My vehicle has recently displayed a message telling me to “Shift to Park,” even though the vehicle is in park. On 10/06/2021, twice it took 15 times shifting to get the car to go into park. Now, it does it every time I put the car into park. Have an appointment to take it to Jim McKay chevy in Fairfax on Tuesday.
Shift to park. I am able to shift to park but then sometimes when I turn off my car, I receive a notification stating that my car is not in park. Most of the time i either have to jiggle the shift gear, turn off and on my car in order for the notification to go away.
2017 CHEVY MALIBU SHIFT TO PARK NOTIFICATION MESSAGE COMES ON AFTER CAR IS IN PARK AND TURNED OFF. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE IN THIS VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE HAS 33, 304 MILES AND IS A NEW USED PURCHASE. ISSUE BEGAN 4 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE AND SEEMS TO BE ONGOING ISSUE WITH GM MOTORS HOWEVER NO RECALL.
WHILE PARKING, A "PARK TO SHIFT" WARNING COMES ON AND WILL NOT TURN OFF UNLESS I JIGGLE THE SHIFTER OR SHIFT THROUGH SEVERAL TIMES. LIGHTS AND RADIO WILL NOT TURN OFF UNTIL WARNING GOES AWAY.
SHIFT TO PARK SHOWN AFTER CAR IS IN PARK. I HAD THIS HAPPEN 3 TO FOR TIMES A WEEK, AND I WOULD HAVE TO RESTART CAR TAKE OUT OF PARK AND PUT IT INTO PARK SEVERAL TIMES TILL THE MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD WOULD GO AWAY.. I HAD TO REPLACE SL-N-CONTOL AND N-HARNESS.CAR ONLY HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT.
When shifting the car into park the vehicle fails to detect when the gear selector has been shifted into Park. I am not able to shut off the vehicle. This is endangering my safety by having to spend extra time maneuvering the shifter in order to be able to turn the car off. I am an elderly female and if I have to spend extra time in my vehicle I am scared someone may take advantage of the situation and harm me. I had the same problem in 2019, brought the vehicle in with 9008 miles on it for repair. The dealer fixed the issue, though apparently only temporarily by removing and replacing the transmission control shifter assembly. The problem reappeared about 2 weeks ago. My vehicle now has just over 13,000 miles There were no warnings before this started happening again.
WHEN I SHIFT MY CAR TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION, I RECEIVE A MESSAGE STATING "SHIFT TO PARK". IT KEEPS MY CAR IN THE ACCESSORY START POSITION THEREBY RUNNING THE BATTERY DOWN IF I CANNOT GET IT TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT, ONGOING PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL GM DEALER ABOUT THIS BUT THERE IS NO RECALL.
DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND CAR STATES REDUCED POWER MODE. I COULD ONLY GO 20 MPH AND TRY TO CROSS 4 LANES OF A HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. I ALMOST KILLED SEVERAL PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF. I HAVE READ THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE AND I WANT IT FIXED.
SHIFT TO PARK ERROR MESSAGE. CANT TURN OFF CAR. SHIFTER IS IN PARK BUT SHIFT TO PARK ERROR MESSAGE. NOT SURE IF CAR IS FULLY IN PARK. GOT REPAIRED TWICE BUT CAR DEALERSHIP SAID TEMPORARY FIX, THIS WILL KEEP HAPPENING. *TR
WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, IF I TURN OFF MY ENGINE AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF SITTING IN PARK, SOMETIMES MY CAR DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK. MY CAR WILL TELL ME TO PUT IT IN PARK BEFORE I'M ABLE TO TURN OFF MY CAR. SOMETIMES I JUST HAVE TO STEP ON MY BREAK AGAIN, AND IT WILL RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO TURN MY ENGINE BACK ON AND WAIT A MINUTE OR TWO. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE AGAIN BEFORE PUTTING IT IN PARK, WAITING A COUPLE MINUTES, AND THEN IT FINALLY RECOGNIZES IT'S IN PARK. I HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT WHAT WORKS BEST, EXCEPT FOR JUST WAITING A LITTLE BIT BEFORE TRYING TO TURN OFF MY ENGINE. IF I CAN'T GET MY CAR TO RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK, I CAN'T LEAVE MY CAR BECAUSE THE BATTERY WILL NOT TURN OFF UNTIL IT RECOGNIZES IT'S IN PARK. IT CAN BE VERY FRUSTRATING. WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT CHEVY, I MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM TO CHEVY, THINKING MAYBE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE. THEY SAID THEY'VE HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, AND SAID THEY COULD FIX IT. WHEN I CAME BACK FOR MY NEXT OIL CHANGE, I AGAIN NEEDED TO MENTION THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY FOR A LITTLE BUT COMES BACK. AGAIN, THEY SAID THEY COULD FIX IT, BUT IT STILL HAPPENS. THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, IT'S HAPPENING TO MULTIPLE CHEVY CUSTOMERS, BUT NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS OR HOW TO FIX IT.
