THE OIL WAS 1 1/2 QUARTS LOW AFTER ONLY 900 MILES. THEY FILLED IT UP AND AGAIN IN OCT, IT WAS 1 QUART LOW AFTER ONLY 700 MILES. I HAD A TERRIBLE FAMILY TRAGEDY IN DEC AND WAS UNABLE TO GET MY CONSUMPTION DOCUMENTED HOWEVER, I DID HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED AND WHY IT WAS NOT DOCUMENTED BUT, I WAS TOLD THAT THE OIL TAG WAS "MISSING" AND THAT THEY WERE STARTING A NEW TAG. IN FEB I WENT AGAIN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. ON APRIL 15TH MY OILING CAME ON STATING MY OIL WAS LOW AND NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE. ON APRIL 16TH I NOTICED MY TRUCK START TO HESITATE AND CHUG AFTER TAKING OFF FROM A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. I THOUGH PERHAPS IT WAS BAD GAS. I USED THE REST OF THE TANK AND FILLED UP ON APRIL 18TH. ON APRIL 19TH I NOTICED IT WAS STILL HESITATING AND GETTING WORSE, NOW IT WAS NOT ONLY AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT WAS RANDOM AND MORE FREQUENT. THE MORNING OF APRIL 20TH I CALLED AL SERRA AND TOLD THEM I WAS SCARED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS A DANGER TO DRIVE MY 5 CHILDREN AROUND IN FEAR THAT WE WOULD LOSE POWER ON THE HIGHWAY OR GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE SERVICE REP STATED THEY COULD NOT GET MY TRUCK IN UNTIL TUESDAY. I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THAT ANSWER AND VISITED A LOCAL MECHANIC. UPON MY ARRIVAL I TOLD MY MECHANIC THAT MY CAR WAS HESITATING AND LOSING POWER. THE MECHANIC TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND CAME BACK TO TELL ME THE OIL WAS BONE DRY. HE STATED THAT IF I HAD DRIVEN MUCH FURTHER, THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE SEIZED. HE WANTED ME TO HOW THE VEHICLE TO AL SERRA E NO HELP AND STRANDED WITH MY 5 CHILDREN. NOW, THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE JANUARY OF 2012. OF COURSE, MY FACTORY WARRANTY HAS NOW RUN OUT AND IT IS 3 MONTHS PAST THE WARRANTY OF THE REPAIRS THAT WERE MADE. HOWEVER, THE ONGOING PROBLEM WAS DOCUMENTED PRIOR, MUCH PRIOR, TO THE REPAIR WARRANTY RUNNING OUT. OIL CONSUMPTION GM IGNORING PROBLEM. *TR
MY VEHICLE USES 1 QT OF OIL EVERY 2000 MILES RIGHT NOW, IT WAS EVERY 4,000. SO THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. WHEN I SHARED THIS WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT BOTH CHEVROLET AND CHEVROLET, THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT MY ISSUE WAS STILL WITH IN SPECIFICATIONS. I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT OIL CONSUMPTION WAS ACCEPTABLE. GM, INSTEAD OF FIXING THE PROBLEM APPEAR TO BE IGNORING IT. I HAVE AN 06 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT HAS NEVER USED A QT OF OIL. I PURCHASED MY SUBURBAN WITH EXISTING GM WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAD ROUGHLY 47,000 MILES ON IT AND 7 MONTHS REMAINING OF THE ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRANTY. AFTER ABOUT 900 MILES THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS ODD BECAUSE I CHECKED THE OIL LIFE GAUGE AFTER PURCHASE AND IT SAID IT WAS AT 99% OIL LIFE. THIS WORRIED ME. IT WAS ONE QUART LOW SO I ADDED IT AND DECIDED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. A MONTH LATER AT ABOUT 1000 MILES THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I ADDED ANOTHER QUART AND THEN WENT TO THE DEALER CLOSEST TO MY HOME TO REPORT THE ISSUE. THEY STARTED MONITORING. EACH TIME AT BETWEEN 900 AND 1400 THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS A QUART LOW. THEY BEGAN REMEDIATION. FIRST THE PVC/VALVE COVER REMEDIATION. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEN NEXT THE OIL PAN RELATED REMEDIATION. