Steering column coupler keep breaking
At this time steering column has a "click" or "clunk" sound when turning the wheel in either direction. Steering on this car has always been odd. You have to continuously adjust wheel as you drive to stay in your lane. I am going to have it checked by my mechanic. If I lose steering that's a pretty big safety concern.
I had been hearing a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel. The steering wheel also vibrates at speeds above 60. I took the car in for diagnosis and was told the steering column and assembly needs to be replaced. I had recently hit a pothole and noticed the noise and vibration was a lot worse. The dealership felt that could have been a cause of the increased noise and vibration. I was advised to file a claim with my insurance company. The insurance company said it was a known steering wheel issue with Hyundai.
The steering column is clanging over bumps and when steering which is a failure in the plastic steering shaft coupler. This coupler looks like an impeller. It is situated between the steering column shaft and the electric steering motor. The coupler is disintegrating and will lead to steering failure and high probability to death or injury of the cars occupants. This coupling failure is commom and found in perhaps thousands of Hyundai vehicles.A recall needs to be mandated immediately. If it is ignored then Hyundai needs to prepare for the lawsuits that will ensue
Steering wheel sticks at all speeds. Also, car often veers left or right then when correcting the steering will stick and I will have to jerk the wheel in the correction direction. This happens everyday. At high speeds it can almost feel as if I do not have full control of the car. Also when decelerating from high speeds the steering will shake. I take the highway often and it is at those time that I feel my safety and the safety of other drivers is at risk. I have went to my dealership (Universal Hyundai) with this complaint at least 3-4 times and they have told me there is no apparent issue. There has been no warning lamps, this issue first started happening in 2018.
There are multiple issue with this car since last a year or more. ( picture attached) * At times computer flashes below message .. " Hyundai System Warning Safety Stop Do not Drive" * Steering Lock up * While driving a screeching sound and then it goes away. we received the recall notice and my daughter Jeranica took it to the Hyundai dealer for repair. They charged us $900 mentioning the issue is with belt & assembly and engine is ok. we informed then of all the above issue. Even after repairing the above we still have the same issue with the car. It look like Hyundai dealer are using this opportunity to rip-off the customer instead of actually fixing the issue. we still have above issue with, car computer asking us to stop on highway and steering lockup, dealer does not seem to be interested in fixing the issue. At one time he mentioned we have 114K mileage on the car and the life of engine is finish.
POWER STEERING COUPLE PART# 563152K000FFF WILL BREAK AND STEERING WHEEL WILL BECOME LOOSER WITH A FEW MORE DEGREES OF PLAY BEFORE ABLE TO CORRECT STEERING. WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS VEHICLE WILL MAKE AUDIBLE CLUNKS, WHEN CHANGING DIRECTION OF STEERING WILL MAKE AUDIBLE NOISES AND HAVE ADDITIONAL DEGREES OF PLAY
there was a clicking noise and vibration coming from the steering column at 65 mph. Have an appointment with Joe Holland Hyundai on November 16th to get checked out. There was no messages prior to issue. 105,000 miles on car
MY CAR IS MAKING CLUNKING SOUND AND SHAKING IT IS BAD WHEN I PUT ON BRAKES SHAKES AND NOISE SOUND IS LOUD.
THE STEERING HAS BECOME LOOSE MAKES A VERY AUDIBLE CLUNKING SOUND WHEN STEERED LEFT AND RIGHT. THERE IS A SEVERE AMOUNT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING YOU CAN TURN IT UP TO 3 IN BEFORE THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY TURNS. IT ALSO CAUSES DRIFT DUE TO THE PLAY. IT MAKES THE CLUNKING NOISE EVEN WHEN SITTING STILL, ALSO HAS THE PLAY IN THE WHEEL WHEN SITTING STILL. IT WILL DRIFT WHILE IN MOTION AND HAVE THE SAME PLAY IN THE WHEEL AND CLUNKING.
THE STEERING COLUMN MAKES A VERY LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHENEVER YOU GO OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. MUST OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS. IT FEELS AND SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE OR WILL COME LOOSE. THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL I HEAR A CLICKING /CLUNCKING NOISE LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE OR BROKEN. WHEN I AM DRIVING AND GO TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL OR HIT EVEN A SMALL BUMP I HEAR A RATTELING / CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM SOMEWHERE IN THE STEERING COLUM.
THE STEERING WHEEL CLICKS THE STEERING WHEEL COUPLING HAS GONE BAD IN MOTION AND STATIONARY
STEERING WHEEL MAKES CLUNKING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS LIKE IT'S LOOSE SOMEWHERE. DEALERSHIP IS SAYING WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT REPLACE THE WHOLE COLUMN. BUT THEY SAY IT'S NO RECALL.
