The vehicle sustained major damage in a collision totaling the vehicle and no airbags deployed
On 6/22/25, I was in a side-impact collision while turning into a gas station. A driver waved me through, but another car came rushing through the outer lane and hit the front passenger side of my 2014 Nissan Sentra. The impact caused serious damage, but none of the airbags deployed. There were no warning lights before or after. My hip hit the emergency brake during the collision. I felt okay at first, but I’m starting to notice some discomfort now. I also have scoliosis, which makes even small impacts something I have to watch closely. My VIN shows no recalls, but I’ve found this model has had known airbag issues. I’m reporting this as a serious safety failure. If this had happened at higher speeds, it could’ve been fatal.

The contact stated that the air bags had not deployed. The vehicle was driven by the contact's granddaughter to a repair shop. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Airbags failed to deploy during collision. Driver was injured. The issue can be seen, so was not confirmed by service center. The vehicle will be inspected by insurance adjuster. No advance warning light/message forecasting problem with airbags. Incident involving 3 vehicles: Driver was in slow traffic on highway but traveling approximately 35 miles per hour. Car in front braked suddenly, causing driver to brake, causing car in back to brake suddenly. The rear car was unable to stop and plowed into the driver's vehicle, Nissan Sentra, sending it into the front car. The front of the Nissan suffered heavy impact and was badly damaged, but the airbags did not deploy. The driver of the Nissan suffered a labral tear in the shoulder.

The contact's daughter was treated at the hospital for both neck and head trauma as well as injuries to her left leg, left wrist, and left middle finger. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent tow yard but was later towed to an inspection station by his insurance where it was deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was 106,000.

THE DEALER PRESTIGE NISSAN LEE'S SUMMIT (1025 SE OLDHAM PKWY, LEE'S SUMMIT, MO 64081 (816) 600-4000) GAVE AN UNCLEAR EXPLANATION AS TO WHERE THE SENSORS WERE IN THE FRONT TO HAVE ACTIVATED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. THE CONTACT FILED A CLAIM WITH HIS INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE VEHICLE REMAINED UN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,400.
CODE: R1608 THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) IS DESIGNED TO CLASSIFY THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AND, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. THE OCS SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO ONLY DEPLOY THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE OCS SOFTWARE MAY INCORRECTLY CLASSIFY THE PASSENGER SEAT AS EMPTY WHEN IT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT. IF THE OCS DOES NOT DETECT AN ADULT OCCUPANT, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD BE DEACTIVATED. ADDITIONALLY, IF A CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM (CRS) IS INSTALLED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT (NISSAN INSTRUCTIONS ADVISES AGAINST THIS), IN CERTAIN RARE INSTANCES, THE SEAT BELT BRACKET COULD DEFORM AND THE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEACTIVATE AS DESIGNED. THIS MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF AN INJURY TO A CHILD SITTING IN A CRS INSTALLED IN THE FRONT SEAT.
TWO AIR BAG LIGHTS ON 1 AT CENTER INTERIOR ABOVE RADIO 2 IN DRIVER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. LIGHT DOES NOT GO OUT EVEN WHEN 200 LBS PERSON IS SETTING IN PASSENGER SEAT. LIGHTS NEVER GO OUT EXCEPT WHEN KEY IS IN OFF POSITION.

AIRBAG SIGN IS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD 6 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE. CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY DENIED THE REQUEST TO FIX THE RECALL FOR THIS AIRBAG ISSUE. AIRBAGS MAY NOT BE DEPLOYED IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE.
PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT DOESN'T TURN OFF WHEN SOMEONE SITS DOWN IN THAT SIDE.
WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, MY PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT DID NOT TURN OFF WHILE I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE CAR WITH THEIR SEATBELT ON. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE FOR MONTHS AND HAS NOT BEEN FIXED.
MY WIFE WAS HEADING TO WORK ABOUT 1750 ON JUNE 26TH, DURING A RAIN STORM, SHE ENTERED THE HIGHWAY ON 43 EASTBOUND TOWARD MILWAUKEE OUT OF MUKWONAGO, WISCONSIN. SHE WAS TRAVELLING ABOUT 60MPH IN A 70 MILES AN HOUR ZONE; DURING THE STORM AND HYDROPLANED ON THE SLICK ROAD, DUE TO THE FACT THIS DOWNPOUR HAD BEEN IN THE EARLY STAGES THE ROADS WERE VERY SLICK. SHE SPUN OFF THE SIDE OF THE EXPRESSWAY DOWN THE EMBANKMENT WHERE THE CAR FLIPPED OVER ABOUT 3 TIMES AND SHE ENDED UPSIDE DOWN AGAINST A TREE, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. SHE WAS TAKEN TO ER AND WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO HAVING HER SEATBELT FASTENED, ENDURING SCRAPES, BRUISES AND ABRASIONS. THE WINDOWS ALL BLEW OUT, BUT AGAIN NO AIRBAGS DISPERSED. SHE WAS OFF A WEEK FROM WITH EXTREME SORENESS IN HER BODY AND A HAIRLINE FRACTURE IN HER ELBOW. *TT

NECK INJURY AND BRUISING WAS THE RESULT IN THE COLLISION BECAUSE AIRBAG FAIL TO DEPLOY. CAR REMAINS NOT IN USE AND WAITING ON FURTHER INFO IN THE MATTER. *TT

WHILE TRAVELING IN GLENDALE, UTAH IN JUNE 2015, I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. BEING DAZED AND INJURED AT THAT TIME I WAS UNSURE WHAT HAPPENED. NO OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED. I WAS WITHIN SPEED LIMIT. NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS HERE. IT WAS A DRY DAY EARLY AFTERNOON. THE LAST I RECALL WAS THE AIRBAG INFLATING IN MY FACE, THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.
PASSENGER AIR BAG IS STUCK IN OFF MODE - THIS IS SAME ISSUE AS RECALL 15V681000 BUT NISSAN INSIST THIS VEHICLE IS FINE AND DOES NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE - THEY ARE VERY INCORRECT
TOOK CAR TO DEALER AS PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES WHEN MY WIFE IS IN PASSENGER SEAT, DEALER SAID NO OUTSTANDING RECALL & NO CODES SHOWED ON THEIR INSPECTION. SAID PASSENGER MUST WEIGH AT LEAST 120 LBS WHICH MY WIFE DOES. THIS IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM IN ANY OTHER OWNED CARS. I AM SURE THERE ARE MANY SMALL WOMEN WHO WEIGH LESS THAN 120 LBS IN THIS COUNTRY. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED OTHERWISE NISSAN COULD BE SUBJECT TO A MAJOR LAWSUIT IF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH AS RESULT OF AIRBAG NOT INFLATING.
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF. DOES NOT RECOGNIZE WHEN A 135 POUND PERSON IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. NOTICED THE RECALL ON NHTSA AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO STREATER SMITH NISSAN IN CONROE TEXAS. THEY PERFORMED A ZERO POINT RESET AND SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE WHEN IT IS CLEARLY LISTED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. I HAVE REAL CONCERNS THAT NISSAN HAS NOT SEEN FIT TO ORDER AN ACTUAL RECALL ON THIS DEFECTIVE ISSUE. BECAUSE UNTIL THEY DO THEIR DEALERS WILL NOT FIX THE SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WITH A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE WITH A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE THE DATE BELOW IS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NISSAN.

THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVEN TIMES, WHERE TEMPORARY CORRECTIONS WERE MADE.
