ENGINE IS OVERHEATING BECAUSE THERE IS A CRACK IN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING ON A CITY STREET.
HONDA HAS PRODUCED FAULTY ENGINE BLOCKS ON CIVIC MODELS FROM 2006-2009 THAT TEND TO CRACK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL ON A HIGHWAY AND LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. HONDA EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY FROM 7 TO 10 YEARS INSTEAD OF ISSUING A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THEY SOLD A FAULTY PRODUCT. ON TUESDAY, OCT 27TH 2020, DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE CAR TEMPERATURE GAUGE MAXED OUT AND SHAKING WAS FELT AS IF THE CAR WAS GOING TO STALL. LUCKILY, THIS OCCURRED COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND NEAR MY RESIDENCE AND NOT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE THE CAR COULD HAVE STALLED AND CAUSED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HONDA SERVICE CENTER THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED. THE ENGINE CRACKING WAS THE REASON THE CARS WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS BUT THE EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY TO MY VEHICLE HAS EXPIRED. HONDA HAS QUOTED ME $6,395.40 TO REPLACE A KNOWN FAULTY ENGINE BLOCK. I BELIEVE A FAULTY ENGINE BLOCK CREATES AN UNSAFE CONDITION TO ALL DRIVERS AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY HONDA BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED AT 99,000 MILES. COOLANT LEAKING.
MY HONDA CIVIC HAS COMPLETELY OVERHEATED THREE TIMES TO THE POINT OF NEEDING TO REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET, WATER PUMP, RADIATOR AND COILS. ONCE WAS IN 2014, AGAIN IN 2018 AND NOW IN 2020. IT IS NOW DISCOVERED THE CAUSE OF ALL THESE OVER HEATING PROBLEMS OVER THE YEARS WAS DUE TO A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK WHICH THERE WAS A 10 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE. I TOOK MY CIVIC INTO BRANDON HONDA IN FLORIDA ON MARCH 5TH, 2016 AND NOTHING WAS SAID OR DONE RELATING TO THE ISSUE OF THE CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK WHICH HONDA HAD BEEN FULLY AWARE OF SINCE AT LEAST 2014 WHERE IT WAS STATED ON CONSUMER REPORTS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TWICE, ONCE ON A HIGHWAY AND IT WAS DUE TO THE ENGINE OVER HEATING EVERY TIME; BOTH SITUATIONS PUT MYSELF AND VEHICLE IN DANGER. I MAINTAINED MY RADIATOR AS WELL AS WATER PUMP AND HAVE HAD THEM REPLACED EACH TIME SO CLEARLY THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM WAS THE CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK.
COOLANT LEAK BEHIND O2 SENSOR IN THE BLOCK OF R18. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 122,000 MILES SUPER LOW MILEAGE AND BELIEVED TO HAVE A LEAKING HEAD GASKET. *TR
MY AUNT, PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2007. SHE DIED IN 2015 AND OUR MOTHER PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE ESTATE. AFTER THE PURCHASE WE SAW THE RE-CALL AND 10 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE CAR BECAUSE OF "ENGINE BLOCK CRACKING". WE TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER WHO SAID THAT SINCE THERE WAS NO COOLANT LEAKING, THERE WAS NO CRACK IN THE BLOCK AND HE COULD NOT FIX A CAR THAT WAS NOT IN NEED OF REPAIR. THE CARE HAD 70,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. MY MOM DIED THIS FEBRUARY AND WE AGAIN PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE ESTATE. IT HAD 75,000 MILES ON IT. LAST WEEK, THE ENGINE BLOCK STARTED LEAKING AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN ENGINE BLOCK CRACK, AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT HAD EXCEEDED THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR ONLY HAD 79,000 MILES ON IT. HONDA SHOULD HAVE MADE A 10 YEAR AND 100,000 MILE EXTENSION. WE WERE PENALIZED BECAUSE WE ARE LOW MILEAGE DRIVERS. THIS IS VERY UNFAIR AND SHOULD CONSIDER A CLASS ACTION LAW SUITE. THE CARS COOLANT AND OIL KEPT MIXING AND THE COOLANT WOULD QUICKLY DEPLETE AND LEAK OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD ALSO HEAT TO THE MAXIMUM TEMP ON THE ENGINE IF I DID NOT CONSTANTLY FILL MY COOLANT. I WENT TO DISCOUNT TIRE TO GET THIS CHECKED OUT AND IT WAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK, I FOUND OUT THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THIS EXACT YEAR AND ISSUE BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED FOR SOME REASON! I FEAR ONE DAY MY CAR WILL BLOW UP ON ME AND HONDA SHOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE.
