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO FIXED THE PROBLEM TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY AND THIS PLUS THE COST OF THE TIRE RAN ME ROUGHLY 1000 DOLLARS. PRIOR TO ME GETTING THE CAR IN TO THE SHOP I HAD NOTICED EXTREMELY POOR HANDLING IN THE SNOW, BASICALLY IT FELT AS IF THE REAR OF THE CAR WAS CONSTANTLY SLIDING OUT. *KB
REAR TIRE TREAD ON 2008 IMPALA SS HAVE WORN & BEEN REPLACED TWICE, ONLY 33400 MILES ON CAR. SPINDLE RODS ARE DEFECTIVE AND ITS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE TIRES COULD BLOW OUT AND PEOPLE COULD BE INJURED BADLY. MANUFACTURER DID A RECALL FOR ALL POLICE IMPALA BUT DID NOTHING FOR THE CONSUMER. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 IMPALA, WITH 38,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY REAR TIRES LAST YEAR DUE TO EXCESSIVE INSIDE WEAR. I JUST NOTICED FEW DAYS AGO THAT THIS SAME EXCESSIVE WEAR HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND IT LOOKS WORSE THAN THE FIRST TIME. THIS ISSUE IS FORCING ME TO SPEND ANOTHER $200 ON TIRES AND WORRY ABOUT MY SAFETY. I READ AN ARTICLE THAT THE 2008 IMPALAS HAVE DEFECTIVE SPINDLE RODS, WHICH CONNECT THE SUSPENSION TO THE REAR WHEELS. THE DEFECT CAUSES THE WHEELS TO MISALIGN, WHICH MAKES THE TIRES WEAR OUT FASTER. THE TIRES COULD ALSO WEAR OUT UNEVENLY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A BLOWOUT. GM HAS CORRECTED THIS ISSUE ON THE IMPALAS DRIVEN BY THE POLICE DEPT BUT HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO THE CONSUMER. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND A RECALL ISSUED BY GM ASAP, FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL INVOLVED. *TR
COULD NOT KEEP ALIGNMENT CORRECT. THREE SETS OF TIRES WERE RUINED BY 60,000 M. CONSEQUENCES WERE NOISE OF TIRES, THEN ALIGNMENT COSTS, AND REPLACEMENT OF EXPENSIVE TIRES. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. I PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES FOR THE VEHICLE. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS, I NOTICED THAT BOTH REAR TIRES HAD A STRIP APPROXIMATELY 2 TO 3 INCHES WIDE WORN COMPLETELY BALD. THE STRIP WAS ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE, MOVING TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE TIRE. THE WEAR STRIP WAS SO BAD THAT THE TIRES WERE USELESS AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS DEFECT WAS NOT A TIRE ISSUE, NOR A DRIVER ISSUE. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN BY ADULTS. *TR
2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA IS VERY UNSTABLE ON SNOW OR ICE COVERED ROADS. THE REAR END TENDS TO SWERVE BACK AND FORTH WHEN IT ENCOUNTERS EVEN THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF ICE OR SNOW. I HAVE OVER THIRTY YEARS DRIVING IN MICHIGAN WINTERS AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR SO UNSTABLE IN THESE CONDITIONS. I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY VENTURE AND A 97 BONNEVILLE THAT I DROVE IN THE SAME CONDITIONS (SAME ROAD AND TIME FOR COMPARISON) AND THEY BOTH FELT SOLID EVEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE NOTICED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN INTERNET FORUMS. I HAD THE TIRES INSPECTED BY A TIRE DEALER AND HE SAID THAT THE TIRES ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND THAT THEY HAD ADEQUATE TREAD. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
MY FAMILY WAS TRAVELING TO A FUNERAL DRIVING A 2008 IMPALA AT 75MPH. TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED AND VISUALLY CHECKED FOR WEAR BY GENERAL OBSERVATION.TIRES APPEARED TO HAVE PLENTY OF TREAD AND NO CUPPING. LEFT REAR TIRE DETONATED SENDING TIRE TREAD/BELTS/DEBRIS INTO WHEEL WELL AREA. THIS RIPPED FUEL FILLER ASSEMBLY LOOSE AND SENT IT BELOW CAR WHERE IT TRAILED WITH NO REMAINING FUEL CAP AND FRAYED SENSOR WIRES EXPOSED. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A SAFE STOP BESIDE INTERSTATE. WHEN TRYING TO MAKE TEMPORARY REPAIRS IT WAS NOTICED THAT OPPOSITE REAR TIRE HAD WEAR DOWN TO STEEL BELTS ON INSIDE TWO INCHES. THE REMAINING TIRE APPEARED ALMOST NEW FROM EXTERIOR VIEW. IT WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH BLOWN TIRE AS THIS TIRE WAS JUST AS DEADLY. REPAIR BY INSURANCE EXCEEDED $4,000. CONTACTED CHEVROLET DEALER WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DEADLY SERVICE ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED SO THAT REPAIRS TO REAR SUSPENSION CAN BE MADE. MOST PEOPLE ARE DRIVING AROUND TOTALLY UNAWARE THAT THEIR TIRES ONLY APPEAR SAFE. UNLESS THE CAR IS PUT ON A LIFT RACK THE WEAR ISSUE IS NOT OBVIOUS TO THE AVERAGE AUTOMOBILE OWNER. *TR
