TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS (BEDFORD NISSAN, 18115 ROCKSIDE RD, BEDFORD, OH 44146, (855) 981-4531) AND (GANLEY'S MAYFIELD NISSAN, 6060 MAYFIELD RD, MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OH 44124, (440) 449-9500). BOTH DEALERS STATED THAT THEY COMPLETED RECALL REPAIRS, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONDITION WAS THE SAME AS PRIOR TO THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS NOT PROVIDED WITH A DIAGNOSIS TO REMEDY THE FAILURE FROM THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A TUNE-UP BUT, MONTHS LATER, IT CONTINUED TO FAIL TO START INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE RECALL DETAILS, VIN, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.

I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY HUSBAND AND 3 GRANDCHILDREN AFTER HAVING DINNER NOTICED SMOKE AND EXITED THE ROAD WAY TO FIND THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER HOOD, THE INSIDE OF CAR FILLED UP WITH SMOKE BEFORE WE COULD EXIT, WE CALLED 911 AND THEY RESPONDED, THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED FROM AN ELECTRICAL FIRE WAS ALL WE WERE TOLD, THEY TOWED THE CAR AWAY WITH OUT ANY INVESTIGATION, WAS WONDERING IF ANY RECALLS HAVE CAUSED THIS? THE CAR IS AT LAUZONS TOWING IN MALONE NY, ALL WE COULD THINK OF AT THE TIME WAS TO GET THE CHILDREN OUT OF THE COLD AND OFF THE HIGHWAY THEN TO SEEK WHAT HAD CAUSED THIS. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE MAKING THIS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR IS TO KEEP THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW, REACH OUT AND OPEN THE DOOR, THEN CLOSE WINDOW, SHUT OFF CAR, AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS STALLED - ENGINE STOPPED - IN TRAFFIC SEVERAL TIMES. THE CAM AND CRANK SHAFT SENSORS ARE THE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND NISSAN REFUSES TO RECALL THESE PARTS. IT IS ABSURD THAT THE SAME PARTS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR OTHER ALTIMAS BUILT IN THE SAME YEAR, YET SEVERAL VINS, INCLUDING MINE, WERE EXCLUDED. THE RECALL FOR MY VIN WAS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER TO PREVENT THE FAILED PARTS FROM TELLING THE COMPUTER TO SHUT THE CAR OFF. THIS RECALL HAS DONE NOTHING TO PREVENT THE ISSUE. WE HAVE A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONE DAY AND THEN IT WENT OFF. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND WE HAD IT DIAGNOSED AND THE CODE INDICATED IT WAS ELECTRICAL, BATTERY, OR CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. SAME DAY WE GOT IT DIAGNOSED WE WENT TO START THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. WE CALLED AAA TO HAVE CAR TOWED. WHILE WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK WE TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED. WE STARTED DRIVING CAR TO GET IT TO BE REPAIRED AND WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING AND MY DAUGHTER HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND EVERYTHING. SHE PULLED INTO SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY. WE CALLED AND HAD CAR TOWED TO LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY. I CHECKED THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY RECALLS AND IT INDICATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN SALEM, NH AND SPOKE TO A GENTLEMAN IN SERVICE AND EXPLAINED ABOUT THE RECALL. HE ASKED FOR THE VIN NUMBER AND SAID THERE WAS NO RECALLS. I DISPUTED IT WITH HIM AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO AND THAT IT WOULD COST APPROX $100 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE AND APPROX $125.00 PER HOUR TO REPLACE PLUS PARTS. I THEN CALL NISSAN CONSUMER SERVICE AND THEY ALSO SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I AGAIN DISPUTED AGAIN THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I THEN HAD THE CAR REPAIRED AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR (THE RECALLED PART). WE PICKED UP THE CAR DROVE DOWN THE STREET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR. I CALLED NISSAN CUSTOMER RELATIONS AGAIN ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEY STATED THERE IS STILL NO RECALL FOR THE SENSOR ON MY VIN. SHE SAID THAT SHE COULD HELP US BY REFUNDING THE REPAIR COSTS. SHE ASKED WHERE I HAD IT REPAIRED AND I TOLD HER AT A LOCAL REPAIR CENTER. SHE SAID I CANT HELP YOU BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET IT REPAIRED AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THEY SHOULD OF TOLD ME THIS. *TR

