INTERMITTENT SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION OF ENGINE DESPITE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. IT HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT MY FOOT WAS ON BOTH PEDALS. THEN I PULLED BACK THE FLOOR MAT. NEITHER WAS THE CAUSE. THIS WAS BEFORE ANY PUBLICITY THAT OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY 1992 CAMRY, V-6, EXPERIENCES SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN I EITHER PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE FROM PARK, OR IF I JUST TOUCH THE THROTTLE AND RELEASE IT, THE ENGINE RPM'S INCREASE OVER 1000 RPMS AND REMAIN HIGH FOR 15 SECS RATHER THAN DROPPING BACK IN SYNC WITH THE THROTTLE RELEASE. SIMILAR SYMPTONS WITH THE NEWER CAMRYS.*AK
ON 3/29/03 I HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT WORLDTOYOTA ON PEACHTREE INDUSTRIAL BLVD. I HAD AN OIL & FILTER CHANGE, 19 PT. INSPECTION, SPRING SERVICE AND BRAKES FOR A WHOPPING $488. I HAVE HAD A DIAGNOSTICS TEST DONE ON MY VEHICLE WITHIN THE PAST 6 MONTHS AT WORLDTOYOTA. IN THE PAST YEAR I HAVE ALSO REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION, MAIN SEAL, TRANSMISSION SEAL AND CV AXLE, TIMING BELT, TUNE-UP AND REGULAR OIL CHANGES. ON 4-28-03 I THREW A ROD IN MY ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE OIL AND THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE (MARKED ABOUT A 1/4" FROM TIP OF DIP STICK). AS CONFIRMED BY WORLDTOYOTA I HAVE NO OIL LEAKS AND I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY SMOKE OR FUME EMMITTING FROM MY EXHAUSE. LAST EMISSION INSPECTION 1/03. IF SOMEONE (NAMELY WORLDTOYOTA) CAN GIVE ME A FEASIBLE EXPLANATION AS TO WHAT HAPPEN TO THE 5 QUARTS OF OIL THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED DURING THE OIL CHANGE I CAN MAYBE GET SOME UNDERSTANDING. BUT OIL DOES NOT JUST EVAPORATE OUT OF THE ENGINE. MY NEXT SCHEDULE OIL CHANGE WAS 138,019 MILES OR 5/29/03. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND THIS IS MY SOLE MEANS OF TRANSPORTAION. I CONSISTENTLY TAKE NECESSARY STEPS TO MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE.
CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE WAS OVER HEATING AND COOLANT WAS LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. TOOK TO TOYOTA AND THEY REPLACED RADIATOR, PROBLEM REOCCURRED AND THEY STATED IT WAS THE HEADGASKET. NLM
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, STARTED TO OVERHEAT & FINALLY STALLED OUT. TOOK TO DEALER, AND MECHANIC INDICATED WATER PUMP NEEDED REPLACING. WHEN REPLACED ON 8/16/01, VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE. ON SEPT 7TH, VEHICLE STARTED OVERHEATING AGAIN. THIS TIME MECHANIC INDICATED A NEW RADIATOR WAS NEEDED DUE TO SOME TYPE OF BLOCKAGE.*AK
ENGINE STALLED AFTER STOPPING. WOULD ONLY RESTART AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO RESTART. *AK
V6 ENGINE. VEHICLE IS STALLING WHEN SLOWING DOWN ,OR STOPPING, USUALLY AFTER EXPRESSWAY DRIVING . DEALER IS HAVING PROBLEM IN DIAGNOSING THE DEFECT.PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
MUFFLER WAS POORLY DESIGNED. THE MUFFLER SYSTEM WAS VERY LOUD. WHEN CONSUMER ROLLED DOWN HIS WINDOW THE NOISE GAVE HIM A HEADACHE. *AK
AS I WAS BEGINNING TO DRIVE AFTER A RED LIGHT, MY CAR MADE A HORRIBLE ROARING-LIKE NOISE. MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE FRONT ENGINE PIPE AND REPLACED IT. THIS WAS ON APRIL OF 1999. IN AUGUST OF 1999, AS I WAS DRIVING AWAY FROM A CAR WASH, THE CAR BEGAN MAKING THE SAME NOISE. I TOOK IT TO PEP BOYS AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE FRONT ENGINE PIPE. I AGAIN HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED. SINCE THE ORIGINAL INCIDENT, THE CAR NOW ALSO MAKES A 'WHIRRING' NOISE EVERYTIME I ACCELERATE.
IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CAR HEATED UP. STAYED HOT. GARAGE TOLD ME IT WAS A HEAD GASKET/CAM HEAD PROBLEM THAT WAS A COURTSEY RECALL FROM TOYOTA. I ASKED WHAT THAT MEANT AND WAS TOLD IF SOMEONE COMPLAINS THEY WOULD FIX IT. THIS INFORMATION MY MECHANICE GOT FROM THE TOYOTA GARAGE. WHEN I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEARLERSHIP THEY DENIED TELLING MY MECHANIC THAT AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT I COULD DO. IT COST ME OVER $1,500 TO FIX THE HEAD GASKET AND CAM. NOW THE RADIATOR FAN IS NOT WORKING CORRRECTLY AND IS RELATED TO THE PREVIOUS PROBLEM. CAN YOU DETERMINE IF THERE WAS COURTSEY RECALL AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO MAKE THE MANUFACTOR STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT.
MOTOR IS DEFECTIVE. PURCHASED AND WITHIN ONE MONTH SMELLED SMOKE. INCIDENT INCREASED, OIL CHANGES, AND OTHER REPAIRS. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. DEALER IS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK

PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A SIDE STREET HEARD LOUD NOISE AND THEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER BECAUSE THE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE BROKE. *AK
ENGINE SHAKES DUE TO FAULTY FRONT MOTOR MOUNTS. BRACKET THAT ATTACHES TO ENGINE IS LOOSE, ONLY ONE BOLT HOLDING. *AK
EXHAUST PIPE BROKE WHERE THE PIPE JOINS TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, CAUSING A LOUD NOISE TO OCCUR. ALSO FELT AN EXHAUST SMELL IN THE PASSENGER'S COMPARTMENT CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
EXHAUST PIPE BROKE DUE TO A DEFECT EITHER IN THE PIPE ITSELF OR IN THE INSTALLATION OF THE PIPE. ALSO REPLACED ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS/VALVE SEALS AND UPPER ENGINE SUPPORTS. *AK
ENGINE FIRE, DUE TO LEAK IN THE LINE RUNNING TO THE HYDRAULIC COOLING FAN MOTOR.

SPLIT EXHAUST PIPE WHICH ALLOWS EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. *AK