PREVIOUSLY FILED COMPLAINT IN 10/2009 GM OFFERED $1000 VOUCHER FOR THE PROBLEM. TURNED VEHICLE INTO DEALER IN SEPT 2009. TOLD GM THAT I WOULD MAKE PAYMENTS UNTIL JAN 2010 AND TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO MAKING OUR 2008 IMPALA SAFE TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY. THEY REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND THE CAR SAT AT DEALERS UNTIL MAY 2010 WHEN A COLLECTION COMPANY CALLED MY HOME AND I TOLD THEM THE STORY. THEY ASKED WHERE THE CAR WAS AND I TOLD THEM. THEY PUT ME ON HOLD AND CALLED THE DEALER TO CONFIRM. THAT DAY THEY WENT AND PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND STARTED SENDING COLLECTION NOTICES. I TOLD THEM CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THEY SOLD AT AUCTION AND SENT ME TO A COLLECTION AGENCY FOR THE BALANCE OF $9700. THE CAR RESOLD TO AN UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMER IN NH. GM IS STILL TRYING TO COLLECT THE BALANCE AND HAS OFFERED A COMPROMISE $4800. THESE VEHICLES HAVE KILLED UNSUSPECTING CONSUMERS BUT DOCUMENTATION DOES NOT EXIST?? I AM SURE IF A STUDY WAS DONE ON ALL HIGHWAY /ACCIDENTS/DEATHS CONNECTED TO 2007 & 2008 IMPALAS, REAR TIRE WEAR WOULD BE WELL REPRESENTED. GM SHOULD SMELL THE COFFEE AND RECALL THESE DANGEROUS VEHICLES. IT APPEARS TO BE A SPECIFIC FRAME RUN AND NOT EVERY CHEVY AND BUICK FRAME MANUFACTURERS IN THOSE YEARS. ALL POLICE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND RETROFITTED TO CORRECT THE REAR ALIGNMENT ISSUE PLEASE HELP PROTECT AMERICAN CONSUMERS AND FORCE GM TO MAKE THIS PROBLEM RIGHT! *TR
2008 CHEVY IMPALA HAS PREMATURE LOSS OF TREAD ON BOTH REAR TIRES FRONT TIRES DO NOT SHOW ANY NOTICEABLE TREAD WEAR BUT REAR TIRES HAVE LOST ALL OF INBOARD TREAD. THIS IS A DEFECT IN EITHER THE WHEEL MOUNTING OR SUSPENSION SYSTEM CAUSING UNSAFE OPERATION OF THIS VEHICLE. *KB
WE OWN A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA LTZ AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BACK TIRES DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR ITS SCHEDULED 6000 ROTATION ONLY TO DISCOVER THE TIRES WERE SHOT. THE DEALER WOULD NOT HONOR REPLACING THE TIRE AND MENTIONED NO REASONABLE SOLUTION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE CAR THOROUGHLY AND HAVE DISCOVERED DISTURBING FACTS ABOUT THE IMPALAS SPINDLE RODS. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY DOCUMENTED CASES ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE 2007 AND 2008 IMPALAS. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FIND A CLASS ACTION SUIT HAS BEEN FILED AND GM HAS BEEN DRAGGING THEIR FEET. THEY RECALLED POLICE CARS, BUT NOT CARS BELONGING TO CITIZENS. ANY IMPALA THAT IS SHOWING COMMON WEAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. I CAN DEAL WITH A DEFECT, BUT MY FAMILY WAS AT RISK AS WE TRAVELED IN THE CAR TOGETHER 1200 MILES CROSS COUNTRY AND HAD NO IDEA ABOUT THE DEFECT. TIRES SHOULD NOT BE WORN TO THE STEEL AFTER LESS THAN 6000 MILES. GM IS PUTTING PEOPLE AT RISK. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AND MAKE THINGS RIGHT WITH THEIR PATRONS. *KB
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA, AT 23,000 MILES THE TIRES ARE BALD. I ROTATED THEM EVERY 5000 MILES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN LATE 2007. FROM READING THE OTHER FORUMS ON LINE, IT'S NOT THE TIRES. IT'S THE REAR END ALIGNMENT FROM THE FACTORY. THIS TIRES ARE GOING TO COST $1,400.00 TO REPLACE AND I'M BEING TOLD THE NEW ONE'S WILL WEAR OUT JUST AS FAST AS THE OLD ONE'S. I SEE THERE'S A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST GM FOR 2007 & 2008 IMPALA'S. THEY FIXED ALL THE IMPALA COP CARS BUT NOT THE GENERAL PUBLIC! *KB

THE CONTACT STATED THE INNER TREAD ON BOTH REAR TIRES EXHIBITED AN UNEVEN PREMATURE WEAR DUE TO DEFECTIVE SPINDLE RODS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
