THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 184,000.

THE RECALL STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD INSTALL NEW SIDE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR CLIPS. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER WAS TO REVISE THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS ATTACHMENTS THAT WERE UNDER THE SEATS. THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL DID NOT STATE TO PERFORM THE SPECIFIC REPAIRS. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL DESPITE THE CONTACT'S VIN BEING INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 163,000.
SPOKANE HYUNDAI MATTER I BOUGHT MY HYUNDAI IN 2001 AND HAVE OVER 100,000 MILES ON MY CAR. I AM THE SOLE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY (ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO) MY DASHBOARD AIRBAG LIGHT WENT ON AND I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE WHAT I SHOULD DO. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY OR MAY BE DEFECTIVE. HYUNDAI SPOKANE (THE DEALERSHIP WHO SOLD ME THE CAR) SAID TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THEM TO INVESTIGATE. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN THE NEXT DAY: DECEMBER 21, 2011 AND THE CAR DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD COST ME $90 FOR THEM TO RUN THEIR TESTS TO DETERMINE WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY AIRBAG LIGHT. THEY WENT ON TO SAY THAT THERE WERE A COUPLE OF RECALL NOTICES ON THE CAR THAT THEY COULD REPLACE. THIS AIRBAG CONCERN IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS MANDATORY FOR THE DEALERSHIP (MANUFACTURER) TO INVESTIGATE AND FIX. THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR, SO EVEN THOUGH MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED ON MY ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, ETC; THE SAFETY (AIRBAGS) IS FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. WHY WOULD I PAY TO HAVE SPOKANE HYUNDAI INVESTIGATE AND FIX A PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI IS RESPONSIBLE FOR? THE DEFECT WAS RELATED TO A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V533000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE); HOWEVER THE NOTIFICATION WAS RECEIVED AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OWNER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED FOR REIMBURSEMENT WHICH THEY REFUSED TO HONOR FOR THE PREVIOUS RECALL RELATED REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,076.

HOWEVER, TWO MONTHS PRIOR, SHE WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN AIR BAG MODULE DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER CHEST. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED HIP INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIRBAGS DOES WORK AND THE FAILURE IS DUE TO THE CONTACT MOVING THE SEAT EXCESSIVELY. THE CONTACT VEHICLE WAS RECALLED TWICE, ONCE FOR THE WIRING HARNESS,THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY HALF OF THE EXPENSES FOR THE REPAIRS. THE SECOND RECALL IS FOR THE FRONT LOWER PANEL (RUST) AND THE EARLIEST DATE THEY HAVE AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR IS 6/10/10 HE DOES NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE FAILURES NOT BEING REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 138000.

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG HAD SUDDENLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT ANYONE SITTING IN THE SEAT.THREE DAYS PRIOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING AFTER ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE FOUND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 96000.
THERE WAS AN AIRBAG RECALL ON MY 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. I GOT THE RECALLED REPAIRED BY ARROW HYUNDAI IN MILWAUKEE, WI. ON JANUARY 5TH, 2009. AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER, 2009 BOTH OF THE SIDE PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. THE FIRST SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ROUGHLY 25MPH. (WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 18TH.) THE SECOND SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED OVERNIGHT WHILE NO ONE WAS EVEN IN THE CAR. (THE NEXT WEEK IN SEPTEMBER, DEPLOYED LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER THE FIRST) I HAD TRIED TO SCHEDULE TWO DIFFERENT APPOINTMENTS WITH HYUNDAI TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS AND SEATS FIXED BUT HAD TO RESCHEDULE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT TELL ME HOW LONG THEY WOULD HAVE MY CAR. BEFORE I COULD GO TO THE NEXT APPOINTMENT I MADE WITH ARROW HYUNDAI, MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ALSO DEPLOYED. (ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AFTER MY SECOND SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED). THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG (THE ONE THAT DEPLOYS FROM THE DASHBOARD) DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS ABOUT TO PULL OUT FROM BEING PARKED. I WAS GOING ROUGHLY 3MPH IF THAT. THIS AIRBAG SHATTERED MY WINDSHIELD, MAKING THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA THE DAY AFTER MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND THEY BEGAN AN "INVESTIGATION". IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER THREE MONTHS SINCE THE THIRD AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT HAVING MY CAR REPAIRED. I HAVE CALLED HYUNDAI USA AT LEAST EVERY OTHER WEEK SINCE THIS OCCURRED AND STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REAL ANSWER. *TR

