TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 800 (1500). WHILE THE CONTACT WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES SEIZED ABRUPTLY AND THE VEHICLE ALMOST STRUCK A TREE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT REMEMBER BEING NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO THE SYMPTOMS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND A CASE NUMBER WAS PROVIDED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. JEFF BARNES CHEVROLET (6110 SYKESVILLE RD, ELDERSBURG, MD 21784, (410) 970-6363) MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL REPAIR PROMPTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED THROUGH. FIRST THE REAR BRAKE LINE BURST. A FEW MONTHS LATER A FRONT LINE BURST. BOTH TIMES VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.
BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND BROKE. THIS CAUSED A LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY AND A NEAR ACCIDENT. BRAKE LINE MATERIALS USED WERE INFERIOR AND THIS PRESENTS A SAFETY RISK FOR ALL OWNERS. GM SHOULD REPLACE ALL REGISTERED VEHICLES WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILURE EMPLOYS WHEN NOT NEEDED AND AT LOW SPEEDS IN MOTION .VERY DANGEROUS !!! !!!
METALLIC BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES.FORTUNATELY I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY GETTING READY TO LEAVE & HEARD A SLIGHT POPPING NOISE & LOST ABILITY TO STOP. GOT OUT & BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER DRIVEWAY..UNABLE TO ADD PHOTOS,TRUCK WAS TOWED TO SERVICE STATION IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS
BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT CAUSING ME TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT IN MOTION
HAD TO HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. THE LINES BURST DUE TO THEM ALL BEING RUSTED OUT AND CORRODED. I HAVE A 1994 TOYOTA PICK UP TRUCK WITH MORE MILES THAN MY 1999 CHEVY SILVERADO AND THE BRAKE LINES ARE NOT RUSTED OR CORRODED GO FIGURE! I WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND SAW A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDERNEATH THE DRIVERS DOOR AND GAS TANK. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED FOR $1066.33. I WAS CHARGE FOR 8 HOURS OF LABOR. I AM PISSED OFF AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET VEHICLE, BECAUSE OF THEIR USE OF SUBSTANDARD MATERIAL ON THE MOST IMPORTANT PART (BRAKES) OF THEIR VEHICLES AND THEIR FAILING TO ACKNOWLEDGE & CORRECT THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THESE MODEL YEAR TRUCKS WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION, INSTEAD THEY MADE BOGUS EXCUSES AS TO WHY THESE BRAKE LINES WERE FAILING! I HAVE PURCHASE NINE CHEVROLET VEHICLES IN MY LIFE AND LIKE I STATED EARLIER I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET AGAIN AND WILL DISCOURAGE EVERYONE I KNOW THAT IS IN THE MARKET TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE TO NOT BUY A CHEVROLET BECAUSE, THE WAY CHEVROLET FAILED TO RESOLVE THE BRAKE LINE PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS IS UNACCEPTABLE!
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. STEEL LINES RUSTED AND BURST. ON SIDE STREET, SLOWING DOWN TO STOP BEFORE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY ON DOWN HILL LOCATION. STEPPED ON BRAKES, LINE FAILED, JUST MISSED REAR ENDING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IN REVERSE AND GET STOPPED BEFORE ENTERING HIGHWAY.
ABS SYSTEM CONTINUOSLY GOES OUT.
ABS ACTIVATES WITHOUT ANY REASON ON DRY PAVEMENT DURING LOW SPEED BRAKING. BRAKES WILL NOT WORK, THEN. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT! TRUCK IS TECHNICALLY IN BEST CONDITION, HAS ONLY 40000 MILES!
1. ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN WHEELS ARE NOT SLIPPING. WHEN SLOWING THE TRUCK DOWN THE VEHICLE ABS ACTIVATES PREVENTING THE VEHICLE FROM STOPPING UNLESS YOU EITHER RELEASE AND REAPPLY THE BRAKE OR COLLIDE WITH THE OBJECT IN FRONT OF YOU. 2. BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY PULLING A 4,000 POUND TRAILER THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR CAUSING A LOSS OF BRAKES. I HAD THOUGHT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS CROSSED TYPE SYSTEM AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE HAD BRAKE PRESSURE ON THE REMAINING INTACT LINES BUT THE PEDAL WAS SO SOFT I DON'T BELIEVE THERE WERE ANY BRAKES. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM UNDER EMERGENCY FAILURE.