I JUST SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS ISSUE, IT HAS HAPPENED MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT SO I'M SUBMITTING AGAIN. I HAVE TOLD PEOPLE AT CHEVY ABOUT THIS PROBLEM TWICE, WHEN I WENT IN FOR OIL CHANGES/MAINTENANCE. I HAVE ONLY GONE TO CHEVY FOR ANY TYPE OF MAINTENANCE BECAUSE I WANT MY CAR TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BY PEOPLE THAT SHOULD KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. THAT'S WHY I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT I HAVE PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW, TAKEN THE BEST CARE OF IT, ONLY TAKEN IT TO CHEVY EVEN THOUGH IT'S OBVIOUSLY MORE EXPENSIVE, BUT STILL NO ONE HAS HELPED ME WITH THIS PROBLEM OR EXPLAINED WHY IT'S HAPPENING. IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE I'VE REPORTED THE PROBLEM, AND NOW I'M WORRIED I MAY HAVE TOO MANY MILES FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, IT DOESN'T ALWAYS RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK. THIS MEANS THAT MY CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF, AND I CAN'T LEAVE MY CAR UNTIL IT RECOGNIZES IT'S IN PARK. I'VE FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALMOST ALWAYS HAPPEN IF I TRY TO TURN OFF MY CAR ENGINE "TOO SOON". I HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT A MINUTE BEFORE I CAN TURN OFF MY ENGINE, OR I RISK MY CAR NOT RECOGNIZING IT'S IN PARK. IF THIS HAPPENS, SOMETIMES I ONLY HAVE TO PRESS ON MY BREAK. OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO TURN THE ENGINE BACK ON, DRIVE, AND WAIT BEFORE TRYING TO TURN MY ENGINE OFF AGAIN. THIS CAN TAKE MULTIPLE TRIES, MULTIPLE MINUTES WORTH OF JUST TRYING TO PARK MY CAR AND TURN IT OFF. I DO COMMUTE ABOUT 70 MILES ROUND TRIP FOR WORK EACH DAY (MONDAY-FRIDAY), SO I USE MY CAR QUITE A BIT, BUT LIKE I MENTIONED I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND TAKE THE BEST CARE OF IT. I DO NOT CUT ANY CORNERS BECAUSE I DO DRIVE IT A LOT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, HAD A TICKET, I DRIVE VERY SAFELY. THERE IS NO REASON, MY CAR SHOULD HAVE ANY PROBLEMS SIMPLY PARKING AFTER HAVING IT FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS.
WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF I AM GETTING A MESSAGE THAT SAYS SHIFT TO PARK. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE.
SOMETIMES WHEN I PARK, EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE IS CLEARLY IN PARK, I RECEIVE A MESSAGE ON THE DASH THAT I NEED TO "SHIFT TO PARK". THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MANY GM VEHICLES AND IF YOU LEAVE THE CAR LIKE THIS, IT WILL DRAIN YOUR BATTERY. I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND BACK IN TO GET THE MESSAGE TO GO AWAY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO WHEN THIS STOPS WORKING. THE DATE OF "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?" IS THE MOST RECENT, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES.
ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED APPEARS ON INFO DASH WORD AND CAR SLOWS DOWN TO SLOW SPEED WHILE ON HIGHWAY
I WAS DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS WHEN ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED LIGHT CAME ON AND CARS MAX SPEED TOPPED OUT AT 20-25 MPH. STARTED THE CAR AN HOUR LATER AND EVERYTHING WENT OFF. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. A MONTH LATER SAME EXACT ISSUE. THIS TIME I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY AT 30MPH WHEN ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND SPEED WAS AFFECTED AGAIN. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS REMAINING ON.
WHEN SHIFT CAR INTO PARK AND GO TO TURN CAR OFF A MESSAGE POPS UP THAT CAR NEEDS TO BE IN PARK EVEN THOUGH IT SHOWS IT IS IN PARK. DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT HAPPENS AND YOU HAVE TO TURN CAR ON AND OFF AND SHIFT A FEW TIMES BEFORE IT WILL RECOGNIZE IT IS IN PARK.
A DASHBOARD NOTICE TO 'SHIFT TO PARK' POPS UP AFTER PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN IT OFF. THE CAR DOES NOT REGISTER THAT THE CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN STOPPED AND SWITCHED TO PARK.
VEHICLE STUCK IN REVERSE SHIFT LOCK HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE AND WAS REPLACED BY THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP. REPLACED SHIFTER DUE TO STUCK LOCK. PULLED UP TO CAR WASH PUT CAR IN REVERSE SHIFTER LOCKED AND WAS UNABLE TO MOVE OUT OF REVERSE. TOLL TRUCK CAME AND DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY MOVE CABLE UNDER THE HOOD SO I COULD PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET GOING 35MPH WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A NOTIFICATION CAME ON MY DASHBOARD SAYING "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED". THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT FROM 35MPH TO 20MPH; I'M LUCKY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR 8 DAYS AGO AT 35,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE ACCELERATION PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. THE CAR IS LESS THAN 36,000 MILES NOW.
WHEN IT RAINS, THE FLOOR MATS GET WET UNDER THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME IT RAINS; THEY FIXED THE ISSUE WITH THE RAIN LEAKING IN THE TRUNK BUT NOT WITH THE RAIN LEAKING INSIDE THE CAR.

YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING AND PULLED UP TO A RED LIGHT. THE CAR SHUT UP AS NORMAL FOR THE ENERGY SAVER FEATURE, BUT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CARE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONTO THE SCREEN. I WAITED 2 MINUTES, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT. THE RADIO'S SOUND STOPPED WORKING AFTER THAT. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN, BUT NO SOUND WAS COMING OUT, EVEN WHEN I PUSHED THE ON-STAR BUTTON. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR 10 MINUTES AND BACK ON AND THE RADIO WORKED AGAIN LIKE NORMAL.
THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT LEAKS WATER AND HAS BEEN LEAKING WATER EVIDENT BY WATER MARKS ON THE VEHICLES HEAD LINER
