I JUST GOT IT A FEW MONTHS AGO AND HAPPENED TO LOOK UP RECALLS,AND SEEN 3 I TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WERE JUST 2 BUT ONE WAS SUSPENSION AND THEY HAVEN'T CALLED ME ABOUT IT IN AROUND A MONTH NOWB
THIS WAS COVERED BY HYUNDIA RECALL CAMPAIGN 124. I FILLED UNDER CASE # 9878948. SPRING REPAIR 2/12/14, SOLD CAR 4/5/14, RECALL 2/4/15. THEY ONLY WOULD PAY FOR $318 OF THE $917 TOTAL REPAIR AND SAID IT HAS TO GO TO A HYUNDIA DEALERSHIP. THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE SENSERS, STRUT MOUNTS , SWAY BAR LINK ETC PER THE INVOICE. I CONTACTED THE PERSON I SOLD IT TO AND MADE A DEALER APPMT BUT THEY DIDN'T SHOW. HYUNDIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS 800-633-5151 TOLD ME TO FILE A DISPUTE WITH BBB AUTOLINE WHICH I DID UNDER CASE # HYU1713624. THEY NEVER RESPONDED. BBB AUTOLINE NOW SAYS THAT THEY DON'T HANDLE RECALLS DISPUTES BUT YOU DO. I JUST TALKED TO THEM AND THEY REFERRED ME TO YOU. WITHOUT EVER TALKING TO ME, WHILE I WAS TRYING TO GET THE CAR INTO A DEALER AND WAITING FOR THE BBB AUTOLINE RESPONSE HYUNDIA CLOSED OUT THE CASE. IRONICALLY HYUNDIA WOULD HAVE REPLACED BOTH SPRINGS WITH OEM, ALL OTHER DAMAGED PARTS AND ANY DAMAGED TIRES PER THEIR RECALL. IT WOULD HAVE COST THEM 2X AS MUCH AS THE $917. THEY WOULDN'T EVEN CALL MY MECHANIC WHO THE LOCAL HYUNDIA DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED AS REPUTABLE. IN OUR CASE, THE BROKEN SPRING BENT THE STRUT, DAMAGED THE SWAY BAR AND TORE THE ABS SENSOR WIRE. THE LANGUAGE IN THE RECALL INFORMATION ACTUALLY CALLS FOR THE DEALER TO REPLACE INSTALLED NON-OEM STRUTS WITH OEM STRUTS SO THE NEW BRACKET WILL FIT PROPERLY. GIVEN THIS, I AM SURPRISED THAT YOU CHOSE NOT TO PAY FOR THE COST OF THE ONE STRUT AND MOUNT ($62.1 6 +$135.88) & REPAIR ($37.20) AND THE SPRING REPAIR ($37.20). LIKEWISE HYUNDIA CHOSE NOT TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGED ABS SENSOR ($175.94) AND ITS REPAIR ($55.80). IN MINNESOTA, LIKE MOST STATES, PARTS ARE SUBJECT TO SALES TAX OF 7.125%. IN THIS CASE IT ADDED UP TO ($45.25) WHICH HYUNDIA CHOSE NOT TO PAY. LIKEWISE HYUNDIA CHOOSE NOT TO PAY THE SHOP SUPPLIES ($13.18) AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL FEE ($4.93) WHICH ARE PRETTY TYPICAL.
I GOT A LETTER BY MAIL SAING MY CAR HAS A RECALL FOR * COIL SPRING FRACTURE* AND I HAD TO TAKE IT TO CHECK IT OR REPAIR IN CASE IT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. I WONDER IF THIS WILL HAVE A COST FOR ME OR I NEED TO WAIT TILLL THIS IS FRACTURED? THANKS IN ADVANCED FOR YOUR HELP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. IN OCTOBER OF 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V435000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND A PROTECTOR PLATE WAS INSTALLED ON THE FRONT COIL SPRING. IN APRIL OF 2016, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRING WAS CORRODED AND RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 176,000.
