CHECK ENGINE CAME ON I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY BALANCE SHAFT GEAR AND I RECEIVED A $5000 (FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS) ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, HE TRIED TO REPLACE THE CAMSHAFT EXHAUST BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON, HE THEN DETERMINED THE SAME PROBLEM FAULTY BALANCE SHAFT GEAR... MY CAR IS ONLY 74000 MILES NOW, SO MUCH FOR A MERCEDES BENZ CAR UNDER 100,000 MILES..HOPE THIS TO BE A RECALL. *TR

FAULTY BALANCE SHIFT AND IDLE GEAR. REPLACED MANY COMPONENTS TO RECTIFY THE ISSUE ONLY TO FIND A STAR BULLETIN WAS AVAILABLE FOR THE FIX. ORIGINAL FOUND WHILE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTED AND TECHNICIAN FAILED TO FIX. NOW THAT CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, WILL INCUR A 6K FIX ON WHAT SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE OR SUBSTANDARD PARTS (BALANCE SHAFT SPROCKET AND THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDE WHEEL(IDLER)

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE AND WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT CONCLUDED THAT THE ENGINE VACUUM PUMP WAS LEAKING OIL AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THEN WENT OFF. TOOK TO THE DEALER TOLD CODE WAS FOR GEAR IN THE BALANCE SHAFT AND THAT THE JOB WOULD BE $6000. TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT THEY WERE WILLING TO PAY 50%. IF NORMAL WEAR WHY WOULD THEY EVEN PAY. CAR HAD 93K MILES. SEE THAT THIS IS A 2006 MERCEDES E350 ISSUE AND NOT JUST WEAR. NEED TO HAVE A RECALL. SEE THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN PROGRESS AGAINST THIS FAULTY PART. *TR

THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAME ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MAINTENANCE AND ASKED THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS ASSOCIATED WITH A FAULTY BALANCE SHAFT AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SOONER THAN LATER OR ELSE IT COULD CAUSE ENTIRE ENGINE TO STOP WORKING WHEN IT FAILED. THE QUOTED PRICE FOR REPAIRS WAS AROUND $5500 WITH A $1000 DISCOUNT. ONCE HOME, WE RESEARCHED "FAULTY BALANCE SHAFT ON 2006 MERCEDES BENZ E350" AND FOUND THE FIRST WEBSITE TO HAVE INFORMATION OF A CLASS ACTION LEGAL SUIT IN PROGRESS AGAINST MERCEDEZ BENZ OVER DEFECTIVE BALANCE SHAFT GEARS IN MERCEDES BENZ M272 ENGINES & IDLE GEARS IN MERCEDES BENZ M273 ENGINES. IT WAS DISCONCERTING TO REALIZE THAT A VAST NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS WITHOUT GETTING RELIEF FROM MBUSA. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO SEE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE OF DEFECTIVE ENGINES FROM A MANUFACTURER WHO COMMANDS A PRICE PREMIUM FOR ITS "SUPERIOR ENGINEERING" AND YET DOES NOTHING TO CORRECT A SERIOUS AND WIDESPREAD FAULT. FROM THE VARIOUS REPORTS, INCLUDING THOSE IN THE LAWSUIT WEBSITE AND ONLINE FORUMS, MBUSA HAS FAILED TO ASSIST CUSTOMERS WITH THESE ISSUES, IN MOST CASES CITING THAT VEHICLES ARE PAST WARRANTY COVERAGE AND THEREFORE THE OWNERS MUST COVER THE COST OF REPAIR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT, RATHER THAN "WEAR AND TEAR" THAT THE CUSTOMER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR. MERCEDES BENZ MUST PAY FOR THIS PROBLEM, NOT THE CUSTOMER.

