Bcm causing electrical problems with instrument cluster causing battery to go flat ... bcm not letting cluster goto sleep causing a battery drain around .5amps... all the gauges will drop below zero and bounce right back to zero in 30 seconds to a minute.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, when an unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact called an independent mechanic who informed the wiring harness was melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V407000 (Electrical System), however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000.
ENGINE DOESN'T START. RARE AND INTERMITTENT. NO CLICKS OR ATTEMPT TO START, LIGHTS ARE ON AND GO OFF WHEN KEY TURNED TO START. NOTHING APPEARS TO HELP IE MOVING DRIVE SELECTOR, ENGAGING/RELEASING E-BRAKE, STEPPING ON BRAKE PEDAL, OPENING/CLOSING HOOD ETC WAIT SOME UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME, MORE THAN 10 MINUTES AND IT STARTS AS THOUGH NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. I'VE LOOKED INTO IT ONLINE ENOUGH TO KNOW OTHERS HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS BUT HAVEN'T FOUND A SOLUTION. MAYBE NOT BE AS SAFETY RELATED AS IS NEEDED BUT I CAN THINK OF A FEW SCENARIOS THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS. THANKS

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN THE CODES WERE RAN TWO CODES POPPED UP, P2534 (IGNITION 1 SWITCH CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE 2. IGNITION ON/START SWITCH LOW VOLTAGE.) AND CODE P069E FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE REQUESTED MIL ILLUMINATION. WHEN I HAD THE DEALER CHECK THIS THEY SAID THAT THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE VIN NUMBER OF MY VEHICLE DID NOT MATCH THAT OF THE RECALL THAT IS CURRENTLY IN PLACE (BULLETIN NO. 14515B FROM JANUARY 2015).
WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE DOOR LOCKS WILL SUDDENLY GO ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND THE TRUCK LOSES POWER TRANSMISSION SHIFTS OUT OF GEAR SEAT BELT LIGHT COMES ON INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDLES GO ERRATIC. DEALERS SAY IF WE CAN'T MAKE IT DO IT WHEN WE'RE THERE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX NEED HELP SOON.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE ENGAGED AND DISENGAGED, THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKERED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED, THE SPEEDOMETER DID NOT REGISTER THE CORRECT SPEED, THE ABS DID NOT FULLY DISENGAGE, AND THE TRANSMISSION INDICATOR INDEPENDENTLY WOULD INDICATE PARK WHILE IN DRIVE. ALSO, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS WERE UNKNOWN. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE REPAIR DUE TO IT BEING AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
SAFETY BULLETING 14515 ' CHASSIS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE INTERNAL CONTAMINATION ' 2007-2014. MY 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 IS HAVING A PROBLEM THAT THE ELECTRIC GOES OFF AND ON WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER HITTING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL OF THE TIME. IT SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS, SOMETIMES WHEN IT HAPPENS THE DOOR LOCKS GO UP AND DOWN. I TALKED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER IN TEMPE, FREEWAY CHEVROLET, AND THEY STATED MY TRUCK WAS NOT PART OF THE SAFETY RECALL BULLETIN 14515 EVEN THOUGH OTHER 2009 CHEVROLETR SILVERADO 1500S WERE PART OF THE RECALL. I WOULD THINK THAT CHEVROLET WOULD BE GLAD TO FIX IT BEFORE A CRASH, SORT OF LIKE TOYOTA SHOULD OF FIXED THEIR BRAKING AND ACCELERATION PROBLEM BEFORE SO MANY CRASHES. IS IT TRUE THAT EVEN IF THE TRUCK IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL, WHICH IS A SAFETY RECALL, IT MAY NOT BE COVERED FOR IT IS NOT LISTED?

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
AFTER PARKING MY TRUCK IN DRIVEWAY. I CAME OUT THE NEXT MORNING TO FIND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS UP AND THE TRUCK DEAD. THE ONLY LIGHT THAT WOULD COME ON WAS THE ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, THE FUSE BOX HAD MELTED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I DO NOT SEE A RECALL ON GENERAL MOTORS WEBSITE.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FUSE BLOCK TWICE IN THIS TRUCK THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS 04/04/2016 THE FIRST COST WAS 600.00 AND THE MOST RECENT COST WAS 474.90