MY ENGINE BLOCK IS CRACKED. I KNOW THAT SEVERAL YEAR MODELS OF THE HONDA CIVIC HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THIS DEFECT; THE 2007 YR MODEL AS IS MINE INCLUDED. MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL BUT IT HAS THE SAME DEFECT AS THE OTHERS THAT WERE RECALLED. I WOULD LIKE FOR MINE TO BE REPLACED. THE PICTURES INCLUDED SHOW WHERE THE WATER/ANTIFREEZE MIXTURE HAS LEAKED OUT AND DRIED ON. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN SEVERAL MONTHS BECAUSE OF THIS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN APPROXIMATELY LATE 2015.
CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK, RANDOM OVERHEATING, MAJOR COOLANT LOSS, EMERGENCY PULLOVER
44,000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED AT HONDA DEALER THAT ENGINE BLOCK IS CRACKED! MANUFACTURERS DEFECT WITH UNPUBLICIZED SAFETY BULLETIN 10-048 WILL NOT REPAIR.
THE VEHICLE HAS DEVELOPED A COOLANT LEAK DUE TO A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. THIS VEHICLE CAN NO LONGER BE DRIVEN AND WHILE IT IS IN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT CONDITION, REPAIRS ARE ECONOMICALLY UNFEASIBLE. THIS IS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX WITH THE R18 ENGINE. IT HAS A CLEAN TITLE AND I AM THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNER. THERE HAVE BEEN A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF SIMILAR FAILURES IN THE 2007, 2008 AND 2009 MODEL YEAR HONDA CIVICS WITH THIS ENGINE DUE TO BAD METALLURGY AND WEAK CASTING DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. HONDA KNOWS THAT THESE ARE DEFECTIVE ENGINES AS THEY CREATED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10-048 IN RESPONSE TO THESE FAILURES. THEY DID NOT HOWEVER ISSUE A RECALL. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE THIS FAILURE COULD OCCUR IN HIGHWAY DRIVING CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND SEIZE AND THE DRIVER COULD THEREFORE POTENTIALLY BE UNABLE TO LEAVE THE ACTIVE TRAFFIC LANES. REGARDLESS, EVEN IF THE DRIVER COULD MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER, THAT IS NOT A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION JUST AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY. THERE ARE MANY EXAMPLES OF SIMILAR FAILURES ON VARIOUS OWNER GROUP WEBSITES.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC ON 8/17/19 WHEN I NOTICED MY VEHICLE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INCREASING AT A FAST RATE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE ANY COOLANT. THINKING THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM, COOLANT WAS FILLED IN THE RADIATOR AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. HOWEVER, LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, THE CAR BEGAN TO OVERHEAT ONCE AGAIN. AFTER INSPECTION, MY CAR WAS OUT OF COOLANT AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR TO ED NAPLETON HONDA IN OAK LAWN ON 8/26/19 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE CYLINDER BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND WAS CAUSING A LEAK OF THE COOLANT WHICH CAUSES OVERHEATING IN VEHICLES. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN HONDA CIVIC MODELS 2006-2009, I WAS TOLD THAT HONDA ISSUED TWO WARRANTY EXTENSIONS FOR UP TO 10 YEARS AND THAT MY CAR WAS TWO YEARS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. BECAUSE I'M THE ORIGINAL AND SOLE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE WITH GREAT MAINTENANCE HISTORY, THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER SUBMITTED A GOODWILL REQUEST TO HONDA CORPORATE ASKING FOR THE COST OF REPAIR TO BE COVERED. HOWEVER, THE REQUEST WAS DENIED BY THE REGIONAL HONDA DISTRICT PARTS AND SERVICE MANAGER. I ESCALATED THE SITUATION TO HONDA CORPORATE AND FOUND OUT FROM A CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST THAT HONDA DID NOT SEND THE LETTER INFORMING ME OF THE DEFECT AND WARRANTY EXTENSION TO MY CORRECT ADDRESS. FURTHERMORE, IT WAS NOT AN ADDRESS THAT I HAD EVER PROVIDED TO HONDA. AFTER ESCALATING MY ISSUE TO THE REGIONAL CASE MANAGER, I WAS STILL REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE. THERE ARE OVER 300 COMPLAINTS ABOUT CRACKED ENGINE BLOCKS IN 06-09 HONDA CIVICS ON THE CAR COMPLAINTS WEBSITE ALONE. MANY OWNERS STATE THAT THEIR VEHICLES BEGAN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. THIS QUESTIONS HONDA'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE LONGEVITY OF THE ENGINE BLOCK AND ALL PARTS INVOLVED. I APPEAL TO NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS ONGOING MATTER AND HOLD HONDA ACCOUNTABLE BY ENFORCING A RECALL.

