PE-00-020 - TIRE SIZE P23575R15, DOT NUMBER NOT AVAILABLE. TIRES WERE REPLACED UNDER FIRESTONE RECALL, TIRES HAD LESS THEN 100 MILES ON THEM. WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH, RIGHT PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR TIRE SUDDENLY DEFLATED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING WHICH CAUSED DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL. TIRE WAS INSPECTED, AND WAS DETERMINED THAT TIRE WAS DEVELOPING CRACKS/STARTED TO SEPARATE AT SIDEWALL. TIRES WERE REPLACED AT ROCHESTER AUTO IN WEBSTER NEW YORK 716-787-1700. *AK *SLC
MY FORD HAS THE WILDERNESS AT P255/70R16 TIRES ON IT. AFTER DOWNLOADING YOUR DATABASE - I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND AFTER READING YOUR DATABASE, I COUNTED AT LEAST 100 INCIDENTS ON THAT REPORT INVOLVING THE P255/70R16 TIRES. ARE THEY GOING TO BE PUT ON THE ADVISORY PAGE? I JUST BOUGHT THIS TRUCK (USED) I THOUGHT IT WAS MY DREAM TRUCK AND I CAN NOT EVEN DRIVE IT. I CAN'T AFFORD NEW TIRES NOW - EVEN PRORATED. IS THEIR ANY AVENUE FOR ME? THE DOT # STARTS WITH A 'W2' SAME AS THE P235/70R16 ADVISORY, DOES THAT HELP ME OUT ANY? WILL THEIR BE AN UPDATE?
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE 280 FREEWAY IN SAN FRANCISCO TRAVELING AT 70 MPH. I NOTICED THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SWAY TO THE SIDE AND THE WHEEL OF THE VEHICLE WAS AGILE. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WALKED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS COMPLETELY TORN APART. I AM NOW CONCERNED BECAUSE OF THE RECENT RECALL OF THE FIRESTONE TIRES. HOWEVER, MY TIRES WERE NOT MANUFACTURED AT THE DECATUR( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
THE TIRES HAVE MULTIPLE STRESS CRACKS AROUND THE TREAD AREA ON ALL FOUR TIRES. I HAVE BEEN TO 2 FIRESTONE DEALERS AS WELL AS THE CAR DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT EVEN CHECK THEM. I WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS THE WRONG TIRE NUMBER, BUT MY TIRES LOOK UNSAFE. THIS TIRE HAS BEEN RECALLED IN OTHER COUNTRIES AND OTHER COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED REGARDING THIS TIRE. I HAVE CONTACTED MANY SOURCES AND WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE AT HIGH SPEEDS OR WHEN THE WEATHER IS HOT. THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION. PEO 020; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. LEFT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE HAD EXPLODED AND VEHICLE HIT A GUARDRAIL. VEHICLE STARTED TO SPIN AND LOST CONTROL. THE BACK SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS DEMOLISHED. *AK
I THOUGHT I SHOULD GIVE YOU MY INFORMATION TO ADD TO THE RECENT INVESTIGATION INTO FIRESTONE TIRES. MY FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRE MALFUNCTIONED, CAUDING MY FORD EXPLORER SPORT OT SPIN OUT OF CONTROL, HIT THE CURN ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET, AND FLIP OVER. ON JUNE 17, 1999 MY WIFE, INFANT DAUGHTER AND I WERE RETURNING FROM VACATION IN OUR 1999 FORD EXPLORER ENTERING ATLANTA, GA TRAVELING WEST ON I-20 MERGING INTO THE I-85 / I-75 CONNECTOR WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE. DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND LOSS OF CONTROL I HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A HALT ON THE INSIDE HOV LANE. I DID NOT HIT ANY DEBRIS ON THE ROAD AND IT WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE THAT THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT. THE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS WERE SO HAZARDOUS THAT IT TOOK AN ATLANTA, FULTON COUNTY POLICE OFFICER WITH SIREN, FLASHING LIGHTS AND HORN TO MOVE MY VEHICLE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO GET US CLEAR OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A GOODYEAR DEALERSHIP AND THE MANAGER CONFIRMED THAT THE TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT FROM THE INSIDE. I TOOK THE TIRE TO THE FIRESTONE DEALER AND THE MANAGER INSISTED THAT WE HAD HIT SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. I MADE IT CLEAR THAT WE HAD NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD AND THAT I WOULD TAKE THE MATTER UP WITH THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND MY ATTORNEY. WITH THAT STATEMENT THE MANAGER AGREED TO REPLACE THE TIRE FREE OF CHARGE. I BECAME SUSPICIOUS WITH THAT QUICK TURN AROUND AND CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY DENIED ANY KNOWLEDGE OF ISSUES WITH FIRESTONE TIRES. I AM INCENSED THAT FIRESTONE AND FORD KNOWINGLY JEOPARDIZED MY FAMILY BY REPLACING THIS DEFECTIVE TIRE WITH ANOTHER FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRE. I HAVE AGAIN CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AFTER THE RECENT PRESS RELEASE ABOUT FIRESTONE'S ISSUES WITH WILDERNESS TIRES ON FORD EXPLORERS AND ONCE AGAIN THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD DO NOTHING UNTIL THEY RECALLED THE TIRES. I'M NOT SURE WHICH WAY TO TURN ON THIS ISSUE AND I AM SEEKING YOUR ADVICE ON HOW TO GET THIS ISSUE ADDRESSED. I DO NOT WANT THESE TIRES ON MY EXPLORER. TIRE BLEW WHEN TURNING TO PARALLEL PARK - REPLACED WITH SAME. SINCE ABOUT 10,000 MILES, THE OTHER 3 OE TIRES ON VEHICLE HAVE SHOWN "PEELING" RUBBER ON THE SIDEWALLS TO WHERE THE WHITE INNER BELTS ARE SHOWING THROUGH IN SMALL AREAS. I HAD THOUGHT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR IN THE SOUTH (I RECENTLY MOVED HERE FROM MICHIGAN) UNTIL I STARTED HEARING AND READING IN THE LAST FEW DAYS ABOUT THE INHERENT PROBLEMS WITH THESE PARTICULAR TIRES. I AM NOW EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL DANGER OF DRIVING MY EXPLORER WITH THESE TIRES. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. I JUST HEARD ON THE RADIO OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. ABOUT SIX WEEKS AGO I HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE FREEWAY WHICH RESULTED IN A DAMAGED RIM AND A REPLACEMENT OF A TIRE. AT THE TIME I ASKED REPAIRMAN IF IT COULD BE A DEFECT AND HE WASN'T SURE. I ASKED HOW LONG THE TIRES SHOULD LAST, HE SAID 60K MILES. I ONLY HAVE 40K MILES, WITH STILL AN OKAY TREAD.
