I just purchased a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. When driving I noticed the hood vibrating or shaking. I checked to ensure it was closed all the way, and it was. When I did research, I found there is a safety recall for this exact issue, and the year, make and model of my truck falls into the affected years. However, when I look up my VIN, it does not comeback with the recall authorization. Please advise. The recall number is: 21V932

I request Honda consideration of payment for hood replacement on my 2019 Ridgeline. Since I bought the truck new in 2019, the hood has fluttered alarmingly in turbulent air. I took it in when I got the recall notice in Jan 2022, hoping that it would resolve the problem. The local dealer installed a bracket reinforcement at that time. It did not prevent the hood flutter. This summer, as I was travelling in Wyoming on a 2 lane road at 55mph, I encountered a blast of air from a semi truck going the opposite direction. The left side of the hood blew up 4-5 inches, accompanied by a loud banging noise. The hood latch held. When I stopped, the left side of the hood was deformed upward about 1.5 inches. At roadside, I torqued it down so that it did not have such a big gap, but after that, it would even deform up substantially with the bow wave from a passing motorcycle. Ultimately, I used Guerilla Tape to hold the hood down and to try to prevent air pressure from getting under the hood and lifting. This was effective, but I noticed that now the entire hood would flutter. In 2021, Honda sent me a recall notice about this issue and I complied. That notice said that one of the potential remedies was hood replacement. This seems adequate evidence to me that Honda acknowledges a design flaw. i believe that there are actually 2 flaws. one with inadequate stiffness of the leading edge of the hood, and the other inadequate prevention of air ingress under the leading edge of the hood. The combination of these led to hood failure. I believe that if I had waited to respond to the recall notice, that Honda would have certainly replaced my hood, the skin of which is now completely debonded from the underlying skeleton. I suspect that my local dealer followed recall guidelines in the placement of latch reinforcement, but maintain that this was inadequate remedy for a potentially lethal problem.

Severe hood vibration, bouncing and shaking present at various highway speeds (55mph-65mph). VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V932000 (Structure, Latches, Locks/Linkages). Upon visual inspection hood latch was significantly loose. Gaps evident in seal of hood and severe vibration of hood presented and remain present following recall/repair. The vehicle was brought to the dealership upon reciving recall notice. Dealership installed striker plate and tightened loose hood latch. (03/03/2022) However, hood continued to vibrate, bounce and shake at highway speeds after initial repair; noticed only after leaving dealership. Consequently, vehicle has been returned to the dealership two additional times for same safety complaint: severe hood vibration. (Vehicle returned again 03/04/2022 and 03/21/2022). Dealership was informed of continued severe vibration and failure to address the vibration and bouncing of hood resulting from air entry through gaps between hood and grill each time vehicle returned to dealership. Despite consumer informing dealership vehicle's hood was continuing to show severe vibration, shaking and bouncing at highway speeds, the dealership indicated they did all they could; all is safe and the hood does not get secured on sides, just at front latch. Dealership informed consumer nothing more could be done. Consumer found dealership's explanation; subsequent failure to address and correct vibrating hood safety issue unacceptable and is reporting this vehicle's hood vibration as a continued safety problem as it remains a clear and present danger at this current time. Continued, natural wear, tear, and strain caused by vibration and bouncing of the hood, resulting from air entry through gaps between hood and grill, remains clear and present danger of hood unexpectedly opening while driving increasing the risk of a crash resulting in potential injury or death.

When the tailgate of the Ridgeline is open like a door it slams shut hitting the person loading something into the bed in the back. The hinge isn’t strong enough to hold the door open. The truck has to be parked on perfectly level ground to keep this from happening. Honda has been made aware of this problem.

Driving at about 60-70mph the hood vibrates or shimmy's. The movement is enough to warrant slowing down in case is opened suddenly. There are no warning lights or messages when it happens. It occurs frequently. I have not visited the Honda dealer yet.

The hood shakes, flutters, bounces, in the wind. It is very unnerving thinking hood will detach and fly up and hit windshield while driving. Took the ridgeline to Honda of Ames Iowa. The glue holding the subframe to hood failed and Honda of Ames said it was out of warranty with 61,094 miles. My opinion was glue failed was not the problem but a design flaw in the hood. Honda of Ames Iowa referred me to a 3rd party for repair. I performed my own repair by glueing hood with gorerilla glue and hood still shakes, flutters, bounces.

HOOD FLUTTERS ON HIGHWAY. HAPPENS MORE DURING WINDY CONDITIONS BUT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. LOOKS LIKE THE HOOD IS GOING TO BLOW OPEN. BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND AN ISSUE AND DID NOTHING.

THE HOOD VIBRATES AND BOUNCES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS IF THE HOOD IS NOT COMPLETELY LATCHED. ALSO, THE HOOD DOES NOT LATCH EASILY. IT TAKES CONSIDERABLE FORCE TO GET THE HOOD LATCH TO SECURE. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR THE FUEL PUMP INSPECTION RECALL. ON THIS VISIT THE HOOD BOLTS WERE TORQUED TO SPEC. THE SECOND TIME, AN INSPECTION OF THE HOOD REVEALED THE ADHESIVE HOLDING THE HOOD BRACING HAD SEPARATED FROM THE HOOD. IT ALSO SHOWED THE HOOD HOOK WAS HITTING THE HOOD LATCH OFF CENTER (SCRATCHES ON ONE SIDE OF THE HOOK) MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO CLOSE AND LATCH SECURELY.

THE HOOD MOVES UP AND DOWN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ESPECIALLY WHEN ENCOUNTERING STRONG WIND GUSTS. FOR INSTANCE, IF THE WIND IS BLOWING HARD OR WHEN YOU MEET SEMI TRUCKS GOING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE MOVEMENT IS SIGNIFICANT AND VERY NOTICEABLE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I STOPPED TO MAKE SURE THE HOOD WAS LATCHED. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM (TSB 17-083) AND DEALER APPLIED SOME ADHESIVE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TSB. IT SEEMED TO HELP, BUT DID NOT ELIMINATE THE MOVEMENT. I AM CONCERNED THAT DOWN THE ROAD THE HOOD COULD COME APART OR COME OFF.

THE HOOD ON THE 2019 HONDA RIDGELINE ALWAYS JUMPS UP AD DOWN AND VIBRATES VIOLENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT IS VERY UNSETTLING SINCE IT IS ONLY HELD BY A VERY LIGHTWIEGHT LATCH WITH A LIGHTWEIGHT RIVET TO TO THE FRAME. I EXPRESSED THIS CONCERN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE FUEL PUMP INSPECTION RECALL. THEY REATTACHED THE RUBBER GASKET ON THE HOOD BUT THERE IS NO CHANGE IN THIS PROBLEM . MY CONCERN IS THAT THE LATCH WILL LET GO UNDER THIS STRESS AND THE HOOD WILL FLY UP ON THE HIGHWAY.

THE HOOD FLUTTERS AT CERTAIN TIMES UNDER TURBULENCE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN CONDITIONS ARE PERFECT SO THE DEALER REFUSES TO FIX BECAUSE HE CAN'T DUPLICATE IT. IT HAPPENS IN GUSTY WINDS OR WHEN DRIVING AROUND SEMITRUCKS.