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE EITHER. NOW I KEEP HAVING TO TAKE THE SUBURBAN TO THE DEALER WHEN THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON, THEY ADD A QUART AND SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, FROM A LEGAL STAND POINT BECAUSE I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE CAR IS OUT OF GM WARRANTY (REMEMBER I REPORTED THIS WHILE IT WAS UNDER GM WARRANTY AND REMINDED THEM OF THAT), THAT GM WON'T DO ANYTHING MORE FROM THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE NOT CONTACTED GM OR OPENED A CASE FILE AND WONT DO THAT. I WAS TOLD I WILL NEED TO PURSUE THAT ON MY OWN. THEY TRIED TO REACH OUT TO MY EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT SAY THEY ARE PUT ON HOLD FOR 10-15 MINUTES AND HAVE TO HANG UP BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO BUSY TO WAIT LONGER. I'VE CALLED THEM REPEATEDLY ASKING THAT A CASE BE OPENED WITH GM AS THIS WAS REPORTED UNDER WARRANTY AND IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THIS ENGINE (I'M OUT OF WARRANTY NOW) BUT THEY JUST KEEP GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. GM NEEDS TO DO A RECALL AND ADDRESS THESE ENGINES. *TR
SINCE 2008 OUR SUBURBAN HAS REQUIRED OIL SERVICING ON AVERAGE EVERY 2 MONTHS. WE TOOK IT TO MANY DEALERS AND WAS TOLD WE NEEDED TO BE ABLE TO TRACK THE CONSUMPTION SOMEHOW. I STATED, CAN'T YOU CHECK WHEN THE OIL SERVICING LIGHT COMES ON AND WAS TOLD NO. DON'T KNOW WHY IT CONSUMES SO MUCH OIL AND IT'S NOT LEAKING. *TR
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION - AT LEAST 1QT PER 1K MILES SOMETIMES MORE. CHEVY EVENTUALLY FIXED THIS UNDER WARRANTY AFTER PROVING OUT THE CONSUMPTION. CHEVY CORPORATE IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM IN THESE TRUCKS AND HAS NOT ONLY WRITTEN IT UP, BUT HAS DESIGNED A FIX FOR IT, DEALER STATES CHEVY CORP DECLINED TO ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE IT'S A $1600 REPAIR. THE ISSUE IS TWO-FOLD. SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE VALVES NOT SEALING CORRECTLY AND OIL IN THE OIL PLAN SPLASHING UP ONTO THE CYLINDER WALLS FASTER THAN THE RINGS CAN REMOVE IT. WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THEY DID SOME WORK TO THE VALVE TRAIN, REPLACED FOULED SPARK PLUGS AND ADDED SOME TYPE OF BAFFLE TO THE OIL PAN. FIX IMPROVED POWER, FUEL CONSUMPTION AND REDUCED OIL CONSUMPTIONS TO NORMAL LEVELS. TRUCK NOW RUNS LIKE NEW. IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THIS GO TO CHEVY AND DEMAND THE FIX. YOU'LL NEED TO PROVE THE OIL CONSUMPTION EITHER THROUGH OIL CHANGE LOGS, OR AS I DID - WHICH WAS TO DO AN OIL CHANGE AT THE DEALER, HAVE THE OIL PLUGS SEALED BY THE DEALER, THEN DRIVE IT 6,000 MILES - HAVING THE DEALER REFILL THE OIL WHEN LOW TO TRACK CONSUMPTION. THEY WON'T WANT TO FIX THIS BECAUSE IT'S SO EXPENSIVE BUT DEMAND THE REPAIR UNDER THE WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CONSUME UP TO THREE QUARTS OF OIL EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAS NOT SUFFERED ANY DAMAGES DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE OIL PROBLEM WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PISTONS AND PISTON RINGS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIR POSSIBLY WOULD NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, USING MORE THAN 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 2K MILES. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT A GM DEALERSHIP WITH 67K MILES ON IT. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS JUST SERVICED, AND THE DIPSTICK SHOWED TO BE AT THE FULL LINE WITH CLEAN OIL. ABOUT 4K MILES LATER THE LOW ENGINE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. THE ENGINE OIL LIFE INDICATOR SAID IT HAD 49% LIFE LEFT. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND FOUND IT WAS MORE THAN 2 QUARTS LOW. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND THAT GM IS EITHER UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO REPAIR. I WILL CONTACT THE SELLING DEALER FOR THE RECORD. *LN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK AND THE EVAPORATION VENT AND FILTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN BURNING OIL AND THE CONTACT HAD TO REFILL THE OIL EVERY TEN DAYS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,000.

