TRANSMISSION SLIPS, JERKS HAS ISSUE AFTER ISSUE.. ALSO HAVING CATALYST ISSUES (EXHAUST, HEAT SHIELD ETC). *TR
I HAVE BEEN FEELING A JERKING IN MY CAR, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE THE MOTOR IS MOVING AROUND. I HAD THE MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED, BUT STILL WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HAVE NOW FOUND OUT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH WILL COST ME $3200.00, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE SHOP THAT A LOT OF 2005 MAXIMA ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS, IF THIS IS TRUE WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL? *TR
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WHICH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE! BUT ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER THE CAR WAS WARMED UP AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR ABOUT 20 MIN.S OR SO THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ACT UP WHEN I WAS BETWEEN 2 AND 3 RPMS AND WOULD EITHER REV THE ENGINE OR TAKE ABOUT 5 TO 10 SECONDS BEFORE SHIFTING GEARS WITH A ROUGH CLUNK NOISE AND A HARD JERK. THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN I GO FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE IT WOULD TAKE A WHILE AND THEN MAKE A ROUGH JERK BEFORE CHANGING GEARS. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN OR THRUST INTO ANOTHER CAR WHEN CHANGING GEARS ABRUPTLY. *TR
I AM TOLD THAT I AM EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE. AFTER CAREFUL RESEARCH, AND TWO MECHANIC OPINIONS IT HAS BEEN TOLD TO ME THAT NISSAN KNEW THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL OF MAXIMA AND HAS NOT OWNED UP TO THIS PROBLEM. NEITHER HAVE THEY RECALLED OR TRYING RIGHT THEIR WRONG. THESE ITEMS ARE THE LIFE OF THE CAR. I HAVE ALSO CHECKED THE REVIEWS ON EDMUNDS.COM AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OWNERS OF THIS SAME CAR THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES AND COMPLAINTS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT MEASURES CAN BE TAKEN AGAINST NISSAN FOR THEM OWN UP TO THESE DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS. IT WILL HURT THEM IN THE LONG RUN IF THEY DO NOT. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED WITH AND IT STARTED JERKING 2 MONTHS LATER. IT HAS GOTTEN TO BE REALLY BAD NOW! AND VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE READ MANY MANY MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I DONT WANT MONEY OR A NEW CAR, I JUST WANT MY CAR FIXED. BAD TRANSMISSION. *TR
I LIKE MANY OTHERS AM HAVING THE EXACT TRANSMISSION "SLIPPING, JERKING" PROBLEMS BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. THE RPM'S JUST JUMP RIGHT UP UNDER ACCELERATION, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS THEN CATCHES CAUSING A JERKING, LURCHING FORWARD ACTION. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY COMING ON TO A MAJOR HIGHWAY. BECAUSE OF THIS I WILL NOT LET MY WIFE AND CHILDREN DRIVE IN THE CAR. WE CANNOT AFFORD THE QUOTED $3500 TO $4000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. NOR DO WE FEEL AS IF WE SHOULD HAVE TO. WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE NEW. IT HAS BEEN VERY RELIABLE BUT THIS IS ABSURD. NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THIS MODEL YEAR AND REPLACE WITH CORRECTED TRANSMISSION BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. OR IS THAT WHAT IT'S GOING TO TAKE TO GET THEM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. *KB
TRANSMISSION, EXPERIENCING JERKING WHEN IN 1ST & 2ND GEAR. EVEN WHEN IM ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND TRY TO SPEED UP AGAIN MY CAR WILL HESITATE AND JUMP INTO GEAR. I ALSO WAS EXITING FREEWAY WHEN MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, I COULD NOT STEAR, LUCKY FOR ME THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. I HAD BOTH OF MY KIDS WITH ME AT THE TIME!! I BELIEVE THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND HAVE HEARD MANY NISSAN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AND THE CORPORATION IS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND DOWN SHIFTING THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK FORWARD. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE TRANSMISSION AND MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE MOTOR WAS CRACKED. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY AND OVER TIME BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
I BOUGHT MY USED CAR FROM A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP WITH APRX. 74000 MILES ON IT IN FEB 2010. SHORTLY AFTER I STARTED FEELING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING ROUGHLY IN THE LOWER GEARS. I TOOK IT IN TO A REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP IN JUNE 2010 AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY KIND OF DIAGNOSTIC CODES IN THE COMPUTER FOR THE TRANSMISSION, BUT TOLD ME THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN AND NEEDED REPLACING. I REPLACED THE ENGINE MOUNT AND ALSO HAD THEM FLUSH AND PUT IN FRESH TRANSMISSION FLUID AT THAT TIME AS WELL. AGAIN VERY SHORTLY AFTER I STARTED FEELING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING ROUGHLY AND IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AND EVEN STARTED SLIPPING INTERMITTENTLY!! I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES AGAIN. