Description of Incident / Failure The vehicle’s center infotainment/display screen malfunctioned and became partially inoperable. The left side of the screen displays vertical colored lines, while the remainder of the screen is dark/black and unresponsive. As a result, the backup camera display is no longer visible, and touchscreen functionality is severely limited or unusable. Component or System That Failed The failed component appears to be the infotainment touchscreen/display unit, including the integrated rearview (backup) camera display system. The vehicle and the defective screen are currently available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk This failure created a safety risk because the backup camera is required for safe reversing, especially when pedestrians, children, or objects may be behind the vehicle. Without a functioning screen, visibility is significantly reduced, increasing the risk of a collision, property damage, or injury while backing up. Reproduction or Confirmation The problem occurs consistently and has not resolved on its own. Each time the vehicle is started and placed into reverse, the screen remains malfunctioned and the backup camera does not display.
Owned since new, the vehicle has 19000 miles on it and the factory head unit is mostly delaminated. Will randomly go into and change vehicle settings or otherwise self modify stations/input while driving. This can be very dangerous depending on what it does without human input. This is a very common problem, unsure why there is not a recall for this.
Radio screen has completely gone out. The inability to use the backup camera causes safety concerns.
My Skylight has never worked properly since we bought my 2018 jeep renegade . It worked very slowly closing in the beginning so they lubricanted it and it worked for maybe a year before it started not fully opening before closing then fully opening and not closing .. Again I was told a lubrication issue But when I confronted that they just done the lubricant last year, they now say the only fix is to totally replace the entire skylight at ungodly cost to me not them.. That’s ridiculous.. I have read so many other owners that are having the same issue and the fact that they have found that there are parts to repair this problem but no one want to do so being the dealership just want to replace the entire skylight after they charge you ungodly cost to tell you they can’t fix it just replace it.. What will it take for Jeep to step up and do these repairs for its owners .. I love my jeep Renegade and hate to have a skylight I paid more to have not work .. I’ve owned my Renegade since June 2019 a gift from my husband. But knowing we paid for something we can’t use without added expenses that they can’t guarantee and want guarantee because they are replacing the entire skylight with another skylight that has the same problem .. I get it.. But we are just asking for Jeep to make repairs to the problem that they are well aware of for years now so we who own and love our Renegade can completely enjoy all the features we paid for..
My 2018 Jeep Renegade was manufactured in 2017..There is a recall on high oil consumption for this car.My car has burned oil since it was bought l every 3 months I bring it in to dealership and it is completely empty. It has stalled right in the middlle of traffic and shut off. As the car has gone up in miles the issue seems to be getting worse. I now run out every two months and there seems to be leading to other issues with the car. I have brought it in to the dealership and called Jeep to no avail. Obviously I have the same issues as the other Jeep renegades with the 2.4 engine and same years l. I do not I understand why a recall on my vin has not been put in l. I have spent alot of.money with all the extra oil and maintenance that's had to be been since the beginning. I feel this car will not last because of this issue through no fault but my own bit from a manufacturing error
Screen went completely black. Does not work. Backup camera now useless. Cannot use any of the function on the screen because it is all black.
The screen for the radio presents several vertical lines of discoloration before the screen goes completely black. There is no way to return the screen's display until you turn your car off, let it rest for a while, and start again - even then the display quickly reverts to unusable condition. This affects safety as this is the only way to use the backup camera and is the sole control center for many of the vehicle's functions. This appears to be a widespread issue, and the dealer is charging astronomical amounts for the repair of this defect.
I've seen many many many complaints about the touchscreen going out of blank which is used for the backup camera, would could be a hazard when backing out of tight spots. Mine has gone out and lots of others have complained.
Following updates To the computer system the radio touch screen develops lines and then blanks out. Can no longer use the vehicle backup camera, control the heat system and other vital systems on the vehicle as the display is unusable. Desler in Colorado Springs says this happens often, Jeep is aware of it but offers no guidance other than replacing the radio at the owners expense..appears in all model year
May u connect. It don’t always connect to my phone. A now the screen it gets lines a then the screen starts to go blank then it will be gin to roll a display the compass seems to only do this while it’s hot. Outside. Then the screen is hot to touch
back up screen
The touch screen has started to delaminate. It is currently still in the vehicle and available to review. The touch screen will randomly start "pressing" buttons. First this is a distraction to the driver as the radio station is changed, calls are randomly placed and setting are changed. Second you have settings that affect the way the vehicle physically brakes and steers that are configured via the Uconnect system, and that system has a defect that can cause those settings to change without the knowledge of the user, that’s a safety issue. Multiple sites have stated that this issue is common on 2017 and newer Jeep products. I will be taking it to a dealership to see what the replacement cost will be but the estimates from phone calls is around $800 to $1600. No warning other than the screen began to bubble and the the random "button pushing" began.