I HAVE HAD THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COME ON AND TWICE I HAVE HAD THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR REPLACED IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. PERIODICALLY MY CAR WILL STALL, SOMETIMES WHEN I AM MOVING, AND OTHER TIMES IT IS REALLY HARD TO START. I HAVE ONLY 42000 MILES ON MY CAR. I WROTE A LETTER TO NISSAN AND HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. CAR RESTARTS, HARD, AND IS DRIVEN TO FT LAUDERDALE DEALERSHIP. $100 DIAGNOSTIC REVEALS CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND 2 CAM SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. OUR SON, SERVICE WRITER FOR NISSAN IN TEXAS, TELLS US THE DEALERSHIP HAS DOUBLED THE ESTIMATE AND TO KEEP LOOKING FOR A MECHANIC (SINCE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY). TELLS US THE MAXIMA FOR THIS YEAR HAS A RECALL FOR THIS BUT NOT THE ALTIMA WITH 3.5L. WE DRIVE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC,STALLING SEVERAL MORE TIMES, IN RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC, HE ESTIMATES $600+/- AND WE LEAVE CAR FOR REPAIR WHILE I ENTER THE HOSPITAL FOR BREAST CANCER SURGERY. CAR IS REPAIRED WHEN I LEAVE HOSPITAL, HUGE BILL COMES OUT OF MY POCKET, AND NISSAN WILL NOT CONSIDER REIMBURSEMENT, ALTHOUGH MANY HUNDREDS OF THESE VEHICLES ARE EXPERIENCING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS! NO RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED, NO NOTICE OF THE ECM RECALL WAS RECEIVED AND THE CAR IS NOW SLUGGISH ON ACCELERATION. CAR IS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED, USES ONLY PREMIUM GAS AND OTHERWISE A GOOD VEHICLE TO OWN. COMPUTER CODES SAY CRANK POSITION SENSOR AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. IF CODES ARE CLEARED (AND AFTER VEHICLE COOLS) THEY REAPPEAR IMMEDIATELY AT THE STALL POINT. TIME TO STALL VARIES APPARENTLY WITH HEAT. 2003 NISSANS ARE UNDER VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN SAYS THIS VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IT SHOULD BE. I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA THAT WHEN DRIVING WILL CUT OFF. THIS OCCURS AT LEAST 4 OR 5 TIMES WHILE DRIVING. I RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THE CAR IS UNDER RECALLED. AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO A DIAGNOSTIC SHOP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CODES MATCHED THE RECALLED PART. NISSAN DEALERSHIP LOCATED AT 2207 WAKE FOREST ROAD, REFUSE TO MAKE THE REPAIR TO THE RECALLED PART. THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST STATED THAT THE CAR WAS CUTTING OFF BECAUSE OF THE RECALLED PART AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIR CLAIMING THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FIRST AND THEN THEY WOULD MAKE THE REPAIR JUST IN CASE OTHER CODES ARE FOUND AND IF OTHER CODES ARE FOUND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM RESET BEFORE THEY WOULD FIX THE RECALLED REPAIR. I HAVE A DAUGHTER ( 3 YEARS OF AGE) AND I AM CONCERNED THAT I WILL GET HIT CAUSING BOTH OF US INJURY.

ON OR ABOUT JAN. 20, 2006 WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLES' CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD CUT OFF. WE TOOK IT TOOK IT TO FONTANA NISSAN FOR REPAIRS. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO US ON JAN. 28, 2006. MAYBE 2 - 3 HRS. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE, WE WERE DRIVING TO L.A. AREA AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WE CALLED THE SERVICE MGR. AT FONTANA NISSAN AND HE SAID TO BRING IT BACK AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT ON THE FOLLOWING MON. WELL, WE NEVER MADE IT BACK BECAUSE WHILE WE WERE IN ROUTE HOME (FONTANA) I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE IT WAS SHUTTING OFF ON THE 91 FWY. TO THE 605 INTERCHANGE. AFTER THE CRASH, THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY REPAIRED THE EXTERNAL DAMAGES (BODY WORK) BUT THE INTERNAL WAS NOT FIXED. THEN IN JUNE 2006 WHILE DRIVING HOME, THE CAR CUT OFF AGAIN. FONTANA NISSAN SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY. SO WE PURCHASED A BATTERY. I REFUSED TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE WE FEEL THAT THE NEXT TIME WE MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY. IN JAN. 2007 THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE NISSAN ALTIMA FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WE HAD AND CONSEQUENTLY CAUSED THE CRASH. WE WERE BEING REPRESENTED BY A LAW FIRM BUT AS TIME PASSED OUR WARRANTY EXPIRED. I AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WHICH I HAVE NOT DRIVEN SINCE 2006. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOMEONE'S HELP IN THIS SITUATION. *TR

