WELL STARTED WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THIS STUPID POS. GAS GAGE DIDN'T EVER WORK. I NEVER KNOW !MUCH GAS I'VE GOT. THEN THE ABS LIGHT STARTED COMING ON FLASHING. HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY A MECHANIC BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYWAY TO FIX IT. THE BRAKES THEN STARTED IN ON ME ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BUT THE OTHER CAR DIDN'T REALIZE I HAD NO WAY POSSIBLE TO STOP. THEY JUST QUIT WORKING NO NOTICE. I THEN LOST THE ABILITY TO ROLL DOWN THE BACK WINDOW THEN THE DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE QUIT LOCKING. TO MAKE THINGS BETTER THE PASSENGER FRONT WINDOW QUIT AND LOCK COMPLETELY GONE. CAN'T EVEN UNLOCK IT WITH THE KEY. STEERING THEN STARTED. STARTED HEARING A BIG CLUNK WHEN TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL AND IT STARTED LOCKING UP. NOW IT'S BEEN LESS THAN SIX MONTHS SINCE BUYING THIS CAR AND IT'S IMMOBILE. I HAVE SUNK SO MUCH INTO IT THAT I COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY MY LOT RENT SO IT'S DROVE ME TO BE HOMELESS TRYING TO LIVE OUT OF THIS THING CHEVY WANTS TO CALL A CAR HAD TO GIVE MY PRIDE AND JOY MY TWO CHILDREN TO MY EX HUSBAND. I LOST MY JOB OVER NOT BEING ABLE TO GET TO WORK AND LATE OVER CAR TROUBLE. I'VE ALMOST GAVE UP ON LIFE AND AM CURRENTLY SITTING IN THIS THING AT A WAL-MART WITH NO WAY TO PAY TO GET IT TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT NO WAY TO REPAIR IT NO WAY TO PAY FOR FOOD OR TO REPLACE THIS CAR. IT'S DESTROYED MY LIVELY HOOD AS A WOMAN AND MOTHER TAKING AWAY EVERYTHING I'VE WORKED SO HARD FOR IN LIFE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE, AS THE THEFT DEVICE CAME ON AND BLINKED UP TO 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE BLINKING ENDED AND ALLOWED HIM TO START THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, IT WAS A FACTORY PROBLEM AND THEY HAD NO IDEA, HOW TO FIX IT. *JB UPDATED 10/01/14

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BUT ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER ONE HOUR. THE CONTACT WOULD LEAVE THE ENGINE RUNNING WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE FOR FIVE MINUTES TO ENSURE THE ENGINE WOULD NOT STALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN IT SHUT OFF IN THE ROAD, COULD NOT RESTART IT AT ALL...NO WARNING LIGHTS NO NOTHING, JUST PLAIN SHUT OFF. LUCKILY, NO ACCIDENT WAS INVOLVED AND THEY WERE ABLE TO PUSH IT TO THE GAS STATION WHERE WE HAD IT TOWED AND FIXED......I HAVE THE RECEIPT SHOWING IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT WENT OUT AND CAUSED THE CAR TO STOP. WHEN CONTACTING THE RECALL PEOPLE, THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND THE CAR WAS ALREADY FIXED. THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG....MY CAR IS ON THE RECALL LIST FOR IGNITION SWITCH AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME WITH THIS. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASS LOCK WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 184,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
ANTI-THEFT LOCKED. WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO START. ALLOWED IGNITION TO STAY IN "ON" POSITION AS STATED TO DO, STILL WON'T WORK. TRIED THIS NUMEROUS TIMES. (BATTERY IS FINE-RADIO WORKS, LIGHTS GO ON). CAR KEEPS "DINGING" WHEN DOORS OPENED, HOOD, OR TRUNK. THE LIGHTS KEEP FLASHING ON DASHBOARD. ANTI-THEFT LIGHT KEEPS GOING ON. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. LOSS OF WORK AND IMPORTANT APPOINTMENTS. RESETTING THE LOCK KEY DID NOT WORK. YOU REFUSE TO PUT IN A RECALL, YET THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE ISSUE AND THE CONSUMER HAS TO PAY FOR THE SERVICES. GM WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY OF THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. *TR