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT HUNDREDS OF 2004 AND 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS WERE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS!!! I HAVE SEARCHED FOR ANY RECALLS, BUT THERE ARE NONE!! I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WERE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE STATED THAT HE HAS DEALT WITH THIS ISSUE WITH OWNERS OF THIS MAKE, MODEL ,AND YEAR!! I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN AND SPOKE WITH THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPT, BUT THE ARE NOT WILLING TO HELP IN ANY WAY. I BELIEVE, AS WELL AS HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS, THAT NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS DEFECT, BUT IS UNWILLING TO ISSUE A RECALL TO THE PUBLIC!!! I THINK THIS IS COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE AND NEGLIGENT ON NISSAN'S BEHALF AND HAS SHATTERED MY FAITH IN THEIR COMPANY.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED THE ENGINE MOUNTS 4 TIMES. NOW AT 88,000, I AM TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I AM 47 YEARS AND HAVE OWNED MANY CARS IN MY LIFETIME. I RESEARCHED THIS TOPIC AND FOUND MANY AMERICANS WITH SIMILAR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WHO OWN 2004-2005 NISSAN MAXIMAS. THE CAR JERKS FORWARD WHEN GOING FROM 2-3 GEAR, NEUTRAL TO REVERSE AND NEUTRAL TO DRIVE. ENGINES REVS HIGH WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING AND JERKS FORWARD WHEN DRIVING. THIS IS A PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND ENGINE FIRES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK ABNORMALLY WHEN DRIVING 35 MPH AND ABOVE. WHEN SHIFTING GEARS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE TO TEN SECONDS BEFORE ENGAGING AND THE ENGINE WOULD EXHIBIT AN EXCESSIVE INCREASE IN RPMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO RECOMMENDED HAVING THE VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH UNDER 90,000 MILES. I AM EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE CAR JERKS WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND DOES THE SAME THING GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. I STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND I TOOK THE CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHICH I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A TRANSMISSION/ENGINE MOUNTS WHICH WERE REPLACED, AFTER A WEEK THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME, BUT I READ THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THERE HAS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH SHOULD BE A RECALL. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN SUGGEST CAN DO PLEASE HELP. MY WARRANTY IS OVER AND I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES WAS TAKEN TO NISSAN SERVICE SHOP AND WAS SAID TO NEED A PART REPLACED IN TRANS. AND TIMING CHAIN NEEDS REPLACING ALONG WITH MOTOR MOUNTS. AFTER REVIEWING MANY WEBSITES THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE HAS 1000 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. TRIED TAKING TO 2 DIFFERENT NISSAN REPS AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD OR WOULD DO ABOUT THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT.. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER FOR MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA, AT APPROXIMATELY 80K MI MY CAR BEGAN HESITATING SLIGHTLY. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DETECTABLE WITH A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE, BUT THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS POSSIBLY A MISSING ENGINE MOUNT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT A TRANSMISSION FLUSH MAY ALSO HELP THE PROBLEM. THE FLUSH FOUND NO PARTICLES AND DID NOT STOP THE HESITATION. MY LEASE ENDED AND I DECIDED TO KEEP THE CAR. THIS HESITATION HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORST OVER TIME AND CULMINATED WITH ALMOST LOST OF POWER WHILE TRAVELING FROM MY HOME TO THE MALL TONIGHT. THE CAR HAD VERY LITTLE POWER AND MADE A LOW HUMMING SOUND. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AS OTHER CARS WHIZZED BY. BY THE TIME I PULLED INTO THE RESTAURANT AND TRIED TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPACE THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE. I TURNED IT OFF THEN ON AGAIN THAT HELPED AND I WAS ABLE TO REVERSE. GOING HOME THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE RPM NEEDLE KEPT GOING UP TO 4-5 THEN HESISTATED BEFORE COMING DOWN. I AM SCHEDULED TO WORK TOMORROW AND I MUST NOW SEE ABOUT HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EVALUATION. I AM AT A LOST I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED LUNGE AND FORCEFUL ACCELERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING IN THE FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD GEARS. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000. UPDATED 03/04/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO COMPLAINED THAT WHEN ACCELERATING, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD JERK. THE DEALER FOUND INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS BURNED. ALSO THE FRONT AND REAR ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN. THE CONSUMER HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE SHIFTING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. 08/11/10. *JB
TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM WITH 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. AFTER HAVING MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED (DIFFERENT COMPLAINT), THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES BREAKING AND THAT MY TIMING CHAIN AND CORRESPONDING PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1600. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A PROBLEM BECAUSE MY CAR IS NOT OLD AND SHOULD NOT NEED THIS REPAIR. I DID RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF CASES WITH THE SAME DEFECT IN NISSAN MAXIMA'S. I WOULD LIKE MY COMPLAINT HEARD AND A POSSIBLE RECALL DONE IF POSSIBLE. THIS IS CLEARLY A NISSAN DEFECT AND PROBLEM AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE CAR. *TR