I OWN A MERCEDES BENZ 2006 E350 AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT AROUND 54K MILES. HAD IT CHECK OUT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED IT WAS A CAMSHAFT SENSOR, I HAD THEM REPLACE IT AT A COST OF $550. NOW AT 57K MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON WITH THE EXACT SAME CODE, CAMSHAFT SENSOR. UPON RESEARCH THIS IS AN ENGINE/ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE. THIS IS A BALANCE SHAFT ISSUE COMMON ON THE M272 MERCEDES BENZ E350 BUILT B/T 2005-10. COST TO FIX IS DOCUMENTED @ $5,000-$8,000. *TR

FAILURE OF THE BALANCE SHAFT (DEFECTIVE) CAUSING LOSS OF ENGINE TIMING AND ENGINE SKIPS AND STALLS. MERCEDES BENZ HAS CONCEDED IN TECH BULLETINS TO THEIR DEALER REPAIR SHOPS THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT FOR 2005-2007 E-350 AND OTHER MODELS. THE DEALER REPAIRED MY CAR AND MB PAID 60% OF THE BILL AS A CONCESSION. REPAIR REQUIRED 30 HOURS OF LABOR (REMOVAL OF ENGINE, REPLACEMENT OF BALANCE SHAFT AND OTHER PARTS AND THEN REINSTALLATION OF ENGINE). COST WAS $4,000 AND MY OUT OF POCKET WAS $1,900. *TR

MOTOR OIL LEAKING FROM CAMSHAFT PLUGS AND FROM CAMSHAFT SENSORS LEAKING ON TO HOT MOTOR AND ON TO HOT EXHAUST COMPONENTS CREATING SMOKE WHICH ENTERS THE HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM CAUSING THE NEED TO OPEN WINDOWS IN WINTER. HAVE REPLACED TWO CAMSHAFT PLUGS AT ABOUT 12 MONTHS AGO AT ABOUT 70,000 MILES AND SCHEDULED ANOTHER SERVICE CALL FOR CAMSHAFT SENSOR LEAKING OIL AT ABOUT 88,000 MILES. INTERNET SITES SHOW SIMILAR FAILURE ON CAMSHAFT MAGNET SENOR COMPONENT. *TR

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OCCURRED AT 45000 MILES AND REMAINS ACTIVE TO DATE. DURING THE FIRST OCCURRENCE THE DEALER PERFORMED AN INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, REPORTED NO ISSUES, AND ADVISED THAT THE LIGHT SHOULD BE IGNORED AS A FALSE ALARM. SUBSEQUENT TO THE INITIAL INSPECTION THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICING, AT WHICH TIME A PART (CAM SENSOR) REPLACEMENT WAS PROVIDED. MOST RECENTLY THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR EPA SANCTIONED EMISSIONS TESTING AT A FACILITY IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN. THE VEHICLE FAILED THE TEST. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER; HOWEVER NEITHER ARE PROVIDING A COST FREE SOLUTION TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS QUOTED A MINIMUM COST OF $6500, AND STILL NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE. IT IS MY POSITION THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A PREEXISTING CONDITION, AND THAT THE DEALER FAILED TO INFORM THE NATURE AND MAGNITUDE OF THE PROBLEM AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. FURTHERMORE IT HAS BEEN DISCOVERED THE NHTSA HAS RELEASED SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE MENTIONED ISSUE. AT THIS POINT IT IS UNCLEAR HOW AN EPA SANCTIONED REQUIREMENT CAN BE FULFILLED IF THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER ARE FAILING TO PROVIDE A REMEDY. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING VIOLENTLY. THE JERKING WOULD INTENSIFY WHENEVER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE TACHOMETER GAUGE DISPLAYED BETWEEN 50-70 IN THE RED ZONE WHENEVER SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES,THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND DROVE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIMING BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, TWO HEAD GASKETS WERE BLOWN AND ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN 30 DAYS. THE FIRST REPAIR ONLY CORRECTED THE FAILURE FOR A FEW WEEKS. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED SO THAT THE VEHICLE CAN BE PROPERLY REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
