I HAVE A CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2000 K1500. MY REAR BRAKES THE DUST PLATES RUSTTHROUGH AND LARGE PARTS OF THE PLATE ARE MISSING.SHOULD THESE DUST PLATE RUST AND BREAK IN ONLY FOUR YEARS?*AK
I WAS RECENTLY INFORMED BY MECHANIC AS I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION THAT IT COULD NOT BE PASSED DUE TO "EMERGENCY BRAKE" ISSUE. I DO NOT USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE YET THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE SHOES HAVE WORN BEYOND USE. I WAS ALSO INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT 3 OUT OF 4 OF THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO OWN THE SAME MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE (2000 CHEV SUBURBAN) HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY "SAFETY RECALL" I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW IF ANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED. BECAUSE I WAS NOT AWARE THAT MY BRAKES WERE WEARING, THIS COULD HAVE POSSIBLY RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN I MAY HAVE NEEDED TO USE THEM. ALSO INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE ISSUE COULD CAUSE POOR FUEL EFFICIENCY. NOT GOOD IN THIS DAY & TIME (GAS IS TOO EXPENSIVE.). ANY HELP/INFO YOU COULD ADVISE AT THIS POINT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. DUE TO A MALFUNCTION WITHIN THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM, UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, SERVICE BRAKES PULSATED WHICH CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES.*AK
THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ON THE CAR WILL NOT HOLD ON EVEN A SLIGHT GRADE. THEY HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED MULTIPLE TIMES, AND RECENTLY I AUTHORIZED RE-LINING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. I WAS TOLD ONLY ONE SIDE WAS WORN THE OTHER WAS LIKE NEW, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE TECHNICIANS THAT THE DESIGN IF FAULTY. ONLY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PARK SETTING KEEPS MY CAR FROM ROLLING DOWN THE HILL. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT WOULD BE ADDRESSED BY NHTSB, BUT I WANTED TO LOG THE COMPLAINT. DT
INTERMITTENTLY BRAKE PEDAL FAILS. BRAKE PEDAL DIDN'T RESPOND WHEN APPLIED TO SLOW DOWN OR BRAKING. VEHICLE WAS GOING 25-35MPH. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND DIAGNOSTIC READING COULDN'T DETERMINE THE CAUSE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUMPY ROAD WOULD APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT THEY WOULD NOT ACTIVATE. DEALER WAS CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH AND STEPPING ON BRAKE PEDAL AT A STOP SIGN, BUT VEHICLE STOPPED IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. HAD TO BE REPAIRED. *AK THE BRAKES MADE METAL TO METAL SOUND. REPAIR WAS DONE THREE TIMES. DURING THE LAST FAILURE, THE DEALER REPLACED FOUR ROTORS THAT WERE OVER GLAZED DUE TO OVER HEATING. *YH
APPLYING BRAKE ON A ROUGH SURFACE CAUSES BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER ,AND UNABLE TO LOCATE PROBLEM. *AK
BRAKE LINE FAILURE THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED BRAKE FAILURE. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED DEEP RUBBING SOUND FROM BRAKES, ESPECIALLY WHEN DECELERATING BETWEEN 40 AND 20 MPH DEALER REPLACED ROTORS, BUT AFTER REPAIR CONSUMER HAD TO PUMP BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO GET THE BRAKES TO WORK.
