On 11/18/2025, while driving my 2014 Honda Accord 2.4L (VIN: [XXX] ), I experienced a sudden and dangerous safety failure. Without any warning, the steering became extremely hard and almost locked, making it nearly impossible to turn or control the vehicle. At the same moment, several warning indicators appeared on the dashboard, including: ABS warning VSA warning Brake System warning Because of this failure, the vehicle became unsafe to operate, and I was forced to stop. I could not continue driving due to the risk of losing control of the car. When I checked the recall information online, the system showed that my VIN has an active recall notification, but when I took my vehicle to the dealership (Victory Honda of Plymouth), they informed me that my specific issue is not covered under that recall, even though the symptoms match known ABS/VSA safety failures. The dealership stated that they will not repair the ABS/VSA issue unless I pay out of pocket, despite the steering nearly locking and the vehicle becoming unsafe. Since this involves loss of steering control, it represents a major safety hazard that could lead to a crash. I am requesting an investigation and guidance on whether this failure should be considered a safety-related repair and whether my VIN should be reviewed for inclusion in the recall, given the severity of the incident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The steering sticks and the assisted steering goes on and off without warning making it dangerous driving. Almost caused a collision. Steering light comes on and off. It sounds like the recall of the steering issue found on other Honda accords for 2014 of other VINs.
Power steering goes out during driving. In order for power steering to work again, you must pull over, shut off the car and restart it. It has mostly happen while we have been driving on straight highways and roads and luckily it hasnt happened during any curvy roads or turns. This is one of our main cars we use to drive around town and travel with for adults and children. We took it in to mechanic shop and was told it may be the ABS sensor and they are ordering parts to replace it to see if that fixes the problem. The FCW, check engine, and sliding lights have been turning on and off.
Power Steering Failure on multiple occasions dating back to November of 2023. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the steering wheel would lock while car was in motion, at times while making a turn, preventing me from operating my vehicle safely. The problem has been confirmed by three independent service centers: Meineke, located at 9640 S Cicero Ave, Oak Lawn, IL; Reyes Auto Care, located at 9200 Kilpatrick Ave, Oak Lawn, IL; Highline Automotive, located at 11332 SW Hwy, Palos Hills, IL. Vehicle has been inspected by independent mechanics who all came to the conclusion of power steering issue, requiring system update or total replacement of gearbox and/or rack and pinion. Warning lights come on when issue starts. Has been ongoing since I acquired car in Nov of 2023
When I perform a parallel parking maneuver, I turn the steering wheel fully to the right or left and begin backing up slowly. As I reach the halfway point and attempt to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction, it becomes stiff and difficult to move, as if it’s frozen.
While driving on the road at about 45 MPH the power steering locked and the vehicle pulled off the road. The dealer ship stated is a known issue with faulty steering motors but the vehicle is not on a recall. This is hazardous and potentially deadly situation to be in.
While driving, the Electric Power Steering system stopped working and the EPS warning light came on. I had to forcefully steer the car to the shoulder with great difficulty and shut the car off. I sat on the shoulder for approximately 10 minutes, restarted the car, noted the steering appeared to be functioning properly and began to continue home only to have the same issue again within 2 minutes of pulling away from the shoulder of the road. I managed to forcibly steer the car back onto the shoulder of the road and called for a tow truck to take it to a shop and the family home. The ship advised there was no fault code found with their system tools and that the issue may be with the electronics on the car needing to be reviewed/updated/replaced by Honda. It is my understanding this is not an isolated incident and could have resulted in a major crash had I not utilized my training as a police officer and accident reconstruction s[pecialist with the PD to recognize the issue and manage to keep the car safely in control until safely stopped.
I have 2014 honda accord coupe. A days a go while driving local street my steering wheel lost control n vehicle stopped. On dash board it displayed sign with steering wheel n exclamation. When I reached thru honda manual it was the power steering torque sensor. This incident happened twice and both times as said in manual I turned off the car n it reseted itself. However I took it to my mechanic n he said that it's a power steering torque sensor failure. I read more online n there is a recall n extended Warrenty from Honda. Can you fix my car issue?
My vehicle is pulling and steering is getting hard and unable to control. I was driving my vehicle with my child when I steering wheel locked up and jerked the right almost causing me to side swipe another vehicle. This is a known issue with this year, make and model of Honda and it has not been recalled. Vehicle was inspected by a mechanic and deemed unsafe because of power steering failure
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the steering wheel was inoperable. The contact stated that the check engine warning light had been illuminated, and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence and parked. The contact stated that the warning lights remained illuminated and that the emergency brake appeared to be loose and made a clicking sound while enabled. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced at the dealer three weeks ago and it was diagnosed with a failed control module assembly. The control module assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 251,459.
Was driving on highway and without warning the power steering system locked up and i was going 60 mph and almost lost control of my car. Yellow steering wheel with exclamation point light up on my dash board!
