The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard a loud bang and scraping sound coming from the vehicle. The ABS and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the control arm and suspension had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 176,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while making a turn at 10-15 MPH, the contact heard a loud bang and scraping sound coming from the vehicle. The contact pulled over and discovered that the rear crossmember had detached. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the lower and upper control arm bolts were severely corroded; however, the contact was not yet informed of what needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V354000 (Suspension); however, the failure occurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
Rear lower control arm snapped
The rear suspension became corroded and one of the coils or bars broke off while driving. After the coil from the suspension broke off, it punctured a tire, which blew while driving. Thankfully, I had just exited the interstate, otherwise this would've happened at high speeds. This is a known issue that has previously been reported in a recall (113). The vehicle is registered in Ohio and has been since 2014.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle drove over a bump in the roadway and the steering wheel had to be turned all the way to the left to keep the vehicle going straight. The vehicle was taken to a non-Hyundai dealer who diagnosed that the cross member of the vehicle was entirely corroded, and the control arm had detached from the cross member. The contact stated that while checking the vehicle Carfax report, he became aware that the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V354000 (Suspension) had been completed on the vehicle prior to him owning the vehicle. The contact contacted Alexandria Hyundai (1707 Mt Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA 22301) where the recall repair was completed, and was informed that an anti-corrosion inhibitor was sprayed on the cross member of the vehicle instead of replacing the cross member. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 127,314.

REAR SUBFRAME ROTTED OUT AGAIN AFTER BEING REPLACED FOR A RECALL 5 YEARS AGO! WENT O GET A STICKER AND THEY SAID IT WAS ROTTED. GOING TO A HYUNDAI DEAL ON MONDAY THE 23RD TO FILE A COMPLAINT JUST WANTED TO GET THE CALL STARTED
FRONT SUSPENSION "WHEEL CONTROL FORK" BOLTS MUST CONSTANTLY BE TIGHTENED EVERY FEW WEEKS OR THE BOLTS WILL COME LOOSE CAUSING A "KNOCKING" NOISE WHILE DRIVING. IF LEFT UNTIGHTENED THE FORK WILL COME DISCONNECTED FROM THE SUSPENSION CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND POSSIBLE CAR CRASH.
DRIVER SIDE (LEFT) REAR SUSPENSION ARM ROTTED OFF . LOOKS LIKE WHERE IT WAS ATTACTED TO CAR, METAL ALL RUSTED .CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY RT 611 WHEN IT BROKE, HAD A VERY HARD TIME KEEPING IT ON ROAD TILL WE COULD PULL OFF. NO PHOTO AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
SUBFRAME COMPLETELY CORRODED, REAR TIRES ANGELED INWARDS, ALMOST LOST MY TIRES WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR ON FAIRLY BUSY ROAD. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP WHERE I AM BEING TOLD THEY WILL TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS AND SUBMIT TO HYUNDAI FOR HYUNDAI TO POSSIBLY COVER REPAIRS. SUBFRAME ROT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.
REAR CONTROL ARM SUPPORT IS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT CAUSING THE CAR TO BE UNSTABLE. THIS CAUSES ANY TYPE OF DRIVING HARD TO CONTROL. THE CONTROL ARM DOES NOT HAVE ANY UPPER ARM SUPPORT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN UNKNOWN NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WAS TILTED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN FRONT OF AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP, A TECHNICIAN INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CROSSMEMBER DETACHED AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO A HYUNDAI DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUTOFAIR HYUNDAI (1477 S WILLOW ST, MANCHESTER, NH 03103, (603) 634-0635) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CROSSMEMBER DETACHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V354000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 247,000.
TAKATA RECALL
I TOOK MY SONATA IN TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT SUB- FRAME WAS RUSTED/CORRODED AND WOULD NEED REPLACED. I WAS RESEARCHING THIS ON THE COMPUTER AND SAW THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON SAFETY ISSUE AND CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOOK MY INFO AND TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED, BUT I COULD AT MY OWN EXPENSE TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND HAVE IT EVALUATED. THEY GAVE ME A CASE # 10454251, I TOLD THEM I WAS GOING TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. MY CAR HAS 114,000 PLUS MILES ON IT.

THE CONTACT JACKED THE VEHICLE UP TO INSPECT UNDERNEATH AND NOTICED CORROSION ON THE REAR CONTROL ARM, WHICH HAD SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED TARBOX HYUNDAI (3665 QUAKER LN, NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI 02852, (401) 826-1500) WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
LOWER CONTROL ARM RUSTED AT FRAME CAUSED FRONT WHEEL TO SHIFT TO REAR AND STEERING ISSUES. DUE TO THE RUST DAMAGE THIS VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO OPERATE. THE SHIFT IN THE TIRE LOCATION OCCURRED WHILE ACCELERATING NORMALLY FROM A STOP ON A VILLAGE ROADWAY, GOING STRAIGHT IN TRAFFIC. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITH SUBSTANDARD STEEL AS HYUNDAI AS SINCE IMPROVED THE STEEL USED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS ON THIS MODEL. I FILED A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT REGARDING THE REAR SUBFRAME WHICH WAS REPLACED ON THE SAME VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR CROSS MEMBER HAD RUSTED AND FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V354000 (SUSPENSION), BUT THE CONTACT HAD NOT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.
REAR CROSSMEMBER HEAVILY RUSTING, I AM TOLD BY MY MECHANIC IT WILL LEAD TO CONTROL ARM FAILURE AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLIES, ALIGNMENT, AND THE LOWER ARM PLATE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE CROSS MEMBER LATER FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V354000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 161,000.
VEHICLE FRONT SUSPENSION MAKES SOUND WHEN WE DRIVE ON UNEVEN ROADS, BUMPS. CHECKED WITH COUPLE CLINICS, ALL SAYS DESIGN FAULT. I HAVE THIS SOUND FOR 2+ YEARS AND I AM WORRIED. FRONT BOTH TIRES SUSPENSION MAKES THIS SOUND.

CLUNKING , TRUNKING AND SQUEAKING NOISE FROM FRONT SIDE SIDE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS OR TURNING.COMPLAINED TO DEALER IN 2008 AND 2011 .THEY TEST TEST DROVE AND SAID IT IS NORMAL OR CAN NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM.IN 2016 THEY ARE SAYING IT NEED REPLACEMENT OF FRONT UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS COSTING AROUND $2000. I SEE FROM DISCUSSION FORUMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER MAY BE AVOIDING TO ADDRESS WHEN VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY.
MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS 83000 MILES AND ALREADY HAS BAD UPPER CONTROL ARM IN THE FRONT. I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS ISSUE THIS EARLY AND IT BEGAN WHEN I HAD LESS MILEAGE THAN 83000. I HEAR SQUEAKS WHEN GOING ON CRACKED PAVEMENT.

THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V354000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER DID NOT REPAIR THE CROSS MEMBER ASSEMBLY AND ONLY SPRAYED THE CROSS MEMBER WITH A COATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
PROBLEMS WITH RIGHT CONTROL ARM AND FROM STRUT MOUNTS. THUMP NOISE WHEN BUMPS ARE THERE. INITIALLY, THE DEALER SAID EVERYTHING LOOKS FINE. I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THOROUGHLY AND THEY SAID THAT PROBLEM WITH RIGHT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT IT COST AROUND $1220 TO REPAIR. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY ME AND MY FAMILY. A SIMILAR RECALL HAS BEEN DONE (NUMBER 113). IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO HEAR WITH NO FAULT OF OURS. THE HYUNDAI NEED TO TAKE CARE OF IT.
