THE SPARE TIRE WAS NOTICED TO BE MISSING AND THE REAR BUMPER WAS FOUND TO HAVE EXTREMELY WEAK MOUNTING. UPON INSPECTION THE ENTIRE REAR SECTION OF THE FRAME HAD SEVERE RUST THRU. THE BELL SHAPED PIECE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE TRUCK HAD RUSTED AND COLLAPSED. THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM THE VEHICLE AT AN UNKNOWN DATE AND SPEED. THE CROSS MEMBER HOLDING UP THE FUEL TAKE WAS EXTREMELY RUSTED, AND WOULD HAVE FAILED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE FRAME AT THE REAR BUMPER MOUNTING LOCATION WAS RUSTED AND WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE REAR BUMPER TO DETACH FROM VEHICLE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE RIGHT SIDE SHOCK MOUNT WAS RUSTED COMPLETELY OFF. THE SPARE TIRE HAD FALLEN, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, AND THE GAS TANK AND REAR BUMPER WERE CLOSE TO FALLING OFF, WHICH WOULD HAVE ALSO CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND DETECTED THAT THE REAR PORTION OF THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THE REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE SHACKLES AND BRACKETS WERE FRACTURED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. MOST RECENTLY, THE REAR BUMPER PARTIALLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS TEMPORARILY SECURED WITH ROPE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. 1999 FORD RANGER XLT FRAME ROT AND RUST IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. ALL MUST ALL OF THE RANGERS I HAVE SEEN IN CLOUDING MINE ARE GONE IN THE SAME PLACE AND NEED REPAIR. *TR
1999 FORD RANGER XLT 4WD,VIN [XXX], FRAME RUSTED ALMOST IN HALF ON THE LEFT REAR, JUST AHEAD OF REAR AXLE. LARGE PORTION OF OUTSIDE FRAME RAIL IS MISSING. REAR SPRING SHACKLES REPLACE 1 YEAR AGO. TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHERWISE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SEVERE RUST ON THE REAR PORTION OF FRAME, WHICH RENDERS THE TRUCK USELESS. ANY HELP WITH THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'VE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND IT TO BE VERY COMMONPLACE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. I CANNOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. I HAVE A 1999 FORD RANGER 4 WHEEL DRIVE. THE FRAME BROKE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAD THE FRAME REPAIRED BY A GARAGE LOCALLY, AND THEN IT BROKE AGAIN IN A DIFFERENT PLACE 2 MORE TIMES. THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN GOOD SHAPE BUT THE FRAME IS ROTTING OUT AND I CANNOT SELL THE TRUCK IN THE CONDITION ITS IN. *TR

1999 FORD RANGER 95,000 MILES WOULD NOT PASS PA. STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE SEVERE FRAME ROT AT REAR SPRING HANGERS AND FRAME CROSSMEMBER ROT ABOVE REAR OF GAS TANK AND CROSSMEMBER ROT AT REAR OF FRAME. CROSSMEMBER ABOVE TANK AS REPLACED WITH A USED ONE BECAUSE FORD DOES NOT SELL NEW ONES. THE REST OF THE FRAME ROT WAS PLATED AND WELDED. THE TRUCK WILL NEED MORE FRAME ROT REPAIR FOR NEXT STATE INSPECTION. FORD SHOULD BUY THESE TRUCKS BACK LIKE TOYOTA DID. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE WOULD HEAR LOUD NOISES FROM THE REAR OF HIS VEHICLE. HE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO FRACTURE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR REPAIRED. I HAVE A 1999 FORD RANGER 4 DR. SUPER CAB. IF YOU LOOK AT THIS TRUCK ON THE EXTERIOR/INTERIOR YOU WOULD THINK IT WAS 3-4 YEARS OLD!! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, YOU KNOW THIS TRUCK IS CARED FOR EXTREMELY WELL!! HOWEVER PUT IT UP ON A LIFT AND YOU WOULD SWEAR IT WAS SITTING IN A SALT FIELD FOR 20 YEARS!! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! ALL CROSS MEMBERS ARE COMPLETELY DE-TACHED FROM FRAME, TANK STRAPS ARE GONE, THE ONLY THING HOLDING UP MY GAS TANK IS THE SKID PLATE! THE SPARE TIRE HANGER AND C-MEMBER IS ROTTED COMPLETELY, AND THE REAR C-MEMBER IS ALMOST ROTTED. WAS TOLD BY MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC , THE ONLY THING HOLDING FRAME TOGETHER IS THE BUMPER!! ROCKER PANELS ARE IN GREAT COND., BODY IS WONDERFUL!!. THIS IS CRAZY, HOW CAN FORD DO THIS AND GET AWAY WITH THIS?? TOYOTA STOOD UP AS A COMPANY AND TOOK CARE OF THERE RESPONSIBILITIES!! GUESS THAT JUST SHOWS WHO CARES ABOUT STANDING BEHIND THERE CONSUMERS.THIS IS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING TO KNOW YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL VEHICLE THAT RUNS TOP-NOTCH, THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY ADORE AND YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD YOU PROBABLY CAN'T DRIVE IT ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF PREMATURE ROTTED OUT FRAME!! WHAT DID FORD USED TO DO IN THE PAST WITH THERE FRAMES?? WELL ,, FIGURE IT OUT AND DO IT AGAIN!! THAT'S NOT ALL YOU CAN'T ORDER THE C-MEMBERS FROM FORD! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! DON'T BUILD IT RIGHT, THEN SCREW YOU ON REPLACEMENT PARTS! I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD STEP AND FIX THESE FRAMES THE WAY A COMPANY SHOULD FULFILL THERE RESPONSIBILITIES! IF TOYOTA CAN DO IT SO CAN WE ON THIS SIDE OF THE OCEAN!! TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER. WHILE EXAMINING THE VEHICLE SHE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF RUST ON THE FRAME UNDERNEATH THE FRONT END. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
