Chronological view of owner reports
I am reporting a failure of the Around View Monitor / camera system on my 2023 Nissan Pathfinder. The system stopped functioning completely without warning. Pressing the camera button does nothing, the camera cannot be activated through vehicle settings, and no camera views (rear, front, or surround) are available. Parking sensors and the infotainment screen continue to work, indicating a system-level electronic failure rather than user error or a single camera issue. This vehicle relies on the camera system for rear visibility and low-speed maneuvering. The loss of this system reduces driver visibility and increases the risk of collision, especially when reversing or parking. The failure occurred despite normal use and maintenance, with no prior warnings or messages to the driver. The vehicle is only a few years old, yet the repair involves replacement of a major electronic control module at significant cost. This appears to be a premature failure of a safety-related electronic system. I am concerned this may affect other vehicles of the same model year and configuration.
Vehicle Year: 2023 Make: Nissan Model: Pathfinder Platinum 4WD VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 24,500 Date First Noticed: October 8, 2025 Problem: The panoramic sunroof drain system is defective, causing water to leak into the cabin during rain, dripping from the driver-side overhead console and door area. This matches Nissan TSB NTB23-073 (Oct 9, 2023), which admits a design flaw in the front drain grommets (Part #76938-5NA0A) leading to poor drainage and clogs—even from normal environmental debris like sand in Florida. The vehicle was built November 2022, well within the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. Nissan dealer (Nissan of Naples) inspected (Oct 9, 2025) but performed an inadequate diagnosis: only a photo of sand in the tray, no water intrusion test, no drain line analysis, and no TSB verification. They charged $207.54 and denied warranty, claiming "environmental concern" and "outside influence" (sand clog, not defect)—contrary to the Owner's Manual (pp. 2-121/2-122), which requires zero drain maintenance. Nissan Consumer Affairs (Case XXX) upheld the denial, refusing written explanation. BBB complaint (NIS2519919) and FL Lemon Law Form 1A filed Nov 6—still unresolved. Safety Risks: - Mold/mildew growth in headliner (health hazard). - Electrical shorts in overhead console (lights, controls, airbags). - Driver distraction from water dripping near visor/windshield. This defect impairs safe operation and could affect others. Nissan must recall/fix under warranty. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
AVM cameras stopped working. The Pathfinder is a large vehicle with inherent blind spots. The rearview camera system is essential for safety. The problem was inspected and verified by local Nissan dealership (Jim Kerras Nissan of Jackson, TN). The problem is unresolved and dealership has made very little effort to reconcile. The issue started for no apparent reason and the vehicle is just outside of the warranty mileage. 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum with 41000 miles.
Mold & Mildew smell is coming from air vents every time vehicle starts. Bommarito Nissan of hazelwood first said they smelled something when we brought it in. But they said we must’ve spilled a drink and suggested we clean our carpets. We knew that wasn’t true but we had it professionally cleaned and aired out. The dealership also replaced both filters and cleaned the evaporator. The smell didn’t go away so we brought it back. Now they’re just saying they “don’t smell anything out of the ordinary..” This is a certified vehicle, like new.. We’re very concerned for our health and safety. And the dealership isn’t going to help.
The car shifted into neutral all by itself. I had to completely put the vehicle in park, then put it back in drive.
REAR VIEW TILT DOWN MIRRORS MIRRORS NOT WORKING CAN NOT SEE TO BACK UP I HAVE HAD THE CAR TO 5 DEALERS MANUFATURER HAS REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT THEY KEEP SAYING EVERYTHING IS WORKING CORRECTLY THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNALS THE DEALERS ALL HAVE SAID THE MIRRORS ARE WORKING PROPERLY. MY PROBLEM IS WHEN THE CAR GOES INTO REVERSE YOU CANN OT SEE BECAUSE ONE MIRROR DOES NOT TIP DOWN SO YOU CAN SEE THE ROAD.. I HAVE OWNED 4 NISSAN CARS AND ALL 4 CARS THE MIRRORS ALL TILTED
While driving, car shifts into neutral on its own. It happened as I was driving on the highway at 75 mph and out of nowhere i realized my car was in neutral causing me to redline and slowed down while trying to change lane and almost causing an accident. Thank god I was driving and was able to respond in time by shifting back into drive. Happened twice in one hour on a road trip
Nothing happened
I purchased my vehicle in april 2023. Everything had been going good until here recently. I had just gotten home, I left my keys in the cupholder, and shut my door to get my 11mo old daughter out of the back seat. All my doors locked, my daughter was left in the car for 45 minutes until my husband (left work) arrived with the spare. This has happened 4x here recently. I contacted Orr Nissan of Fort Smith, AR who told me there was nothing they could do because there are no recalls. I then called back, and asked to speak with the manager who said the same thing- no recalls, and nothing they can do about it. They also told me that until someone else mentions the same problems then they would even issue a recall. That it was up to corporate. I was also told that if I want anything to happen then I need to file a complaint with the BBB, which I have already done. My concern is my child who has been stuck in the car 4 different times within a week. No lights came on, no messages, I couldnt get to my daughter for 45 minutes. that is the main safety concern.
The panoramic sunroof exploded while I was driving on the interstate. The sunroof cover was closed thankfully or I could have been severely cut by the glass. You can tell by the photos I am attaching that it blew up from the inside out.
I just bought my pathfinder and it has under 600 miles. As I drive the vehicle, it will automatically switch over to neutral right in the middle of the highway and has almost caused accidents and a loss of my life. I have done research on the internet and discovered that over a dozen 2023 Nissan Pathfinder owners experience the same issue and Nissan has refused to resolve the issue. I called Nissan America and they opened up a case which is Case#494-216-94 and they refused to provide me with a way forward. The vehicle has been with the Passport Nissan Dealership at 500 Auth Way, Suitland MD, 20746 Maryland for over a month now and whenever I try to obtain a status they get upset and continue to tell me that the vehicle has warranty and that I should purchase more warranty. I went to the Passport Nissan Dealership again this morning 8/9/2023 and asked to speak with the manager for more information. The manager told me that I am wasting his time. My vehicle is still with the dealer and Nissan American does not have any solution. At this juncture, this vehicle us unsafe and unfit for the road. NHTSA needs to act immediately before this becomes catastrophic and fatal.
Brand new 2023 pathfinder shuts off while driving. Car will turn off completely on the highway, while getting close to a light or trying to park. Once car is restarted it turns on again fine. One time the car did go crazy on the panel and it was fuzzy. The dealer has checked the car 3 times and keeps saying there’s no issue.
I was sitting in traffic for a couple minutes and when I stepped on the gas to go, it bogged and stalled. I could not get it turned on and it went into neutral. It finally came back on after sitting in the middle of a busy road for about 3-4 minutes. Then just minutes later it did it again. Same sit and wait lucky I was able to let it roll to the side of the road this time. It was very unsafe due to the heavy traffic and now I am worried about whether I can trust my car. What if I need to get some where in an emergency and my brand new car stalls out. It is a worry I should not have to carry after spending that kind of money on a so called reliable car.
It is very difficult and sometimes impossible to shift it to the Neutral position even with your foot on the brakes. Sometimes you have to attempt it three or four times after it being in the drive position. You can move it forward strongly and softly it does not matter...this needs to be adjusted/corrected as sometimes we have to put it into neutral position and it will not work. I see this as a safety defect.