AS MANY OF THE OTHER PEOPLE, I HAVE A LEAKING COOLANT CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK DUE TO POOR CASTING, THUS RESULTING IN THE CAR TO DANGEROUSLY OVERHEAT. I HAVE VISITED A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY HAVE CONFIRMED IT IS A FAULTY PROBLEM AMONG MANY CIVICS MANUFACTURED THAT GENERATION. THE PROBLEM OTHERS AND I ENCOUNTER IS THE FACT THAT THE CAR EXCEEDS THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY. TO MAKE THE DILEMA WORSE, THE HONDA MANUFACTURING COMPANY DOES GUARANTEE FULL RECOMPENSATION. THEY SUGGEST FOR ONE TO GO IN FOR $100 + INSPECTION THAT DOES NOT COMPLETELY GUARANTEE AID. THE PROBLEMS I ENCOUNTER INCLUDE: AN ONGOING LEAK OF DANGEROUS COOLANT LIQUIDS WHILE DRIVING/PARKED, EXCESSIVE OVERHEATING OF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING, AND THE TEAR DOWN OF PARTS(COILS, CYLINDERS, AND SPARK PLUGS) DUE TO UNSTABLE/WORRISOME HIGH TEMPERATURES. I HAVE OVERLOOKED MANY FORUMS AND THREADS OF UNHAPPY HONDA DRIVERS THAT ARE ENCOUNTERING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I HAVE. THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FOUND HERE HAVE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY IN RECENT DAYS. I PLEAD/BEG FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE! MANY OF THE PEOPLE ENCOUNTERING THIS PROBLEM ARE OF LOW INCOME, FEW OF WHICH CANNOT AFFORD REPAIR COSTS AND/OR PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE; WE PURCHASE THESE TYPE OF CARS FOR THEIR SO-CALLED RELIABILITY. IN MY CASE, I AM A UNIVERSITY STUDENT WHO VITALLY NEEDS A SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION. ONE MAY ARGUE THAT PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS THE SOLUTION, BUT THAT LIMITS MY POSSIBILITY FRONTIER AS I ALSO HAVE TO WORK; PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION COSTS TIME ONE COULD BE USING ELSEWHERE. TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT THIS DEFECT IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO THE PUBLIC. THERE IS HIGH CORRELATION BETWEEN ENGINE OVERHEATING AND ACCIDENTS THAT ARE WORRISOME.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND I NOTICED COOLANT LEAKAGE RESULTING IN ENGINE OVERHEATING.
WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. IT WAS FIXD, BUT YESTERDAY THE CAR DIED ON FREEWAY AND TEMP GUAGE SHOT UP. AFTER LOOKING AT OIL DIPSTICK, IT WAS COMPLETELY GONE. IT MELTED. I HAD AN OIL CHANGE ON THE 14TH. COULD THEY HAVE FORGOT TO PUT NEW OIL IN? WHAT WOULD CAUSE MY CAR TO JUST DIE?
THE CAR OVERHEATED SUDDENLY. THE ENGINE BLOCK HAS A CRACK. 134K MILES. WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE. PERFECTLY GOOD ENGINE CRACKED.
UNFORTUNATELY IT IS THE SECOND TIME IT BRAKES THE ENGINE MOUNTS. I HAVE HEARD THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I THINK IT IS A FACTORY PROBLEM.
CAR BEGAN LEAKING ANTIFREEZE FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA ADMITS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AS WELL AS OTHERS BUT REFUSES TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. I HAVE APPEALED WITH AMERICAN HONDA TO NO AVAIL. THEY DO NOT CARE BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUTSIDE OF ITS WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THEY WILL ADMIT THAT THE ENGINE IS A DEFECT BY HONDA. CAR WAS PARKED AT THE TIME, HAS NO DAMAGES, AND HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED.
ENGINE BLOCK HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK THAT IS LEAKING RADIATOR COOLANT AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE ENGINE BEING DAMAGED AND VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING.
WHEN DRIVING ON A CITY STREET CAR LOST POWER AND WON'T GO AT MORE THAN 20 ML/HR AND WAS OVERHEATING ,HAVE IT CHECKED AND FOUND A CRACK ON ENGINE BLOCK,
MY 07 CIVIC DEVELOP A LONG CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE HONDA REP SAYS IT MY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE RECALL CAMPAIGN IS OVER. WHICH I DON'T THINK IS FAIR. HONDA KNEW OF THE DEFECT AND NOT ALL HONDA'S DEVELOP THIS PROBLEM IT'S JUST US UNLUCKY FEW THAT GOT THE BAD ONE'S.
A COUPLE DAYS AFTER PURCHASING A 2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH 150,000 MILES, IT SUDDENLY OVERHEATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT AND BEGAN SMOKING AS I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. UPON EXAMINING THE CAR, THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE RESERVOIR (DESPITE ADDING COOLANT, THE COOLANT LEVELS CONSISTENTLY DROP BUT THERE IS NO EXTERNAL LEAK). FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD IN TIME. HONDA RECOGNIZED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCKS FOR 2007 HONDA CIVICS WERE DEFECTIVE (HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 10-048) BUT NO LONGER COVERS REPAIRS FOR THE SAFETY RISK THAT THEIR DEFECTIVE ENGINE BLOCKS POSE TO DRIVERS OF THESE VEHICLES AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD WHEN THEIR CARS OVERHEAT.