The console on the dash that shows the radio and back up camera view very frequently has white lines running through it. You can not see the screen. As a safety issue, you also can not see the camera view when trying to back up. It is a safety issue. I'm seeing on vlogs that many people have this same complaint.
Screen began to slowly go black. It started with 1/4 of it black and is now at 3/4 black. Touch still works, but I am blindly touching without being able to see what I’m selecting. This affects the back up camera as well. Soon it will be completely blacked out and I will not have access to system options, back up camera, and other settings I can only access through the screen! This is a safety issue and secondly a major inconvenience. Dealership replacements are quoted to be $1,700+!!!
Oil leakage problems
The Radio/ radio screen failed and continues to malfunction. While driving the radio was going bonkers and eventually called 911 by itself. The radio constantly changing stations and settings resulted in losing focus on the road and could have led to an accident. Dealer confirmed radio needs to be replaced. The component has not been inspected. There were no warning lights, or messages. Noticed bubbles on screen in 2020 or 2021. Didn’t know it would go bonkers and behave independent like it did when the problem occurred earlier this year
The Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen is changing channels, and other features, and in addition, changes the temperature in the car. This is a safety hazard as it is distracting, and is making the vehicle unusable, and uncomfortable to use. I have contacted Chrysler customer care several times and keep getting the run around in getting the Uconnect replaced, and have not gotten a resolution.
Vehicle is not throwing a code or check engine light but is sputtering and stalling or losing power while driving. This can be when I’m slowing down or accelerating. It’s done it on the interstate and while approaching a red light. I have taken it to the dealership and they said there is nothing wrong with my vehicle and they can not find the issue. I had them check the fuel pump since that was the closest issue I can find to my issue. They said the fuel pump has no issues. There has to be a reason why my car is shutting down while driving and not all the time. It will do it one day and not again for weeks or months and then do it back to back and then nothing again for a while. There has to be a reason why my Jeep is acting like this and not triggering a light or code and the dealer is unable to resolve it.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The back manual sunroof broke off on the highway going 60 mph. The sunroof flew onto the highway while the hinge that was attached to the sunroof flew off hitting me while driving. It is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was physically hit with the piece that broke off, and if there was a car driving behind me, the sunroof flying off could have caused an accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Vehicle will be going to Jeep dealership on 6/7/2023 Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The component will be inspected by Jeep on 6/7/2023 Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no symptoms prior to failure. Sunroof had not been opened in 3 years, we only used the front automatic sunroof which is also displaying signs of failure.
sunroof would not retract to closed position. I tried to reset the module to get the sunroof to close and pieces were heard breaking inside as the mechanism tried to close. I believe the glass is no longer on the track system. sunroof mechanism does not work anymore
Uconnect radio system developed a delamination issue resulting in phantom touchscreen presses that began activating various vehicular systems including the climate control system, infotainment system, and most importantly, the SOS system that then proceeded to dial 911 multiple times without user input.
Uconnect 8.4 infotainment system screen starts to delaminate and melt causing the screen to push buttons randomly and distract the driver.
I am not sure what component has failed but it cause the car to stall where ever it is located without time to maneuver the vehicle to a safe area. I have had the oil consumption test completed multiple times, I have had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership on multiple occasions. I try not to drive the car on the highway due to the possibility of the car stalling at speeds of 70 mph and would pose a risk to myself and others. The dealer did witness the problem the last time I had the car towed, as they had a difficult time getting the car off of the flatbed because it wouldn't start. The dealer has only changed the battery and alternator, they have not resolved this issue and I have had this issue since I purchased the car new in 2019. They have all of my service tickets to back up my claims but refuse to fix the problem. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealership that it was purchased from. All of the warning lights flash when the vehicle stalls. After researching on google, this is a common problem and there is a class action lawsuit that has been filed and is in progress. I am not sure what is causing this but I do have to get oil changes before it is time for my scheduled oil change which would lead me to think this is related the oil consumption or fuel pump issues that have been reported. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle. The vehicle is actually at the dealership now and they are telling me that it is ready for pick up after only fixing the battery and alternator.
On several occasions the sun roof will not close. when you try to close the vent it will open it self all the way and will not close. There have been times it started to rain and could not close it because it would move forward then go back all the way open. I took it to the dealer and they said if something is in the track it will not close. That includes water if you wash the windshield.
Left the store, stopped at a red light, car started acting like it was out of gas and stopped running, no “idiot” lights came on, no check engine nothing, put vehicle in park to restart (said on) and it would jerk like it was out of gas every time fir over 30 minutes I sat at a light and was unable to keep the vehicle started/running. Finally someone offered to push the car and it just started, too it to the dealer and because it was on a Saturday and the service department was closing in 5 minutes they refused to run a diagnostic test it sat there over the weekend and Monday they said that there was nothing wrong and to drive it for 1,500 miles and bring it back in, although car is still acting like it doesn’t want to shift or stay running, they said that because my VIN was not on the recall list they would only fix it if I paid out of pocket for it and the vehicle has less than 35,000 miles on it
