The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was a loud rattling sound coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact observed the vehicle and discovered that the flex plate was fractured. The dealer was contacted and notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the passenger’s side front wheel. Additionally, the vehicle was stalling while attempting to accelerate. The check engine and power train warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed with a failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Flex plate is broken in several places. This cannot happen on a normal wear part, cars with well over 250k miles do not have flex plate/ flywheel issues.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle began to shake and the transfer case was damaged internally. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to the independent mechanic who informed the contact that the transmission bolt mounts were fractured. The manufacturer was contacted and referred him to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Flexplate and Torque Converter caused the car to shake and lose power. It was confirmed by Ford Dealership and repairs through Ford Dealership. There were no warning lights, just a rattling sound from motor. The flexplate was replaced once already before this incident when the car was under warranty at 60,000 miles. It was replaced again this time at 98,000 miles.
The shifter cable for the power train became dislodge causing the car not to be able to shift from park, to neutral to drive. The car had to be towed to be repaired by a Ford Dealership that charged $335 for labor and $10 for parts and in additional a $43 charge for Environmental Compliance
CAR SOUNDED ROUGH WHEN I STARTED IT AFTER WORK WITH VIBRATION NOISE THAT GOT LOUDER AS I DROVE AND LOUDER STILL WHEN IT WAS IDLING AT LIGHTS. DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP - IT'S A CRACKED FLEX PLATE. UPON RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD EDGE. WAITING TO SEE WHAT IS COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. 66000 MILES.
IN novermber 2019 heard ratteling noise for engine took to dealer . they found a crack flex plate. they replaced the short block and transmission pump per the service bulletin this was at 56,000 miles. now at 86.000 same noise came back.to back to dealer same problem crack flex plate.the dealer and ford have both refused to cover this repair because it is now out of warrant.this is clearly a defective part that ford should have fixed and recall all cars with this engine. case#cas-34043931

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON PLACING THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD ABNORMAL GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO REDWOOD FORD (1170 S STATE ST, UKIAH, CA 95482) WHERE THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE DEFECT MAY BE RELATED TO A CRACKED FLEX PLATE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED IN THE DEALER POSSESSION FOR TWO WEEKS AND REMAINED UNREPAIRED. THE CONTACT THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO FUTURE FORD OF SACRAMENTO (4625 MADISON AVE, SACRAMENTO, CA 95841) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
CAR WAS SHOWING SOME POTENTIAL PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION. INTENTION WAS TO GET A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND FILL, SPARK PLUGS REPLACED. AFTER PLUGS REPLACED, REPAIR SHOP TOOK FOR TEST DRIVE ON LOCAL STREETS. THEN IT DIED. TOWED BACK TO SHOP, WOULDN'T RESTART. EXAMINED IT AND FOUND FLYWHEEL DETACHED. TOWED OVER TO FORD AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. THEY CALLED TODAY AND SAID NEED TO REPLACE FLYWHEEL, TORQUE CONVERTER, AND OIL PUMP TO THE TUNE OF $5300! I INTERNET SEARCHED THIS AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS. FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS ON 2017 MODELS, BUT NOT 2016. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE THE SAME YET FORD WILL NOT REPAIR THIS AT THEIR EXPENSE. MAKES NO SENSE, SAME PARTS! IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET FORD TO RE-LOOK AT THIS? I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A PART DEFECT LIKE THE BOLTS THAT FAILED TO HOLD THE FLEX PLATE ON!
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY, VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE HUMMING SOUND FROM REAR. AFTER ABOUT 1 MINUTE OF THESE SOUNDS, THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER. VEHICLE CONTINUED SPUTTERING AT EACH STOP LIGHT, RUNNING ROUGH UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO REACH MY DESTINATION AND TURN VEHICLE OFF.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
TRANSMISSION SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING DISINTEGRATED AND CABLE SNAPPED OFF A FEW TIMES!! THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AFFECTING THE RECALLED 2014 FORD FUSION. THEY ARE USING THE SAME BUSHING FOR THE FORD EDGE PER THE PARTS DEPARTMENT WHERE I BOUGHT THE REPLACEMENT. THE PARTS REP SAID THEY ARE SELLING THE BUSHING FOR FORD EDGES ALL THE TIME. :(
WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HEADWAY HEADED OUT OF TOWN, MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE EXCESSIVE RATTLES AND NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA, WHEN I WOULD COME TO A STOP THE NOISE WAS MUCH LOUDER. I SMELT A SLIGHT BURNT SMELL, AND ALSO NOTICED THE GEARS JUMPING IN AND OUT. I IMMEDIATELY PARKED THE CAR, CALLED FOR HELP AND HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK. I TOOK IT TO TAMIAMI FORD, IN WHICH THEY TOLD ME THE FLEX PLATE IS CRACKED. AND I WOULD NEED A NEEDED A NEW FLEX PLATE, TORQUE, CRANKSHAFT. I HAD ABOUT 69,000 MILES ON THE CAR AT THIS POINT AND THEY SAID THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AND WOULD NOT COVER THIS. THEY CONTACTED HIGHER PEOPLE AND YET STILL WOULD NOT COVER THE ISSUE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET. BUT AS I SEE MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE ON FORUMS. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF MY CRACKED FLEXPLATE. I HAVE A TOW BILL AND REPAIR BILL BUT NOT ON HAND AT THE MOMENT.
WHILE DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY AT 70 MPH. IN TRAFFIC ENGINE LOST POWER CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND WOULD NOT SPEED BACK UP. THE WRENCH AND THE HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE ICONS WERE ON. TURNED ON FLASHERS AND PEOPLE BEHIND ME GAVE ME ROOM TO CHANGE LANES AND PULL TO THE SHOULDER. ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING ROUGHLY. HIT ENGINE STOP BUTTON, WAITED A FEW SECONDS TRIED TO RESTART. IT CRANKED AND FINALLY RESTARTED. WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME WITH NO PROBLEMS. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD DEALER AND THEY ACTED LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL.
THROTTLE BODY FAILURE - WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THERE WAS A CLUNK SOUND AND A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED ON OUR DISPLAY AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. WE COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND HAD TO CAREFULLY COAST TO NEAREST OFFRAMP. WE TRIED TO RESTART CAR AND IT DID TURNOVER BUT THE SAME PROBLEM REPEATED AFTER ABOUT ONE MINUTE. IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH A VARIETY OF FORD MODELS. NO RECALL ON OUR VEHICLE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE.
MY WIFE WAS ON HER WAY TO A BUSINESS MEETING. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. STARTED TO TURN RIGHT, HIT ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND VEHICLE BARELY MOVED. LOST POWER, COULD ONLY GO 5 MPH. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, AS DID AWD. CREATED TRAFFIC HAZZARD AS VEHICLES BACKED UP BEHIND ON CITY STREET. CREEPED TO A PARKING AREA AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER FOR EVALUATION AND REPAIR. CAUSE WAS POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) WHICH WAS NOT REPLACED (FOLLOWING CURRENT FORD POLICY), BUT REPROGRAMMED, MEANING THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN IN AN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS SETTING, SUCH AS PROCEEDING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION OR ON A HIGHWAY.
