WE TRAVELED FROM NEW MEXICO TO CALIFORNIA AND WHEN WE ARRIVED AND GOT IN TOWN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING ON CITY STREET
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED SECOND HAND IN 2012 AND IMMEDIATELY NEEDED TO HAVE ITS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,000. EVEN NOW THERE IS OCCASIONAL SLIPAGE OF THE NEW TRANSMISSION, WHICH INDICATES TO ME IT MAY NOT BE LONG FOR THIS WORLD. IT'S PAINFULLY OBVIOUS HONDA BUILT AND INSTALLED SUP PAR TRANSMISSIONS FOR MANY YEARS, DESPITE MOUNTAINS OF COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS. THEY SHOULD BE TAKEN TO TASK FOR POOR DESIGN, ENGINEERING AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT.
ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN SPEED SENSOR ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION AS REMOVED AS STATED ON THE HANES MANUAL FOR THE CAR BUT WHEN REINSTALLING A SPACER NOT MENTION IN THE BOOK AS NECESSARY FOR INSTALLATION FELL DURING REMOVAL AND AS RESULT NOT INSTALLED RESULTED ON THE BRAKING OF THE SENSOR WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO TOTALLY FAIL. I AM NOW WITHOUT CAR DUE A SIMPLE BOOK ERROR.
LIKE HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING JERKY AND SLIPPING TRANSMISSION GEARS WHILE ACCELERATING. AS IN THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS SHOWING TRANSMISSION FAILURE, THE SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING TO [XXX] AT 60K MILES. I BROUGHT THIS VAN AT 90,000 MILLES, I REALLY TAKE CARE OF THIS VAN. THE WAS BROKEN THE TRANSMISSION AT 107,000 HONDA FIXED, AGAIN 127,000 AND I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX IT, AGAIN AT 163,000 AND HONDA FIXED, BUT I HAVE TO PAY AROUND 400.00 FOR SOME EXTRAS THEY REQUEST, AND NOW AGAIN AT 193,000. HONDA REFUSED TO FIX IT, THEN I SPOKE TO THE PEOPLE IN THE MAIN OFFICE IN TORRANCE AND ALSO MY CASE WAS DENIED.I DONT KNOW ANY ABOUT THE PREVIOUS 90,000 MILLES BECAUSE WAS UNDER OTHER OWNER. FOR SURE HAPPEN BEFORE. I ALWAYS FIX EVERYTHING ON TIME, AND REALLY CARE ABOUT THIS VAN. YOU THINK IT IS FEAR TO BE FIXING THIS HONDA EVERY ALMOST 30,000 MILLES, NOT RELIABLE, NOT GOOD, PIECE OF JONK VAN? THIS IS WHAT I RECALL, BUT MOST IS ACCURATE.
MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS SLAMMING INTO 2ND TILL IT STARTED SLIPPING. I PUT IN A USED SOLENOID....BUT IT STILL SLIPS IN 2ND AND ANOTHER SYMPTOM IS TCS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER 5 MIN OR SO DRIVING. [ I CAN MAKE IT GO INTO 2ND IF I REV IT OUT TO ABOUT 25-3000 RPM IN FIRST GEAR AND BACK OFF THE ACCELERATOR FAST AS IT IS GOING IN TO 2ND THEN IT GOES INTO GEAR.] SO I TRIED PUTTING IN A NEW DUAL LINEAR SOLENOID - HAD SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT BUT STILL SLIPS IN 2ND GEAR OR WILL NOT GO INTO 2ND GEAR WITHOUT BACKING OFF ACCELERATOR. I ALSO CHECKED THE OTHER SOLENOIDS WHICH SEEM OK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000. TRANSMISSIONS ON THE ODYSSEY HAVE A HABIT OF SEIZING UP. I'M ON MY 3RD TRANNY FOR MY 2000 ODDYSEY. I REPLACED IT AT 112,000 MILES AND 150,000 MILES AT $3,000 A POP. IT'S A SCANDAL AND CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE PAID DAMAGES FOR THE DESIGN FLAWS THAT ARE BEHIND THESE FAILURES. *JS
MY GEAR STARTED SHIFTING WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY 3 SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR. IT WAS ONE OF THE SCARIEST THINGS I'VE EXPERIENCED. THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND COASTING THEN LIGHTS ON THE DASH STARTING DISPLAYING FOLLOWED BY THE CAR REVVING UP BUT NOT MOVING. NOW THE GEARS WON'T SHIFT AT ALL. *TR
THIS CAR HAS A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. THE FIRST ONE FAILED AT 80K, AND THE NEW REPLACEMENT FROM HONDA FAILED A 119K, ONLY 39K MILES LATER! HONDA REFUSED TO WARRANTY IT OR HELP IN ANY WAY. *TT
