The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the vehicle was accelerating and decelerating unexpectedly. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and a message to shift to park(P) was displayed. The contact pulled to a safe location and parked and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) was fractured, causing metal shavings into the fuel system. The dealer determined that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP), the fuel rails, the fuel line, and the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact was able to drive to his residence while experiencing the failure. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic cleared the code. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure was experienced three days later. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic cleared the fault code and reset the computer. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience failure again three days later. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer for a third time and again the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle needed to have the pressure checked. The dealer stated that the equipment to service the vehicle was not available to them. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle to a second local dealer: Baxter Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Papillion (14920 Crest Road, Omaha, NE 68138: (402) 819-6852) and was informed that the VIN was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available.