1999 FORD RANGER, FRAME RUSTED SO BAD THAT MY MECHANIC SAYS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND WILL NOT WORK ON IT. I HAVE WELDED THE FRAME IN TWO PLACES. WHAT IS UPSETTING IS THAT THERE IS NO RUST HOLES IN THE BED OR BODY. THE FRAME SHOULD NOT BE DISINTEGRATING BEFORE OTHER PARTS RUST. *TR

UPON EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THE FRAME UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND THAT THE RUSTING WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE SALTING OF THE ROADS DURING THE WINTER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 68,800
NO ACCIDENT. I HAVE A 1999 FORD RANGER THAT WAS MAKING STRANGE NOISES FROM THE BED. MY HUSBAND AND BROTHER-IN-LAW INVESTIGATED AND ONE JUMPED ON THE BED WHILE THE OTHER LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK. HE NOTICED THAT THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH ON ONE SIDE AND ALMOST ALL THE WAY THROUGH ON THE OTHER SIDE. THAT WAS TWO YEARS AGO AND THE TRUCK REMAINS PARKED IN THE SIDE YARD. *TR
1. NORMAL DRIVING. THE REAR OF THE FRAME FROM BEFORE THE REAR SHACKLE TO THE BUMPER IS ROTTED. 2. THE FRAME IS ROTTED AND NOW IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS BEING COMPROMISED. 3. I HAVE HAD THE FRAME REPAIRED AT A SHOP, THE REST OF THE BODY HAS NO RUST ON IT AT ALL, THE ENGINE RUNS GREAT, INTERIOR HAS HELD UP NICE, BUT THE FRAME ROTTED OUT. *TR
FRAME ROT. HAD TO PUT NEW SPRING SHACKLES IN. FOUND THE FRAME ROTTED OUT AT AND AROUND SPARE TIRE. THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND NOT KNOWING THIS PRIOR TO BUYING IT COULD HAVE SAVED ME ALOT OF MONEY AND GRIEF. *TR
THE FRAME OF THE 1999 FORD RANGER XLT HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT OF BEING UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FRAME HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE REAR SUSPENSION ATTACHMENT POINTS ARE IRREPAIRABLY (SP) DETERIORATED. THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER IS RUSTED TO THE POINT OF HAVING LOST ALL MECHANICAL STRENGTH AND MAY BREAK CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, OR THE ENGINE/TRANS MAY DROP AND CAUSE THE SHIFT LINKAGE AND OR THE ACCELERATOR TO MOVE WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT. *TR
WE HAVE A 99 FORD RANGER BOUGHT BRAND NEW. IT IS IN MINT CONDITION AND HAS ONLY APPROX. 80,000 MILES ON IT. WE JUST NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS CRACKED AND READY TO SPLIT IN HALF. WE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO., THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT THAT THE WARRANTY WAS OVER. THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS A DEFECTIVE FRAME AND IF, IT WAS NOT NOTICED, WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE MAY BE MORE VEHICLES OUT THERE THAT COULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, BUT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN IF IT WASN'T NOTICED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER ELECTRIC. WHILE DECELERATING TO 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE AND THE VEHICLE JERKED SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE METAL FRAME ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DETERIORATED. AS A RESULT, THE BUMPER HANGS DOWN FROM THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION; HOWEVER NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WA SPARKED THE PASSENGER SIDE OF REAR BUMPER WAS HANGING DOWN BECAUSE THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRAME WAS RUSTED. HOWEVER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRAME AND THE VEHICLE'S BODY WERE NOT RUSTED. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER COULD NOT FIND TIME TO VIEW THE VEHICLE, BUT OFFERED $1000 OF THE $3500 REPAIR COST IF REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP. CONTACT REJECTED IT CLAIMING IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. *AK
WHEN IT RAINS GALLONS OF WATER COMES THROUGH THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR, THOUGH THE DASHBOARD, DOWN THE FLOOR BOARD. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FIRE. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. *AK NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *SC *JB
THE DRIVER'S DOOR NEVER CLOSED PROPERLY. *JB
I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OF THE 2001 FORD RANGER FOR THE VERY SAME PROBLEM MY TRUCK SEEME TO HAVE. NHTSA#:00V394000. I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE HOOD SNAPPED OPEN. I COULD HAVE VERY EASILY BEEN IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION WHEN MY ENTIRE VIEW WAS BLOCKED WITH THE HOOD. I HAVE TAKEN SOME PICTURES OF THE HOOD AREA IF THEY ARE NEEDED. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT ONE OF THE SCREWS CAME LOOSE AT SOME POINT IN TIME AND WITH THE VIBRATION. THE WIRE FORMED HOOD STRIKER SNAPPED FROM METAL FATIGUE. ANYWAY THIS WHOLE ORDEAL IS COSTING ME ABOUT $1300 NOT MENTIONED THAT I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. MR