PASSLOCK SENSOR THEFT SYSTEM, I BELIEVE THIS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE FOR THE GM COMPANY. AS A OWNER OF THE 1999 CHEVY MALIBU, AND EXPER. THE PROBLEM MANY TIMES. I HAVE REVIEWED MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PART AS IT KEEPS THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING AND IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE. IT IS DANGEROUS AS WELL AS A INCONVENIENCE TO MANY....IT CAN TAKE UP TO TEN MINUTES FOR THE PASSLOCK SENSOR TO RESET IN WHICH CASE PARENTS MAY HAVE TO LEAVE THERE CHILDREN IN THE COLD OR REVERSE IN THE HEAT WHICH COULD BE DANGEROUS TO INFANTS OR TODDLERS.. MANY PEOPLE REPLACE THE PART FOR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND IN RETURN IT DEFECTS AGAIN. IT CAUSES PEOPLE TO BE LATE FOR VERY IMPORTANT APPOINTMENTS SUCH AS DOCTORS VISITS OR EVEN THE CASE OF (WORK). I BELIEVE THE GM COMPANY SHOULD EVALUATE THE PART AND TRY TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. MANY PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT THIS PART IN WHICH IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. AS A OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE I FORESEE A VERY BIG LAWSUIT COMING ABOUT IN RESULT OF INJURY DUE TO THE SENSOR NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT CAUSES MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE OWNER THAN IT DOES WITH THIEVES THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING AGAINST. *TR
THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT COMES ON AND WE HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE CAR STARTS UP. SOMETIMES EVEN LONGER. THIS HAS CAUSED DANGEROUS SITUATION FROM MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WHERE THEY HAVE BOTH BEEN STRANDED AT NIGHT NOT BEING ABLE TO GET THE CAR STARTED. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS ANTI THEFT ISSUE. PLEASE MAKE THIS MANYFACTURER RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE.
I TRY TO START MY 1999 CHEVY MALIBU AND IT WILL NOT START THE SECURITY SYSTEM LIGHT BLINKS THEN ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER I HAVE A CHANCE OF STARTING IT AGAIN. THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM, IN MY 1999 CHEVY MALIBU, FAILS ON A REGULAR BASIS. PROBABLY 1 OUT OF 10 STARTS THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM PREVENTS THE ENGINE FROM STARTING, AND I NEED TO WAIT 10 MINUTES BEFORE I CAN TRY IT AGAIN; OFTEN, THE 2ND TRY ALSO REQUIRES WAITING TEN MINUTES. THIS IS DEEPLY FRUSTRATING ON ITS OWN, BUT IS DANGEROUS WHEN I NEED MY CAR TO START: FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN IT IS LATE AT NIGHT, OR WHEN MY SURROUNDINGS ARE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS, OR WHEN I URGENTLY NEED TO GET SOMEWHERE (HOSPITAL IN AN EMERGENCY!). I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT AFFLICTS MANY OWNERS OF GM CARS WITH THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM INSTALLED. I HAVE HAD THIS 99 MALIBU FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW AND I HAVE ACTUALLY GOT TO DRIVE IT FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS BUT NOW IT WILL NOT CRANK AT ALL BECAUSE OF THE THEFT SYSTEM I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND NOW THE CAR IS DONE IT WILL NOT START AT ALL I AM A SINGLE MOTHER AND I NEED A DEPENDABLE CARE AND IT SURE ISN'T GOING TO BE A CHEVROLET. *TR
ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ON 1999 CHEVY MALIBU HAPPENS ALMOST EVERYTIME I TRY TO START THE CAR. THIS DISABLES THE FUEL FROM ENTERING THE ENGINE AND PREVENTS THE CAR FROM STARTING. THEN I HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES TO TRY TO START IT AGAIN AND SOMETIMES IT STARTS AND SOMETIMES I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 10 MINUTES. YESTERDAY IT HAPPENED WHEN I STOPPED AT A FARMER'S MARKET IN 95 DEGREE WEATHER. I HAD TO WAIT ALMOST AN HOUR IN THE HEAT WITH A FRIEND OF MINE WHO HAS A HEART CONDITION. AFTER TRYING TO START IT EVERY TEN MINUTES FOR AN HOUR IT FINALLY STARTED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. THEY COULD LOOK AT IT BUT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO FIX IT. WHY HASN'T GM RECALLED THIS PRODUCT? I EVEN ASKED THEM TO DISABLE THE SYSTEM AND THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE. THIS IS BECOMING A DANGER BECAUSE I AM A SENIOR CITIZENS AND I NEVER KNOW WHEN I WILL BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE WAITING FOR THIS TO RESET. IF THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS ITS A PROBLEM AND GM KNOWS IT'S A PROBLEM WHY CAN'T THE FIX IT. *TR
