Major fuel leak from fuel pump from gas tank area. This occured while driving. Car needed to be towed for repair. Required replacement of electric fuel pump inside the gas tank.
FUEL PUMP PRESSURE SENSOR NOT WORKING VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE
I FILLED MY GAS TANK AND WHEN I STARTED MY CAR, THE FUEL LIGHT LEVEL WENT FROM FULL TO EMPTY WITH THE WARNING LIGHT "LOW FUEL" LIT UP. THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER ABOUT 3 TO 4 TIMES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMED TO GO BACK TO NORMAL, THAT IS UNTIL THE NEXT TIME AND THE NEXT TIME AND SO ON THAT I FILLED MY GAS TANK. IT IS CURRENTLY DOING THE SAME THING. I DO NOT EVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IN THE CAR BECAUSE THE NEEDLE GOES UP AND DOWN CONSTANTLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT DISPLAYING THE ACCURATE INFORMATION, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF FUEL WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, THE ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION AND THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE DTC INDICATED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN FOR AN APPOINTMENT AT NUCAR CHEVROLET (174 N DUPONT HWY, NEW CASTLE, DE 19720, (888) 626-3594). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WITHIN ONE MINUTE AFTER ENGINE STARTUP, AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO ZERO WITH ATTENDANT ALARM. IT DOES NOT REGISTER GAS UNTIL ABOUT 30 MILES OF DRIVING BEFORE GAS GAUGE SLOWLY RESETS ITSELF. THE FUEL CAP WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW UNIT BUT IT STILL HAS SAME RESULTS. IF THE TANK IS NOT REFILLED TO TOP AT GAS STATION BUT ONLY PARTIAL REFILL, THEN THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE PROBLEM LIGHT COMES ON UPON FULL FUEL REFILL AFTER ABOVE OUTLINED PROBLEM AND DOES NOT RESET UNTIL ABOUT 70 MILES RUN ON AUTO. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON AUTOS I HAVE OWNED OR CONSULTING WITH OTHERS WITH MORE THAN 45 YEARS OF DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. AFTER THE CONTACT FILLED UP THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL, THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED EMPTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW FUEL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED LOW FUEL AFTER A FILL UP OR RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND TO SUPERIOR CHEVROLET (4770 COVINGTON HWY, DECATUR, GA 30035 (404) 857-2830) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE MALFUNCTION. THE SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY CAR DOES NOT REGISTER GAS PROPERLY. THE GAS HAND IS IRRATIC AND CONTINUOUSLY FLUCIATES FROM FULL TO EMPTY REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF GAS. BECAUSE OF THE UNRELIABILITY OF THE GAS HAND, I RAN OUT OF GAS ON THEINTERSTATE! NO FURTHER EXPLANATION OF THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION SHOULD BE NEEDED. AT TIMES THE CAR FAILS TO START AND IDLE PROPERLY. BOTH ISSUES ARE DUE TO A MALFUNCTION IN THE FUEL CIRCUIT SENSOR LOCATED INSIDE THE GAS TANK. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. IT IS AN EXPENSIVE FIX DUE TO LOCATION OF THE SENSOR. PLEASE RECALL.
