Crack in passenger side dashboard at the top left of the airbag panel. It started and has quickly cracked deeper and I am concerned this will affect the safety of my passenger if the vehicle was in an accident.

I purchased a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ around July 10th, 2021 from an individual in Georgia. The vehicle has been immaculately maintained with no damages on it at all. I had researched any recalls on the vehicle before I even looked at it. I found that there was one for an airbag problem. Long story short, I purchased the vehicle and the previous owner took it for the recall issue to be repaired before I picked it up. About 2 weeks after I got it, I noticed that the dashboard was vibrating and that was not anything that was happening when I purchased it. I thought it might just be loose. I’m only 5 feet tall so I could not see over the domed instrument panel when driving. It was only when my daughter drove it that she was the one who noticed the very large crack. It’s cracked on both sides with the largest being on the driver’s side. The crack covers the entire dashboard from the windshield to the dome over the instrument panel. I feel that this is a serious safety issue. I have recently discovered that there was a lawsuit against GM asking for these vehicles to be recalled for this problem. Apparently it happens quite a bit!! I called the dealership that repaired the airbag issue but of course they couldn’t or wouldn’t help me. I know these dashboards are expensive to replace..upwards of $2000. I wanted to file a complaint because as I said earlier, this is a safety concern for me. Can you help?

Similar to many other complaints previously filed, the dash board on my 2014 Tahoe has numerous cracks. The cracks were first identified in April 2018 and have continued to grow in size and number. It has been inspected by a Riverside Chevrolet in Wetumpka, AL but this is not a part of a current safety recall. There is significant and growing concern that if the vehicle is involved in an accident that the passenger-side airbag will not work properly (having been cut by sharp pieces of the broken dash) or will propel pieces of the dash toward the occupants of the vehicle. This needs to be investigated so that GM will be forced to issue a safety recall for this known problem.

THE DASHBOARD IN MY VEHICLE LIKE MANY OTHER PEOPLES DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED COMPLETELY. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH ALL 2014 CHEVY TAHOE'S. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR ME AND ALL THE OTHERS AFFECTED. THIS WILL COST ME A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF MONEY TO BE FIXED AND NOTHING WAS DONE OTHER THAN ME DRIVING AND PARKING MY CAR. I READ THIS COULD AFFECT MY AIRBAGS AS WELL.

YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING HOME, MY DASHBOARD EXPLODED OPEN. I GUESS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS WHICH SHOULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM TO THE MANUFACTURER. AFTER SAFELY PULLING OVER I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT I NOW HAVE A LARGE CRACK IN MY DASHBOARD. PARTS SHOT OUT OF THE DASH AND COULD HAVE HIT ME WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE INVESTIGATE!

DEFECTIVE CRACKED DASHBOARD. THE CRACK CONTINUES TO EXTEND AND IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, IT COULD POTENTIALLY PUNCTURE THE AIR BAG, GREATLY COMPROMISING SAFETY. ADDITIONALLY, THE BRITTLE DASHBOARD COULD BECOME SHARP FLYING PIECES IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED GM/CHEVROLET IN MAY 2018 TO REPORT THE CRACK AND WAS GIVEN A QUOTE FOR ALMOST $2000.00 TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD. PLENTY OF DATA SHOWS THAT THE DEFECT OF GM DASHBOARDS CRACKING IS WIDESPREAD, HOWEVER, GM FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR FAULT AND RECALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. I AM CONTACTING YOU AS A CONCERNED OWNER AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY FAMILY. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED BY GM OR THE GM DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THEY ALL HAVE TURN A BLIND EYE TO THE ISSUE. I HOPE THIS MESSAGE DOES NOT FALL IN DEAF EARS AND YOU CAN ASSIST ME IN SOLVING THIS HAZARDOUS SITUATION I AM IN DUE TO GM LACK OF CONCERN FOR SAFETY.

I HAVE A 2014 CHEVY SONIC AND SINCE THE FIRST SET OF NEW WIPERS THEYHAVE BEEN AN ISSUE. THE DRIVER SIDE ONE IS THE ISSUE. THEY FLY OFF WITH THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IN TOTAL I HAVE HAD SEVEN WIPER BLADES FLY OFF ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING. LAST FRIDAY WE HAD MAJOR SNOW COMING DOWN QUICKLY, ON MY WAY HOME MY WIPER BLADE FLEW OFF AGAIN. THE ICE FROZE TO MY WINDSHIELD BEFORE I COULD GET TO A SAFE PARKING PLACE. IT MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE TO PULL OVER AND GET OUT OF HEAVY TRAFFIC SAFELY. I HAVE HAD CHEVY PERSONALL, AUTO ZONE, AND MY HUSBAND ALL REPLACE THE WIPERS, IT NEVER FAILS THEY STILL END UP FLYING OFF THE DRIVER SIDE.