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING CHIMED BEFORE THE POWER DOORS LOCKED AND UNLOCKED INDEPENDENTLY, THE GAUGES FLUCTUATED AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
LOCKS STARTED LOCKING/UNLOCKING. GEAR INDICATOR WAS GOING FROM DRIVE TO PARK. HEAT CAME ON BY ITSELF AND FAN WENT FROM HIGH TO LOW. SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 70MPH TO 55 MPH WITH LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. HEADLIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF. AFTER PULLING OFF I-75 AND GETTING TO A SAFE STOPPING AREA THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FELT EXTREMELY HOT: ESPECIALLY THE BATTERY. AFTER 10 MINUTES, THE TRUCK WAS ABLE TO START AND CONTINUE THE REST OF THE TRIP. AFTER DOING SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON VARIOUS CHEVY FORUMS AND CAR MESSAGE BOARDS. REPLACING THE MEGA FUSE AND BATTERY CABLES APPEARS TO SOLVE THE MAJORITY OF THE ISSUES AS IT DID IN MY CASE. THE DEFECTIVE MEGA FUSE AND BATTERY CABLES CAUSED THE EXCESSIVE VOLTAGE THROUGH THE CABLES, CAUSING EXTREME HEAT WHICH RESULTED IN SCORCH MARKS ON THE TERMINAL ENDS OF THE BATTERY CABLES AND THE INSULATION OF THE CABLES CHANGING COLOR AS WELL AS THE ABOVE ISSUES. I AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT AN ELECTRICAL FIRE DIDN'T HAPPEN WHICH I BELIEVE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN THE CASE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND USED MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL ALL OF THE LIGHTS IS THE TRUCK STARTED FLASHING AND THE DOORS UNLOCKED AND LOCKED THEM SELVES. THEN TWO MILES LATER STILL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC I FLASHED MY LIGHTS AT A TRUCK TO LET HIM KNOW HE COULD SAFELY ENTER MY LANE AT WHICH POINT THE TRUCK CUT COMPLETELY OFF GOING 35 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND I AM LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS FOLLOWING TO CLOSE. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN JANUARY 2014 WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH THE DOOR LOCKS STARTED TO CYCLE RAPIDLY, THE GAUGES ALL WENT TO ZERO, THE AIRBAG REDINESS LIGHT CAME ON AND A SERVICE STABILITRAC MESSAGE APPEARED. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, AFTER MOVING THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL COVER TO TRY AND JUMP THE BATTERY ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTED WITHOUT NEEDING TO BE JUMPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. NO CODES WERE STORED. THEY INSPECTED THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BLOCK AND THE BATTERY PIN TENSION, BOTH WERE GOOD. THE VEHICLE HAS RUN FINE WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTIL NOVEMBER 2014, NOW IT HAS STARTED DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS IT WAS DOING IN JANUARY. I WILL BE CONTACTING MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THE CHEVROLET REGIONAL MANAGER AGAIN. ALSO IT SEEMS VERY UNUSUAL THAT THE DEALER AND THE REGIONAL MANAGER HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THE CHEVROLET FORUMS ARE FULL OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, ALSO THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. *TR
KEY COMES OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE TRUCK IS RUNNING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED UPON WALKING TO THE VEHICLE, THE CENTER HIGH MOUNT STOP LAMPS ILLUMINATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT THEN TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BLOCK HAD SHORTED OUT AND TWO WIRING CONNECTORS FOR THE WIRING HARNESS HAD BURNED INSIDE THE BLOCK. AS A RESULT, THE FUSE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,300.
AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALLS ON CHEVROLET CARS ABOUT THE IGNITION I HAD TO TELL YOU THAT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK. THERE WAS A SUDDEN JARRING & THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN & WOULD NOT START BACK UP. *TR
USED THE TRUCK AND PARKED THE TRUCK WITH NO PROBLEMS. THEN THE TRUCK SAT FOR 1DAY AND HAD HEAVY RAIN STORMS COME THROUGH THE AREA. THEN WENT TO USE THE TRUCK AND WHEN I WENT TO START IT UP THE TRUCK WOULD NOT TURN OVER DEAD AND HAD A STRONG SMELL PLASTIC BURNING WITH THE CARGO LIGHT STAYING ON .CHECK THE CIRCUIT BOARD UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT SOME OF THE FUSES HAD MELTED .NO OTHER PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK UNTIL NOW. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ALONG HIGHWAY I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WAS ON ZERO. UPON FARTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND ALL INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WERE OFF AND DIRECTIONAL AND HAZARD FLASHERS WOULD NOT OPERATE. I STOPPED, RECYCLED MASTER SWITCH OFF THAN ON, LIGHTS WORKED PROPERLY. EVENT OCCURRED AGAIN SIX DAYS LATER. *TR ## VIN FAILED ##

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT SOMEONE WOULD RETURNED HIS CALL LATER. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
ON MARCH 10, 2009 WE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO FROM NU CAR CHEVROLET IN NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE. ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2009, WHILE ON VACATION IN OCEAN CITY, MD, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH US AND OUR TWO YOUNG CHILDREN (AGES 2 AND 5) INSIDE, STRAPPED IN THEIR CAR SEATS. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL THEM FROM THEIR CAR SEATS (TERRIFIED) AND GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM THE RESTAURANT WERE WE WERE PARKED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO NU CAR CHEVROLET ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2009 AND IT HAS REMAINED WITH THEM EVER SINCE. THE DEALERSHIP AND GENERAL MOTORS DETERMINED THE CAUSE TO BE A DEFECTIVE WIRING HARNESS AND HAS ADMITTED FAULT (THERE WAS NO AFTER MARKET WIRING IN THE VEHICLE AND NO PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS). AS OF TODAY, FEBRUARY 5, THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPAIR THE ISSUE AND ARE NOW GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH US TRYING TO GET US TO PAY MORE MONEY FOR A NEW VEHICLE SINCE THEY CAN'T FIND A 2009 REPLACEMENT MODEL. WE ARE REFUSING TO PAY ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY AND STATED THAT WE WILL ACCEPT A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE WITH SAME FEATURES AT NO COST OR WE WANT A FULL REFUND OF OUR VEHICLE PURCHASE. *TR
VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 2.5 OR SO HOURS IN DRIVEWAY. DETERMINED BY FIRE MARSHALL TO HAVE STARTED FROM A ECM IN RIGHT FRONT DASH AREA. FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND EXTINGUISHED FIRE WITH WATER INSTEAD OF FOAM BECAUSE "FOAM TANK WAS NOT OPERATIONAL AT THAT TIME". NO REPAIRS HAVE YET BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE DUE TO OUTSTANDING INSURANCE INVESTIGATION. *TR
