02 RANGER 4X4. FORD IS USING JUCKY VALVE BODY ON THERE AUTO TRANSMISSION!!! THIS PROBLEM MAKE THE TRANSMISSION SLIP & SLOW SHIFT. ON THE RANGER STATION THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM ON RANGER& A BIG ONE ON EXPLORER. *JB
ROUGH OR DELAYED SHIFT 2ND TO 3RD, 3RD TO 4TH. BEEN TO DEALER AND CHARGED 800.00 FOR UPDATED VALVE BODY. NO BETTER. INDEPENDENT SHOP SHOWED ME A SEAL THAT FAILS ON MANY RANGERS CAUSING SAME PROBLEM. VIBRATION AT 65-70 AND GRINDING SOUND WHEN ACCELERATING HARD FROM STOP. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE DEALER DETERMINED THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL COULD BE CHANGED AT A CHARGE. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THIS WAS A DEFECT. UPDATED 11/30/2006 - WHILE DRIVING THE REAR OF THE TRUCK SHOOK PROFUSELY. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY DETERMINED THAT THE REAR AXLES WERE CRACKED AND THE ENTIRE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO ADMITTED THERE WAS A RECALL BUT STATED THAT IT HAD EXPIRED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP EXPLAINED THAT THE RECALL HADN'T EXPIRED IT JUST DIDN'T EXIST FOR THE CONSUMER'S RANGER. THE SERVICE REP WHEN ON TO TELL THE CONSUMER THAT THE RECALL WAS FIR 2002 RANGER 4X4 WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. *NM
AUTO TRANSMISSION ON 2002 FORD RANGER EDGE WITH 43000 MILES FAILED DUE TO TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE. VEHICLE NOT USED FOR TOWING OR HAULING. REQUIRED COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF TRANSMISSION. *NM
2002 FORD RANGER STALLED. *BF THE DRIVE SHAFT JERKED AND SLAMMED WHEN ACCELERATING IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED BUT THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *NM
CORRECTION TO MY ORIGINAL COPMPLAINT MY 2002 RANGER REAR TIRES GOT STUCK IN A LIL SNOW ON THE STREET AND AS THEY HIT PAVMENT WHILE MOVING FOWARD I HEARD A POP FROM THE REAR THEN HEARD A FEW MORE WHILE TURNING CORNERS AND HAD A REAR END LOCK UP. TOOK TO DEALER ON FLAT BED AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER HAD SNAPPED (REAR AXLE HOUSING) AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. REAR AXLE HOUSINGS DO NOT BREAK LIKE THIS AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2002 FX4 MANUAL TRANS RANGERS FOR THIS SAME REASON AND FEEL THE AUTOS NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR HURT. CONSEQUENCE IS REAR END LOCKUP.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE GOT STUCK IN THE SNOW. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE SNOW WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN A LOUD POP NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE REAR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO MOVE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR CHECK UP, AND RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
NHTSA CAMPAIGN 02V035000; FORD ISSUED AN REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE RECALL. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT HAS A BENT AXLE IN WHICH IT COULD BREAK. THE VIN IS OUTSIDE THE REMEDY SCOPE. *NM *NM
(1) GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT TRANSFER CASE ON 4X4 DRIVETRAIN, NOTICEABLE AT 30 TO 40 MPH..PRECENT AT ALL SPEEDS MORE APPARENT AT SPEEDS DESCRIBED, AT HIGH SPEEDS 40 TO 80MPH GRINDING NOISE MASKED BY WIND/ROAD NOISE. NOISE STARTED AT UNDER 20000 MILES ON VEHICLE, VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 27K MILES AND GRINDING/NOISE IS MORE PRONOUNCED. (2) NO APPARENT COMPONENT FAILURE YET, SEVERAL RANGER 4X4 OWNERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM.(MEMBER OF A RANGER FORUM OF 1000+ MEMBERS). WILL IT CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF FRONT DRIVE LINE COMPONENTS LEADING TO CRASH AND OR DEATH? (3) DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, ONLY WAY TO CORRECT IT IS TO USE HARDER TIRES; DEALER WILL NOT RECOMMEND GOODYEARS WHICH IS WHAT IS INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY. *AK
CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE. GEAR INDICATOR STUCK IN DRIVE, EVEN IF VEHICLE IS IN PARKED. PRELIMINARY FORD INSPECTION REVEALED 3D GEAR FAILURE.*AK