THIS VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. WE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT A HONDA DEALER IN JULY 2010 (WITH ABOUT 88K MILES) & THIS TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED ONCE AGAIN, REQUIRING IT TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TRANSMISSION CONVERTER CAUSED THE RED LIGHT TO COME ON AFTER ALL THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS HAD BEEN FIXED BY A HONDA MECHANIC. THERE HAS BEEN SLIPPING OF SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND. VEHICLE HAS HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. REPLACEMENT DATES: OCTOBER 2002 - FEBRUARY 2003 - APRIL 2005 - JUNE 2008 - PRESENTLY AT HONDA DEALERSHIP REQUIRING A 5TH TRANSMISSION - IT HAS GONE ONLY 42,000 SINCE THE 2008 TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED. HONDA REFUSES TO HELP OR SEE THAT THERE IS A BIGGER ISSUE HERE. I AM ASKING THAT THEY REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION AT THEIR EXPENSE. DURING THE 2008 TRANSMISSION FAILURE, THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP COMPLETELY WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WAS OUR GOOD FORTUNE TO HAVE GOTTEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PLEASE HELP ME. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. HONDA REPLACED TRANSMISSION UNDER CLASS ACTION EXTENDED WARRANTY IN 2009, BUT I HAD TO PAY $1,200. NOW IN OCTOBER 2013, AND JUST 46,000 MILES LATER THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AGAIN. HONDA IS REFUSING TO HELP WITH IT CITING THAT THE "VEHICLE IS TOO OLD." MY RESPONSE TO THEM WAS, IF THE REPAIR IN 2009 WAS DONE CORRECTLY THEN I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM TODAY REGARDLESS OF HOW OLD OR HOW MANY MILES THE VEHICLE HAS. HONDA IS WASHING THEIR HANDS OF ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND ANY REPAIR NOW IS 100% MINE, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY COSTS AS MUCH AS THE VEHICLE MIGHT BE WORTH. THAT IS NOT RIGHT THAT HONDA TEASED SO MANY CUSTOMERS IN TO THINKING THEY WERE GETTING A SOLID REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY ONLY TO FIND OUT IT LASTS JUST LONG ENOUGH SO THEY CAN AVOID FURTHER RESPONSIBILITY. NOT COOL HONDA! OUR CHILDREN ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NOW AS THEY AND WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THE TRANSMISSION COULD LOCK UP ON THEM AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I CAN'T SAY I BLAME THEM. WHILE DRIVING I HAD TO TURN ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS BECAUSE THE VAN WAS INSTALLING THEN WOULD DRIVE AGAIN AND THEN KEPT JERKING THEN THE VAN TOTALLY WOULD NOT DRIVE AFTER 5 MINUTES. NEED TO FIND OUT IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS FOR THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO TRY TO GET FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND USUALLY ON COLD STARTS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PRESSURE SWITCH FOR THE GEARS FAILED. THE DEALER FIRST ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THAT DID NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,000. UPDATED 8/26/13 *CN
DRIVING SOUTH ON RT84, JUST ENTERING CT, THE ENGINE BEGINS TO OVER-REV TO 8000RPMS. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, AND THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, DISENGAGING OUT OF DRIVE. COASTING, THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING, NORMAL RPMS FOR IDLE SPEED. TRYING TO REENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION AT A LOWER GEAR, FAILED. PULLED OFF RT84 IN VERNON ROCKVILLE, CT, AND MADE IT TO A PARKING LOT. ENGINE OVER-REVVING TO GET TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE. PARKED, THE CAR WAS ALLOWED TO SIT, SHUT OFF FOR 45 MINUTES. RESTARTED CAR, ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE, AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO ENGAGE IN ANY FORWARD GEAR. WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE, BUT NOT IN A FORWARD GEAR. HAD CAR TOWED TO HONDA DEALER IN MANCHESTER, CT. DEALER SUBSEQUENTLY CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE REQUIRED A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. UP TO THIS POINT, NO SIGN OF TRANSMISSION TROUBLE; NO SLIPPAGE, NO HESITATION. TRANSMISSION WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000 MILES OLD, HAVING BEEN REPLACED AT HONDA DEALER UNDER RECALL BACK IN 2004, AT APPROXIMATELY 32,000 MILES. *TR
MINIVAN STARTED JERKY AND LOST POWER CLIMBING GENTLE SLOPE ON GEARY BLVD IN SAN FRANCISCO. AFTER I FRANTICALLY MOVED TO THE SIDE TO PREVENT BEING HIT BY A TRUCK, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK THE VEHICLE, I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
