SINCE 2006 THE CAR HAS BEEN STALLING (RPM'S DROP TO ZERO AND CAR TURNS OFF) STARTED BY STALLING WHILE ON THE FREEWAY BUT WOULD START RIGHT BACK UP WITHIN SECONDS WOULD HAPPEN ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS. RECENTLY, THE PROBLEM HAS ACCURED EVERYDAY SOME TIME 3 TIMES A DAY. I COULD BE AT A COMPLETE STOP OR ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CARS' RPM'S JUST DROP AND ALL THE LIGHTS BATTERY LIGHT, OIL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, DOOR AND TRUCK LIGHT TURNS ON BUT THE RADIO AND A/C STAY ON. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN RUN OVER BY OTHER MOTORIST TRYING TO PUSH THE CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC. I CONTACTED HONDA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY CAR AND TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE THE IGNITION SWITCH. SO I IMMEDIATELY CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE NEXT DAY THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. I CALLED HONDA THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TUMBLER FOR THE KEY HAD BEEN RECALLED AND WAS REPLACED BACK IN 2003. I BOUGHT A NEW KEY AS THE OLD KEY WAS WORN AND THE CAR DID NOT STALL FOR OVER 2 MONTHS BUT YESTEDAY CAR STALLED OVER 3 TIMES. I HAVE HAD A DIAGNOSITIC DONE WHICH SAID IT IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH MY MECHANIC SAYS IS TOTALLY UNREALATED TO THE STALLING PROBLEM. BUT I PLAN TO HAVE A NEW ONE INSTALLED SOON. I REALLY NEED TO GET THIS STALLING PROBLEM FIXED IMMEDIATELY AS THIS IS PROBLEM COULD CAUSE ME OR MY SON TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND BE INJURIED OR EVEN KILLED. AND BASED ON THE INTERNET FORUMS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH MY HONDA AND HONDA HEADQUARTERS DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THEY PLAN ON DOING ANY THING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND BEFORE THE CONTACT COULD TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, IT SHUT ITSELF OFF. LATER, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2002 FOR THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH COULD DEGRADE AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO HESITATE AND/OR CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ONCE, THEY WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS A SECOND TIME. THE VIN AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 109,000.
VEHICLE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PULLING INTO A 7/11 PARKING LOT. CALLED FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO ENGINE COMPARTMENT. INSURANCE DECLARED TOTAL LOSS. *TR
I TOOK MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AT 78,000 MILES WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO CODE IN THE COMPUTER AND MY GAS CAP WAS THE CULPRIT. THEY SAID THEY RESET COMPUTER AND ALL WAS GOOD WELL IF YOU RESET THE COMPUTER THIS MEANS YOU CLEARED ANY CODES WITCH OH BY THE WAY THERE WERE NOT ANY CODES RIGHT... LOW AND BEHOLD AT JUST AFTER 84000 MILES THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON ,AND THIS TIME THERE IS A CODE CAT AND O2 SENSOR NO GOOD 1,100.00 DOLLARS LATER IM SENT ON MY WAY. NOW AT 126,000 THE INFAMOUS P1457 CODE REARS ITS UGLY HEAD AND READ THAT HONDA MAY HAVE EXTENDED THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY TO 14 YEARS/130,000 MILES. IF THIS IS TRUE WHY WAS I CHARGED FOR CAT AND O2 SENSOR BACK AT 84,000 MILES???LETS JUST SAY IM NOT A VERY HAPPY HONDA CUSTOMER RIGHT NOW. *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD V-6 EGR EMISSION DEFECT, EGR PORTS CLOGGED WITH CARBON DEPOSITS, REFERENCE NHTSA #627312, TSB 99085, HONDA IS UNWILLING TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON JULY 5, 2007 AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ON JULY 7, 2007, WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF RETRIEVING HIS VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TWICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DRIVES NORMALLY AND THEN STALLS. HE PULLS THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNS IT OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, AND THEN RESTARTS THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES AND THEN FAILS AGAIN. THE FAILURE BEGAN SIX MONTHS AGO AND OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 197,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
FOUR YEARS AGO, I REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND I HAVE TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. BECAUSE HONDA HAS A REPUTATION OF PROVIDING THE HIGHEST QUALITY, I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THE CONVERTER KEEPS TEARING UP. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP REPAIR. *TR
THE BOLT HOLDING THE MAIN CRANK SHAFT PULLEY CAME LOOSE CAUSING ALL EXTERIOR BELTS TO COME OFF AS WELL AS THE INTERIOR TIMING BELT, SHEARED THE WOODRUFF KEY, AND WARPED PULLEY. THE ENGINE SHUT-OFF BECAUSE TIMING WAS NOW OFF ON ENGINE AND THE PISTONS CAME UP AND BENT SOME VALVES. NOW I AM OUT $3,000 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. PER MYCARSTATS.COM, THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS BOLT/ DESIGN ASSEMBLY CAME DEFECTIVE FROM MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY WORK RELATED TO THIS BOLT AND PULLEY. *NM
DEFECTIVE EGR VALVE ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW WHEN I PURCHASED IT AND IT ONLY HAS 96K MILES. I AM THE ONLY OWNER. IT BURNS OIL AND NO ONE CAN DETERMINE WHY. I JUST REPLACED 2 VALVES DUE TO THE OIL AND NOW MY EGR VALVE IS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. AFTER REVIEWING THE COMPLAINTS, THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE EGR VALVE FOR A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN. *NM

