I purchased a used 2015 Nissan Pathfinder last year. Recently the passenger airbag light does not turn off. After searching the internet, I found their was a recall for this issue in the past. I contacted Nissan, and to my dismay they claim the issue had been addressed for my vehicle and will not pay to have the issue resolved. I am unsure that having a passenger in my car is safe.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the passenger's side air bag. The contact was informed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V244000 (Air Bags); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 94,000.

The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor needed to be replaced, and a repair fee was charged. The vehicle had no issues after being stopped for three days the airbag light on the dashboard started to flash and the passenger airbag-off light is on even with a passenger seated on.

I WAS BACKING FROM A PARKING SPACE WHEN I STRUCK A PASSING CAR WITH THE BOAT HITCH ON MY REAR BUMPER. IT WAS A LOW-IMPACT COLLISION AS WE WERE BOTH MOVING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT. AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE CAR TO SPEAK WITH THE OTHER DRIVER, I RETURNED TO FIND THAT ALL OF THE AIR BAGS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR (INCLUDING FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND CURTAINS FROM THE FRONT WINDOW TO THE REAR) HAD DEPLOYED. NO ONE WAS IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF IMPACT BUT ME. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR DEPLOYED. I KNOW NISSAN HAS HAD PASSENGER AIR BAG PROBLEMS IN THE PAST AND BEFORE THE ACCIDENT, MINE OFTEN SHOWED THAT AIR BAGS WERE ON WHEN NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. YOUR DATABASE SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY VIN NUMBER SO I ASSUME THAT PREVIOUS OWNERS HAD THE MATTER ADDRESSED BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN 2018. MY CIRCUMSTANCE ISN'T IDENTICAL TO THE AIR BAG RECALL BUT IS CERTAINLY IRONIC. ALTHOUGH I WASN'T HURT, THE AIR BAGS SURELY DIDN'T HELP ME. THE WRONG ONES DEPLOYED AND WILL COST $6,500 TO REPLACE. I HAVE RECEIVED 2 NOTICES CONCERNING THE NHTSA RECALL 16V-244. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN OF GADSDEN IN GADSDEN, AL SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY TELL ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART IN STOCK TO FIX MY VEHICLE.

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN MAY REGARDING THE OCS THAT AFFECTS THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JUNE AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE NOT IN YET FOR REPLACEMENT. I WENT AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER AND WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE ON MANUFACTURER RESTRICTION AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLACE/REPAIR. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY AIR BAG SENSOR EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT THE AIR BAG WOULD DEACTIVATE. ORIGINALLY THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT MY PURSE MUST BE TO HEAVY AND IS KNOCKING OUT THE CALIBRATION. THE SECOND TIME I GOT A LESSON ON HOW TO SIT IN THE SEAT PROPERLY. FINALLY, NISSAN ADMITTED THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND ANNOUNCED THE RECALL. SINCE IT WAS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY THE DEALER PUT ME ON THE TOP OF THE LIST TO CALL WHEN THEY RECEIVED THE PARTS. SATURDAY I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THE AIR BAG OCS SENSOR RECALL REPAIR. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP AFTER THE SERVICE I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYED ON CONTINUOUSLY. ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL "AFTER PLACING THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION, THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES. THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WILL TURN OFF AFTER ABOUT 7 SECONDS IF THE SYSTEM IS OPERATIONAL". I WENT BACK INSIDE AND MENTIONED IT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT WAS THE FIX THAT NISSAN IMPLEMENTED. THE WARNING LIGHT IS NOW ON CONSTANTLY UNLESS SOMEONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT AND GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING IN THE NISSAN MANUAL. ADDITIONALLY, HAVING A WARNING LIGHT ON AT NIGHT IN THE VEHICLE IS A DISTRACTION.