I HAVE HAD MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2003 SINCE MAY OF THAT YEAR. STARTING A YEAR AGO I BEGAN TO NOTICE SIGNALS ON MY DASH INDICATING CHECK ENGINE. I THEN WAS PULLED OVER FOR A NON WORKING TAIL LIGHT. I HAD IT FIXED AND A DAY LATER THE BULB BLEW LATER. I CHANGED THE BULB THREE TIMES BEFORE THEY ISSUED A RECALL ON THAT WIRE. SOON THERE AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AGAIN NOW THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE SITTING AT THE LIGHT. I THEN RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE ON THE COMPUTER CHIP WHICH CAUSES A FAULTY SIGNAL TO THE STARTER. I TOOK THAT IN TO GET FIXED. A MONTH LATER THE CAR WOULD BEGIN TO SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS MOVING. I TOOK IT BACK INTO NISSAN, THEY EXCLAIMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO FIX. AFTER THE SAME OCCURENCE CONTINUED I THEN TOOK IT TO OTHER MECHANICS WHO WOULD SEE THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY COMPUTER CHIP WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR I PAID ABOUT $1,800 IN REPAIRS AND STILL THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND I BECAME SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR DUE TO THE SEVERITY. I THEN CALLED CUSTOMER CARE FOR NISSAN WHICH EXCLAIMS THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THEM , PAY $80.00 AGAIN TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG. THERE IS ANOTHER RECALL ON THE NISSAN ALTIMA, PERTAINING TO THE COMPUTER WHICH CAUSES THE CAR NOT TO RUN. THEY DENY THIS AND I AM LEFT PAYING FOR A CAR THAT DOES NOT WORK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO, BUT I HAVE MET OTHER OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

IN JANUARY 2006 I BEGAN EXPERIENCING STALLING EPISODES WITH MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2003 WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WOULD WITHOUT WARNING STALL. THIS OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE AND TWICE HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO WORK ON I95. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE ISSUE UNTIL FEB 2007 (IN THE MEANTIME I DROVE THIS UNSAFE CAR). IN FEB 2006 A SENSOR WAS REPLACED THAT HAD BEEN CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I PAID CLOSE TO $2,000 IN UNNECESSARY REPAIRS AND WAS CHARGED FOR A RENTAL CAR. I FOUND TODAY THAT NISSAN IS OFFICIALLY REPORTING MY 2006 ISSUE AS A RECALL. WHILE I'M VERY THANKFUL THAT I WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED OR HAD A CAR CRASH THAT RESULTED IN ANYONE ELSE BEING HURT BY THE UNIDENTIFIED RECALL AT THE TIME OF MY EXPERIENCE I WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE COMPENSATION FOR THE FUNDS THAT I PAID AND I'M NOT SURE HOW YOU PLACE A PRICE TAG ON THE CAR STALLING SEVERAL TIMES AND 2 OF THOSE TIMES BEING ON 195. I HAVE RECEIVED TO DATE AFTER MONTHS OF WORKING DIRECTLY WITH NISSAN AND PRIOR TO TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT FINALLY THAT NISSAN IS RECOGNIZING MY ISSUE AS A RECALL AND HOPEFULLY SAVING SEVERAL FUTURE ACCIDENTS AND/OR FATALITIES A SMALL CHECK FOR $550.11. 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS AT THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL ECM RE PROGRAM , AFTER THAT DOWN HILL , DEALER TOLD ME THE CODE ALSO CALLED FOR A CATALYTIC CONVERTER , THE CAR STALLED 15 TIMES, ONE TIME I HAD TO STAY OVER NIGHT ON A FAST FOOD PLACE. NEXT DAY A MECHANIC CHANGED THE CRANK POS SENSOR , THEN CALLED FOR ANOTHER SENSOR SIMILAR ON SHAPE , THEN BACK TO THE DEALER, THIS TIME THE CAR ACCELERATES FOR NO REASON , THEY TRY TO CHARGE ME FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC(FOR CATALYTIC AGING) THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER (AND I HAVE THAT IN WRITING) THAT I NEED A THROTTLE ? CHAMBER 959+ TAX. FINALLY I THINK I MAKE A MISTAKE GOING IN ON THE FIRST PLACE OR THE SAME ISSUES THE 2002 ALTIMA HAD IS REPEATING ON THE 2003 AND NISSAN IS WAITING FOR SOMETHING REAL BAD TO HAPPEN, BY THE WAY , I CALL THEM ABOUT 6 TIMES AND NO REAL SOLUTION JUST PASSING THE BUCK. *JB