CONTINUOUS ENGINE CHECK LIGHT POINTING TO FAILURES IN THE EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM. MONETARY LOSS IS BECOMING UNACCEPTABLE. *JB
LARGE AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL FOUND IN ANTI-FREEZE RESEVOIR TANK. GARAGE SAID IT WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. CAR ONLY HAS 56,000 MILES ON IT. GARAGE SAID THEY'VE NEVER SEEN A HEAD GASKET BLOW WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC,. THEY PUT THE VEHICLE ON A MACHINE THAT INDICATED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BROKE . THE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. THE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME BACK ON AFTER THE FIRST REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. NO FURTHER REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE.*AK
ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 7, 2005, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I REFERRED TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AS WRITTEN. THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM SO I TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL HONDA REPAIR SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THEY INDICATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED AND THEY QUOTED ME $1100 TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS. I DO NOT HAVE THIS KIND OF MONEY LAYING AROUND. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THERE ARE 8 COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DOES IT TAKE BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED? NOT ONLY WILL I HAVE TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT, BUT I WILL BE POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT AT THE SAME TIME. DT: CONTACT STATES: THE CRANK PULLEY SEPARATED FROM THE CRANK. SHE HAS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE DEALER FIXED IT, BUT THEY DIDN'T SEEM TO THINK IT WAS SERIOUS . CONTACT FELT IT WAS SERIOUS. CRANK PULLEY BROKE WHILE CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO GARAGE. *AK
VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH THE EGR VALVE WHICH IS CLOGGED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUES TO KEEP FLASHING OFF/ON SINCE LAST SUMMER. DEALER INFORMED THE OWNER THAT THE EGR VALVE NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED, HOWEVER, A PRODUCT UPDATE HAS BEEN IMPOSED. THIS IS DIRECTED TO THOSE VEHICLE WHICH CAME WITH AN 80,000 MILES AND 8 YEAR WARRANTY. THIS VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 6 YEARS OLD, BUT HAS 95,000 MILES. *AK *SB *NM

LARGE AMOUNTS OF ENGINE OIL WERE OBSERVED IN THE COOLANT RESERVOIR. AT THE SAME TIME DECREASE OF THE ENGINE OIL WAS NOTED ON THE OIL INDICATOR STICK. SLIGHT DECREASE IN ACCELERATION WAS ALSO SEEN. THE CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED VERY WELL.*AK

ENGINE CHECK LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. BUT, DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
HONDA ACCORD 1999, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT INDICATES CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE, WHICH IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR CAUSED BY A DESIGN FLAW WHEREBY LEAN FUEL MIXTURES PRODUCE LOW EMMISSIONS, BUT ALSO BURN UP THE CATALYST BED. THE FAILURE IS SYSTEMIC AND HAPPENS BETWEEN 80,000 AND 130,000 MILES. MANY FAMILIES CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR AND SINCE IT IS NOT CRITICAL, IT WILL BE LEFT UNATTENDED, WHICH LEADS TO ENVIRONMENTAL DETERIORATION AND THE IMMEDIATE RISK OF DRIVING WITH THE WARNING LIGHT ALREADY ILLUMINATED.*AK
