While driving to work this morning, 12/31/25, at approximately 0730 my front sunroof exploded. There was no collision, no debris, nothing hit the glass. This put me and my child at risk due to exploding glass. I have attempted to contact dealer to inquire but am waiting on a returned phone call. I have filed a claim with my insurance as well. There was no warning that this was going to occur.
I was driving down the interstate with my sunroof and the panel closed. Sunroof exploded outwards. Not near an overpass or any falling debris. Glass flew everywhere. Thankfully the screen was closed and it did not come inwards.
The sun roof in our 2022 Hyundai Palisade exploded on Friday 28th November whilst we were driving down the highway on I25 to [XXX] . All of my family were in the car and the sunroof exploded outwards for no reason. There were no windows or doors open at that time to create pressure and no rock or item hit the sunroof. As you can see from the photos, there is very little glass inside the car and the majority of it exploded up and out from the car and the shape of the glass pointing upwards, indicates the explosion was from the inside of the car, to the outside. Despite the upheaval in the car , we were able to navigate the car safely off the highway. We were in contact with Hyundai corporate (Case number XXX) and they have denied to accept responsibility for this design issue. We have seen numerous incidences of this online for exploding sunroofs on Hyundai Palisades. Our local Hyundai dealership inspected the sunroof and took record of the broken sunroof but they have denied to accept responsibility. We have filed a claim through Safeco insurance (Claim #XXX) and got the sunroof replaced through insurance. I have sent a case to Safeco for Subrogation for them to reclaim costs for Hyundai. We feel this is a significant design issue and will potentially cause other accidents in the future. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Passenger side window cracked while driving under normal driving circumstances. I have had this vehicle for less than 30 days
Driving on the highway, the sunroof exploded randomly. Glass blew up and out of the car, endangering anyone driving behind us. Glass also fell into the vehicle on myself and my pregnant wife. There were no warning lights or signs prior to this happening. This car is a certified pre owned car under warranty that had just gone through a full inspection prior to purchase in the fall of 2024.
Door locks clicking continuously for long periods, leading to "child safety lock failure" message displayed on dash. This occurred briefly last year and went away on its own, but issue has returned. Have received child safety lock failure message multiple times.
The Power liftgate RH lift cylinder (Passenger Side) snapped out and broke causing issue to open and close.
As I was driving, I heard A loud pop sound and then my sunroof shattered to pieces! It was not unusual weather or too hot or too cold. Why would this happen?
My trunk liftgate struts made of cheap quality and broken. Actually this could cause potential risk as i cannot close the trunk. The material is made of cheap PVC cracked for no reason.
As I was driving. The sunroof shattered without any object hitting it.
On April 19, 2024, while driving my 2022 Hyundai Palisade around 10:00 am (82 degrees outside) at a speed of 70 mph with no traffic ahead or behind me, my sunroof exploded. A very loud noise that startled my wife and me while driving. With no traffic on the road i was able to safely pull over and inspect the sunroof/damage. It left a semi round hole of shattered missing glass approximately twelve (12) inches in diameter. I then drove immediately to the nearest Hyundai dealer (Hyundai North - Covington LA). There service tech inspected it and said this issue has been happening often, but it is not covered under warranty, therefore, I would need to file an insurance claim to fix it.
Child safety lock malfunction Loud clicking noise followed by a child safety lock malfunction notice it does not happen every time
Rear occupany alarm has gone off after vehicle is off after exiting vehicle when vehicle is empty. This has occurred 5 times in the past 2 months and is random. The dealership is likely unable to duplicate issue so have not taken it in for this issue.
Sunroof exploded on Monday August 14 driving on highway going approximately 60 mph in Albuquerque NM. Thankfully both covers were closed at the time of the incident. 86 degrees and clear skies at 3:20 PM. Dash cam in place at the time of incident.
My sunroof exploded!! Nothing hit me, I wasn’t driving crazy. My family and I were on our way home from visiting my dad and we heard a loud bang, like a shotgun, and glass pieces. I pulled over immediately and saw the sunroof looks like it was punch from inside the car out. Just exploded! I had to google to see if this has happened before and surprised to see it has to other palisade owners. I got a police escort home because I had to drive really slow to get home safely. Incredibly scary for all of us.
When driving down the road with my 7 year old in the vehicle, the single moonroof spontaneously exploded. No warning signs whatsoever, the vehicle is garage kept and there was no impact to the roof of the vehicle. The glass exploded outwards. The safety issue this creates is the glass particles. The loud is incredibly startling which could cause an accident. This was confirmed to have happened before by a buyer at the servicing dealership.
The sunroof exploded while driving
Driving into work my sunroof just exploded. Nothing hit me it was like an explosion. I keep getting the run around from the Dealership and the Warranty company
Our vehicle was purchased and taken home on 04/29/2022. On 05/06/23 we took the care in for an alignment issue, as the car drives right off the road, to the right. Dealership said it was off, at 200 miles only. They realigned and gave it back. It happens again, right after leaving the dealership. Car was taken back again on 05/06/22 for realignment yet again. Dealership rotated tires and realigned. This did not work again. So the third time, 06/23/22 we received another rotate and realignment. Again, this did not help, and a new front strut was ordered. The would drive right off the road, to the right, every time. Creating a major safety issue for our two toddlers, and family. The front strut was installed on 10/12/22. The dealership has been frustrated due to not being able to fix the alignment. Mind you, brand new car, 2022 Palisade. Front strut put on, but the vehicle is veering right again. Even the driver who picked the car up said he noticed the problem. Cooperate said we must get a second opinion from a Hyundai dealership before they can intervene. We have taken this brand new car to the same dealer at 200 miles, 1,000 miles, 5,000 miles and most recently for the strut. We’re going to get into an accident and Hyundai beats around the bush.
While driving my car it loses all power steering, said something about lane assist, shows a red circle with an exclamation point. This is dangerous as I can't turn. The only fix is to attempt to pull over, turn the car off and let it reset. This has happened three times in the middle of traffic, nearly causing accidents.
When increasing speed once it hits 65 up to 75 the steering wheel shake/vibrates. This is not safe at this speed and uncomfortable to drive. The service manager drove it and agreed the issue was there. It has been into be fixed several times. I am told each time it is fixed, but when test driven it is still an issue. I have been told it is fixed, but I have told them it is not.
Rear differential failed and locked up at speed. No vehicles were behind at the time of the incident but could have easily caused a collision since the break lights weren't activated. Dealership confirmed the rear differential failed. Unable to inspect the components and the differential is going to be shipped to the manufacturer without being opened by the local dealership. Minor shudder felt a few moments prior to the complete failure and lock up and no warning lights came on before or after the incident.
