I bought my car and not even a month later I was driving off the interstate and it shut down on me. I had it towed to my house and it won’t start anymore. The car makes a funny clickin noise. It could have killed me if I would have wrecked.
Both catalytic converters are bad and the vehicle only has 89k miles
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND THEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TRAVERSE HAD IT ABOUT A YEAR AND SINCE I HAVE IT REPLACED THE STARTER. COOLANT SOMEHOW WENT INTO MOTOR OIL EVERY TIME I START THE VEHICLE A BIG HUGE WHITE CLOUD APPEARED FROM THE MUFFLER.
I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR QUIT RUNNING. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE. I HAVEN'T HAD THIS CAR A YEAR YET AND THIS HAPPENS. IT'S NOT RIGHT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE ENGINES. FROM SEVERAL MECHANICS I HAVE TALKED TO SAID THEY ARE KNOWN TO HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. THEY NEED TO BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A THREE YEAR UNLIMITED WARRANTY THROUGH THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE ENGINE WAS CONTACTED MULTIPLE TIMES AND STATED THAT THE OWNER WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE ENGINE SEIZED, AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THAT METAL SHAVINGS WERE FOUND IN THE OIL COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED WHILE BEING OPERATED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THOMPSON CHEVROLET BUICK GMC (701 S 2ND ST, PATTERSON, CA 95363) ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS FOR THIS FAILURE, BUT IT COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTHTOWNE CHEVROLET BUICK GMC (695 BUKKSBORO DR, NEWNAN, GA 30265) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND OUR VEHICLE STARTED MISFIRING AFTER WE TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY FIXED THE AIRBAG CODES SO THE AIR BAG WARNING WOULD GO OFF. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE WIRING IN THE ENGINE TOO NOT JUST BETWEEN SEATS. WE REPLACED ALL SIX PLUGS AND 3 COILS THAT THE CODES SAID WERE MISFIRING. GOT IT BACK AND DROVE TO GEORGIA BOUT A 2 1/2 HOUR DRIVE. BEFORE WE GOT THERE IT MISFIRED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE MADE IT BACK ON SUNDAY BUT CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT FLASHING. I BARLEY MADE IT TO EXIT AND HAD TO STOP AT GAS STATION ACROSS FROM THE ONE HER RIDE WAS AT. OUR FRIENDS GOT IT PULLED INTO A SPOT BUT IT MADE WEIRD POPPING NOISES AND HAD BURNING SMELL WITH NO POWER THEN AT VERY END POWER KICKED IN AND HE HAD TO SLAM BRAKES. I LEFT CAR THERE AND FORGOT TO LOCK IT SO WE DROVE BACK TO SEE IF MY HUSBAND COULD GET IT BACK TO SHOP. MY HUSBAND WAS ACCELERATING UP ON RAMP AND CAR JERKED AND DIED COMPLETELY. HE HAD TO FIGHT IT OVER TO EMERGENCY LANE AT TOP OF RAMP. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. COSTED 150 TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SHOP. SHOP REPLACED CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AFTER ABOUT A WEEK CAUSE HAD TO FIG OUT WHAT HAP. DROVE CAR COUPLE WEEKS IT MESSED UP AGAIN. SHOP REDID THE WIRING IN ENGINE THAT DEALERSHIP MESSED UP AND WE BOUGHT GM PLUGS AND 3 COILS. CAR WORKED A LITTLE BIT MESSED UP AGAIN. TRIED TO GET IT 75 MILES TO DEALERSHIP AND PULLED OVER TO HAVE IT TOWED 150 AGAIN BECAUSE IT WAS ABOUT TO DIE COMPLETELY AGAIN. CONVERTERS HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. CAR IS MESSED UP AGAIN. HUSBAND RESEARCHED IT BAD TIMING (WHICH MAKES ENGINE SKIP TIME AND IT HAD BEEN JERKING AND LURCHING SO PROBABLY IS WHAT BROKE MOTOR MOUNT) MAKES THE COILS SEND TOO MUCH GAS AND INSIDES OF CONVERTERS MELT AND BLOCK UP. IF ENGINE DIES COMPLETELY AT 70MPH ON FREEWAY A BAD WRECK CAN HAPPEN THIS IS UNSAFE AND CHEVROLET SHOULD REPLACE THESE ENGINES.