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at various speeds, the steering wheel inadvertently jerked to the right and became firm. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact's daughter was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that his daughter turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the steering wheel operated as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure also occurred while at a complete stop at a traffic light. The contact's daughter turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the steering wheel operated as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring more frequently. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a fee would be charged for diagnostic test. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The mechanic related the failure to TSB Number: 15-055 and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Power steering system failed when starting the car. Steering wheel was jittery/jerky and was near impossible to turn it; it was very difficult to back it out of a parking space to get it towed. This happened once the service shop replaced a relay and the car was driven home without incident. However, the problem came back the next morning when we started the car again; it cannot be safely driven when the steering wheel starts acting up like this.
The power steering has gone out multiple times while driving down the road. It was replaced 20 days ago and less than 600 miles has been put on it and it went out again. My steering wheel locked up and I lost all control of the car. This put myself and others at risk because I have no use of the steering wheel when it goes out. The problem was reproduced and a new rack put on and in less than 600 miles it happened again. There were no warning signs or lights that appeared before it happened. They come on at the time the steering goes out.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction and nearly causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and drive into the opposite lane while oncoming traffic was approaching. The contact used an OBD reader and retrieved a code for the steering torque sensor. The contact was informed that the steering torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The failure mileage was 120,000.
In my 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid, the power steering light suddenly lit up while driving and the steering became stiff. It has been coming on and off for few months now. For 99% of the time the car runs normal, no issue, no dash light etc. I replaced the EPS unit at Honda dealer, it went away for a while, now it has come back again. It cam happen at any day of the week atleast 2 to 3 times a week. The steering goes stiff with light on, stays stiff for 30 seconds to sometimes over a minute on highway then it goes off on its own. It is a major safety risk on highway when suddenly the light comes on and steering goes stiff, it gets very hard to mauver or change lanes during this time until it goes off and returns to normal.
The power steering system of the car (68000 miles on odometer) abruptly stopped working while pulling away from the curb at the airport. Car was turned off and restarted; the steering warning light which had appeared went away. Steering worked well for a couple of weeks when it failed again while driving 60 MPH on the interstate. This was very scary and dangerous to myself and other motorists! Fortunately I was able to steer across lanes to right berm and stop. Car was restarted and taken to service location. The steering warning light was cleared and we were told to take the car to a Honda dealer. Honda dealer had car for over a week but could not get steering to 'act up'. For approximately the next 11 months, steering would randomly go off without warning. This happened in parking situations and also while turning on city roads. Eventually steering warning light could no longer be cleared by turning off motor and restarting. Honda dealer replaced entire steering rack and assembly for over $3500. Since steering system has been replaced, we have had no steering problems.
Driving normally , while the car is doing 30mph power steering light comes on and steering wheel locks and becomes hard to turn the wheel. Light will go off randomly and resume normal driving. Looks like it may be an electrical issue as I checked and this car is known for this problem. Last month, my driveshaft broke off and couldn't continue driving, this was a known recall and I went to get it fixed. I do not feel safe driving my car with this known problem and you all should request Honda to recall this issue.
When at low speeds especially when pulling into parking spot with wheel turned, wheel seems to stick, heat turns off and once parked, power steering makes squeaking noise. Has occurred multiple times. Realize there is already an investigation into this. Unsure what issue may be. Will likely take to Honda to ensure safe operation of vehicle.
Every time I start my Car the EPS light comes on and I have to use an unnecessary amount of strength to turn the wheel. I am unable to drive the car because I can't turn it far enough to turn. I went to the Honda Dealership and paid $1,000 to replace the control unit and the problem is still here. The EPS light reappeared while I was driving after Honda Claimed that they fixed the issue.
Replaced VSA modulator at 100k, drove for 7 months, steering locked up as I was driving down highway. I was able to control and took to dealership where they said VSA modulator needed to be replaced again. Additionally, starter went out at 168k. Not the quality we expect from Honda.
The power steering stops working and the display on the screen goes blank leaving you with no power steering momentarily to steer the vehicle. Putting the driver and other at risk because you don’t have full control of the vehicle. In my situation after the vehicle seems to shut off jerking the steering wheel in your hands then it restarts again on it own. I’m in the process of scheduling a appointment with a repair shop for diagnosis. I did not notice any warning lamps, not to say there weren’t any it’s that I didn’t notice them.
My car exhibited the identical problem described in TSB# 10152446. When I reported it to Honda, they said my vehicle doesn't qualify because the VIN # does not fall within the range of vehicles covered. This is a very obscure, specific and costly failure/repair. The fact that other identical vehicles (Make, year, and specific model) are covered suggests to me that the method used to determine which cars to cover was in error. What do I need to do to have this investigated?
The auto is hard to steer. I have not had an incident yet but it is increasingly hard to steer. I received a questionnaire a out this issue earlier this year. Auto steering was fine at that time. That is no longer the case.
Power steering randomly goes out while the vehicle is in motion, sometimes on the interstate at high speed. Honda has "fixed" this 4 times and still has issues. Turning the car off and back on temporarily resolves the issue.
