The contact owns a 2015 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that since owning the vehicle, the battery had been replaced four times. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while pressing the START/STOP button. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle occasionally shut off while accelerating, forcing the contact to have the vehicle jump-started. The contact replaced the battery; however, the failure returned approximately a year later. The contact called several dealers and was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system that caused the battery to continuously drain even while the vehicle was off. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.

The starter button must be pressed multiple times to start the vehicle. Have had an attempted repaired twice and problem persists. I understand there is a recall for this problem in other countries.

Upon pushing start/stop button, CR-V won't start. It's at random times the issue happens. Battery was replaced in the last 6 months. 9/23. Still having issues. Replaced the actual start/stop push button in the cabin. Still having issues. After taking CR-V to Honda dealership, they were able to reproduce the issue and it was determined the starter needs replaced. This SUV has only 77k miles. If you would like more proof as to why this issue for the 2015 needs to have a recall, I would gladly guide you over to the Honda CR-V owner's club and provide numerous posts of people who have replaced their starter specifically in a 2015 with mileage under 80k. A current coworker is experiencing the same issue on his 2015 CR-V EX as well, also in the 70k mileage range. If the reason couldn't be more obvious as to why this is a safety issue, starter failure would leave people stranded.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the vehicle would randomly go into "Accessory Mode". During the failure, the vehicle could not be turned off or shifted into gear. The gear shifter was not functional, and the battery had to be disconnected to turn the vehicle off. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer on several occasions and the computer, battery, remote starter, and starter were replaced; however, the failures persisted. The cause of the failure was not yet determined, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

5/28/2023: Vehicle won’t start, AAA called and towed it to repair facility where they claimed they fixed the issue (battery replacement) 6/01/2023: Vehicle traveling WB SR520, where all dashboard warning lights started illuminating. At the same time, steering wheel locks up and infotainment screen shuts off. Was able to get vehicle off the freeway and onto the shoulder of a nearby exit ramp where it eventually died. Called AAA again and had it towed back to the repair facility once again, where this time, the alternator failed.

I have a 2015 Honda CRV and approximately 18-24 months ago the battery went dead and I took it to the Honda dealer. They checked the battery and said it was fine. I thought perhaps I left my lights on. A short time later, the battery went dead again. I took it back to the same dealer (February 19, 2022) and they gave me a new battery. A short time later, the battery went dead yet again. I returned to the dealer (August 1, 2022) and they gave me a second battery. A short time later, it went dead again. I returned to the dealer (October 26, 2022), insisting to them it couldn't be the battery - there must be something else wrong. They completed a parasitic draw procedure, charged $939.67 and claimed to have fixed it. A short time later, the battery went dead yet again. I returned to the dealer (November 16, 2022) and the service manager told me there was nothing more they could do, they already spent countless time on this issue and that I just needed to drive the car more. On October 13, 2023, the battery went dead yet again. This time, I contacted Honda Customer Service and was assigned a case manager who proceeded to tell me that I needed to go back to the dealer and obtain a diagnosis before they could help me. On October 31, 2023, I contacted the service manager at the dealer who told me he was going to charge me by the hour and that the diagnosis may take many hours to determine. There is clearly a defect with this car! There is a class action lawsuit pending which includes many, many prior complaints made to NHTSA on this issue. I am not motivated to continue to pay a dealer to fix an issue that apparently should have been solved by a product recall.

There is a current active class action lawsuit against Honda motors regarding the battery draining issue in Honda CRV'S. The case is in the United States District Court southern district of Iowa central division. Case # [XXX]. The lawsuit mentions Honda CRV'S dating back to 2017. My wife owns a 2015 Honda CRV that has the same exact battery draining issue. Her CRV was recalled in 2018 for a software update that was supposed to correct the issue but it didn't. Since 2018 my wife and I have had to replace the battery 3 times in 4 years. On November 16th, 2022 we replaced the battery with a new one and just 19 days later that brand new battery was dead. This Honda battery draining defect obviously goes further back than 2017. Honda dealerships along with Honda motors are aware of this problem and doing absolutely nothing about this. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

BATTERY HAS DIED EVERY YEAR. I HAVE REPLACED 5 BATTERIES. A DRAIN ON THE BATTERY HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AT ENGINE FUSE #29. REMOVING THE FUSE STOPS THE DRAIN ON THE BATTERY. THE CAR WILL NOT START DUE TO THE DEAD BATTERY AFTER SITTING IDLE FOR ONE DAY.