NOTICED CAR SLIPPING WHEN IN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. TOOK VAN INTO DEALER IN JUNE OF 2008 FOR DIAGNOSES. INTERNAL FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AND IN AUG TRANNY WENT OUT AT 120,549MILES. HAD HONDA DEALER REPAIR ISSUE. WE WERE OFFERED A DISCOUNT THRU CUSTOMER RELATIONS. NOW IN 2013 WITH ABOUT 194,000 MILES TRANSMISSION IS ABOUT TO GO. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. TWO TRANSMISSIONS GO BAD IN 13 YEARS. HONDA NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR LOUSY PRODUCT. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE INVESTMENT. *TR
TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 73000 MILES. HONDA REPLACED WITH A REMANUFACTURED UNIT ONLY DUE TO THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FILED AGAINST THEM. THE REPLACEMENT TRANS WAS RETURNED TWICE TO THE DEALER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A HIGH PITCH WINE IN 3RD GEAR. THEY SAID IT WAS OK AND DID NOTHING. NOW THIS REMAN TRANS HAS ONLY 35000 MILES AND IT SHOWS A PO740 CODE AND HAS AN ENGAGEMENT PROBLEM FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR NEUTRAL TO DRIVE. HONDA SAYS TOUGH LUCK, YOUR ON YOUR OWN. I AM A LICENSED USED VEHICLE SALESPERSON. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AT A DEALER AUCTION FEB. 2012. UPON PURCHASE THAT DAY, THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT FAIL WITH ITS 11 MPH SHIFT UNTIL IT GOT WARM. WE THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY A FILTER AS OTHER VEHICLES HAVE HAD. WHEN WE GOT IT HOME, WE CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION HAS NO WAY TO CHANGE FLUID OR FILTER. I CALLED HONDA ABOUT A RECALL, THEY SAID NO RECALLS. IT WOULD ONLY COST ME $3797 DEALER COST TO REPLACE IT. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND THAT HONDA STILL HAS THIS PROBLEM EVERY VEHICLE YEAR UP TO 2012. I THINK IF THEY CAN PRODUCE AND USE SUCH A TRANSMISSION, THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THEM ALL. TOYOTA RECALLED ALL THEIR ENGINES 2 YEARS AGO, REGARDLESS OF YEAR OR MILEAGE AND THEY SURVIVED THE RECALL. I AM STILL DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT. CAN'T AFFORD TO ADD THIS MUCH MONEY TO THIS VEHICLE AND STILL BE ABLE TO RESELL IT TO THE PUBLIC. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 60 MILES PER HOUR ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SPONTANEOUSLY FAILED. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AFTER THAT POINT, BUT WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO COAST OFF THE FREEWAY. HAD THIS HAPPENED 2 MINUTES EARLIER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK IN A ACUTE TURN IN THE FREEWAY WITHOUT A GOOD SHOULDER TO PULL OF ON, LEAVING ME STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT 5/5 08-TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING HARD AND THEN ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT WENT ON. BROUGHT IT TO HONDA DEALER THE RAN THE CODE AND STATED INTERNAL TRANS FAILURE. SINCE WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND HAD ALL TRANS SERVICE AT HONDA THEY AGREED TO SPLIT HALF THE COST. I ASKED WHAT IF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AGAIN THE SERVICE REP STATED "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT" IT WILL LAST AT LONG TIME. WELL HERE I AM AGAIN WITH 45,000 MILES LATER SAME PROBLEM. BROUGHT IT TO HONDA AND THEY SAID "SORRY YOU ON YOUR OWN" 4-5 THOUSAND TO REPLACE. THAT IS MORE THAN THE VAN IS WORTH. I THINK IT'S TERRIBLE THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS BUT REFUSE TO RECALL OR FIX THEM CORRECTLY. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTING SLIPPING ON 12/8/12 I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND IT SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT WARNING. I ALMOST WAS HIT. I COULDN'T MOVE, THE VAN HAD NO POWER, JUST REVERTED UP THE 3000 RPM'S I WAS SCARED. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I GUESS WHEN PEOPLE START GETTING KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENTS FROM THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS FROM HONDA MAYBE SOMETHING WILL HOPEFULLY BE DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
WE HAVE HAD THREE TRANSMISSION FAILURES WITH THIS ODYSSEY. TWO WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, THE LAST FAILURE OCCURRED AT 50K MILES, SO IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE 36K WARRANTY. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT A VEHICLE COULD GO THROUGH THREE TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS AMOUNT OF TIME. *TR
