My Mercedes has never been recalled for the Takata air bag recall and now I have a warning about the SRS, Supplemental Restraint System. What ever happened to vehicles having replacement air bags??
The contact owned a 2007 Mercedes Benz C230. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V918000 (Air Bags) and would like to be removed from the recall distribution list. The manufacturer was notified. The local dealer was not contacted regarding the matter.
On 9/18/23 we were hit head on by a person driving a large ford. The air bags deployed on my CClass. I was unable to see after the accident. My nose is huge! Face is bruised. I had severe eye pain. Neck pain etc. There was chrome on the floor after the deployment. Major concern what was in this airbag. However, I’m sure it saved my life. My car is totaled. It was a fabulous car. We had scheduled a sunroof recall next week at Mercedes in New London, CT. I learned of this recall after my car recently past emissions. My car only had 39,000 miles. I’m going to miss it.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND ARM REST AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING OVER RAISED PAVEMENT MARKERS IN A CONSTRUCTION LANE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. BOTH OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRES WERE FLATTENED AND THE ALUMINUM RIMS WERE BENT. THE CONTACT WAS SORE, BUT WAS NOT INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME AND THEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TWO TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,224. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V081000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,224.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 20-30 MPH, WHILE IT WAS RAINING AND WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE SKID OFF THE ROAD AS A RESULT THE CONTACT WENT UP ON THE SIDEWALK AND CRASHED INTO A FIRE HYDRANT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A LEG INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE AND LATER TOWED TO AN INSURANCE TOW LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WILL BE AN INVESTIGATION AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V081000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. TAKATA RECALL MERCEDES SENT ME A LETTER SAYING MY LOCAL DEALER HAD PARTS TO FIX THE AIRBAG. MY LOCAL MERCEDES DEALER SAID MERCEDES DID NOT SEND THEM ANY PARTS FOR ME. MY CAR IS NOT FIXED AND NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE CAR SPENT MOST OF ITS LIFE IN GA ONE OF THE ZONES THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED FIRST. I CANNOT CUT THROUGH THE DISHONESTY WITHOUT HELP.

TAKATA RECALL I HAVE NOTIFICATION FROM MERCEDES AND NHTSA NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THE RECALL PART IS READY AND THAT I SHOULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. HOWEVER, EVERY TIME I MAKE APPOINTMENT, THE DEALER (MERCEDES-BENZ OF PLANO,TEXAS) THEY HAVE NOTHING AVAILABLE FOR MY BOTH OF MY CARS. NOT ONLY THAT, THEY CANCEL APPOINTMENTS IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT WAS MADE AND WAS NOT COURTEOUS IN THEIR RESPONSE ON ALL OCCASIONS.

TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE CALLED MBZ OF ANAHEIM ON NOV 11 2017 AND THEY ANSWER THAT NO PART IS AVAILABLE FOR SCHEDULING THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO. THANK YOU
TAKATA RECALL: MERCEDES BENZ'S AIRBAG RECALL WAS ISSUED IN FEBRUARY 2016 AND, ALMOST 2 YEARS LATER, STILL NO REMEDY IS AVAILABLE. MERCEDES HAS STILL NOT OFFERED ANY REPAIR (OR MITIGATION) FOR THE DEADLY AIRBAGS THEY INSTALLED IN THEIR VEHICLES. IT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT, AFTER TWO YEARS, MERCEDES HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP ANY REPAIR OR MITIGATION FOR THIS DEADLY DEFECT. HOW ABOUT AN "OFF" SWITCH FOR THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS UNTIL MERCEDES CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THEM?
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF MY CAR IS ANNOUNCING ME TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET THE AIR BAGS CHECKED BUT I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT HAS A RECALL ON THE AIR BAG . IT HAS BEEN ABOUT A YEAR SICE I HAVE HAD THAT ISSUE AND EVERY TIME I ASK THE DEALERSHIP THE JUST ASK ME TO WAIT UNTIL THEY RECEAVE THE PARTS TO GET THE RECALL DONE