WHEEL CLICKING BADLY AT ALL TIMES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND MAKING A TURN, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 146,000.
CLICKING WHEN MOVING THE STERRING WHEEL FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHETHER MOVING OR SITTING STILL
STEERING WHEEL MAKES CLICKING AND POPPING SOUND WHEN WHEEL IS TURNED LEFT AND RIGHT, THE VEHICLE IS ALSO PULLING VERY HARD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE STEERING HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY LOOSE IN MARCH OF 2020. RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING OVER EVEN THE SMALLEST BUMPS IN THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL HAS STARTED TO RATTLE AND SHAKE AND FEELS LIKE IT MAY COME OFF. I WORK FROM HOME, SO THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN A LOT AND MOSTLY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 35 TO 55 MILES PER HOUR. I ASKED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT WHILE I WAS THERE LAST WEEK (9/22/20) TO HAVE A RECALL FIXED AND I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $150 JUST TO LOOK AT THE STEERING WHEEL UNLESS THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR IT. AFTER SEEING THE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE, THIS SHOULD CERTAINLY BE FIXED BY HYUNDAI VIA A RECALL. I WAS CONSIDERING REPLACING MY VEHICLE WITH ANOTHER HYUNDAI NEXT YEAR, BUT DUE TO THIS ISSUE, PROBABLY NOT. IT IS DISCONCERTING TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS THAT IT MAY BREAK. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ANY CAR AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40 YEARS.
STEERING COUPLER IS BROKEN BUT I CAN'T GET IT FIXED BECAUSE THE EXTEND WARRANTY ONLY GOES TO 100,000 MILES! I'M OVER THAT MILEAGE! THE PART IS VERY CHEAP BUT THE LABOR TO GET IT REPLACED IS OVER $300. PLEASE MAKE THIS A RECALL FOR EVERYONE ASAP!!! IT IS NOT SAFE FOR US TO BE DRIVING WITH THIS BROKEN PART!!
THE STEERING HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. INITIALLY I STARTED WITH MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKING OCCASIONALLY. THEN STARTED SMALL CLICKING AND CLUNKING NOISES WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL OR GOING OVER BUMPS. NOW THE NOISE IS ALL LOT WORSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO COME OFF AT TIMES. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUES AND YET HYUNDAI HAS NOT ADMITTED THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE BEEN BASICALLY PLEASED WITH THIS VEHICLE UP UNTIL THIS ISSUE STARTED. A LOT OF COMPLAINTS I READ WAS THAT THIS STARTED AROUND THE 100,000 MILE POINT, WHICH WOULD BE CORRECT WITH ME AS WELL, IT STARTED JUST BEFORE I HIT 100,000 AND HAS CONTINUED AND PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE.
WHEN DRIVING, MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES/RATTLES MAJOR ON HIGHWAY TO WEAR I HAVE TO HOLD THE STEERING TIGHTER TO TRY TO MAKE IT MORE SECURE. IT ALSO SHAKES/RATTLES JUST DRIVING THROUGH THE CITY AT LOWER SPEEDS. IT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE, SECURE OR NORMAL FOR THIS TO BE OCCURRING. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN THAT IS HAVING ISSUES AND JUST SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE OVER TIME.
THE HYUNDAI SONATA HAS A KNOWN STEERING ISSUE. THERE IS A LOOSE CLICKING SOUND WHEN STEERING. IT APPARENTLY IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY RUBBER COUPLING IN THE POWER STEERING MECHANISM. (PART # 57315 2K000FFF 'FLEXIBLE COUPLING'). THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL TO REPLACE THIS PART WITH AN IMPROVED VERSION.
MY STEERING WHEEL CLICKS AND ALWAYS FEELS AS IF I'M SWERVING. NOW ON THE HIGHWAY ,STARTS SHAKING ONCE TO 70 MILES AN HOUR. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN 2 WEEKS . RATTLED OR SHAKES REAL BAD GOING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS OR HITTING A SMALL WHOLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT IS EVENTUALLY GONNA CAUSE ACCIDENTS IF NOT FIXED . I ASKED THE DEALER SHIP IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS AND THE RESPONSE WAS NO AND THE COST WOULD BE $250 TO REPAIR.
CV AXLES HAVE A KNOCKING SOUND SINCE I BOUGHT CAR WITH 50 THOUSAND MILES