Purchased a 2015 CRV EX in 2018. Recently I've started having an issue where on the first or second attempts to start the car with the push button start, the car doesn't crank but clicks and only goes to Accessory mode. Generally the car will finally start after pushing the button 3-6 times. There have been situations where I was almost stranded in inclement weather conditions and unsafe surroundings. There is an existing class action law suit against Honda for CRV's 2017-2019 for: Parasitic Draw Defect. CRV's built PRIOR to 2017 were not recognized and recalled. According to this Honda class action lawsuit, the problem with the starter motor may be a lack of adequate clearance between the two gears where the starter motor connects to the engine. This lack of clearance can cause the starter motor to wear prematurely, preventing the vehicle from starting. I have changed the battery and the issue still persists. I have called my local Honda dealer and asked them to honor the recall but they stated that the 2015 CRV is not included in the recall even though the issues are identical to the those reported with the 2017-2019 CRV's. Other CRV owners have been experiencing the same issues: 2015 Intermittent Starting Issue forum - https://www.crvownersclub.com/threads/2015-intermittent-starting-issue.202844/ 2015 CR-V Starting Issue forum - https://www.crvownersclub.com/threads/2015-cr-v-starting-issue.212523/

I AM ON MY THIRD CAR BATTERY FOR A CAR THAT IS ONLY A LITTLE OVER FIVE YEARS OLD. I AM REPLACING THE BATTERIES EVERY 2-3 YEARS WHICH SEEMS A BIT RIDICULOUS. SO FAR, I AM OUT $330. I HAVE TRIED BOTH OEM AND NON-OEM BATTERIES, AND NOTHING SEEMS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED TO ME, I WAS STRANDED IN A STORE PARKING LOT. A FAMILY MEMBER CAME AND JUMP STARTED MY CAR, THEN FOLLOWED BEHIND ME AS I DROVE TO THE DEALER TO GET THE BATTERY CHECKED AND THEN LATER TO AN AUTO STORE WHERE I REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE GUY THAT REPLACED MY BATTERY SAID HE HAS THE SAME ISSUE WITH HIS CRV. THE SECOND TIME (ABOUT 2 YEARS LATER AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT), WHEN I WENT TO START MY CAR AFTER DRIVING TO A STORE, THE CAR HAD TROUBLE STARTING AND WHEN IT FINALLY TURNED OVER, MY DASHBOARD WAS LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AWD, VSA, LOW TIRE PRESSURE, AND ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. AFTER GOOGLING THE ISSUE, AND SEEING THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA CRVS, I KNEW THAT IT WAS LIKELY THE BATTERY. THE PLACE I WENT TO CHECKED THE BATTERY AND SURE ENOUGH, IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I TRIED CALLING HONDA TO ASK ABOUT IT, BUT THEY DENIED THAT IT WAS EVEN AN ISSUE. HOWEVER, A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED THAT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS RECENTLY FILED FOR 2017-2019 HONDA CRVS. ALTHOUGH THE ISSUE LIKELY GOES BACK MUCH FURTHER, THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS PREVENTED EARLIER MODELS FROM BEING INCLUDED. THIS IS LIKELY A HONDA ISSUE, WHERE SOMETHING WAS NOT PROPERLY DESIGNED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE WITHOUT A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING BATTERY, IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURES MIGHT FAIL. THE DRIVER IS ALSO AT RISK OF GETTING STRANDED SOMEWHERE. MY CAR HAS HAD INTERMITTENT RANDOM TROUBLE STARTING THE WHOLE TIME I'VE HAD IT. (THERE'S NO PATTERN TO IT).

*Draining new battery *Only 22,000 miles on this vehicle and have replaced Alternator, Fuses, Starter, 3 Batteries in 5 years of having this vehicle. Now its parked again cause electrical is making battery dead. *Manufacturer does not know what it can be. *No check engine code pops up. Please check for recall on my 2015 Honda CR-V. I have read there is a Lawsuit on this issue. Why isn't there a recall so my dealership can fix or replace. Wasting lots of money on this issue they can not find.