I HAVE A 2007 SUBURBAN THAT CONSUMES APPROX 1 QT OF OIL EVERY 800 MILES. AT 1200 MILES/QT THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS WAS "NORMAL CONSUMPTION". I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER THAT CONFIRMED THE 800 MILES/QT AND IS INSTALLING NEW PISTONS AND RINGS NEXT WEEK. APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT A FIX BUT SHOULD HELP WITH CONSUMPTION UNTIL A PERMANENT FIX IS MADE BY GM. *TR
THE ENGINE CONSUMES APPROX 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1700 MILES. THERE IS NO OIL LEAKING UNDER THE VEHICLE. *TR
I AM SEEING AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE WITH MY 2007 CHEVY SUBURBAN. FROM MY MEASURE IT IS CONSUMING 4 1/2 QTS OF OIL PER 3000 MILES. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A "KNOWN" ISSUE BUT DIDN'T PERFORM ANY REPAIRS. I AM INSTEAD PERFORMING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THAT'S FINE BUT I NOW HAVE A FAMILY VEHICLE THAT I CANT TRUST FOR ANTICIPATION OF ENGINE FAILURE/LOCK UP OR WORSE ENGINE BURN UP OR FIRE FROM A LOW OIL CONDITION. *TR

IN OCT. 2007 I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN FROM GORDON CHEVROLET IN TAMPA FLORIDA, IT HAD 20 MILES ON IT. ON DECEMBER 9TH 2008 WHILE ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, AT APPROXIMATELY 12:45 AM, IT EXPLODED AND WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I RECEIVED 2ND AND 3RD DEGREE BURNS AND WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR CLOSE TO 30 MINUTES FOR HELP TO ARRIVE. THE SUBURBAN HAD ABSOLUTELY NO AFTERMARKET CHANGES OR ANY TYPE OF MODIFICATIONS DONE TO IT. ALL OF ITS SERVICING AND REPAIR WORK WAS DONE AT COX CHEVROLET IN BRADENTON FLORIDA, A GENERAL MOTORS DEALERSHIP. THE TRUCK HAD JUST OVER 35,000 MILES ON IT AND IS NOW JUST A BURNT OUT SHELL. DURING THE 1 YEAR AND 2 MONTHS I OWNED IT, I HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH IT AND TOOK IT TO THE SERVICING DEALERSHIP FOR ALL THE PROBLEMS. MY ATTORNEY AND MY INSURANCE AGENT THINK IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OR A DEFECT IN THE REPAIR. AN OFFICIAL CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED AND BECAUSE OF GM'S GOING BANKRUPT THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED. *TR
WE HAVE A 2007 CHEVY SUBURBAN IT STARTING USING EXCESS OIL AROUND 21,000 MILES WHEN HAVE HAD 2 OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DONE AT THE DEALER. THEY REPLACED VALUE SEALS 1,4,7,6 ..THEN STARTED ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. LOW AND BEHOLD IT LOST A QUART AT 1750 MILES. THEY ARE NOW LOOKING AT REPLACING LIFTERS...WE CURRENTLY HAVE 33,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE..HAVE TO KEEP RUNNING BACK EVERY 500 MILES TO GET THIS CHECK. AT FIRST THEY KEPT SAYING NORMAL TO LOSE A QUART OF OIL BUT NOW REALIZE IT IS NOT NORMAL..HAVE YET RESOLVED THE ISSUE. VERY UPSETTING TO HAVE A NEW VEHICLE AND PAID $48K AND HAVE TO KEEP RETURNING TO THE REPAIR SHOP. WE HAVE LOOKED UP ON THE INTERNET AND IT SEEMS THERE HAS BEEN MANY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE.. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS UNDERPOWERED. THE VEHICLE STALLED AT INTERSECTIONS AND WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AT 15 MPH. SHE HEARD STRANGE NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE FOR FIVE WEEKS. CHEVROLET SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO DRIVE IN THAT MANNER. THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE DEALER OWNER ACKNOWLEDGED THE FAILURE, BUT THE DISTRICT MANAGER WAS RELUCTANT AND INFORMED THE DEALER TO STOP REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO HER RESIDENCE WHERE IT CURRENTLY REMAINS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500.
