Takata Recall. The contact's wife owns a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who completed the recall repair; however, while driving the vehicle a week later, the contact's wife noticed that the dashboard was shaking significantly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's wife drove back to their residence, where the contact inspected the dashboard and noticed that it was severely cracked on the driver's side behind the steering wheel and on the passenger's side. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the dashboard replacement would be at his own expense as the manufacturer would not cover the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the dealer should have informed them that the dashboard would be cracked prior to the recall repair and after the failure; however, the manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 122,500.
HI. MY 2011 CHEVY TAHOE "SERVICE AIRBAG" LIGHT IS ON. MY VIN # IS [XXX]. I FOUND A RECALL FOR IT ON THE CHEVY WEBSITE BUT IT SAYS ITS 'RECALL INCOMPLETE, REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE'. I BELIEVE THEY HAVE FAILED TO REMEDY THIS SAFETY RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER. DATE OF RECALL: MAY 27,2016 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER 2049151 NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 16V381. IM JUST WONDERING IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP? SINCE MY "SERVICE AIRBAG" LIGHT IS ON NOW I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS THE RECALL STATES THE FOLLOWING: THE PROPELLANT IN SOME TYPES OF TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATORS CAN DEGRADE OVER TIME, ESPECIALLY AFTER LONG TERM EXPOSURE IN HOT AND HUMID REGIONS. IF THE PROPELLANT DEGRADES TO A CERTAIN LEVEL, THE INFLATORS MAY RUPTURE DURING DEPLOYMENT, CAUSING SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURIES. SEPARATELY AND ADDITIONALLY, THE DASH HAS CRACKED ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE WIDTH OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS CRACKED ON THE COVER TO THE AIRBAG AS WELL. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. IT JUST CRACKED ONE DAY. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED AND I HAVE ATTACHED THE PDF. CLEARLY THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT IS HAPPENING TO ALOT OF PEOPLE. A CRACKED DASHBOARD COULD COMPOUND THE SEVERITY OF A CAR CRASH AND IT COULD SHATTER INTO PIECES UPON AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND SEND SHARDS OF DASHBOARD FLYING AT BOTH THE DRIVER AND THEIR PASSENGERS. BETWEEN THE AIRBAG RECALL AND THE DASH CRACKING IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. GM IS UNWILLING TO HELP ME. I OWN A 2011 CHEVROLET TAHOE. MY DASH BEGAN TO CRACK COMPLETELY FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER. I CALLED THE DEALER TODAY, GEORGE CHEVROLET IN BELLFLOWER CA, AND I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER JOSE. OF COURSE MY TAHOE IS INCLUDED IN THE TAKATA RECALL AND NO PARTS FOR IT ARE AVAILABLE YET. I DID ASK HIM ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEN I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM WITH MY DASH. IT IS SO BADLY CRACKED NOW IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT SECURE AT ALL AS THE CRACKS HAVE MADE THE ENTIRE DASH LOOSE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL AND I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO NOTHING COULD BE DONE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE TAHOE AND HAVE TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF THE VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN 2011. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE SO I HOPE SOMEONE WILL REVIEW AND CONSIDER A RECALL. THE CRACKING BEGAN AT ABOUT 22K MILES. I AM UNABLE TO SELECT THE BUTTON BELOW, BUT PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP IF THERE IS A RECALL.
THE DASHBOARD HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK NEXT TO THE PASSENGER AIRBAG COVER. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT FOR THIS TYPE OF GM VEHICLE. HOWEVER, GM REFUSES TO INSTATE A RECALL TO ADDRESS IT'S CUSTOMER'S CONCERNS. WITH THE PLASTIC OF THE DASHBOARD COMPROMISED, A DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG COULD SEND FRAGMENTS OF PLASTIC INTO THE CABIN.
I JUST BOUGHT MY USED 2011 CHEVY TAHOE. AFTER I DROVE IT HOME I NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD UNDER THE WINDSHIELD KEEPS JUMPING BAD DUE TO 2 CRACKS. MY CONCERN IS THAT IT MAY CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. THE DEARSHIP SAYS I BOUGHT IT AS-IS AND I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED BEFORE SALE.

