TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150 SUPER CREW. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND ADVISED THAT THE MODULAR OF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 248,000. ...UPDATE 01/20/12 *BF

THE FIRE WAS ON THE DRIVERSIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AFTER LOOKING AT THE TRUCK THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SUGGESTED CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOMETHING. I FOUND THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FIRE HAD ORIGINATED FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER WAS WAITING FOR THE MANUFACTURER AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO COMMUNICATE IN ORDER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.

I HAD NOTICED A SLIGHT RESTRICTION IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD. ON THE DATE ABOVE, I PRESSED DOWN ON THE PEDDLE. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE PEDDLE IT STAYED DOWN AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING RAPIDLY. TO GAIN CONTROL I TURNED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AND TURNED OFF THE KEY TO SLOW TO A STOP. I REMOVED THE PLASTIC COVER THAT ENCLOSES THE THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS SECURELY IN PLACE. WHEN I TOOK THE COVER OFF THE THROTTLE SNAPPED CLOSED. IT NOW OPERATES NORMALLY WITH THE THROTTLE BODY COVER REMOVED. ALL PARTS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AND EXHIBIT NO WEAR. *TR

ON TWO OCCASIONS, MY 2001 FORD F150 (5.4 ENGINE, AUTO, 4WD) HAS HAD THE THROTTLE ACCELERATOR "STICK" DURING ACCELERATION. THE FIRST OCCASION OCCURRED IN FEBRUARY 2010, AND THE SECOND OCCURRED MAY 28, 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 10:45 AM CST. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, I WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO PUMP THE BRAKES AND ALSO THE ACCELERATOR, WHEN THESE ACTIONS DID NOT RESPOND TO THE PROBLEM, I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED OF THE IGNITION, AND PULLED OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, THE SAME ATTEMPT WAS MADE, PUMPING THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL; AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS AND MANY DEPRESSIONS OF THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR, I MADE ONE FINAL, VERY FAST DEPRESSION OF THE BRAKE, WHICH RESULTED IN A NOTICEABLE "CLUNK" SOUND AND ACCOMPANYING JARRING SENSATION, SIMILAR TO SOMETHING DISENGAGING. AFTER THIS, THE TRUCK RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS. NO "CHECK ENGINE" INDICATION WAS NOTED BEFORE OR AFTER EITHER OF THESE OCCASIONS OF "STUCK" ACCELERATOR. MY 2001 F150 THROTTLE SPEEDS UP INTERMITTENTLY. NEVER SURE WHEN IT WILL DO IT OR HOW HIGH IT WILL GO. THE HIGHEST RECORD SO FAR IS ABOUT 2600 RPM. I NORMALLY PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, PULL TO THE SIDE, TURN OFF AND RESTART THE TRUCK AND ALL WORKS WELL AGAIN. FORD GARAGE HAS LOOKED AT IT AND STATED (NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNTIL IT CODES OR DOES IT IN THEIR PRESENCE) . I STILL HAVE TO DRIVE IT BUT I DO NOT LEND IT OUT TO ANYONE. ON OCTOBER 7TH MY FORD F-150 STARTED ON FIRE AND BURNED UNDER THE HOOD. I HAD TAKEN MY TRUCK FROM ONE SIDE OF TOWN TO THE OTHER ABOUT 12 MILES. I PARKED AND STARTED TO UNLOAD SOME TOOLS OUT OF IT AND WENT INSIDE. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES THE MAN I WAS TALKING TO SAID WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOUR TRUCK IT IS SMOKING. I RAN OUT TO THE TRUCK AND SMOKE WAS BILLOWING OUT OF THE HOOD UP THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDES. I POP THE HOOD AND FLAMES SHOT OUT ABOUT 4 FOOT UP FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND A BUCKET OF WATER FROM NEARBY, JUST PLAIN LUCK. I HAD CONTACTED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AS THE FIRE WAS BURNING AND THEY CAME OUT TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER CAME THE NEXT DAY AND SAID THIS LOOKS LIKE A FORD FIRE SO THAT BRINGS ME HERE. I NEED TO START A COMPLAINT AND FIND OUT WHERE I FIND A PERSON TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THIS FIRE. *TR

ON SAT MARCH 7, 2009 T APROX 12:30 AM MY 2001 FORD F-150 PICK UP BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. IT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE FIRE CAUGHT MY HOME ON FIRE. MYSELF AND MY 8 YEAR OLD SON AS WELL AS OUR 4 DOGS WERE IN THE HOUSE SLEEPING. LUCKILY I HEARD AN EXPLOSION AND WOKE UP AND GOT MY SON AND PETS OUT OF THE HOUSE SAFELY. THE HOUSE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND WILL HAVE TO BE REBUILT. THE TRUCK WA TOTALLY BURNED UP. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CAUSING FIRES. UNFORTUNATELY I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. *TR

ON 7/10/09 (FRIDAY) MY FORD 2001 F150 SUPERCREW WAS PARKED AT MY RESIDENTS AROUND 7:30PM. ABOUT 30 MINS. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, SMOKE BEGAN TO COME OUT OF THE HOOD, DRIVERS SIDE. IT SMOKED FOR ABOUT 5-10 MINS. I LIFT THE HOOD AND SAW THE WIRES AND CONNECTION PLUG TO THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS STILL SMOLDLERING. AFTER IT COLD DOWN I DISCONNECTED THE PLUG FROM THE SWITCH (THE TOTAL DAMAGE AT THIS TIME SEEMS TO BE THE FAULTY SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH, THE SWITCH CONNECTION PLUG AND SOME WIRES LEADING UP TO THE PLUG). ON 7/13/09(MONDAY)I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO INSPECT AND REPAIR THE DAMAGE.I ALSO PLACED A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE CO..ALONG WITH CALLING THE NEARS FORD DEALER(ABOUT 50 MILES AWAY) AND GOT A "WILL CALL YOU BACK" ANSWER, ALSO THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO HAVE DISCONNECTED THE SWITCH THREE YEARS PRIOR WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE IN TO THEM FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ( I WAS SENT A NOTICE OF RECALL FROM FORD MOTOR CORP. ALONG WITH THE DEALERS COMPUTER FLAGGING IT TOO FOR THIS PROBLEM), I ALSO CALLED FORD'S 800 CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE AND FILED A REPORT WITH THEM (THEY SAID I DID NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SINCE I HAD ALREADY FILED A INSURANCE CLAIM AND HAD IT ALREADY TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. AS OF 5:00 PM PST, ON 7/13/09 I AM WAITING FOR MY INSURANCE AGENT TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND AUTHORIZE REPAIR. I AM HAVING THE REPAIR SHOP SAVE THE OLD PARTS. *TR