WHILE TOWING A HEAVY TRAILER AT 30 MPH, I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. WITH NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKING WHATEVER. I STOMPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A HARD RIGHT TURN TO AVOID A COLLISION AND COASTED TO A STOP. LOOKING DOWN, THERE WAS A TRAIL OF BRAKE FLUID LEADING TO A LARGE PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVER'S DOOR. LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK REVEALED THAT INCREDIBLY RUSTED BRAKES LINES HAD BURST, DRAINING THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE FLUID RESERVOIR. CLOSER INSPECTION SHOWED THAT EVERY FOOT OF BRAKE LINE UNDER THE TRUCK WAS IN SIMILAR CONDITION! AFTER TOWING IT HOME, I DISCOVER WHY THE E-BRAKE FAILED; THE CABLE WAS RUSTED SOLID. I HAD TO ORDER A COMPLETE BRAKE LINE KIT AND SPENT THE ENTIRE WEEKEND REPLACING THEM. IT WAS THEN THAT I FOUND OUT THAT THOUSANDS OF OWNERS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING GM TO MAKE GOOD ON THIS DEFECT. WE NARROWLY ESCAPED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND SPENT A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME AND MONEY, BESIDES HAVING TO BORROW A VEHICLE TO GET TO WORK FOR A WEEK.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A 2 LANE ROAD ROAD AND A CAR SLOWED IN FRONT OF ME. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID THE CAR BY GOING TO THE SHOULDER AND THEN TURING ON TO A SIDE STREET. ONCE STOPED I EXITED THE TRUCK AND SAW BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM BELOW THE DRIVERS DOOR. THIS EXACT PROBLEM HAPPENED TO MY GRANDFATHERS 2001 SILVERADO NOT MORE THAT 3 MONTHS AGO.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V37900 (SERVICE BRAKES). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I WAS BACK OUT OF DRIVEWAY THEN MY FOOT TO FLOOR .L LOST BRAKE PSI .I AM LUCKY THAT STEEL LINE BROKE IN THE DRIVEWAY AN ON ROAD OR THE HIGHWAY . I KEPT CLEAN AFTER EVERY SNOW I CLEAN BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO OPERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 194,000.
PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY AT MY BROTHER'S HOUSE AND BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING MY TO ON THIS DOWNHILL GRADE RUN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AT HIS HOUSE. DAMAGED THE BUMPER AND GRILL ON MY TRUCK AND HIS BUMPER AND HOOD OF HIS CAR IN AN OLDS ALERO. REPLACING ALL BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL AND NOT REPAIRING THE DAMAGED PARTS DUE TO GM BEING CHEAP ON SUCH A VITAL PART.
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKING ACTION BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVE (THANKFULLY NOT DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY). BRAKE LINES BENEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WERE RUSTED AND LEAKING FLUID. GM PARTS PERSON SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT THEY SELL A BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT SET BUT HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND DID NOT COVER THE COST OF PARTS OR LABOR (WHY?).
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND PULLED INTO OUR DRIVE. SHE STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. FOUND BRAKE LINE FAILURE UNDER CAB LEAKING BRAKE FLUID.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPEED SENSOR AND ALL WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 207,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE LINES PREMATURELY FRACTURED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES TWICE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC A THIRD TIME FOR INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
NO DAMAGE. THE ABS CONTROL SYSTEM FAILED. WARNING LIGHT ON DASH. THIS HAPPENED TWICE ON MY TRUCK. SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PART.
THIS TRUCK WAS DRIVEN IN MINNESOTA SINCE 1999. ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON THIS TRUCK DUE TO CORROSION. I DROVE THE TRUCK ON A FOUR LINE ROAD. THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED TO YELLOW AND I TRIED TO STOP BUT THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR.THIS TRUCK HAD SUCH BAD BRAKE LINES THAT WHEN BLEEDING THE BRAKE LINES FOR THE FRONT LINE ANOTHER LEAK STARTED OUT ONE OF THE REAR LINES. THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY CONCERN FOR OWNERS OF A CHEVROLET SILVERADO.
1ST TIME WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE BROKE JUST IN FRONT OF THE WHEEL,(REPLACED LINE) 2ND TIME ON THE ROAD DRIVING @ 60MPH AND GO TO STOP AND PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR, LUCKILY II GOT INTO A CORN FIELD BEFORE ANYONE WAS HURT!! FRONT LINE BROKE AT FRAME JUST FORWARD OF THE MASTER CYLINDER, WHO EVER HEARD OF THE MAIN SAFETY FIGURE OF YOUR VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE STAINLESS STEEL!! WHO IN THE WORLD ARE WATCHING OVER THESE MANUFACTURERS!

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE BRAKING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