BOX 33136 DETROIT, MI 48323-5136 ON 7/18/2011 WE PURCHASED A 2011 TAHOE (VIN #[XXX]) REPLACING OUR PREVIOUS 2003 TAHOE, BOTH PURCHASED NEW AND BOTH AT ED MORSE CHEVROLET LOCATED AT 14401 W. SUNRISE BLVD., SUNRISE, FLORIDA 33323-3202. ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD SOME QUALITY AND WORKMANSHIP COMPLAINTS, OUR TAHOE HAS BEEN A RELIABLE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE AT ED MORSE HAS ALSO BEEN OUTSTANDING. HOWEVER, I MUST REGISTER MY DISSATISFACTION WITH TWO OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE ITEMS ON THE TAHOE THAT GENERAL MOTORS HAVE NOT CONSIDERED IT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO CONDUCT A RECALL. MY 2011 TAHOE IS FITTED WITH THE "REGIONAL VALUE PACKAGE" WHICH INCLUDED "CHROME DOOR HANDLES" WHICH IS NOTHING BUT CHROME LOOKING PLASTIC. THESE "CHROME" DOOR HANDLES HAVE CRACKED TWO TIMES AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON JUNE 8TH. 2013 (INVOICE #[XXX]) AND JUNE 21ST. 2014 (INVOICE # [XXX]) UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. ON OCTOBER 15TH. 2013 AT 17,198 MILES, THE DASHBOARD TO MY 2011 TAHOE CRACKED. THIS WAS COVERED UNDER MY FACTORY WARRANTY. MY TAHOE IS NOW AT ED MORSE CHEVROLET GETTING THE DASHBOARD REPLACED AGAIN DUE TO IT CRACKING IN THE SAME EXACT PLACE. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS TIME I'M BEING TOLD THAT THEY WILL BE CHARGING ME A "CO-PAYMENT" OF $200 TO REPLACE THE DASH. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT'S OBVIOUS THAT BOTH THE DOOR HANDLES AND THE DASHBOARDS ON THE TAHOE AND SIMILAR MODELS HAVE A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND INFERIOR MATERIALS. I SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED A $200 "CO-PAYMENT" TO FIX SOMETHING THAT GENERAL MOTORS KNOWS IS A DEFECTIVE PART. THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTINGS, BLOGS AND THREADS THAT REFER TO THESE "DEFECTIVE ITEMS" ESPECIALLY ON THE DASHBOARD. EVEN FACEBOOK HAS A PAGE DEDICATED TO THE CRACKED DASHBOARDS. DASH IS CRACKED IS SEVERAL AREAS
DASH ON 2011 CHEVROLET TAHOE HAS CRACKED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEXT TO THE AIRBAG PANEL. DASH HAS ALSO CRACKED ON THE DRIVER SIDE ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. CONCERN IS THAT IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHERE THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY THE DASH BOARD MAY BREAK APART AND BECOME SHRAPNEL CAUSING ADDITIONAL INJURY, PERMANENT DISABILITY, OR DEATH TO THE PASSENGER.
DASH IS CRACKING AROUND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THIS IS UNSAFE BECAUSE IN THE EVENT OF PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYING, SHARDS OF CRACKED DASH CAN BECOME PROJECTILES. MANY COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET ABOUT SAME ISSUE, NO RESOLUTION FROM DEALER OR GM CUSTOMER SERVICE.
THE DASHBOARD ON MY TAHOE HAS BEGAN TO CRACK. IT ORIGINALLY BEGAN TO CRACK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND HAS SPREAD UP OVER THE CONTROL PANEL. LAST WEEK I NOTICED A CRACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THAT LEADS RIGHT TO THE AIRBAG. NOW THAT THE AIRBAG IS INVOLVED I DEFINITELY FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. SEEING THE WIDESPREAD COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. $70,000 VEHICLES SHOULD NOT HAVE PLASTIC DASHBOARDS THAT CRUMBLE AWAY. UPDATED 09/09/15*LJ
I NOTICED ABOUT A MONTH AGO THAT MY TAHOE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED ON TWO SPOTS. *TR
SHORTLY AFTER BUYING MY USED TAHOE A CRACK DEVELOPED NEAR THE CORNER OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG, FORMING A "Y" SHAPE WHICH LEAVES A SMALL, SHARP PIECE OF POTENTIAL SHRAPNEL IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY. I FEAR THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE POTENTIALLY FATAL OUTCOMES DUE TO THE LIKELIHOOD OF THE BRITTLE PLASTIC BECOMING FLYING SHRAPNEL IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT AND AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. DASHBOARD CRACKED THROUGH TO THE AIRBAG CAVITY, ALSO ON TOP OF MAIN GAUGE DISPLAY. IT IS BEGINNING TO FORK IN TWO DIRECTIONS. *TR
I OWN A 2011 TAHOE THAT HAS BEEN KEPT IN THE GARAGE AND IS IN IMMACULATE CONDITION. I HAVE 2 CRACKS ON MY DASHBOARD; ONE ON THE UPPER LEFT-HAND SIDE OF MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND THE OTHER RIGHT BEHIND MY STEERING WHEEL. THIS CRACK IS ACTUALLY BRANCHING INTO TWO CRACKS NOW. I HAVE SOME SERIOUS CONCERNS REGARDING THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE IN THE EVENT I AM IN A COLLISION AND MY AIRBAGS NEED TO BE DEPLOYED. THIS CRACKED DASH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE IN TAHOES FROM AT LEAST 2007 AND NEWER AND I AM CONCERNED THAT GM HAS DONE NOTHING TO RECALL THIS ISSUE, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING HOW FAR BACK IT APPEARS TO BE AFFECTING VEHICLES. MY CONCERN IS THE POSSIBILITY OF LACK OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND/OR SHARDS OF SHARP PLASTIC FLYING THROUGH THE AIR IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION CAUSING INJURY TO PASSENGERS OR, IN THE EVENT MY AIRBAGS DO DEPLOY, A COMPROMISE TO THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THEIR DEPLOYMENT DUE TO PUNCTURE. IT IS APPARENT THE DASH IS DEFECTIVE BY THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR ISSUES REPORTED BY CUSTOMERS. IT IS APPARENT THAT THE DASH IS ALREADY COMPROMISED DUE TO THESE CRACKS AND GM NEEDS TO CONSIDER THE SAFETY ISSUES POSED WITH THIS DEFECT. *TR