THE STARTER ON THIS CAR COMPLETELY DIED AT ABOUT 56,000 MILES. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START AT ALL. HONDA WAS RESPONSIVE WHEN I REACHED OUT TO ASK IF THE PART WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY GAVE ME A $300 GIFT CARD FOR MY TROUBLE EVEN THOUGH THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. MY CONCERN IS THAT WHEN I SEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE, A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH A 2015 CRV HAVE ISSUES WITH THE STARTER. I BELIEVE THE PART IS FAULTY, AND COULD BE A SAFETY RISK DEPENDING ON YOUR SITUATION. I WAS LUCKY TO GET STUCK ON MY OWN ON A WARM DAY IN A SAFE AREA. I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED IN 2018 AND AM JUST SHOCKED THAT A PART WHICH IS SO VITAL TO THE BASIC FUNCTIONING OF THE CAR WOULD DIE WITHIN A FEW YEARS. I WANTED TO MAKE A REPORT SO THAT THIS IS ON RECORD AND WOULD HOPEFULLY LEAD TO A RECALL.

MY BATTERY HAS HAD ISSUES FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS. I'VE PUT IN 3 BATTERIES IN THE PAST 3 YEARS AND I'M STILL EXPERIENCING ISSUES WHERE MY CAR WON'T START AFTER ONLY SITTING FOR A DAY. IT'S BEEN GETTING WORSE AS WELL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY THOUGHT THEY FOUND THE PARASITIC BATTERY DRAIN BUT IT'S SINCE GOTTEN WORSE. MY CAR HAS BEEN DEAD 3 TIMES AFTER ONLY SITTING FOR A DAY SINCE THE DEALERSHIP 'FOUND THE PROBLEM.'

SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN THE 2015 HONDA CR-V 5 YEARS AGO, I HAVE RANDOMLY HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING MY CAR. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO NUMEROUS DEALERSHIPS TO ONLY BE TOLD THE BATTERY IS BAD. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS OFFERED NO OTHER SUPPORT, BUT THEN TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. TODAY, 09/07/2020, I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND IT DID NOT START. IT JUST MADE THE COUGHING SOUND BUT WOULD NOT START. IT TOOK MULTIPLE TRIES UNTIL IT STARTS. I HOPE HONDA FIXES THIS ISSUE AS I NOTICE MANY OTHER DRIVERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE.

I AM WRITING YOU BECAUSE I HAD TO HAVE THE STARTED REPLACED ON MY HONDA 2015 CR-V. THE VIN NUMBER IS: [XXX]; VA LICENSE [XXX]; MILEAGE 47,332. IT IS UNREASONABLE TO HAVE A VEHICLE OF THAT YEAR AND SUCH A LOW MILEAGE WITH STARTER PROBLEMS AND HAVING THE STARTED REPLACED. THE FINAL BILL FOR THE WORK CONDUCTED WAS $727.16, INCLUDING PARTS, LABOR AND TAXES. I SUSPECT THAT STARTER PROBLEMS ARE INHERITED FROM A POOR DESIGN WHERE THE STARTER IS EXPOSED TO EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM THE MANIFOLD. THEREFORE, ALL CR-VS' DESIGNED IN A SAME MANNER ARE RELEGATED TO THE SAME FLAW. CONSEQUENTLY, ALL OWNERS OF THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE ARE FORCED TO INCUR THE UNREASONABLE COST OF HAVING TO REPLACE THE STARTER AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. DONE INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TT

BATTERY DISCHARGES FREQUENTLY (CAR WILL NOT START) BEGINNING WHEN LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD, NEW BATTERY SAME PROBLEM. HAPPENS RANDOMLY. DEALER COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM (EVEN THOUGH IT HAPPENED ONCE IN THEIR SHOP). NOT RELATED TO FREQUENT SHORT TRIPS (DEALER SUGGESTION) AS WE TRACKED OCCURRENCE WITH DIFFERENT TRIP LENGTHS WITH SAME UNPREDICTABLE RESULTS. KEEPING BATTERY ON CHARGER DAILY SEEMS TO HELP, BUT MUST BE DONE DAILY OR ELSE PROBLEM REOCCURS. PROBLEM HAPPENS AFTER SHUTTING VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING -- CAN BE AFTER SHORT STOP (SHOPPING) OR OVERNIGHT (IN GARAGE). CLEARLY THERE IS A DEFECT -- SHORT?; RELAY? HAVE HEARD OF OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM SAME MAKE AND MODEL BUT DIFFERENT YEARS. HONDA DEALER HAS BEEN NO HELP AND NOW VEHICLE IS OFF WARRANTY.
