TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MALIBU MAXX. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE TURN SIGNALS MALFUNCTIONED AND WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEWIS CHEVROLET OF GARDEN CITY (1903 US 50 BUS E., GARDEN CITY , KS) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEADLIGHT BULB SOCKETS HAD MELTED AND DAMAGED THE BULBS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BULBS COULD NOT BE SCREWED OUT OF THE LIGHT BULB SOCKETS AND THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT BULB ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TO BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE ASSEMBLIES ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE TURN SIGNAL BULBS FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. UPON INSPECTING THE BULB AND WIRING HARNESS, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE TURN LAMP HOUSING WAS MELTED, WHICH CAUSED THE TURN SIGNAL TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BULB AND HOUSING WERE REPLACED ON THREE OCCASIONS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WHEELERS CHEVROLET GMC (2701 S MAPLE AVE, MARSHFIELD, WI 54449, (715) 502-4130) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL HOUSING AND BULBS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BULBS AND HOUSING WERE BEING REPLACED EVERY TWO MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. *TT *TR
THE AMBER PLASTIC HOUSINGS ENCLOSING THE TURN-SIGNAL/DRL BULBS IN THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE ARE MELTING, APPARENTLY DUE TO THE BULBS GETTING TOO HOT. THE MELTING PLASTIC HAS DRIPPED DOWN ONTO THE BULBS AND THE FUMES FROM THE MELTING PLASTIC HAVE FOGGED UP PART OF THE HEADLIGHT LENS. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW. THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES AND BULBS ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, SO THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN DEFECT. I HAVE READ MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT OTHER 2005 MALIBUS IN VARIOUS INTERNET FORUMS, AND GM IS APPARENTLY NOT WILLING TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM.
THE AMBER PLASTIC HOUSINGS ENCLOSING THE TURN-SIGNAL/DRL BULBS IN THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE ARE MELTING, APPARENTLY DUE TO THE BULBS GETTING TOO HOT. THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS ARE BURNING OUT THE SOCKET AS WELL AS THE LIGHT COVERING. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BULB IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY MONTH.
THE FRONT AND REAR TURN SIGNAL BULBS CONTINUALLY BURN OUT. THEY GET SO HOT THAT BOTH FRONT ORANGE BULB COVERS HAVE HOLES BURNT IN THEM AND THE SOCKET HAS DISCOLORED BECAUSE OF THE HEAT. THIS BEGAN SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2005 BUT DID NOT NOTICE THE HOLES UNTIL RECENTLY.
DRIVER SIDE FRONT TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ARE BURNING OUT IN ONE TO TWO WEEKS EVEN WHEN REPLACED WITH GM PARTS. BOTH REAR TURN SIGNALS LAMPS ARE ALSO BURNING OUT QUICKLY.
PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TURN SIGNAL BULB BURNS OUT FREQUENTLY. IT ALSO WILL WORK ONE DAY AND SUDDENLY STOP WORKING THE NEXT DAY, THEN WORK AGAIN LATER WITHOUT HAVING DONE ANY INTERVENTION AT ALL. IF I WIGGLE THE BULB JUST RIGHT WITHIN THE SOCKET, I CAN GET IT TO WORK. SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS RUNNING INTO A POTHOLE CAN MAKE THE BULB UNIT WORK OR CEASE WORKING. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATED WITHOUT BEING ENGAGED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE YESTERDAY AND UPON INSPECTION LAST NIGHT I REALIZED THAT THE ORANGE PLASTIC DOME THAT FITS OVER THE LAMP FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE BLINKER IS UNATTACHED, WHEN MY FATHER LOOKED FURTHER INTO IT HE BECAME AWARE THAT THE WIRES ARE MELTED AND SO IS THE PART OF THE ORANGE PIECE THAT ATTACHES, UPON FURTHER RESEARCH IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT MANY OWNERS OF THIS MODEL HAVE ENCOUNTERED, IS THERE A RECALL OR SOMETHING ON THIS TO HAVE IT REPLACED? *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHO STATED THAT THE LIGHT FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT ORANGE GLASS IN SIDE OF HEAD LAMP IT HAS A HOLE MELTED THE TOP OF THE ORANGE LENS. HAS A HOLE ON TOP WHAT CAN YOU DO TO FIX THAT PROBLEM, IT'S SEAMS TO BE ONLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR. IT'S ON A 2005 MALIBU MAXX. CAN YOU REPLACE IT UNDER A FACTORY WARRANTY FOR US THANKS. THAT'S HAS TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART ON THEM CARS PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR ME THANKS AGAIN. *TR
WAS TOLD BY A DRIVER WHO HAD BEEN BEHIND ME COMING UP TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. SHE SAID IT LOOKED AS THOUGH THEY WERE ON WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING AND WENT OFF WHEN I WAS STOPPING. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC RESISTOR AND IT HASN'T DONE ANYTHING. I ALSO HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH GETTING THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL REFUSING TO ENGAGE OR DISENGAGING ITSELF. I UNDERSTAND NOW THAT THESE ARE REOCCURRING PROBLEMS FOR THIS CAR AND IT HAS SOMETHING TO WITH TERMINAL FRETTING CORROSION IN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG THE BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEM HAS EXISTED SINCE NO ONE HAS TOLD ME ABOUT IT BEFORE THIS BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTED FUNNY EVEN WHEN I WAS TEST DRIVING THE VEHICLE BEFORE PURCHASE. I MENTIONED IT TO THE SALESPERSON AND HE SAID THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT. IT WORKED THE NEXT TIME I TEST DROVE IT BUT HAS FREQUENTLY NOT WORKED AFTER I ACTUALLY BOUGHT IT. GETTING THE CAR OUT OF PARK HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SINCE I BOUGHT IT.
I CAN'T GO A WEEK WITHOUT BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES BURNING TURN-SIGNAL BULBS. AFTER REPLACING THE BULBS NO MORE THAN A WEEK WILL GO BY AND THE BULB WILL TURN BLACK AND SOMETIMES BLOW UP INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT. RECENTLY THE BULBS ARE NOT BURNING OUT BUT WHAT SEEMS TO BE A BAD CONNECTION TO THE SOCKET, I WILL PRESS THE BULBS INTO THE SOCKET AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES THE TURN-SIGNALS WILL NOT WORK AGAIN. *TR

I HAVE HAD MY CAR SINCE 2009 AND IN 2010 I STARTED HAVE TO CHANGE MY TURN SIGNALS OUT AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH FOR BURNING OUT. THERE ARE TIME THAT THE BULB WILL GET SO HOT THAT IT BLOWS THE INSIDE OF THE BULB UP AND AROUND THE PLUG WHERE THE BULB GOES IN HAS DARK MARKS HAS TO IF THEY ARE BURN MARKS. I CALLED CHEVROLET AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THEM. THE BACK TURN SIGNALS DO THE SAME AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES THAT I WOULD ALMOST GET HIT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND THAT MY CAR IS NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT ALOT OF 2005 MALIBUS ARE. I AM AFRAID AT THIS POINT THAT IT IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE IN MY CAR. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE REALLY GETS HURT. *TR
WHILE TURNING LEFT THE ORANGE GLOBE IN THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY MELTED AND CAUSED LIGHT BULB TO BURN PLASTIC. I CONTACTED THE COMPANY GENERAL MOTORS BEFORE ABOUT THE DISCOLORATION OF MY HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY PRIOR COMPLAINTS. I WORK FOR A PARTS STORE AND I HAD NOTICED ALMOST EVERY (80%) 2005 THAT CAME IN FOR LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT HAS THIS PROBLEM. MY DAUGHTER HAS A MALIBU MAX 2005. SHE HAD TO REPLACE HER ASSEMBLIES WHICH HAD BURNED WORSE, AFTER SHE WENT TO LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM. SHE PURCHASED AFTER MARKET LIGHTS AT ABOUT $65 EACH VERSUS THEIR $165 PRICE NOT COUNTING LABOR THEY WOULD OF CHARGED. IT'S VIN #[XXX]. GM HAS A PROBLEM AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT.
