The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 98V245000 (Suspension) and 02V341000 (Suspension); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a case was opened. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE LOWER FRONT CONTROL ARM CORRODED THROUGH AND BROKE. CAR WAS VERY UNSTABLE AND TIRES WORE DOWN FAST. THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL ON THIS CONTROL ARM IT WAS CAMPAIGN NUMBER 02V341000. SERVICE WAS DONE BY HYUNDAI IN 9/2003 AND PART CORRODED AND BROKE IN 1/2007. EITHER SERVICE WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY OR POOR QUALITY PARTS WERE USED. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH, A CRACKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT LEFT END OF THE VEHICLE AND THE FRONT LEFT TIRE BEGAN TO RUB ON THE BACK OF THE WHEEL WELL DURING BRAKING. ON INSPECTION BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS A FAILURE OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND COIL SPRING ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE. THERE WAS A RECALL (02V341000) REGARDING THE SUSPENSION, LOWER CONTROL ARM. THE SERVICE DEALER HAD INSPECTED THE CONTROL ARM FOR RUST AND APPLIED AN UNDERCOATING TO THE PART ON 8/12/2003. THE MANUFACTURER HAD PROVIDED THE RECALL NUMBERS TO THE CONTACT AND REFERRED THE ISSUE BACK TO THE SERVICE DEALER. THE SERVICE DEALER DETERMINED THE WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY HAD PASSED FOR A FREE REPLACEMENT PART.

REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPLACEMENT OF CONTROL ARMS.*MR THE CONSUMER REPLACED BOTH CONTROL ARMS AFTER A MINOR CAR ACCIDENT. AFTER READING THE RECALL NOTICE IT WAS HIGHLY PROBABLE THAT THE DEFECTIVE CONTROL ARMS CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. AS A RESULT OF THAT, THE CONSUMER FELT THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD REIMBURSE FOR THE AMOUNT OF $1989.73 FOR REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS. *CB THE CONSUMERS CLAIM WAS DENIED, BECAUSE THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO PRODUCE THE CONTROL ARMS FOR ANALYSIS.*JB

RECEIVED MANUFACTURER'S RECALL # 058 CONCERNING FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM: VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE , AND DESPITE A CRACK ALONG THE LOWER CONTROL ARM, THE ONLY ACTION WAS TO SPRAY A RUST RETARDANT ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE RECALL WORK WAS NOT COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE AND THAT THEY WERE NO LONGER OBLIGATED TO DO WORK FOR FREE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM.*AK

LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED, BECAUSE OF RUST. *PH THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION REGARDING THE LOWER CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT, WHEN THE CONSUMER CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT SHE WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND TO CALL BACK A T A LATER DATE. THE CONSUMER THEN WENT TO HAVE THE BRAKE SON THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BECAUSE OF A NOISE AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED HER THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSING. THE DEALER EVENTUALLY REPLACED BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS. *JB

NHTSA RECALL 02-V-341-000: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, REGISTERED AND OPERATED IN THE STATE O.F NEW YORK. DURING WINTER MONTHS, LARGE QUANTITIES OF SALT ARE USED TO DE-ICE ROADS. THIS ROAD SALT COULD RESULT IN CORROSION OF THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS. DEALER WILL REPLACE LOWER CONTROLS AND BALLS JOINTS, BUT REFUSED TO DO IT THE FRONT ALIGNMENT. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF ONLINE RESEARCH, I FIGURED OUT THAT MY CAR'S FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM RUSTED AND EVENTUALLY BROKE. I CALLED A FEW HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO GET MY CAR FIXED. MOST OF THEM WERE NICE UNTIL I MENTIONED THE FACT THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS A RECALL ITEM. THEN OF COURSE THEY COULDN'T GET ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR A FEW WEEKS OR I HAD TO SUPPLY THEM WITH ALL MY INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE. I DIDN'T FEEL COMFORTABLE GIVING A STRANGER SUCH INFORMATION SO I CHOSE NOT TO. ONCE THE CAR WAS AT THE CLOSEST LOCATION FROM MY HOUSE, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT A RECALL ITEM BASED ON THE VIN NUMBER. PERSONALLY, I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW ELSE A FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM CAN JUST RUST OUT AND BREAK. SO NOW WHAT DO I DO. DO I JUST SIT BACK AND PAY ALOT OF MONEY TO GET IT FIXED OR DO I PERSUE FINDING A WAY TO GET MY VIN NUMBER ON THE LIST OF RECALLS?