WELL I HAVEN'T NECESSARILY "CRASHED" YET. I TOOK MY CAR INTO TOWN NORTH NISSAN OFF 183 DUE TO A RECALL NOTICE THAT WAS SENT TO MY HOME. I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK, AS THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD NEED IT FOR AT LEAST A DAY, 2 1/2 HOURS LATER. I NOTICED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I TOOK THE CAR BACK IMMEDIATELY THE FOLLOWING DAY. NOBODY WAS WILLING TO HELP ME. SO LATER THAT EVENING I TOOK MY CAR TO THE AUTO ZONE TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTICS SCAN DONE ON IT. SURE ENOUGH THE PROBLEM WASN'T FIXED. IT STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING WHICH WAS THE KEY TO THE WHOLE PROBLEM AS THIS CAN CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE. MY CAR HAS COMPLETELY TURNED ITSELF OFF ON MY WHILE DRIVE (HOWEVER THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION). *NM

TWO DAYS AGO, MY CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING LOT. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE CAR TO A SAFE LOCATION SINCE I AM SIX MONTHS PREGNANT AND UNABLE TO PUSH A CAR. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO NISSAN OF ELK GROVE, WHERE THE NEXT DAY THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED CRANK POSITION SENSOR. I WAS UPSET, BECAUSE I HAD THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR REPLACED LAST YEAR AFTER MY CAR STARTING CUTTING OUT ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE SAME DEALER DETERMINED THE CRANK SENSOR NEEDED REPLACING. I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE CRANK SENSOR YESTERDAY AND ASSUMED THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED. HOWEVER, AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT, MY CAR STALLED AND I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART IT. I PROMPTLY INFORMED THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR NISSAN OF ELK GROVE, AND HE MANAGED TO START MY CAR AFTER WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY. HE DROVE IT AROUND FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR ALMOST "CUT-OUT" ON HIM A FEW TIMES AND THAT THE RPM NEEDLE WAS "STIIF" AND "ACTING STRANGE". PRESENTLY, MY CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALER WHILE I AWAIT AN UPDATE ON THE CAUSE.

THE 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA RECENTLY STARTED STALLING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. INITIALLY IT HAPPENED WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THEN PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION THERE WAS MINIMAL RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. THEN YESTERDAY AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE CAR HESITATED BRIEFLY BEFORE ACCELERATING AND THEN WITHIN SECONDS ALL POWER WAS LOST. IT TOOK NEARLY 15 TRIES TO RESTART, AT WHICH POINT, I PARKED IT AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO WA STELLING ME THAT THERE WAS NO SIGN THAT THE CRANK SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WAS WHAT I WAS TOLD WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM), AND THEREWAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO IF THEY CAN'T GET IT TO REPEAT WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY. A MONTH AGO, I HAD II AT DEALER WHEN THIS PROBLEM ORIGINALLY OCCURRED AND THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED. I WAS TOLD THAT IT TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM IN ABOUT 85% OF THE CASES. I' WAS AT A LOSS. I HAVE ONLY ONE CAR AND I NEED IT TO BE RELIABLE. I COULD NOT TAKE A CHANCE OF BEING ON THE INTERSTATE AT RUSH HOUR IN A CAR THAT MIGHT DECIDE TO STALL ON ME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR AND THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THE DEALER CHARGED HER $190.13 TO REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. SHE THOUGHT THE COST WAS COVERED BY THE RECALL AND FELT THAT SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED. THE RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. NO FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED AT THIS TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 57,300 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS INAPPLICABLE.
