I HAD THE TRUCK ON A LIFT TO CHECK FOR A NOISE FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE. I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP WAS RUSTED THRU AND THE TANK WAS LOOSE. HAD TO MAKE A TEMPORARY REPAIR. I CHECKED THE VIN ON THE FORD WEBSITE AND THE INFORMATION WAS THERE WAS NO RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO LEAK. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING) AND CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS ADVISED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE FUEL TANK UNLESS IT WAS COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE FRONT STRAPS FRACTURED FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT SECURED THE FUEL TANK TO THE VEHICLE WITH ROPE AND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL TANK CAUSED A BRAKE LINE TO FRACTURE AS WELL. THE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE TWO FRONT STRAPS TO THE FUEL TANK AND THE BRAKE LINE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH AND EVEN A FIRE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY: MOUNTING). THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE BUT SHORTLY AFTER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A FAILURE IN WHICH FUEL WOULD LEAK WHEN REFUELING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE AND THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR THE FUEL TUBING AND THE FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THAT UNLESS THEY SAW THE LEAK FROM THE STRAPS THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250,000. UPDATED 11/03/11. *JB UPDATED 11/14/11 *BF THERE WAS A SLIGHT LEAK NOTICED AT FUELING AND THE CONTACT NOTICED ONE OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS HAD BROKEN OFF AND THE FUEL TANK WAS TILTED DOWN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL TANK STRAPS TO THE VEHICLE. BUT, IMMEDIATELY AFTER, FUEL BEGAN TO SPRAY ONTO THE GROUND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REFUEL. THE DEALER EXPLAINED IT WAS CLEARLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE REPAIRS AS IDENTIFIED BY THE RECALL HOTLINE AND THAN MANY CUSTOMERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THE HOTLINE APPROVED THE REPAIRS AND TANK REPLACEMENT FOR SOME AND THEN ARBITRARILY NOT FOR OTHERS. THE RECALL HOTLINE REFUSED TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS OTHER THAN THE FUEL TANK STRAP REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE RECALL REFUSAL, HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT UNLESS THEY SAW THE LEAK FROM THE STRAPS THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. UPDATED 01.23.12

AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED FUEL DRIPPING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 1 GALLON OF FUEL HAD SPILLED. THE FUEL TANK STRAP WAS CORRODED AND HAD CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. MOST RECENTLY, THERE WAS A RECALL PERTAINING TO THE SIMILAR DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY: MOUNTING). THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION TO VERIFY WHETHER THE RECALL REMEDY SHOULD BE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THERE HAD NOT BEEN A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE STRAPS THAT HELD THE FUEL TANK WAS RUSTED AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE AND GAS TANK DROPPED ONTO SKID PLATE AND WORE A HOLE INTO THE GAS TANK CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK. TOOK THE TRUCK TO A FORD DEALER IN TOWN AND THEY RAN THE VIN NUMBER AND SAID IT WAS COVERED. FOUR WEEKS LATER WAS TOLD THAT FORD DECLINED TO FIX BECAUSE THE TRUCK HAD A SKID PLATE. UPON HEARING OF GAS TANK STRAP RECALL FOR MY FORD PICKUP I DECIDED TO TAKE A QUICK LOOK AT MINE TO SEE IF EITHER ONE WAS CRACKED. ONCE UNDER THE TRUCK I SMELLED GAS. A LEAK APPEARS TO BE ORIGINATING FROM AROUND THE INNERMOST STRAP. WILL FORD REPAIR THE LEAKING GAS TANKS WITH THE RECALL? *TR
