THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND WOULD NOT RECEIVE A SECOND FREE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. *BF CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT 60 MPH IT SHUTS OFF. CONSUMER SAYS THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS, CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS, AND VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSORS CODES CAME UP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THE VARIABLE TIMING SENSOR FAILED, WHICH WERE BOTH CONNECTED TO THE CIRCUIT BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HEADQUARTER NISSAN (1725 WHITTLESEY RD, COLUMBUS, GA 31904) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ONLY RECALL PERTAINING TO THE VEHICLE WAS FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V287000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
THE CAR EXPERIENCES SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED ENGINE POWER, U NABLE TO REV ABOVE 2500 WITHOUT IT FEELING LIMITED. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPS RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER OR BRAKE TO GET TO A SAFE LOCATION.THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES THIS PAST WEEK AND I HAVE STOPPED DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I'M NOW WONDERING IF THE DEALER ACTUALLY PERFORMED THE RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN #03V455000) BACK IN 2003!!! THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS AGAIN.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING HOME ON FREEWAY MY NISSAN ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING IN EXCESS OF 65MPH AND BEING THAT ITS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION IT TRIES TO START FROM ROLLING BUT JERKS REAL HARD LIKE THE BRAKES ARE LOCKED UP AND IVE ALMOST WENT OFF THE ROAD 10 TIMES. IVE TRIED CHANGING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR BUT CANNOT LOCATE IT AND ALL AREA AUTOZONES DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS EITHER. FROM WHAT IVE GOT MY CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN PART OF THE SENSOR RECALL BUT HAS BEEN FAILING FOR THE LAST 2 1/2 YEARS AND RECENTLY BLEW A COIL PACK FROM THE DAMAGED SENSOR. ALSO THE CAR WONT START ON ONE QUICK TURN IN A MILLISECOND LIKE IT USED TO, IT TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS OF TURNING OVER TO START EVERYTIME NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, VARIOUS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE STALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE ROADSIDE AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY FOR A SHORT DISTANCE BEFORE THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE DEFECT WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART AND APPROXIMATELY TWENTY MINUTES LATER, THE VEHICLE SUCCESSFULLY RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED MOMENTS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. COMPLETING TUNE UP ON VEHICLE WHEN OIL WAS FOUND IN SPARK PLUG TUBE WHICH COULD HAVE LED TO ENGINE FAILURE/FIRE. NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NOTIFIED AND FAILED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. SHOULD BE SEALS/GASKETS BETWEEN VALVE COVER AND SPARK PLUG TUBE SEALS. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT EARLIER AND LATER MODELS OTHER THAN 2002 AND 2003 MODELS HAVE THE SEALS INSTALLED FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT STALLED FOUR TIMES AFTERWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY AND A MECHANIC CONCLUDED THAT THE CAM-SHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED. HE NOTIFIED THE DEALER IN REFERENCE TO RECALL# 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). HE WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 117,482.
THE SIDE MOUNTED ENGINE IN NISSANS (ALL MODELS USING THIS MOUNTING METHOD) SEEMS TO CREATE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH ENGINE MOUNT FAILURE WHICH SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN USE FOR SOME EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN I WAS CHECKING ON THE REPAIR OF A YOUNG FRIEND'S NISSAN, ANOTHER DRIVER CAME IN WITH A NISSAN THAT SEEMED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MY YOUNG FRIEND BOUGHT THE CAR USED SO I DON'T KNOW IF THERE WAS EVER A RECALL. REPAIRS (PARTS AND LABOR) ARE ABOUT $500. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,189.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED COMING ON. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, VEHICLE STARTED STALLING IN TRAFFIC, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GET REAR ENDED. TROUBLE SCANNER SHOWED CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR A- BANK 1 CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. STARTED CHECKING THE PROBLEM ON THE COMPUTER, AND FOUND SOMEONE ELSE HAD THE PROBLEM AND PAID DEARLY TO GET IT FIXED. USING CAMPAIGN NUMBER PROVIDED, 03V455000, DISCOVERED 2002 MAXIMA GLE, VIN [XXX], WAS NOT COVERED. READ COMPLAINT NUMBER [XXX]. OBVIOUSLY, THE 2002 MAXIMA WAS NOT IN THE RECALL. I WAS SURE THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. DO I HAVE AN OPTION IN THIS CASE. *AK UPDATED 07/10/2012 *JS
THERE WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL (RECALL ID # 03V455000) FOR MY 2002 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN THE SPRING OF 2004. THE RECALL SPECIFIES THAT THEY WILL REPLACE BOTH THE "CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S)". THEY ONLY REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR PER THEIR SERVICE ORDER AND THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR(S). *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN 01V357000 CONCERNING THE ENGINE. HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO FAIL INSPECTION. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED NO OBVIOUS PROBLEMS, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH DETECTED A PROBLEM WITH THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSORS. BOTH CRANK SHAFT SENSORS WERE REPLACED AS WERE THE PREVIOUS SENSORS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE THE REPAIR WAS NOT PERFORMED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. *AK UPDATED 2/7/2006 - *NM
2002 NISSAN MAXIMA CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH P0139 AND P1147 CODES. DEALER PERFORMED A REPAIR UNDER TSB NTB02-051A. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT A TSB. COST IS $480. *NM
THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO PERFORM THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR WELD RECALL 03V455000 FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS. *JB
CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PROBLEM TWO TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE VEHICLES CRANK SENSOR FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO LOSE POWER. *NM
THIS INCIDENT INOVLVES MY NISSAN MAXIMA 2002 SE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING ON I-25 IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CAR STARTED TO BUCK AND ENGINE POWER WAS SEVERELY REDUCED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO LESS THAN 45 MPH AND JUST MISSED BEING HIT FROM BEHIND BY THE FOLLOWING TRAFFIC. I WAS FORTUNATE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND WORK MY WAY OVER TO THE SHOULDER. WHEN STOPPED THE CAR STALLED AND WAS DIFFICULT TO RESTART. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AT VERY REDUCED SPEED (<45 MPH). THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME OF A CURRENT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FOR THE CAR AND THAT SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (3 YR/36000 MILE) CURRENT MILEAGE 37500. I WOULD HAVE TO INCUR THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT WITH THE MASS/FLOW SENSOR ACCORDING TO THE BULLETIN AND I WONDER WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL TYPE REPLACEMENT. I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY TO BE HERE WITH SUCH A SEVERE PRODUCT DEFECT. ESPECIALLY ONE THAT IS EASILY REPAIRED AND SHOULD BE INSTITUTED IN CARS CURRENTLY IN SERVICE BUT NOT YET REPAIRED. NISSAN'S RELUCTANCE TO INCUR THE COST OF MY REPAIR JUST BECAUSE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY IS A BAD CUSTOMER RELATION MOVE ON THEIR PART, BUT BESIDES THAT I BELIEVE NOT RECALLING THIS PART PUTS OTHER MOTORISTS AT RISK.