THE TIMING CHAIN HAS BEEN AN ISSUE NOW TWICE ON THIS CAR. I PURCHASED THE CAR AT 51,000 MILES. IN JANUARY OF 2015 I GOT THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED. IN DECEMBER OF 2017 AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN WHILE ON A BUSY ROAD AND SHUT DOWN. 2 SEPARATE MECHANICS ARE SAYING THAT IT IS THE TIMING CHAIN THAT HAS SLIPPED A FEW TEETH AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THAT SHORT OF A TIME.
TWICE IN THE PAST 11 MONTHS I HAVE HAD CYLINDER COIL FAILURES WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE COIL FAILURES AND RESULTING MISFIRES CAUSED A SUDDEN LOSS OF FULL POWER AND A DANGEROUS SLOW DOWN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECTED THE DTC AND INDICATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A WARRANTY CAMPAIGN AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE IF THEY HAD A SOLUTION TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
MERGING ONTO HIGHWAY. ENGINE MISFIRING RESULTING IN VIOLENT SHAKING OF VEHICLE AND LOSS OF POWER IN A HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC SITUATION. VERY DANGEROUS. SAME PROBLEM ONE YEAR AGO. BOTH TIMES CAUSE WAS FAULTY IGNITION COIL. CODES P0300.
UNEXPLAINED/EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE, VEHICLE IS NOT LEAKING OR BURNING OIL.
THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO THE GM TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM SPECIAL WARRANTY COVERAGE # 11340. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO THE SHOP AND THEY SAID IT'S OVER ON MILEAGE TO GET IT FIXED UNDER THE COVERAGE. THE CONCERN THAT I HAVE IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THIS TIMING CHAIN SLIPS OR BREAKS. THE ENGINE WILL LOCK UP AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TIMING SPROCKETS BEING TOO SHALLOW OF A PITCH. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO FIX IT UNDER THAT PROBLEM. I WAS THINKING THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM FOR A-LOT OF PEOPLE OWNING THESE VEHICLES. AS FAR AS MY VEHICLE IT'S STILL IN THE SHOP WAITING FOR AN ANSWER ON WHAT I WANT TO DO. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT ALL THREE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
WELL MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON FREEWAY WITH OUR KIDS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE VEHICLE POWERED DOWN, WE FELT LIKE IT WAS TIMING CHAIN AND TURNS OUT IT WAS.. GENERAL MOTORS FIXED TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM BUT NOW THE DEALERSHIP SAYS ALL THREE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ARE BAD BECAUSE OF GAS SEEPING IN BECAUSE OF THE TIMING ISSUE AND TO FIX THE CONVERTERS IT WILL COST UPWARDS OF 2500 DOLLARS... SO IF SOMEONE COULD PLEASE ADVISE OF ANY KNOWN RECALLS PLEASE... ALSO WE JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK TWO WEEKS AGO AND WITH SEVEN KIDS DON'T HAVE THE CASH LAYING AROUND FOR SUCH A EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT WE FEEL SHOULD BE COVERED IF CAUSED BY THE TIMING ISSUE IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR

I PURCHASE CAR IN 7/6/13 ONLY HAD IT 15 MONTHS DURING WHICH TIME HAD 4-5 RECALLS NOT INCLUDING A LOT OF MAJOR REPAIRS. THE LAST TIME I PICK UP IN DECEMBER ON A SATURDAY DOWN ON MONDAY. PERFORMED EMISSION SERVICE. HAPPENED AGAIN 60DAYS LATER. BACK TO THE DEALER FOUND CODE P0305 AND P0306. THEY CLEANED SPARK PLUGS. HAPPENED AGAIN 30 DAYS LATER. BACK TO THE DEALER. CODES P0300, P0305, PO301, P0304, P0306. ONSTAR DIAGNOSTICS: CYLINDER MISFIRE, ENGINE MISFIRE. BACK TO THE DEALER. SOAK ENGINE WITH GM CLEANER. HAPPENED AGAIN 1 DAY LATER. BACK TO THE DEALER. SAME CODES AS ABOVE. DEALER WANTS TO DO A VALVE JOB ON THE CAR. WAITING TO FIND OUT WHAT THAT WILL COST. DON'T KNOW WHEN THE MISFIRES WILL HAPPEN. IF AM TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER CAR ON A HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED AND A MISFIRE HAPPENS I AM SURE A ACCIDENT WILL OCCUR AND IT COULD BE FATAL. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART, VEHICAL WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHO STATED CATHLITIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED AND WOULD BE REPLACED. FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT DEALER STATED ENGINE BACKFIRED DURING TEST DRIVE INVESTIGATION REVEALED ENGINE FAILURE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED LUCKLY INSURANCE COVERED THIS REPAIR, FOLLOWING ENGINE REPAIR CAR WAS STARTED BUT STILL BACKFIRED INVESTIGATION REVEALED IGNITION COIL WAS DEFECTIVE.. RESHEARCH BY ME ON THE INTERNET SHOWED PROBLEMS WITH IGNITION COIL CAUSING ENGINE AND CATHLITIC CONVERTER PROBLEM, THIS PROBLEM COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IF DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS THEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURES. *TR
DRIVING DOWN I30 AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN TO 20 MPH WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SOON AFTER OR MAYBE AS THE SPEED DROPPED. SHOOK ME UP LUCKILY THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SHAKING OR SHOWED NO SIGN OF DAMAGE OTHER THAN IT NOT WANTING TO GO PAST 20 MPH. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ONE EXIT AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I GET THE VEHICLE SERVICED AND DECIDED TO DRIVE IT THERE. I AM BEING TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FELL APART AND DAMAGED ENGINE CYLINDERS 3 AND 5 SO I WILL BE NEEDING THE ENGINE REPLACED. DO NOT KNOW IF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT FAILED WAS THE ONE THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IN APRIL 2014. *TR
APPROXIMATELY A WEEK AFTER TAKING IT TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON STEERING PROBLEMS, MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING NOISE. I TOOK IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THEY ALL SEEM TO THINK IT WAS RELATED TO THE TIMING CHAIN. AS TIME PROGRESSED THE NOISE GOT EXCEEDINGLY WORSE AND USED AN EXTENSIVE AMOUNT OF GAS. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY NOT OPERATING AND IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 120K MILES. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY STATED THE PROBLEM OCCURRED DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF USAGE. AFTER CHECKING THE WEBSITE WWW.CHEVYTRAVERSEFORUM.COM I DISCOVERED THAT MANY OTHER CONSUMERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM; HOWEVER, THEIR USAGE WAS MUCH LOWER, I.E. 19K POSTED BY COTTON-SMITH, 20K HEATHER AND MARK, 21K JUDIH, TO NAME A FEW. SENSOR CODE WAS P0017 I CONTACTED THE GM CONSUMER LINE LISTED ON THEIR WEBSITE TO NO AVAIL. REQUESTING AN INVESTIGATION BE CONDUCTED ON THE ISSUES RELATING TO TIMING CHAINS/ENGINE PROBLEMS. *TR
THE ENTIRE ENGINE FAILED,SEIZED. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPORTED THAT IT WAS DO TO NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE CHANGE OIL LIGHT WAS ON BUT NOT A LOW OIL LIGHT, THERE WAS NO OIL LEAKAGE OR SMELL NOTED.