HOWEVER THE REMEDY REFERENCED IN THE RECALL DOES NOT ALLOW RECOURSE FOR CONSUMERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED CONTAMINATION PRIOR TO RECALL SERVICE. AS A CONSEQUENCE HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $3000.00 TO REPAIR THE CONNECTOR MODULE. AFTER HE PAYS FOR THE REPAIR HE COULD THEN INQUIRE ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT. DEALER FAILED TO INSTALL THE RECALL REPAIR ITEM YET DEALER CLAIMED THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED. PHOTOS OF UNMODIFIED VEHICLE ARE AVAILABLE. SUBSEQUENTLY AND ON THE SAME DAY OF CLAIMED REPAIR, THE SRS (AIR BAG) CONTROL MODULE BEGAN TO SHOW A FAILURE LIGHT ON THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO OURISMAN HYUNDAI TO CORRECT THE FAILURE ON 8/28/09. DEALER CLAIMED THE SRS CONTROL MODULE WAS (NOW) DEFECTIVE AND MUST BE REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE. THE SRS CONTROL MODULE ON THIS VEHICLE APPEARED TO PERFORM ITS FUNCTION CORRECTLY FOR 8 YEARS; NO FAILURE SYMPTOMS WERE EVIDENT. DEALER RECALL WORK HAS RENDERED THE SRS CONTROL MODULE INOPERATIVE. DUE TO DEALER ACTION, OUR FAMILY IS NOT LONGER PROTECTED BY THE SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM. *TR

AS A CONSEQUENCE, COLLATERAL DAMAGED CAUSED BY A FAILURE THAT HAS PROGRESSED WILL NOT BE REMEDIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,800. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRAN-SENSOR OUTPUT FAILED. THERE WAS ALSO SRMS INTERNAL FAILURE. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAGS WOULD DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. IN DECEMBER OF 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V532000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $3,000 TO REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE USAGE OF THE AIR BAGS AND DEPLOYMENT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO ASSIST BECAUSE THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED. CONSUMER WANTS TO KNOW WHY THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE THE MODULE FOR THIS RECALL. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD HER VEHICLE CLEANED AND DETAILED. WHEN SHE PICKED THE VEHICLE UP, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THE MODULE WAS NO OPERATING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT COULD HAVE BEEN FROM MOVING THE SEATS. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER REGARDING THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION AS STATED IN THE LETTER, ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY WERE ONLY REQUIRED TO PUT A PROTECTIVE COVER OVER THE AIR BAG MODULE SO THAT LIQUID COULD NOT GET INTO THE MODULE. I HAD AN AIR BAG LIGHT ON, HYUNDAI MOTORS AND LUTHER BLOOMINGTON HYUNDAI MITSUBISHI KIA COULD NOT VERIFY TO ME THAT THE LIGHT WAS DUE TO THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT WAS THE CONTACT'S FAULT; THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. ON NOVEMBER 29, 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V533000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR CLIP INSTEAD OF THE SENSOR MODULE. THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE THE AIR BAG INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER IS RECONSIDERING THE PREVIOUS REPORT AND WILL INVESTIGATE IF THEY WILL PAY FOR THE SENSOR MODULE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE ENGINE, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WIRING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V532000 (AIR BAGS; FRONTAL; SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE) AND WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE REMEDY HAS NOT CORRECTED THE ISSUE ADDRESSED IN THE SAFETY DEFECT. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR CONTINUES TO ILLUMINATE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

SHE FIRST NOTICED ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAG IN JULY OF 2008 WHEN THE INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIR BAG MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $900. SHE WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008 AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT RECALL NOTICES WOULD NOT BE ISSUED UNTIL THE END OF 2008. AFTER HAVING THE RECALL REMEDY PERFORMED, THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE REMEDY WAS INSUFFICIENT TO COMPLETELY REPAIR THE ISSUE. SHE FELT THAT THE ENTIRE MODULE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED BECAUSE THE COVER WAS DEFECTIVE. THE COVER WOULD BE PROTECTING THE MODULE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 137,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