TRANSMISSION IN 2002 FORD RANGER IS A PIECE OF JUNK,MY TRANSMISSION HAS DONE IT ALL,FAILED COMPLETLY WITH ONLY 12,000 MILES,THEN THE DEALER GETS IT AND THE PARTS CHANGERS,NOT MECHANICS DON'T CHANGE ENOUGH PARTS(LEFT TORQUE CONVERTER FULL OF GARBAGE) I WAS A FORD MAN FOR YEARS NOW I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER PIECE OF FORD JUNK!!!!!*AK
SLIGHT JERKING COMING FROM DRIVE TRAIN WHEN LIGHTLY ACCELERATING AND BRAKING. DEALER REPLACED DRIVESHAFT IN AUG. 2002, PROBLEM WENT AWAY TEMPORARILY, CAME BACK AND RETURNED TO DEALER. WAS TOLD THERE IS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE. CALLED FORD MOTOR TO COMPLAIN AND GOT NO SATISFACTION.*AK
CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER FAILED ON A 16 MONTH OLD FORD RANGER 5 SPEED, 4 CYLINDER. *JB
THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING LEAKED FLUID. A RECALL WAS ISSUED, HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION IN A 2002 FORD EDGE RANGER. THIS TRANSMISSION WENT BAD WITH NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM UNTIL THE DAY OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD 51000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF FAILURE AND THE TRUCK WAS MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURERS SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER WHERE THE REPAIR/ REPLACEMENT WAS MADE, THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD BEEN SEIZING FOR SOME TIME THROWING SHRAPNEL INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ENTIRE UNIT NEEDED REPLACING.*AK
I TOOK MY 1 YEAR AND 2 MONTH OLD RANGER TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CORRECT A PROBLEM I HAD BEEN HAVING WITH IT NOT GOING INTO GEAR. THE CONDESCENDING MAN AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME AFTER A 5 MINUTE LOOK AT MY TRUCK THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE MY CLUTCH REPLACED, AND THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 MONTHS. IN CALLING AROUND TO GET PRICES ON THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CLUTCH, I WAS ALMOST UNANIMOUSLY TOLD THAT IT WAS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A CLUTCH GO OUT IN A VEHICLE IN THAT SHORT OF A TIME PERIOD, WHEN IT HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED, WHICH MINE HAS NOT. IN RESEARCHING THIS, I HAVE FOUND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE CLUTCH ON THE 2002 FORD RANGER 3.0. *JB
WHILE SHIFTING AND DECELERATING THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE. THE DEALER DENIED ANY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. *NLM
THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED WHILE DRIVING. CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS VERY LOW. I BROUGHT THE FLUID LEVEL TO NORMAL LEVELS, AND NOTICED THAT IT LEAKS TRANSMISSION FLUID VERY BADLY.
CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, LIFTER FEET OFF OF BRAKE, VEHICLE DRIFTED BACKWARD, WITH VEHICLE IN DRIVE GEAR. CONTACTED DEALER. TS
AT 55 TO 60 MPH VEHICLE JERKS AND LUNGES. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER,AND THEY STATED THIS WAS NORMAL. *AK CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE. *YH
A GRINDING NOISE WOULD COME FROM TRANSMISSION WHEN GEAR CHANGES FROM 1ST TO 2ND, AND SEVERE VIBRATION WOULD OCCUR WHEN DRIVING 65 -70 MPH. VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AND NO CORRECTION COULD BE FOUND AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
RECALL 02V035000; WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE CONSUMER NOTICED A LOW HUM COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. HUM STARTS TO GET LOUDER. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, DEALER STATED REAR END WAS BAD. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
DEALER PRESENTED VEHICLE AS REPAIRED 12-22-1 (REPLACED SLAVE CYLINDER FOR CLUTCH). WAS STILL NOT DISENGAGING. STILL AT WILLEY FORD.
THE CLUTCH FAILED WITH LESS THAN 100 MILES, WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. TOWED TO DEALER. *YD