I RESPONDED TO HYUNDAI'S RECALL EMAIL AND WHEN I TRIED TO SIGN UP TO HAVE MY VEHICLE'S ISSUES RESOLVED AND SCHEDULE ELECTRONICALLY I COULD NOT DO SO UNLESS I AGREED TO ALSO SCHEDULE A RECOMMENDED SERVICE SUCH AS AN OIL CHANGE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOWERED. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRING HAD FRACTURED AND PART OF THE SPRING HAD PUNCTURED THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE CAUSING THE TIRE TO DEFLATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE COIL SPRING WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
HYUNDAI RECALL CAMPAIGN 124/THE DEALER ORDERED THE FRONT COIL SPRING ON 12/16/2014 AND HAS NEVER RECEIVED IT. HYUNDAI CAN NOT TELL THEM WHERE THE PART IS AND HAS NOT BEEN HELPFUL IN LOCATING ANOTHER PART. A TIRE BURST DUE TO THE RECALLED PART SO THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING UNDRIVEABLE AT THE MAGUIRE DEALERSHIP IN ITHACA NY FOR OVER A MONTH. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE FRACTURED. I WAS COMING HOME FROM THE STORE AND HAD JUST TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND STOPPED. I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE ENTIRE SIDE OF MY CAR COLLAPSED ON THE RIGHT SIDE. SOMETHING WAS STICKING INTO THE TIRE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERS AND REPAIRED. IT COST US OVER $500. IT WAS STILL UNDER THE DEALERS WARRANTY, BUT WAS NOT COVERED. WE FEEL WE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED. *TR
TOOK MY HYUNDAI SANTA FE IN FOR THE RECALL ON THE SPRING ISSUE. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND LOOKING AT THE WORK ORDER THAT LISTED THEIR ACTIVITY AS INSTALLING A ?FRONT SPRING PROTECTOR INSTALLATION,? I CALLED THEIR NATIONAL CONSUMER HELP NUMBER AND ASKED ABOUT THE PARAMETERS USED IN EVALUATING THE REPAIR DECISION. HER ANSWER WAS: THE DEALER WILL INSPECT AND DO EITHER A SPRING REPLACEMENT IF SEVER DAMAGE IS FOUND OR INSTALL A FRONT SPRING PROTECTION KIT AND SPRAY APPLICATION (OF SOMETHING) IF MODERATE DAMAGE IS FOUND. I QUESTIONED THE PARAMETERS FOR LEADING TO A DECISION, THE FIRST PERSON I TALKED TO SAID IT WAS THE DEALERS RESPONSIBILITY. I RESPONDED BY ASKING FOR A SUPERVISOR, AFTER TRANSFER SHE REPEATED THE PREVIOUS ANSWER. I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN MANY STRUCTURAL EVALUATIONS OF RUSTY STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS. ONE CANNOT JUST EYEBALL A SITUATION LIKE THIS, THERE ARE PARAMETERS FOR THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. I FOUND THE SUPERVISORS ANSWER, THAT SHE COULD NOT DIRECT ME TO A CORPORATE ENGINEERING OFFICE FOR SPECIFIC DESIGN PARAMETERS AND THAT THE DEALERS WOULD BE MAKING THE DECISIONS WAS QUESTIONABLE AT BEST IN TERMS OF THEIR ANSWER, WITH NO DEFINED EVALUATIVE CRITERIA AND THEIR RELIABILITY ON THE DEALERS TO MAKE A SAFETY CHOICE OVER A ECONOMIC ONE. THE RECALL WAS FROM HYUNDAI NOT THE DEALER I PURCHASED FROM. THERE WERE TWO OTHER INSTANCES RELATING TO RUST ON THIS CAR, THE CAR NEEDED TO HAVE ITS FUEL TANK REPLACED A FEW YEARS AGO BECAUSE IT WAS RUSTING AND LEAKING GASOLINE, I HAVE THE EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. LITTLE DID THAT HELP, THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NOT COVERED (WHAT DOES BUMPER TO BUMPER MEAN) AND DENIED COVERAGE. A SEPARATE ISSUE OCCURRED WHEN THE CAR DIED ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM MY SERVICE GARAGE, PUSHED IT IN, THEY FOUND A CORRODED WIRE (WHAT EVER) AND REPLACED IT. WHEN I CALLED FOR REIMBURSEMENT, THEY DENIED IT. *TR