FILLED MY CAR AND MY GAUGE SAYS I AM LOW ON GAS. I STOP TURN OFF CAR AND RESTART IT'S OK FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES. AND IT DOES IT AGAIN AND NOW REMAINS ON FULL ## VIN PASSED ## AMERICAN CHEVROLET MALIBU 2006 ##

I RECEIVED THIS CAR FROM MY DAD IN JANUARY OF 2014. HE WARNED ME THAT IF YOU FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY THAT THE GAS LEVEL WILL DROP FROM FULL TO EMPTY. HE SAID IT HAPPENED TO HIM AND HE HAD TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT BACK ON AND PRESS ENTER TO FIX IT. I NEVER FILLED THE CAR ALL THE WAY UP OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST YEAR UNTIL ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO (JANUARY 2015). AFTER DOING SO, THE TANK WOULD READ FULL AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES WOULD DROP DOWN TO EMPTY. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS, THE GAS LEVEL WILL READ EITHER FULL OR EMPTY, NO IN BETWEEN, NO MATTER HOW MUCH GAS I PUT IN IT. I SEE THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE, AND I AGREE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS MATTER. WE SHOULD NOT TO HAVE PAY FOR AN OBVIOUS AND REPEATED ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY GAS TANK THE FUEL GAGE DROPS DOWN TO EMPTY AND THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO TURN OFF NO MATTER WHAT SPEED I AM GOING IT DOES THIS. THIS IS VERY SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS AND I'M DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:11E009000 (FUEL SYSTEM AND GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I FILLED MY TANK UP WITH GAS AND AFTER DRIVING A FEW FEET THE GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. THE GAUGE WENT BACK UP TO FULL, BUT AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN A MILE IT WENT TO EMPTY AGAIN. I STOPPED THE CAR AFTER REACHING MY DESTINATION AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW HOURS. I THEN RECHECKED THAT THE GAS CAP WAS ON TIGHTLY. IT SEEMED FINE AND THE GAUGE WAS REMAINING AT FULL. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS OF DRIVING THE GAUGE IS STILL READING COMPLETELY FULL AND THE OPTION THAT TELLS ME HOW MANY MILES I HAVE LEFT REMAINS AT 295. AT THIS POINT, I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE VEHICLE. I AM FORCED TO STOP AND FILL THE TANK EVERY FEW DAYS SO THAT I DO NOT RUN OUT OF GAS. *TR
I FINANCED THIS VEHICLE IN MAY 2011 AND THREE MONTHS AFTER HAVING THIS VEHICLE THE FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TRYING TO BRING GROCERIES HOME OR COMING FROM WORK. ITS DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T HAVE CONSIDERATIONS FOR OTHERS. LUCKY FOR ME I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HOWEVER, ITS NOT ALWAYS SAFE. IT IS GOING TO COST ME A GOOD BIT TO EVEN THINK ABOUT HAVING THIS FIXED. I STILL OWE A LITTLE OVER 8K ON THIS CAR AND I BOUGHT IT USED. I HAVE BEEN THINKING OF TRADING IT AND HAVING WHAT I OWE TACKED ON TO THE END OF THE NOTE JUST TO KNOW THAT I WILL BE SAFE AS WELL AS MY CHILDREN AND NOT WORRY ABOUT WHETHER I HAVE ENOUGH FUEL OR NOT. ON TOP OF THAT MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN DOING MY OIL CHANGES AND SAYS THAT THERE IS OIL ALL OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR AND THE OIL HAS A RED TINT. I WOULD THINK AFTER EVERYTHING I HAVE BEEN THROUGH TO EVEN END UP WITH THIS VEHICLE I WOULD NOT HAVE ENCOUNTERED ALL THESE PROBLEMS. I KNOW SOME MALIBU'S HAVE BEEN RECALLED ON PARTS AND EVERYTHING SO I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW I COULD FIND OUT IF THERE ARE ANY THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED ON THIS VEHICLE. I LOVE THIS CAR BUT NEED RELIABILITY TO GET TO WORK AND HOME, TAKING KIDS TO SCHOOL AND HELPING MY PARENTS WHEN THEY NEED TO GO TO DR APPOINTMENTS THEY ARE BOTH IN REMISSION OF CANCER SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS SAFE. *TR
FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY, NEVER GIVING AN ACCURATE READING. THE FLUCTUATION OCCURS MORE RAPIDLY AFTER FILLING THE TANK. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. WHEN THE LIGHT IS RESET, IT IMMEDIATELY COMES BACK ON. I PULLED IN GAS STATION SHUT CAR OFF, ATTENDANT FILLED TANK, WHEN HE WAS DONE I PAID AND STARTED CAR, CAR DINGED A LOT AND GAS GAUGE REGISTERED EMPTY, AND MESSAGE ON SCREEN SAID LOW FUEL, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. LONG STORY SHORT IF YOU BOUNCE CAR GAUGE COMES BACK UP TO FULL, THEN DROPS BACK DOWN UNTIL YOU DO THIS A COUPLE TIMES, THEN RUNS OK. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE GAUGE EVEN MALFUNCTIONED WHILE IN THE PARK POSITION. A WEEK AFTER THE FAILURE STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PERSONAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO DROP THE ENTIRE GAS TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,900.
