I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. THEN AS I CAME OUT OF THE TURN THE CAR STALLED I COULD NOT GO. I PRESSED ON THE GAS BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. IT WORKED FINE UNTIL I WENT AROUND ANOTHER RIGHT TURN, AND IT DID THE SAME THING THAT'S WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. *TR
THE CAR CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP WITHOUT WARNING, IT SEEMS TO HAVE A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. *TR
MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP OXMOOR FORD AND WAS TOLD MY THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. NO ETA AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD ARRIVE QUOTED $600. SPENDING $53 PER DAY FOR A RENTAL CAR. I GOOGLED THROTTLE BODY SAW WHERE ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS WERE POSTED THOUGHT I WOULD ADD MINE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. FIRST INCIDENT: WAS DRIVING ON EXPRESS WAY FEEDER ROAD ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE TO ENTER XWAY RAMP WHEN CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN TO QUICKLY DECELERATE. APPLYING GAS YIELDED NO RESULT. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD AND ESSENTIALLY COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT. TURNED OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED CAR AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND PROBLEM WAS GONE. SECOND INCIDENT: ONE DAY LATER, WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN AGAIN THE CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN TO RAPIDLY DECELERATE. APPLYING ACCELERATED YIELDED NO RESULTS. COASTED TO STOP AT SIDE OF ROAD. TURNED OFF ENGINE. WAS AGAIN ABLE TO RESTART CAR AND PROBLEM WAS GONE. *TR
MY ESCAPE SUDDENLY LOST POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR GOT NO RESPONSE. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED, THE ENGINE RAN NORMALLY AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. BECAUSE I WAS IN TRAFFIC, THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS QUITE DANGEROUS. THE MECHANIC SAYS THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE UNTIL HE CAN GET A REPLACEMENT PART. HE SAYS THE PROBLEM IS SO WIDESPREAD THAT THE PARTS ARE HARD TO GET. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND HAD TO CRUISE INTO A PARKING LOT. VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO DEALER. WAS TOLD IT WAS A THROTTLE ASSEMBLY PROBLEM. THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND IT HAS BEEN THREE WEEKS WITH NO FIX. IF THE EVENT HAD HAPPENED WHILE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, INSTEAD OF IN THE FLOW, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. LOOKING ONLINE I SEE THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM. *TR

WHILE DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON TIDEWATER TRAIL (RT 17) BETWEEN GLOUCESTER COUNTY AND TAPPAHANOCK, VA THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED WITH FORWARD MOTION AT THE SAME RATE OF SPEED. I COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE AND PARKED ON THE SHOULDER, OR GRASS BESIDE THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR A MINUTE, THEN STARTED IT UP AGAIN. IT SEEMED TO BE OK FOR ABOUT 3 MORE MILES AT A REDUCED RATE OF SPEED WITH FLASHERS ON, THEN IT DID THE SAME THING. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO A GARAGE UP THE STREET FROM WHERE I LIVE. THEY INDICATED IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY DEFECT AND THAT THE PART WAS BACKORDERED. I HAD FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TOW THE CAR TO HARRIS FORD IN NEWPORT NEWS VA AND THEY CONFIRMED YESTERDAY THAT THE THROTTLE BODY PART HAD FAILED ON THE VEHICLE AND THAT IT WAS BACKORDERED. I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN BRINGING A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST FORD BECAUSE THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND IF THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM THEY SHOULD AT THE LEAST DO A RECALL AND HAVE AMPLE PARTS ON HAND TO REPAIR THE VEHICLES IN A TIMELY MANNER, OR PREVENT FAILURE BEFORE A FEMALE DRIVING ALONE IS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DRIVING WHAT SHE ASSUMES TO BE A SAFE VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS FAILURE 46,851.
DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH, WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED TO YELLOW. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, BUT INSTEAD OF STOPPING, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I CALLED THE POLICE AND A POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE. ... UPDATED 04/11/13 *BF

IN ADDITION, THE WRENCH WARNING SYMBOL ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DETECTED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR WAS FAULTY. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN UPDATED THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND TIME AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO KIDS IN TRAFFIC ON 95 WHEN MY TRUCK JUST SEEMED TO STOP WORKING. IT DID NOT STALL, THE ENGINE WAS STILL WORKING, I COULD STEER BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE . I QUICKLY HAD TO GET OVER FOUR LANES TO THE SHOULDER . WHEN I DID, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT WAS A HARD START, ALMOST AS IF IT WERE GOING TO NOT START. TO GET .I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED AS BEST AS I COULD TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT~ WHO IN TURN ,OVER THE PHONE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS ELECTRICAL AND INFORMED ME MY WARRANTY WOULDN'T COVER IT, I SHOULD TAKE IT TO MY MECHANIC. I DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF AND HE TRIED TO FIX WHATEVER MAY HAVE CAUSED THE PROBLEM, COSTING US $500. MY HUSBAND PICKED IT UP AND WE TOOK IT OUT THAT NIGHT ~ IT HAPPENED FIVE MORE TIMES . THIS WAS SATURDAY NIGHT, MONDAY I TRIED TO CALL FORD AND TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS ON THE PHONE OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT 3-4 HOURS TRYING TO HAVE THIS HANDLED. FINALLY, I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC~NOT THE DEALERSHIP~ ABOUT THIS BEING SOMETHING I COULD LOOK UP, THAT OTHER OWNERS HAD THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE. FORD TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN ON WED, I HAD TO CALL FORD CORPORATE TO FIND OUT IF I WAS ENTITLED TO A RENTAL AND DID I HAVE TO PAY A $100 DEDUCTIBLE. IT WAS LIKE PULLING TEETH TO HAVE THIS HANDLED. ON WED WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO DROP IT OFF, AFTER MORE DISCONNECTED PHONE CALLS AND VOICEMAILS~ I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A DIRECTOR OR MANAGER. IN MIND EXPERIENCE HE WAS TREATING ME AS IF I WERE A CHILD AND I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM WITH THE FORD ESCAPES.AFTER TELLING HIM WHAT I FOUND OUT ONLINE I WAS TOLD "IF YOU READ ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET, THAT'S SIMPLY YOUR RESEARCH." I AM DISGUSTED WITH MY EXPERIENCE,MY TRUCK IS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. I DO NOT TRUST A COMPANY TO FIX SOMETHING THEY ARE PRETENDING DOESN'T EXIST. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED WITH THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED; HOWEVER THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE UPON APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
A FEW WEEKS AGO, MY ESCAPE WOULD SLOW DOWN AND OR STOP INTERMITTENTLY FOR NOW REASON. THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME 2 TIMES IN ONE WEEK AND BY TWO WEEK FROM THE FIRST DATE OF OCCURRENCE. IT HAD STARTED TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN AND OCCURRING THE LAST TIME 3 TIMES THAT DAY. I TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP (JACK MADDEN FORD) IN NORWOOD, MA. I WAS OUTSIDE OF MY WARRANTY SO I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ORIGINALLY BUT THEN I WAS CALLED LATER THAT DAY AND TOLD THAT I HAD A FAULTY THROTTLE DRIVE AND THAT IT WOULD BE REPLACED FOR FREE. I WAS NOT TOLD WHY IT WOULD BE REPLACED FOR FREE BUT THAT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHEN APPROACHING A STOP THROTTLE OPENED TO MAXIMUM. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP WAS PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 OTHER TIMES SINCE. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO FORD THEY SAID THAT SINCE IT WAS AN INTERMITTANT PROBLEM AND NO ONE ELSE HAS REPORTED IT THEY WOULD NO DO ANY REPAIRS.

ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE SURGED BACKWARD AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 200. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. I HAVE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM.