TAKATA RECALL MY DASHBOARD IS CRACKING ON MY 2014 CHEVROLET TAHOE LTZ. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND MY DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM. GM IS DOING NOTHING ON THE PART OF HELP PAY FOR IT. THE DEALER IS GIVING A DISCOUNT. BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND THIS IS COMMON WITH CHEVROLET TAHOE'S. I WANT TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THIS ISSUE . VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS CRACKING ON DASHBOARD NEAR AIRBAG. BOTH FRONT DOORS HAVE LOST ALL PLASTIC IN THE DOOR HANDLE MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GRIP DOOR TO CLOSE THE DOORS, NO FORM LEFT TO DOOR HANDLE. BOTH DOOR AND DASH HAVE BEEN THIS WAY FOR 2 YEARS AND OUT OF WARRANTY SO NO ONE WILL FIX THE ISSUES!

I OWN A 2014 TAHOE WITH ONLY 34000 MILES, A VEHICLE I'M STILL PAYING FOR. A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE DASHBOARD CRACKED FOR NO REASON. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THOUSANDS OF GM VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED BY THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE. THE CRACK NOT ONLY AFFECTS THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE BUT ALSO THE SAFETY OF THE PASSENGERS AS IT MAY PUNCTURE THE AIRBAG DURING DEPLOYMENT OR SHARP PIECES OF THE DASHBOARD CAN FLY OUT AS THE DASHBOARD IS SO BRITTLE. AS A GOVERNMENT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER I FIND IT DISTURBING THAT THE NHTSA HAS TURNED A BLIND EYE TO THIS PROBLEM. IT IS OBVIOUS A DEFECT AFFECTING THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES AND IGNORING, PUTTING HUNDRES OF LIVES AT RISK TO SAVE GM'S BOTTOM LINE, IS UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE EXHAUSTED COUNTLESS HOURS DEALING WITH GM'S CUSTOMER SERVICES REPS AND THEY ALL WORK OUT OF A UNIFIED SCRIPT AND REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND REPLACE THE PART. NOW I FIND MYSELF DRIVING A TIME BOMB WITH MY FAMILY IN IT. I AM BEGGING YOUR AGENCY TO LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AGAIN AND TO NOT LOOK THE OTHER WAY. MY DASHBOARD HAS A 2" CRACK STARTING FROM THE TOP OF THE AIRBAG AND RUNNING UP TO THE HEAT EXCHANGE VENT. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AND I HEARD A POPPING/CRACKING SOUND AND AFTER I RETURNED FROM MY TRIP I NOTICED THE SMALL CRACK IN THE DASH.THE CRACK CONTINUES TO GROW AND NOW HAS SPREAD ALONG THE HEAT EXCHANGE. CHEVROLET SAID I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DASH AT MY EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND BECAUSE SUCH CARE HAS BEEN PROVIDED IT SHOULD BE WARRANTIED BY CHEVROLET.

GM RECALL NUMBER: 16145 INDICATES ENGINE COOLING FAN FIRE IS POSSIBLE AND VEHICLES SHOULD NOT BE LEFT TO IDLE. OUR DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED IN NOVEMBER BUT PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE TO MAKE THE CORRECTION. THIS POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS MANY OF THESE TAHOES AFFECTED AND 3 OF THEM ARE K-9 VEHICLES THAT REQUIRE LONG PERIODS OF IDLING TO KEEP THE K-9 COOL. (I AM SURE THIS IS THE CASE FOR POLICE DEPTS. ACROSS THE US) I HAVE CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REQUESTING MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECALL PARTS PRODUCTION OR IF THERE IS ANYTHING THEY CAN DO FOR OUR K-9 VEHICLES SPECIFICALLY BEFORE THE WEATHER GETS WARMER AND I WAS NOT GIVEN ANY ASSISTANCE. I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD CONTINUE TO CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR INFORMATION. THEY GAVE ME A REFERENCE NUMBER TO MY CASE 8-2851903801. *THIS IS THE VIN I USED WHEN CONTACTING GM, NOTE WE HAVE OTHER VEHICLES WE WANT FIXED QUICKLY ALSO. WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE YET BUT THIS KNOWN PROBLEM PUTS LAW ENFORCEMENT AT RISK OF LONG RESPONSE TIME AND A SERVICE ANIMAL AT RISK FOR FATALITY OR HARM.