2004 HYUNDAI SANTAFE BROKEN COIL SPRING RUBBING AGAINST THE FRONT TIRE. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN. I WENT OUT TO INVESTIGATE BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE NEXT MORNING I ATTEMPTED TO LEAVE FOR WORK WHEN I NOTICED A STRANGE NOISE. I COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE SOUND SO I TURNED AROUND AN PARKED THE VEHICLE BACK IN THE DRIVEWAY. IT WAS THEN I NOTICED A CURVED SHAPE PIECE ON THE GROUND WHICH LOOKED LIKE A HOTDOG WHERE MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED. I PICKED THE HOTDOG SHAPED PIECE OF STEEL APPROXIMATELY 3/4" DIAMETER. IT APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN BROKEN ON ONE END. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND IT TO BE A PIECE OF THE COIL SPRING ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE STRUT. THE COIL SPRING WAS NOW RUBBING AGAINST THE FRONT TIRE. LUCK FOR ME THIS DID NO HAPPEN WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, HEARD A LOUD POPPING AND CRACKING SOUND. GOT OUT TO LOOK. THERE WAS A LARGE "C" SHAPED PIECE OF METAL LAYING IN DRIVEWAY WHERE DRIVERS SIDE WAS. TOOK CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN. SPRING AND TIRE WAS REPLACED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. CONCERNED ABOUT PASSENGER SIDE NOW THAT UTE NOW HAS 88,000 MILES THAT WILL NOT BE COVERED IF OCCURS OUT OF 10 YEAR, 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. *TR
I DROVE TO WORK WITHOUT INCIDENT ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE AT 6AM. MY CAR WAS PARKED IN A SECURE LOT FOR 8.5 HOURS. WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE FOR THE DAY, I STARTED THE CAR, PUT IT DRIVE AND BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD. WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO MOVE I HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HAD HIM LISTEN TO IT BY PHONE. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO OUT LOCAL HYUNDAI DEAL WHO INFORMED US THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SPRING HAD BROKEN WHICH BROKE THE STRUT, PINCHED THE BRAKE LINE AND BENT THE SWAY BAR. TOTAL REPAIR COST WAS 1053.31 WITH TAX. WE OPTED TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT SPRINGS AND STRUTS BECAUSE WE FELT THIS WAS THE SAFEST THING TO DO AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERING THAT THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINT IN ALL SANTA FE'S NO MATTER WHAT THE YEAR ESPECIALLY AFTER READING THAT MANY OF THEM OCCURRED ON AN INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT 65 MPH RESULTING IN FURTHER DAMAGE AND INJURY ACCIDENTS. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A "CLUNK" SOUND IN THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND A "C" SHAPED PIECE OF METAL ON THE DRIVEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO MY MECHANIC'S SHOP, WHERE HE TOLD ME THAT THE COIL SPRING ON MY SANTA FE HAD BROKEN ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE COIL SPRING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS ALSO CRACKED. HE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH COIL SPRINGS. HE LATER TOLD ME THAT IT WAS UNUSUAL TO HAVE THESE SPRINGS BREAK FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I DECIDED TO GO ONLINE TO SEE IF HYUNDAI HAD ISSUED A RECALL OR WHETHER THIS WAS A PROBLEM FOR OTHER CONSUMERS WHO OWNED THIS VEHICLE. I FOUND NUMEROUS SITES WHERE PEOPLE HAD WRITTEN IN STATING THAT THEY HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM - IN MOST CASES, THE COIL SPRING BROKE AS THE OPERATOR WAS PUTTING THE 2004-2006 CAR INTO GEAR TO EITHER BACK OR, PULL OUT OF A PARKED POSITION. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE, AND GETTING BACK TO ME ON ANY FURTHER INFORMATION YOU MAY NEED FROM ME. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED MOST RECENTLY WHERE THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM.
